Chapter Forty: Result in Death

Lila's POV

Should I go to Dominic and ask him if what I heard from Julian is true or should I just sleep in my room and ponder on it by myself?

There was warfare happening in my soul. Of course, I ended up pondering about it all night. And I finally concluded it was best I stayed away from Dominic.

But I still gave myself the benefit of the doubt—I decided to ask Judith about it. Even if it meant guilt-tripping her until she talked, I planned to do it.

Judith stopped working the moment she moved into the pack. She said it wasn’t her dream to be a nurse, but she had to deal with it because she had been protecting me.

So, she started taking a course on fashion—it was her dream to become a fashion designer. Good for her, now she has a dream.

I, on the other hand, still didn’t have a dream.

I chose to become a nurse because it was well-paying, and it was the only stable job that could pay my mother’s debt and also grant me access to legalized loans.

I chose nursing to survive. It

Dominic's POVMy wolf had been restless ever since I kissed Lila. I didn't expect to act on impulse like that—neither did he.All I knew was that I wanted to remind Juliana of where she stood, but what surprised me most was Lila retracting her kiss. Who does that? She continues to astonish me.Jonathan and I have finally narrowed down our hunt for the witches to three individuals, but records indicated that they were all deceased.Jonathan and I brainstormed, and it became clear that one of them must have faked her own death. We decided to trace their origins and see if they left any clues that could lead us to the truth behind their disappearances. As I checked my wristwatch, I realized Jonathan should have returned by now.Just then, he walked in with a strange expression on his face. It was evident he had some grim news.I leaned back in my seat, prepared for the confirmation of my worst fears.“They're all dead. I have a full report on their births, lives, and deaths.” I crossed m

Lila's POV Dominic didn’t try to persuade or make me stay. He stared keenly at me for a long while, as if pondering over what I said.“Fine.” My heart skipped when he agreed.I didn't think he would let me have my way so easily.“I can leave?” I asked in surprise, just to be sure.“I didn't say you could leave.” He responded and I was taken aback.“You said fine, what did you mean?” I questioned further, a frown forming on my face.“You're not leaving; I'm leaving," he stated. Jonathan turned swiftly to look at him, his brow raised.“Alpha!” He called out as if trying to bring Dominic back to his senses.“Huh?” My eyes widened in the utmost confusion.Dominic turned to Jonathan and said, “I know what I'm doing.” Then he turned back to me.“I can't let you go out there, knowing fully well that people are waiting to get a hold of you.” He explained calmly, his eyes not leaving mine. I swallowed hard; he was right. The people who kidnapped my mom just to get to me, we still don't know

Victor's POV I couldn't help but wonder why Dominic didn’t suspect me at all, he must have really underestimated me. And that only made me furious. Call it an inferiority complex, but I do not like being looked down on. Luther informed me that Lila and Dominic kissed at the diner. How could they be in love when I was still struggling to deal with stigmatization? I had concluded that as long as I was still breathing, I wouldn’t watch them fall in love and get mated. I decided to instill a little bit of fear in Dominic, so I sent him a text. “What if he traces the number back to you?” Morgana asked, peeling the orange in her hands with all seriousness. Her fingers were long and painted in black with only the index fingers painted in red. What a weird way to show her personality.“He can’t. The phone belongs to a dead man.” I said, trying not to remember how I killed an innocent farmer, whose body is rotting below a strange tree in his farm. I bet he didn’t have a family that c

Victor's POV With her eyes widened in shock, she placed her hands over her mouth to prevent gasps from escaping. She couldn’t believe the sight before her—her husband was making out with the woman he introduced to her as his cousin. I had been committing adultery with Morgana for almost three years now, it was not surprising my wife didn’t feel the pleasure I was getting from it through our mate bond—Morgana prevented it.“Stella….” I called slowly, pulling up my trousers that were now down my thighs. I walked slowly towards her, stretching out my hand to calm her down. She kept shaking her head in disbelief as tears streamed down her face. “I can explain.” I tried to come up with excuses for my infidelity.“I bet you can.” She said, her voice dripping with rage as her chest fell and rose rapidly. “I just want to know who the hell she is, that you had to lie she was your cousin.” She took careful steps towards Morgana, brushing my shoulder as she walked past me. I was afraid sh

