CHAPTER TWO
Alpha Declan’s POV
I watched as her small eyes increased in diameter.
“It was nice meeting you, but I have to go now.” she said immediately. What was wrong with her? I wanted to ask her badly, but I didn't want her to freak out. We just met.
Instead, I smiled and asked her, “Is this another Cinderella story?” my heart melted when she chuckled again. I wanted to listen to the sound of her voice all day.
“My father is getting worried.” she finally said and I nodded. At least, I have found out that it was her father and not some crazy guy.
“Then maybe I should come with you. I am going to meet him sometime in the future. It won’t hurt to bring the meeting forward.” I said jokingly, but I meant it.
She laughed, taking it as an unserious joke. She opened her mouth to say something but shut it again. I could see the excitement drain off her face. She sighed. “I have to go.” she said and turned around before I could say anything.
I tried to stop her but she ran down the stairs like she was being chased. I felt the urge to go after her and see the person who had dared change her mood but I decided to go against it. I didn’t want her to see me as a beast.
I walked back to the party slowly. I disliked these kinds of parties. It was filled with power drunk Alphas who wanted nothing but to increase their power without caring whose toes they stepped on. And one of those bastard Alpha was Alpha Atlas. He was the worst of his kind.
“Alpha Declan! I never thought I would see you here?" I turned around to see the person.
“Oh! I am Alpha Xander of…”
“Greenwood pack. I know you. I am not interested in a conversation with someone as weak as you.”
“This doesn’t call for insult.”
“You couldn’t even fight for your mate. An Alpha who can’t protect his mate, is not fit to be an Alpha.” his jaw tightened in anger and I shook my head.
“I tried to but letting her go was the best thing. You don’t have a father like mine so you can’t relate.”
“That is your problem, you let your father boss you even when you are the Alpha. Do you think that your subjects would respect you?” he sighed and turned to go.
“I have some advice for you.” he turned around.
“When Alphas are being called for a meeting, puppets like you shouldn’t be found.” his face hardened and he threw his hand at me. I caught it in the mid air and scoffed at him.
“Is that the best you can do?” I didn't see it coming until the glass hit my head. I twisted his hand and threw him on the floor. I kept landing blows at him , ignoring what they were saying around me until my eyes met her. She stared at me briefly for a while with disappointment in her eyes. Then she ran off. I stood up from him planning to follow her when he punched me in the face. I wanted to punch him again when someone held my arm.
“Alpha don’t. There are a lot of people watching you.” I shook his hand. I don’t care about what anyone in this room thought of me. I landed him another punch and let him go not caring if he would break his baby skull.
I stormed out of the ball with my Beta on my tail. He opened the door and I stepped into the car. The car zoomed off and we drove in silence. He started talking immediately and we got out of the car.
“I don’t think it was a right thing to beat him up. We attended the ball to gain Alpha Jason’s trust. But we didn’t get to talk to him.”
I stopped on my track and turned to my Beta. “I don't need the help of any of those stinking bastards. I will do everything my own way.” he shook his head and opened his mouth to say something. Probably, about how it was better i seeked help from other Alphas.
“Save it. I don’t want to hear it.” I said , but as usual, he ignored me. One of the side effects of making your best friend your Beta.
“All I am saying is that your actions tonight will create more enemies for us.”
“Then again, I don't care. They know what it means to go against me. They wouldn’t risk it.”
“But…”
“Find me everything about my mate. She seemed a little disturbed from earlier. I think someone is threatening her.”
“What is her name?” he asked, then it dawned on me that we never exchanged names.
“We didn’t talk about that.” he stared at me hard.
“You mean, you talked to her for that long and you never asked her for her name? Are you that bad in relationships? " I threw the first thing I grabbed at him.
“Do your job and don’t come to me unless you have the information.” I said and shut the door to my office.
I couldn’t help but think about her. There was something about her smile that I was yet to phantom. And the way her mood changed immediately was alarming. I am sure that it had to do with the person who mind linked her. What if it wasn’t her father? What if she told me that it was her father to get me off her back?
