Roselyn Moore POV
I trudged into the house, I was enveloped in darkness and silence, a clear sign that Sophie hadn't arrived home yet.
Maybe she's working late. I sigh, feeling a sense of relief at having the house to myself. I needed some time to unwind and reflect on the day's events, which had left me feeling drained.
I flipped the light switch and headed to the kitchen, where I poured myself a glass of warm water to soothe my parched throat. After quenching my thirst, I made my way to my bedroom to freshen up before cooking dinner for Sophie and me."
I dropped my bag on my desk and took out my phone. My eyes fell on the contract, which reminded me that Jeffrey had given me my own copy before I left the office. I took it out and stared at it for a while, lost in thought.
I sighed, placing it on the desk, and then walked toward the bathroom to indulge in a warm, soothing bath. I needed it's comforting warmth to alleviate the emotional turmoil I'd endured today.
I came out of the bathroom, drying my hair with a towel. I took a seat on my bed, and my eyes landed on the contract on the desk. I stood up and picked it up, making myself comfortable on the bed, as I carefully read through it.
"Party A: Liam Harrison, Party B: Roselyn Moore" I read, my eyes scanning through the contract as I opened the page.
By signing below, Party B acknowledges that they have read, understand, and agree to comply with all the rules, terms, and conditions stated in this contract by Party A.
I let out a scornful snort, more like forced to agree to his terms.
I hissed, and my gaze dropped to the signature lines, where I saw both mine and Mr. Harrison's names staring back at me. The reality finally sunk in more, and my mind digested the fact I had agreed to be the devil's wife for a year.
A pool of tears formed in my eyes, but I held them in. Tough times call for tough decisions, and I could only hope that the year would pass quickly and my dad would have recovered by then.
I dove deeper into the contract, going through the rules and conditions outlined by Mr. Harrison.
Rule 1: Relationship Restrictions.
For the entire duration of this contract, Party B is strictly prohibited from entering into any form of relationship, including but not limited to romantic, intimate, or social interactions, with any male person other than Party A.'
"This is ridiculous," I fumed. "I am not his possession."
Rule 2: Physical Distance
When not in the presence of Party A's family members, Party B shall maintain a reasonable physical distance from Party A at all times to avoid any appearance of familiarity or intimacy.
I scoffed, "As if I'd want to be anywhere close to him."
Rule 3: Notification requirements
Party B is required to inform Party A prior to going anywhere and must receive his express consent before leaving the premises or attending any event.
"What am I, his prisoner?" I snapped, my mind feeling trapped at this.
Rule 4: Party B shall attend all social events and functions designated by Party A, and shall behave in a manner befitting a respectable wife.
"Respectable wife?" I sneered, the more I read, the more my blood boiled with anger at these ridiculous rules.
Rule 5: Party B shall dress modestly and conservatively at all times, as dictated by Party A's discretion.
"Great, so he gets to control what I wear too," I seethe.
Rule 6: Party B shall maintain the utmost confidentiality regarding the existence and terms of this agreement. She shall not disclose any information about the contract to anyone, including but not limited to friends, family members, acquaintances, or colleagues.
Rule 7: Party B shall not engage in any activities that may be deemed unladylike or inappropriate by Party A.
"Unladylike?, inappropriate?"
I couldn't fight the urge to roll my eyes, the rules were becoming more absurd than the last.
Rule 8: Party B shall not engage in any behaviour or activity that could potentially tarnish the reputation of Party A's company or family name. This includes causing a public scandal, saying something controversial, or behaving badly.
Rule 9: Party B shall not, under any circumstances, develop romantic feelings or fall in love with Party A. Any breach of this rule shall result in immediate termination of the contract, and Party B shall forfeit all rights and privileges granted herein.
I couldn't help but laugh, tears welling up in my eyes at the absurdity of falling for Mr. Harrison.
"Only a fool would fall in love with a heartless, and controlling asshole like him? He is so arrogant and only cares about himself. The thought of even loving him makes my stomach churn."
The rules went on and on, each one more suffocating than the last. I felt like I was losing myself, trapped in a nightmare of Mr. Harrison's making.
But sadly, I had no other choice. I remembered what Dr. Richard had said, if they hadn't performed the surgery today, Dad's situation would have worsened. Hopefully, he'll get better now that he's being transferred to a much better hospital.
I placed the contract in my desk drawer, and I heard my phone ringing. I picked up my phone to see it was Sophie.
"Hey Rose, I'm sorry I won't be able to make it home tonight, I'm running behind schedule and I still have some work to wrap up with the team here at the office."
“Will you be fine by yourself? If you are not, I can try convincing my boss to let me off” she said, her voice dripping with concern.
"No, it's fine, you don't have to," I assured her. I will be fine, don't worry."
“You sure?” she pressed.
"Yes, don't worry, take care of yourself and don't overwork."
"Alright, I'll see you tomorrow," she sighed, ending the call.
"Time to go make something to eat," I said, heading to the kitchen to prepare a light dinner.
The days went by quickly, and it has already been two weeks since I agreed to be Mr. Harrison's wife. My dad had already been transferred to the hospital arranged by Mr. Harrison, though he hasn't woken up yet. But the doctors said there is a chance of him waking up soon. I made sure to make time to be with him, telling him about my day and how much I missed him and can't wait for him to get back on his feet. Even though he can't hear me, I still felt the need to keep him up to date about the things happening in my life, excluding the fact that I just sold my soul to the devil for him.
Mr. Harrison is still the same as always, one would think agreeing to be his wife would make him treat me like an employee and never fails to scold me at every chance he gets.