Lila's POV Ever since Dominic left the pack I’ve had all kinds of dreams, both good and bad. My heart aches with longing for him. There are moments when I yearn to ask about his well-being, but I've had to restrain myself, hiding my true emotions to avoid revealing the regret that lingers within me for letting him go.And did I mention that Jonathan checking up on me every day wasn’t helping the issue at all? I felt like he was doing so under Dominic’s orders. I looked over my shoulder to see Luis going over the procedure of a surgery he had, with the patient’s family. I must admit that he was a good doctor, his empathy and professional level are on point. But his commitment and loyalty level to his partner is zero. I returned to the hospital after Dominic left, it was boring reading books alone with Judith. We have discovered nothing so far and it was getting tiring. Maybe I should just give up on neutralizing my powers, I thought to myself severely. “Lila, will you be availa

Dominic's POV I turned to face her. She stood fixed in her position for a minute before turning—her face had a mixed expression, as if she was afraid but I thought it was just the normal fear the people had for me. I took careful steps toward her, my eyes fixed on her face. “Who are you?” I asked, my voice booming with authority. I found it strange that she looked somewhat familiar and had those icy blue eyes. But what was more unnerving was the way she was dressed. “I’m a guest in the Pack like you, Alpha Dominic.” She said, finding it difficult to make eye contact with me. Only people who had something to hide would do that, but it was hard to conclude in my case since I’ve had that experience even with little kids. “It’s a funeral, why are you dressed this way?” I asked, scanning her from head to toe. It was a known custom that you dress in black to a funeral. And it was Luna's funeral; why would she dress extravagantly like that, and in red, for that matter?“Morgana alwa

Lila's POV The surgery went well even though the relapsed hours were beyond expectation, but I was glad we could save the patient. I decided to stretch a bit before I left the theatre—I was planning to crash on my bed right away. “Thank you for your hard work,” Luis said from behind. I turned to face him. I removed the nose mask I was wearing so he could see my smile. I was with the anesthesia and monitoring the patient’s vitality so I could see how he was operating, but his leadership spirit was worth emulating. I could tell he knew what he was doing from the way he spoke to the fellows and residents in the room with us. “It’s fine. You already thanked me earlier. Besides, I didn’t do much. Thanks to you, the patient could live.” I thanked him back sincerely with a warm smile. “Do you wanna grab coffee with me?” He asked politely. I hesitated for a bit. “It’s not about anything, I know you belong to the alpha.” He said, and somehow his words made my chest tighten a bit. I b

  • Bound by the Moon, Rejected by the Alpha    Chapter Forty-Eight: Misdirection

Morgana's POV I knew Dominic wouldn’t recognize me, not when he was only eight, twenty years ago. But deep down I was scared of him. His cold demeanor and the alpha authority oozing from him made it hard for me not to shiver under his scrutinizing gaze. Unlike my sister, who was naturally born a witch, I was born weak and needed to keep red items of clothing on to make my powers instead, or they might fade away. If I knew I would meet Dominic at the funeral hall, I would have stayed away. It wasn't my fault that Victor had to shoot himself in the leg by calling me a name that wasn’t mine the moment he came back to the hall. But there he was, blaming me for trying to endanger him after Dominic left with Emily. “You shouldn’t even be here at all.” He screeched, pacing up and down in his office. He got to the spot where I cast a spell on Stella and stood fixated on that spot. I knew I suggested that we get rid of Stella, but I wasn’t expecting him to agree to it easily. His goal

How was she able to grab me in a memory?I felt a cold shiver run down my spine.I looked into Morinda's wrinkled face as she bent before me, her face trying to read mine.“You have been gone for a while,” She said, giving me a moment to get my thoughts together, she asked,“What happened, dear? What did you see?” I checked my wrist where the witch had grabbed, I felt a sense of relief that it didn't have any physical effect.I swallowed hard, my throat had no trace of moisture.“I need water,” I said dryly. Morinda scanned my face for a while before handing me a bottle of water from her small table.“Thank you,” I said and accepted the bottle of water. I gulped down loudly, finishing it in one go.I was starting to feel my soul returning to me.Morinda dropped to the floor so that we were facing each other, she studi

Lila's POV I felt a sudden ache in my chest as those words left his mouth. “Dominic?” I called to be sure he was really the one saying these hurtful things to me.“What if she were a member of Blackwood? Would you throw her away because she's too much to handle?” He pressed, I leaned my head back on the wall and tried to blink back the tears that had gathered in the corners of my eye with heat rising in my chest, I struggled to stay open minded. Maybe he's just trying to advise me, feeling hurt is just an unintended consequence of his actions.“Lila,” He called softly, I bit my lower lip in an attempt to stop any sound from escaping despite the storm brewing in my chest.“To be Luna, you have to be a mother to everyone in the pack. This has nothing to do with age; you have to be mentally and physically prepared to handle things that are way beyond your control.”“You have to be adaptive; things won't always go your way, but you can make the best out of the situation instead of lame

