Melissa’s POV

In the dim darkness, the trees in front of us seemed dark and unwelcoming. As I guided the party farther into the forest, my heart raced. The weight of what we were undertaking overshadowed Damon's normally confident demeanour as he strolled beside me. The others trailed closely after, walking carefully.

Damon indicated thin tracks in the soil and stated, "We're getting close." "They're new."

I nodded while firmly holding my dagger's hilt. My chest constricted with anxiety, and each stride felt heavier.

Dennis. He couldn't have deceived us, could he?

One of the scouts cried out, "Melissa." "This way."

I rushed over to kneel next to him. He had discovered a tiny, well-kept path that led to a cabin that had been abandoned.

"This was not previously present," the scout stated.

Damon scowled. "It appears that someone has been using it as a gathering place."

I inhaled deeply. "Let's go. Remain silent and near.

The cabin appeared a dilapidated, dark building that seemed to have

Melissa’s POVThe chilly night air was heavy with unsaid words, and the clearing was tight. Dennis's face was praying as he gazed at me. Damon was still snarling close by, staring at Dennis. Torn between confusion, anxiety, and wrath, my heart was racing."You must comprehend," Dennis urged urgently. "This goes beyond Raven and the pack. Something much worse is on the horizon. Melissa, something connected to you."What are you discussing? " I crossed my arms and ordered, "Stop using riddles and start giving explanations!"With a pale face in the moonlight, Dennis nodded. "Something ancient is a shadow being. We refer to it as "The Void." It is a force that thrives on power, particularly like yours.I blinked as I tried to take in what he had said. "Feeds on me? Even so, what does that mean?""The prophecy," said Dennis. It's not only about your ancestry bringing the pack together or breaking them up. You are the kind of person the Void has been waiting for aeons. You will become the k

Melissa’s POVAs I stood confronting Raven, the air was heavy with tension. His expression was unreadable as his piercing eyes met mine. I could feel the pack's eyes on me as they awaited my choice, and Damon growled softly next to me.I inhaled deeply while speaking steadily but doubtfully. "All right. A ceasefire. However, only until The Void is halted and the weapon is destroyed.A sneer formed on Raven's lips. "Good decision, Melissa. You'd see reason, I knew. With his hands clenched, Damon took a step forward. "You won't live to regret anything you try at all."Raven, obviously displeased by Damon's warning, raised an eyebrow. "Calm down, puppy. I am not here to play games; I am here to help.Behind me, the pack burst into whispers, their voices piercing with incredulity and rage.Thorne, one of the elders, said, "Melissa." "You're siding with our adversary? Given what he has done, how can we have faith in him?"With a heavy heart, I turned to face them. "I have no faith in him.

Melissa’s POVI realized there was a problem as soon as we got back to the pack's territory. The once-bright, verdant woodland was now covered in a strange, unnatural blackness, and the air seemed heavy. The trees appeared to be sagging under the weight of an invisible force, and the ground was chilly beneath my feet."What is this, exactly? With a trembling voice, I whispered.Damon, who was standing next to me, looked around grimly. It is the weapon's evil energy. It is spreading.Members of the pack came out of their houses, their faces white and terrified. I overheard mutterings of uncertainty and concern.Melissa, what's going on? With a stern yet worried tone, Thorne demanded.I took a deep breath to regain my composure. "This darkness was released by the destruction of the weapon. The Void is connected to it. I swear I'll fix this, even though I don't fully grasp it yet."Repair it? One of the younger wolves let out a cry. "Our country is dying! How do we combat this?"Damon mo

Melissa’s POVLong after the spirit had vanished into the darkness, I could still hear their voice. "The very thing that connects you to this world must be sacrificed to seal The Void." What was meant by that? The answers I sought were urgently needed."Melissa." I was brought back to the present by Dennis's voice. His face was a mix of resolve and worry as he stood next to me. Time cannot be wasted. By "the cost," what did they mean?I said, "I don't know," while firmly grasping my mother's journal. "However, I will find out."As the darkness outside became deeper, we assembled in the main hall. The pack was agitated, and I sensed their anxiety just as strongly as I did. The figure reappeared, their outline somewhat obscured by the shadows."Talk," I insisted, my voice firm. "How much does it cost to seal The Void?"As though considering their response, the figure cocked their head. You have to give up a piece of your soul to seal The Void. Your powers will wane without it. You will

Melissa’s POVWith my troop gathered behind me, I stood at the ceremonial location amid a tense atmosphere. Beneath my feet, the light circle of ancient symbols pulsed softly, reflecting the irregular beating of my heart. Whispering threats and promises, the dark energy whirled menacingly around us.The voice of The Void, chilly and deep like a winter wind, came to me then. "There is nothing to be afraid of, Melissa. I will relieve you of this weight if you embrace me. No foretelling. No effort. Just power. The image of me triumphantly standing free from anxieties and regulations flashed before my eyes. The temptation was nearly overwhelming for a time. The Void urged, "You don't have to fight anymore.""Hey, Melissa! Through the fog, Damon's voice could be heard. I turned to see his furious eyes as he stepped closer. "Avoid listening to it. Neither you nor the pack are important to that beast. All it wants is control.Dennis also moved forward. Melissa’s POVEven though the morning air was clear, I didn't feel particularly renewed. Like the weight of my secret, a heavy feeling of anxiety hung over me. The symbol on my wrist served as a constant reminder of everything I had lost, including my link to my wolf."Melissa, the patrols reported back," Damon stated as he came up to me close to the exercises. His sharp eyes scanned mine, as though seeking the answers I wouldn't provide. "There's been movement along the northern border. Nothing conclusive, but it’s... strange."I nodded while maintaining a composed attitude. "We’ll increase the patrols. Strange doesn’t mean dangerous. Not yet."Damon's doubt was evident as he arched an eyebrow. "You’ve been distracted. Are you sure you’re okay to lead?"I had to keep my composure even though his inquiry felt like a dagger to my chest. "Of course. I’m fine, Damon. Just tired."Dennis came over, clipboard in hand, his normally calm manner tinged with worry. "Melissa, you missed the pac

Melissa’s POVI was startled awake by Lydia's scream, which cut through the silence of the healer's hut. She was sitting up in bed, her eyes wide with fear, when I hurried into the room.Lydia! I called as I moved in closer. "You're secure now. What took place?"Her eyes were frighteningly blank as she turned to face me. Melissa, I witnessed it. I witnessed the reality."The reality? I hesitantly questioned, looking at Damon, who had followed me in, with concern. "What's the truth?"She gripped the blanket hard and shook her head. "The Void still exists. It is observing us and awaiting its opportunity. You've only strengthened it, even though you believe you've halted it.Dennis moved to Lydia's side and softly murmured, "Calm down, Lydia." "You're worn out. You should get some rest."No! She yelled, raising her voice. "You're not getting it. It revealed to me the lineage, the falsehoods, and the darkness.I went cold. Bloodline? Which lineage?"Lydia pointed at me, her hands shaking.

Both they and I were aware that something was amiss. In the meeting room, Dennis and Damon were going through rogue movement notes and maps. I forced myself to concentrate and joined them."What have you discovered? I asked, maintaining a steady tone of voice despite the knot in my stomach.Damon's jaw clenched as he looked up. A renegade leader is active in the shadows. They're trying to revive The Void, but we don't yet have a name for it.Dennis added, indicating a location on the map. This is close to the border. This is where they are most active. This person, whoever they are, is organizing the rogues for a major cause.I balled my fists up. "We must prevent them from succeeding. Unwilling to complete the notion, I trailed off, "If The Void regains its strength."Damon gave a nod. For this reason
