Kovu POV
My heart pounded as I watched the coffin's lid burst open and Kaliyah emerging from within. The last time I laid eyes on her, she was on the brink of death. Our pack's best warrior was torn apart in the last war against the Eldrath pack. I wasn't able to make it back to the palace in time and I knew she died in my arms.
“Catch her!” I ordered when I noticed her falling to the ground. Two of my men rushed forward and caught Kaliyah just before she collapsed to the ground. I marched towards them as they laid her gently on the ground and checked her pulse.
“Is she..” my voice trailed off.
“Yes…she's alive.” One of them confirmed with a look of disbelief. “She's still breathing, she just passed out.”
I clenched my fists, trying to make sense of what I was seeing. Her body wasn't riddled with claw marks, bites and the huge hole in her heart was fully healed. Heck it looked like her skin was glowing in fact. What the hell was going on? How could she still be alive?
The wounds she received were fatal. Even a Lycam’s healing factor couldn't close up such wounds, especially the one in her heart and yet here she was, alive and breathing. It was impossible.
Questions raced through my mind. How did she come back to life and most importantly, what was that connection I felt when she stared at me? It was as if a force was pulling me towards her and it didn't take me long to find out why.
“Mate.” My Lycan, Kyrax declared in my head.
“What?” I asked, dumbfounded by the news.
“Mate! She is out mate.” Kyrax repeated himself.
What sort of madness is this? I gritted my teeth, refusing to accept this. Today had just been one hell of a day and now I had to deal with the realization that my biggest rival, who somehow managed to come back from the dead, was my mate? Bullshit. Utter bullshit.
“Impossible.” I muttered under my breath, trying to push the thought away.
“She is our mate. We belong to each other.” Kyrax insisted with a snarl.
“No.” I snapped at him before zoning him out. “She is not my mate.”
I turned to my warriors who all had shocked expressions on their faces. I couldn't blame them. This burial had turned into something….beyond our understanding.
“Get her to the healers. Make sure she's stable. I want answers when she wakes up.” I ordered them.
They nodded and carefully lifted Kaliyah, carrying her towards the healers quarters
“Kovu, listen to me. You will not reject her, she is ours.” Kyrax howled in my head but I shut him off again real quick. I was so not in the mood for this. I needed answers. I needed to find my father.
I turned around and walked towards the Alpha pack mansion. Kyrax’s rage was palpable as he howled in my subconscious but I ignored him, he could be really cranky most times.
“How dare you deny our mate? She is ours, Kovu! You cannot ignore this!” Kyrax roared, but I shur him out and walked briskly through the corridors towards my father's throne room.
I barged in without so much as a knock and the looks of irritation from the elders and my father bore on me but I couldn't care less. They never liked me much in the first place anyway.
“Father, I need to speak to you now!” I demanded , not even batting an eye at the elders.
“This is no time for interruptions, boy. Leave at once.” Elder Jarek rose from his seat and glowered at me.
“Last time I checked, you weren't my father Jarek. I'd advise you to shut up.” I clapped back at him, enjoying the expression of rage on his face.
“Enough, both of you.” My father, Alpha Torino, raised a hand. “Everyone, leave us. We will continue later.”
The elders grumbled with dissatisfaction but they complied and filled the room one by one. Once they were gone, my father turned his full attention towards me.
“What is it, Kovu? Have you finished the burial rites for our warriors?”
“Oh, the burial happened, alright. But there's a slight complication.” My lips curled in a sarcastic smile. “Kaliyah has come back to life.”
His eyes widened in shock. He marched towards me and grabbed me by the shoulder with an agitated look on his face.
“What are you talking about? How is that possible?”
“First of all, let go of me.” I hit his hands away. “I don't know, father. She was supposed to be dead. Her wounds were too severe, no healer could save her and her body had no life when we placed her in the coffin. But she broke out, her wounds healed and alive.”
My father frowned, his hands scratching his thick beard as he processed this development. “This is…unprecedented. Are you certain it's her?”