I sighed. Maybe I should have listened to my wolf when he suggested that we follow her. Now, we were both restless wondering if anything bad had happened to her. I wouldn’t forgive myself if something bad happened.
The door opened and Charles popped his head. “Alpha, I found something. You wouldn’t believe what I found.”
“How would I believe you if you haven’t told me anything?”
“I went through the footage of the ball. One of the footage shows when she entered the ball with someone I found out was her father.” he said.
“Let me see it.” I said and opened my eyes but he shook his head. I raised my eyebrow at him.
“I just want you to know that it might not be what you think it is.”
“Hand over the laptop now.” I growled and he dropped the laptop on top of my desk alongside a file.
I clicked the play button. I paused when I saw the persson she came into the ball with. I rewinded it hoping that I was seeing something wrong. I picked up the file and read through it. I clenched my fist as I read through the file. I can’t believe that I fell for their trap. I could see clearly that she had the tattoo I had seen that day of the incident. What more evidence do I need?
I felt my wolf getting angry. It struck me. He wanted us to show her that she can not mess with us and I was more than ready to show her that.
“If they think that they can play me, then they better do better.”
“Alpha. She could be oblivious of his plans. You said it yourself that she acted as though she was being threatened.”
“It was all part of the plan. They started it but I am going to show them that only I can be the boss.”
“Alpha, you might be making a mistake…”
“Shut up and follow my orders!” from the terrified look on his face, i knew that my wolf had taken over for a second and reminded him of what he could do.
“Yes, Alpha.”He said and turned to leave.
“Arrange a meeting with Alpha Atlas within this week. I don’t care how you are going to do it but we are going to pay that bastard a visit. If he thinks that he can scheme behind my back, then he doesn't know what is going to hit him.”
CHAPTER THREEKendall’s POV“Bold of you to think that what you did to me that night was okay.” I rolled my eyes wondering why he kept bringing up that night’s event.“I told you that I have found my mate.”“Who is he? Is he an Alpha?” I nodded my head.“Of what pack, Kendall? What is his name?”“I don’t know. We didn’t exchange names.” I bit my lips aware of how stupid I sounded. My father shook his head at me. “He could be a lowly Alpha of a weak pack. Do you think your getting together with him will do our pack any good? We will be mocked by others.”“I don't care about that.”“I don't care what you think Kendall. You are getting married to Drake and that is what is going to happen. And don't think of running away. You will only end up pissing him off.”The door pushed open and the Beta rushed inside. “I’m sorry to disrupt your meeting Alpha but you have a guest.”“What guest?” I sat properly and strained my ears. The Beta stared at me for a while as I pretended to be reading the m
Chapter FourKendall’s POVMy mother and my sister stood outside the door. My mother shook her head at me asking me to keep my mouth shut but I rolled my eyes. If he controls them, he can't control me.“I will rather run away with my mate than end up with someone who is like you!”“I am not surprised. You are a result of your mother's disobedience.” He said bitterly, pointed at my mother and left.“Listen to your father, Kendall. You can't…”“No mom, I'm going to do whatever I want to do. Don't expect me to live under his shadows like you. Sometimes, I wished I wasn't born into this family.” I spat. My mother stared at me for a while then she shook her head.“Follow what he says, Kendall. That is the only way we can survive.” I shook my head. I was going to make a difference.******I stared at myself in the mirror as they worked on enhancing my beauty. This was the day that I will start writing my own story. The door opened and my mother stepped inside. She wasn't smiling. She just
Chapter Five Kendall’s POVI never thought the day of the festival would turn out like this. The air should have been filled with excitement and joy, but instead, it felt heavy with tension and resentment. My father, as usual, had been in one of his moods, barking orders and criticizing every move we made. Watching my mother and sister obey his every command without question made my blood boil.It was as if they were programmed to do whatever he said, no matter how unreasonable or unfair it seemed. I couldn’t stand it anymore. As we prepared for the festivities, I pulled my mother and sister aside, hoping to reason with them. “Can’t you see what he’s doing to us?” I whispered urgently, my frustration seeping into every word. “We don’t have to take this. We can stand up to him, together.”But before I could finish my words, my mother’s hand connected with my cheek in a sharp slap. Shocked, I stumbled backward, the sting of her betrayal burning on my skin.“How dare you speak against y