Lila's POV I woke the next morning feeling unusually tired. Must have been all the mental and physical stress from yesterday.Remembering that I had to look after some kid sent a feeling of fear all over me.I instantly reached for my phone on the nightstand and dialed Dominic's number. This is something I should've done since yesterday. I should've called him yesterday and expressed my displeasure with his arrangements. It rang for a while and no one answered. Is it too early?I checked the time; it was already past seven, and he should be awake by now.I called again, waiting patiently. When he didn't pick up on the third ring, I gave up.Frustrated, I got ready to go to the library. I wanted to stay somewhere away from all this stress.I got out and met Brian outside my door with a lollipop in his mouth, I raised a questioning brow at him.“What are you doing here so early?” I asked.“I heard you got a kid, so I came to take a look.” He grinned widely. • Bound by the Moon, Rejected by the Alpha    Chapter Ninety-nine: Babysitting

Lila's POV I was a bit taken aback at her utterance. A girl her age shouldn't be thinking of revenge. And the way she spoke with so much determination made me wonder who had hurt this little girl so badly to make her reason this way.We found a table and sat, and then I asked her, “Take revenge on who?”“The people who killed my mother!” She spat, her voice laced with venom and her eyes shimmering with tears that she fought back. The pain of losing a mother at such a young age must have made her believe that someone was the cause.Sometimes, things like this just happen. Things beyond our control and we look for someone to blame it on, just to feel better.“You think your mother was murdered,” I said, even though I wanted to make it a question.“I know my mother was murdered.” She corrected, her tone growing colder. She seemed offended by my statement.Whoa! This kid is something else.“Oh,” I managed to say.She was silent for a while, “Do you have anyone in mind?” I asked her. Beca

I got news that she was improving grateful in her training to master her elemental power.Everything is going exactly as planned. What could be better than this?I had two plans; to extract Lila's powers using a very dangerous spell or to let them fully activate it for me.Both were a win-win situation for me.If they hadn't done anything to stop me, I would've extracted her powers. And now that they stopped it, her powers are unlocked. Which was exactly what I wanted from the beginning.I was waiting for the best time to strike.“Morgana, this may be a little too extreme. Please come up with something else.” The coward, Victor said to me.“After all this time and you still doubt me. Do you think I would let myself in a situation where I would be caught off guard again?” I asked him, trying to hide the frustration in my voice.

Lila's POV Fuck! I turned to face Judith.“Judith,” I called with a nervous laugh, hiding the uniform behind me.“You're back already?” I asked her.“I never left this place,” She responded as she moved slowly towards me. I suddenly shifted as I found her unusually intimidating.“You never did? Then why didn't I see you when I came out?” I bent my head to the side, feigning confusion.“Cut the crap, Lila,” She said as she stopped in front of me.“I honestly don't understand what you mean by crap, I just went out for a moment to get stuff. I told you to stop knocking; I would come out when I was ready; it's not my fault that you decided to ignore my warning and camp here.” I said, pretending to be upset.“I never knocked on your door.” She said, her gaze piercing through my skin. But over the phone, she said she did. Did I just fall into her trap?“You did, I clearly heard it.” I deadpanned. She made click sounds with her tongue and shook her head in pity.“I did not.” She denied ada

Lila's POV The person stood about two tables from us. I couldn't recognize the person due to the gauze bandage that was wrapped all over his face and head. One eye had a plaster over it. He literally glared at me from one eye.He looked like Lazarus from the Bible story which was a bit laughable.“What are you looking at?” Brian asked, sensing my distraction.I gestured with my head and he followed the direction of my gaze and saw the person.“Who the hell is that?” He asked.“I have no idea,” I responded. Why would someone hold a grudge against someone they've never met before? Something seemed off.I stared at him trying to figure out how I had met him. To be honest, his figure looked quite familiar, but I couldn't just think of a name. Then it clicked, “Luis?” I called, not really sure if that's him. But considering the state I saw him the other day, it only made sense now.“That's Luis?” Brian asked, surprised. “Damn! They did him dirty.” I only hummed in response. He suddenly

My ability to manipulate water is still fluctuating.I went back to Morinda three days after our first try and I was able to do something.I never imagined that accepting my witch side would be more difficult than cultivating my powers as the elemental.I've been able to master a few spells, but sometimes they come on too strong, and I lose control. It's just frustrating how stressful it is.Eve never stopped to check on me, it's as if Dominic put her to it.I really enjoyed her company.