“There's no doubt it's her.” I nodded .
My father suddenly became excited. His eye's regained their shimmer which got me very irritated.
“Where is she?” he asked eagerly, like a kid going to the playground.
“She's in the healers quarters.” I replied through gritted teeth.
Without another word, he strode out of the room, heading straight towards the healer's chambers. I clenched my fists and followed suit.
As we walked, I couldn't help but feel a sense of jealousy and resentment. My father had always favored Kaliyah, always saw her as the better warrior. Heck if he had his way, I was sure he would have preferred for Kaliyah to be his daughter than I, his son. This fact irked me to end.
I felt a sense of relief when she died but now, with her miraculous resurrection and coupled with the fact that Kyrax had identified her as my mate. It felt like she was once again stealing my spotlight.
“This is more than rivalry, Kovu. She is our mate. Embrace it.” Kyrax snarled in my head.
“Shut up, Kyrax.” I growled inwardly as we entered the healer's chambers. I wasn't ready to accept this bond. Not now, not ever.
Kaliyah's POV Fogs of memories swirled in my mind as I slipped in and out of consciousness. These memories, I knew they weren't mine at all; they were the memories of the body I was currently in. They forced themselves into my being, imprinting someone else's experiences into my core until I didn't know who I was anymore. The fragments of memories continued to sink in, and as the final fragment merged with me, a cold sensation overcame me. It was the memory of how the original owner of this body died, but that wasn't what made me shiver in horror. It was a pair of cold purple eyes that stared down at me, and his lips stretched in a devious smirk. Asterion. In the memory, he had killed her in the exact same fashion as he killed me—a claw to the heart. A sick feeling of déjà vu consumed me, and I felt myself screaming out in terror. This was way too coincidental. “Ughh.” Finally, I opened my eyes and blinked against the warm light that flooded my vision. “Lady Kaliyah!” I heard
Kovu's POV I followed my father and stormed out of the room. I was so mad, the urge to punch something burned in me, but I was doing a rather good job of restraining myself. I stared at the broad back of my father as he walked in front of me. The praises of Kaliyah ringing in my head only served to fuel the fire raging in my gut. Punching him wouldn't have been a bad idea at all. Why on earth was he praising Kaliyah's return like some fucking simp? Practically worshiping her return? Because she was supposedly the pack's best warrior. It made me sick to my stomach. I could still hear his words echoing in my head: *Our pack's greatest warrior.* Preposterous. How could he ignore everything I've done? Everything I've worked for? I was his son, for Goddess' sake. *Mate, go back to her now, Kovu, she's our mate, and she needs us.* Kyrax had been howling in my head for the past 30 minutes, and I wished I could just shut him up forever at this point. *She's not my mate, Kyrax,* I
Kovu POV*Shut up, Kyrax,* I snapped back at him as I walked down the corridor. *I don't want to hear it right now.**Try all you want, but you can't ignore it, Kovu. The bond will keep pulling you back to her. You'll only make things harder for yourself.*Both my Lycan and I couldn't seem to come to an agreement, and I wasn't in the mood for a lecture from him. He had never been like this—so annoying and uncooperative—so I blocked him out as best as I could. The mate bond was already a heavy burden, and the last thing I needed was Kyrax reminding me of it every five seconds.I reached my chambers in record time and flung the door open. I stepped inside and began to pace back and forth, trying to work off my frustrations. Before long, there was a knock on the door, and before I could respond, it swung open and Daphne stepped into the room. She wore a see-through gown that gave me a good view of her ample breasts and delightful curves. Her eyelids fluttered seductively, and she swayed