Chapter SixKendall’s POVThe atmosphere buzzed with excitement and anticipation among the crowd gathered for the mating festival. My heart pounded with nervousness, my senses tingling with the knowledge that Alpha Declan was there, just a few feet away from me.Alpha Declan was my mate, the one I had dreamed of since I could not remember, and now, finally, my dreams were becoming a reality. As I stood staring at him there in the room, my pulse quickened with every sight of his handsome face and powerful presence. It was as if the universe had aligned to bring us together, to fulfill the destiny that had been written in the stars. But my father hovered behind me like a shadow, his disapproving gaze burning into the back of my skull as he continued to demand that I go make introductions to the guests.Ignoring his persistent demands, I focused all my attention on Alpha Declan, my heart singing with the knowledge that he was mine, that we were meant to be together. But just as I was abo
Chapter SevenDeclan’s POVAs the last of the rogues fled, defeated, Kendall turned to me, her eyes beaming with tears in them. “Are they gone? Are we safe now?” she whispered questions.Turning to her, I offered a reassuring smile, though I could see the fear lingering in her eyes. “Don’t worry, Kendall,” I said, my voice calm and steady. “We’re safe now. The rogues won’t dare to attack us again.”Kendall nodded, though her expression remained tense with worry. I could understand her apprehension; it was only natural to fear the unknown, especially in times of danger.I knew that my pack was more than capable of handling any threat that came our way. “Alpha,” one of my men approached. “We’ve taken care of them, but a few managed to escape into the woods. What are your orders?”I considered my options for a moment before nodding decisively. “Send out a search party,” I instructed. “I want those rogues found and brought to justice. We cannot allow them to continue threatening the terri
Chapter EightKendall’s POVThe next morning, I woke with a heavy heart, the events of the previous night weighing heavily on my mind. Despite my best efforts to push aside the hurt and disappointment, they lingered like a dark cloud, casting a heavy cloud over the new day.As I lay there, the soft rays of sunlight filtering through the curtains, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of sadness wash over me. I had stormed out of the room in a fit of anger after Declan’s cold rejection last night.Unable to bear the thought of facing Declan after his rejection, now in the quiet solitude of the morning, I couldn’t shake the feeling of regret that ate at me from within. With a heavy sigh, I rolled over in bed, expecting to find Declan lying beside me, his presence a constant reminder of the distance that still separated us. But to my surprise, the other side of the bed was empty, the sheets cold and made.Confusion and disappointment flooded through me as I sat up, scanning the room for any s
Chapter NineKendall’s POVTwo weeks had passed since I arrived among Declan’s pack, and each day felt like years of loneliness. Declan remained as stubborn and cold as ever, his indifference to me constantly reminded me of my failure to win his affection. The pack members, too, made it clear that I was not welcome among them. They treated me with disdain and suspicion, their eyes cold and unwelcoming every time as they went about their duties. It was clear that they saw me as nothing more than an outsider, an stranger among them. Despite my best efforts to fit in though, to prove myself worthy of their acceptance, it seemed that nothing I did was enough to earn anyone’s trust. No matter how hard I worked or how honestly I tried to please them, I remained a stranger. But somehow, I refused to give up hope. Knowing that he was the key to everything, I was determined to prove to Declan and his pack that I was worthy of respect, that I belonged by his side as his mate. One evening, as I
