Melissa’s POV

I sat opposite Dennis and Damon, and the atmosphere weighed heavily with unsaid tension. The air was heavy with their annoyance as they glared at one another. Dennis appeared to be holding onto a secret too huge for him to bear, and Damon's fists were clenched at his sides.

The silence was broken by me. "You have to start talking, Dennis. Right now.

Dennis paused and looked away. "I've been hiding something from you... from everybody. But you know, it's time.

"Go on," I said in a calm but forceful tone.

He inhaled deeply before starting, his voice shaking. Another prophecy exists. Something about a "Void Queen."

Damon laughed. "Queen Void? Is this a twisted fairy tale, or what?"

“The prophecy says that someone with a connection to The Void—someone with a mark like yours—could rise and bring devastation,” Dennis said, ignoring him and turning to face me. The Void Queen would be the name given to that individual.

I went cold. His remarks were like a mountain pressing down

Melissa’s POVDespite being bruised and abused, the council member's black eyes examined each of us with a smirk, and he appeared pleased rather than terrified as if he were holding onto a secret we would never discover. He was restrained to a chair in the middle of the room."Start talking, or you'll wish you had," said Damon, growling low in his throat.“You wolves think you’re so clever. But you’ve been playing into our hands from the beginning,” the man said with a laugh that was brimming with derision."Who are you working for? What does the council want with Melissa?" Dennis said, his face stern, as he stepped forward.“Ah, the golden question. Your little Melissa isn’t just some wolf. She’s the key. Her bloodline ties her to The Void and its destruction. Without her, nothing moves forward,” the man said, tilting his head and deepening his sneer. My stomach dropped. "My bloodline? What do you mean?""Your family has always been connected to The Void. The answers I sought were urgently needed.I could still hear the council member say, "Your bloodline ties you to The Void and its destruction."My wolf shifted. "You must see for yourself, Melissa. "There is no turning back once we get started."I gave a nod. "There is nothing we can do. As though the darkness itself had eaten my words, my voice sounded odd, almost empty.A chilly voice said, "This is The Void," raising the hairs on the back of my neck. When I turned around, all I could see was the infinite grey and black space. Her eyes were spooky crimson, and this version of myself had a contorted smile. Her presence exuded might and hatred, and her hair sailed as if caught in an invisible wind. The shadowy creature replied, "I am you," in a smooth yet poisonous voice. Melissa’s POVThe clearing's air felt heavy as if the entire world had paused to listen. With their eyes focused on the unfamiliar man in front of them, the pack formed a tense circle. Its voice, like a serpent creeping into my ears, was frigid as it spoke. The emissary's tiny lips curled into a sort of smile as it said, "I come with an offer." His eyes were as hard as stone, and his arm was bandaged from the training mishap. "Melissa," he stated in a firm, loud voice. "We must speak."I nodded and swallowed hard. I didn't want another surprise after everything that transpired last night. However, Kael had precisely that in mind for us.As he entered the hall with a woman by his side, Kael declared, "She's here to help."I had never seen a stranger like this before. Tall and slender, she had piercing green eyes that seemed to be able to see every secret we were keeping. She had short black hair, and the pack shift felt uneasy around her because of the danger she exuded.“This is Liora, everyone,” Kael added. Despite being a rogue wolf, she is knowledgeable about the Void that we are not. She is, in my opinion, the secret to beating it."A rebel?