Kaliyah's POVI yawned and rose from my bed as the glow of the full moon streamed through the curtains and fell on my face. Stretching my body, I was surprised to find that I was feeling very… energetic. The fatigue and weariness I had felt were gone, replaced by a newfound agility.I looked at the full moon, shining in all its majesty, and couldn’t help but whisper a silent prayer of thanks to the Moon Goddess.I searched for my Lycan, Akira, within, and I could feel our connection thrumming strong. It still felt unbelievable to me that I now had an inner beast and had finally realized my dream of becoming a shifter.I’d also noticed something else since waking up: I felt an extraordinary vitality coursing through my body, as if electric energy had infused every cell, leaving me feeling powerful. It was like…*Mana, the energy given to us by the Moon Goddess. It is what connects us to the earth and the moon, and it’s what makes the shift into our true forms possible. It’s the essence
Kaliyah's POVKovu’s massive form hurtled toward me like a blazing comet, his claws stretching out and glinting wickedly under the light of the moon.Time seemed to slow down significantly as I watched the claws slashing toward my head. I barely had a moment to react, but in the nick of time, my instincts took over, fueled by the mana. I twisted my body just in time, the claws grazing past where my head had been only a fraction of a second earlier.Kovu crashed into the ground, and I rolled to the side, using the momentum to get back on my feet. We both stood up and locked eyes. All I could see in those eyes was burning hatred.*What is wrong with you? Why did you attack me?* I snapped at him through the mind link. I mean, who wouldn’t be mad when you just got your head nearly chopped off in a surprise attack?*Shut the hell up!* Kovu growled in response. *Why would you be out here parading yourself around?**Parading myself around? What kind of question is that? I’m not the one tryin
Kaliyah's POVMemories of how the previous Kaliyah had crushed on Calum from afar resurfaced, and I began to look at the hot warrior trainer before me in a different way.Calum looked between the two of us with an irritated expression. “What the hell do you think you’re doing, fighting each other like a couple of pups in training?”Kovu opened his mouth to retort, but Calum cut him off with a sharp gesture. “Don’t even start with me, Kovu. You think you can pull this stunt and get away with it? If I catch you doing this again, I'll report you to your father, the Alpha. See how much you like that.”Kovu’s jaw clenched, and his fists tightened, but in the end, he didn’t say anything. The threat of being reported to his father seemed to be enough of a deterrent, and Calum looked like someone who would follow through on his threats.“And you!” He turned to me, locking his yellow eyes on mine.“And me? He’s the one who tried to slash my head off,” I pouted, lips pursed in complaint.“Yes,
Kovu's POV“Who is that?” I growled as a persistent knock rattled my door, dragging me from the shallow pit of sleep I managed to find. I groaned as I forced myself up. Last night could be ranked up there with one of the worst nights of my life. Not only did I not get the chance to settle things with Kaliyah once and for all, but I'd also spent the better part of the night trying to drown out Kyrax's growls and snarls. Long story short, I barely slept. The knocking didn't stop; in fact, it grew more insistent as the seconds passed. A vein popped in my head, and my patience snapped.“What is it?” I marched towards the door and yanked it open.An omega stood there, trembling in fear, sweat dripping down from his forehead. He looked like he'd rather be anywhere else but here, which was an accurate analogy considering I looked like I was about to eat him alive.“Speak!” I thundered at him, which made his trembling increase.“The Alpha is… is requesting your presence in the pack's meeting
Kovu's POV He continued, “Now, to the matter at hand—Asterion Maverick. The new Alpha of the Eldrath pack has proven to be a ruthless adversary. He’s been recruiting rogues, swelling his numbers. As of our latest intelligence, his forces are nearing ten thousand and rising. This is no ordinary enemy we face.” “Rogues aren’t ones to be controlled. They are feral, uncontrollable beasts,” one of the generals, Viktor, added. “Yet Asterion commands them with an iron fist. We suspect he’s using some form of dark magic to bind them to his will.” A deafening silence descended on the meeting hall when the words “dark magic” were spoken. It was a serious taboo in the packs to use or even consider the use of dark magic. The only race that relished the use of dark magic and used it without abandon was the shamans. “Uhm… I have something to say.” Kaliyah cleared her throat and raised her hand, seeking permission to speak. “You may proceed,” my father granted her the floor. “Wh… when I f