Chapter TenKendall’s POVAs the day of the wedding approached, a sense of dread settled over me like a heavy cloud. I couldn’t shake the feeling of terror of what the future held with Declan as my mate and husband that gripped my heart. But with the arrangements for the wedding already made, there was no turning back now. The ride back to my father’s pack for the ceremony was a silent one, filled with tension and unspoken resentment between us. I sat stiffly beside Declan, staring out the window as the scenery blurred past, my mind a whirlwind of emotions.I missed my home, the familiar sights and sounds of my father’s pack. Returning felt like stepping into a nightmare, a reminder of the life I was leaving behind and the uncertain future that awaited me. Throughout the journey, I didn’t say a word to Declan, and he seemed content to let the silence stretch between us. Perhaps he too was wrestling with his own doubts and fears, or maybe he simply didn’t care.As we arrived at my fa
EpilogueWith their love reaffirmed and their bond stronger than ever, Declan and I embarked on a new chapter of our lives together. In just a few short days, surrounded by our loved ones, we exchanged vows and pledged our hearts to each other in marriage. It was a day filled with laughter, tears, and overwhelming joy, as we celebrated our love and commitment to each other. And then, four months later, our joy knew no bounds as I gave birth to twin boys, healthy and strong, who bore a striking resemblance to their father. Holding them in my arms for the first time, I felt a sense of completeness wash over me, knowing that our family was now complete.A week later, as the moonlight filtered through the curtains of our quarters, causing a warmth over the room, I stood watching our twin boys sleep peacefully in their crib. Their tiny chests rose and fell in perfect rhythm, a sight that never failed to fill my heart with warmth and gratitude.Suddenly, I felt Declan’s presence behind me.
Chapter 150Declan’s POVAs the sun painted the sky in colors of red and orange, our pack returned to our home, weary but victorious. With Kendall and her mother by my side, we made our way back to the safety of our camp, the weight of our recent battles slowly lifting from our shoulders. That night, we gathered together for a feast, a celebration of our hard-won victory. The air was filled with laughter and music as we ate and drank, the scent of roasted meat and spiced wine mingling in the air.Around the fire, our pack members shared tales of bravery and triumph, their voices raised in joyful celebration. Kendall’s mother, her face illuminated by the flickering flames, shared stories of her own, her words a testament to the strength and resilience of our pack.As the night wore on, the tension of our recent battles faded into the background, replaced by a sense unity. For the first time in what felt like ages, we were able to relax and enjoy each other’s company, free from the con
Chapter 149Declan’s POVAs the excitement and rejoicing of our victory began to fade, I knew there was still one matter that needed to be addressed. I gathered everyone in the camp, their eyes fixed on me with a mixture of anticipation and apprehension.“Friends,” I began, my voice carrying across the clearing, “we have emerged victorious from this battle. But there is still one question that remains unanswered: what should we do with him?” I asked, pointing to my father-in-law bounded in chains.A murmur of voices erupted from the crowd. Some called for mercy, while others demanded justice. But as I looked around, I could see the steely determination in their eyes. They knew as well as I did that Kendall’s father was a threat that could not be ignored.Turning to Kendall, I sought her counsel, knowing that her opinion held weight among our people. “Kendall,” I said, my voice gentle yet firm, “what do you think we should do?”Kendall’s gaze was steady as she met mine, her expression
Chapter 148Declan’s POVAs the battle raged around us, I caught sight of Kendall’s mother among the chaos. My heart skipped a beat at the sight of her, a sense of dread flooding through me.What could she be doing here? I asked myself. Before I could approach her, she met my gaze with an expression. She approached me, her eyes filled with a fierce determination.“I can help weaken them,” she said, her voice steady. “But I need your men to attack fiercely when the time is right.”I nodded, understanding the gravity of her words. Even though she appeared weak and powerless, Kendall’s mother was a force to be reckoned with, her unique blend of werewolf and witch abilities giving her a power unlike any other. As she began her chants, I watched in awe as the magic began to take effect. The rogues fell to the ground, their movements sluggish and uncoordinated. The rest of our warriors seemed strengthened by the rogues’ weakness, their attacks more focused and precise. With a renewed sense
Chapter 147Kendall’s POVI sat in the small tent, my heart heavy with worry and fear for Declan and the men at war. The sounds of battle echoed in the distance, every sound sending shivers down my spine. As I prayed for their safety, a wounded warrior stumbled into the tent, his face pale and painted with blood. He gasped for breath, his words tumbling out in a rush.“We’re losing,” he said, his voice trembling with fear. “Your father… he’s using the rogues. They’re tearing through our men like… like nothing I’ve ever seen.”My heart sank at his words, a cold knot of dread forming in the pit of my stomach. I knew what it meant if my father succeeded in taking over our pack. We would become slaves, forced to bend to his will or face the consequences. The others in the tent looked at each other with wide eyes, the weight of the news sinking in. We were facing a force unlike anything any of us had ever encountered before, and the possibility of defeat seemed all too real now.But even i
Chapter 146Kendall’s POVOver the next hours, the palace courtyard buzzed with the energy of warriors readying themselves for battle. Guns were loaded , swords sharpened, and strategies were whispered among the ranks.Declan had ordered all women to stay back, to tend to the wounded who might make it back, but I had no intention of staying behind.Declan stood before me, his eyes filled with worry. “Kendall, you need to stay back with the others. It’s not safe for you and the baby to be out there.”I shook my head. “I can’t do that, Declan. These are my people. I can’t just sit back and watch them suffer the consequences of my father’s actions.”His face hardened with frustration. “It’s not just about them. It’s about you and our child. I can’t lose you, Kendall.”“I understand that, but if there’s going to be a war, I need to be there. I need to try and save as many people as I can. I’ve known these people all my life. I can’t abandon them now.”Declan sighed, running a hand through
Chapter 145Declan’s POVBack at the palace, the weight of Caden’s betrayal pressed heavily on my mind. Kendall and I couldn’t shake the horror of the things we saw, along with knowing that my best friend had been working with the enemy all along. We sat in the guest room given to us. Kendall’s eyes reflected my worry, her presence both a comforting and a reminder of the gravity of our situation.I had always relied on Caden, counted on him to have my back, and now that foundation had been destroyed by his greed and betrayal. I suspected Kendall’s father promised him control over my pack in exchange for his alliance.“I can’t believe it,” Kendall whispered softly. “How could he do this to you? To the pack?”I shook my head, the anger and hurt boiling within me. “I don’t know, Kendall. I thought I knew him, trusted him with everything. But now…”“I trusted him too, I sincerely thought he was my friend.” Kendall chimed in.My voice trailed off as I clenched my fists, trying to contain
Chapter 144Declan’s POVMy mind raced as the gravity of what we’d uncovered settled in. Turning humans into Lycans and placing them under his control—Kendall’s father was trying to resurrect an ancient power for his own gain. The implications were deadly.Just as we were about to leave, we heard footsteps through the corridor. We exchanged a panicked glance and quickly sought cover behind a large machine. The outside door creaked open, and my heart nearly stopped when Kendall’s father walked in.“Stay quiet,” I whispered, barely moving my lips. Kendall nodded, her face pale with fear.We peered through the gaps in the factory, watching as her father surveyed the lab with his men. He moved with a confidence that showed his confidence in the security of this place. He approached the table we had been examining and began rifling through the papers, humming to himself.“He has no idea we’re here,” Kendall mouthed, her eyes wide. I nodded, grateful we had locked the door when we entered.
Chapter 143Kendall’s POVThe atmosphere of the basement was thick with dust too, and the echo of our footsteps was the only sound in the emptiness. It looked like a factory, with machines and equipment, more sophisticated than the ones we saw above, spread around.“This place is huge,” I murmured almost to myself. “It feels like we’re in the wrong place.”Declan’s brow furrowed as he scanned the room. “We might not be. The spy said this was the place. We need to figure out what is going on here.”I couldn’t shake the feeling that we might have been led into a trap. “What if he set us up, Declan? What if my father knew we were coming and had the spy mislead us?”Declan shook his head, his eyes sharp and focused. “I don’t think so. I can sense something. There’s more to this place than meets the eye.”I nodded, trusting his instincts. We began to search through the factory, moving cautiously through the huge space. As we moved deeper, I noticed a section of the floor that looked differ