Suddenly, the intercom rang, and I picked it up to hear Mr. Harrison's voice.
"In my office now, Miss Moore," he ordered.
I braced myself as I headed towards his office, by the tone of his voice it probably going to be another scolding and shouting from him.
"You sent for me, sir," I said, standing in front of his desk, anticipating his anger.
"Get ready, we're going over to my family's for dinner today." He stated, his eyes till on the paperwork before him.
His words caught me off guard, sending my heart into a brief flutter. Though I'd anticipated meeting them eventually, but I had been hoping it wouldn't be this soon, the sudden reality made my stomach twist with anxiety.
Liam Harrison POVI had been pondering ways to overcome the predicament my grandfather had created, but then the universe offered a solution. I knew asking Miss Moore to be my wife was unconventional, but when she requested an advance on her salary, my mind couldn't help but suggest the proposal. Now that she has agreed to be my wife, I would gain control of company when we get married and my grandfather transfers the ownership to me, finally freeing me from his grasp.Miss Moore may think I'm being unreasonable, but this is a mutual arrangement that would benefit the both of us. I gain control of the company while she receives financial support for her father's medical bills. It's simply a business transaction. Initially, I was already considering paying for her father's medical bills anonymously if she still refused my proposal, and I was prepared to find someone else to pose as my wife. But it seems fate had other plans, creating a situation where she had no choice but to accept m
Roselyn POV Time seemed to stand still as my emotions swirled around me like a raging hurricane. My feelings closed to a tornado, ripping through my soul. “We'll head to the salon first to get you ready, then proceed to the ancestral mansion.“"Em...okay, sir." I stutter, fidgeting my finger as I dread meeting his family. Although I'd heard rumors that his parents were down-to-earth, but his grandfather, Old Master Harrison, was a tough nut to crack. I knew I had to act well to convince his family that our relationship was genuine."We'll leave by 4 p.m.," he glanced at me. "Okay, sir," I said, before returning to my desk to mentally prepare myself for tonight. I glanced over at the clock and saw that there were just two hours left until 4 pm."You got this, Rose, how hard could it be pretending to be his wife?" I muster, but the thought of faking a romantic connection with Mr. Harrison already felt like a mission impossible."Hopefully it goes well tonight," I sighed, focusing on
Liam Harrison POVI turned my gaze from my phone as she stepped into the car, and I couldn't help but stare at her; she looked absolutely stunning. When I realized I had been staring for too long, I pulled my gaze away from her and instructed the driver to drive.Remembering how clumsy she could be at times, I warned her not to mess up tonight, as I needed everything to go perfectly well this night.I found myself stealing glances at her as she gazed out the window, taking in her side view. Gone were the suit and pencil skirt with tight buns, her hair fell in a gentle waves down her back.As we drove through the mansion's gates, I observed her reaction with interest, her eyes widened in awe as she took in the surroundings of the mansion. The car finally came to a stop at the mansion's entrance, and I suddenly recalled the ring I had asked Jeffrey to get for me at the last minute."Here," I said, handing her a box.She gazed at it with curiosity before opening the box, and her eyes li
Roselyn POVIt was crazy how the Harrisons had managed to organize an entire wedding in just two weeks. When Mr. Harrison had informed me we were getting married in a fortnight, my jaw had nearly hit the floor. I was expecting months of planning, not a date set practically overnight. He’d told me not to worry about the preparation that it would be taken care of. All I had to do was show up on the wedding day. I felt like I was a guest at my own wedding. I had always wanted to plan my own wedding... pick my own wedding dress, pick my own food, pick my own cake, pick the venue, and plan everything from scratch, but I guess I won't get the chance to do all that.I tried to convince myself that it was better this way, easier even. Less pressure, less stress. I didn’t have to worry about anything; just walk down the aisle and say the words. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t shake the sense of loss that clung to me like a shadow. It wasn’t just about the wedding itself; it was abou
Roselyn POVWe walked out of the church with the crowd throwing flower petals, applauding us. I accepted their congratulations with a faux smile tugging on my face, feeling nothing but a shell of myself. The reception was being held at the Golden Royals, one of Mr. Harrison's notable investments. The hall was decorated in creamy white and gold accents with dimmable chandeliers creating an intimate ambiance, the fresh flower arrangement adorning the tables. A spacious dance floor for guests to enjoy, its breathtaking elegance and luxury exude refinement and sophistication. The hall was filled, properly hosting close to 200 plus guests, most I could recognize were Mr. Harrison's family, colleagues from the office, and some business associates of the company. Mr. Harrison mingled with the guests, I sat uncomfortably fidgeting in my seat, an awkward smile forming on my lips as I watched four of my colleagues from the office approaching.“Omg, congratulations, Rose. Roselyn POVI squinted my eyes as the sun's blinding light assaulted my vision as I stepped out of the jet and took in my surroundings. “We are in Dubai,” Liam said, striding past me towards a shiny black Audi A8.“Are you coming, or you're planning on standing there all day?“ He shouted over his shoulder, making me jolt. I scurried towards him.Two hefty-looking bodyguards bowed to him, and Liam nodded in response. He stepped into the car, and I followed suit. The ride was silent and awkward. Liam's attention was fixed on his phone, his fingers swiftly moving across the screen as he typed rapidly. The bulky men's intimidating presence made the air feel thick and oppressive, their silence more unsettling than any words.I rolled down the window, breathing in the city's fresh air as I drank in the moving scenery before me. Roselyn’s POVThe warm, golden light cast a gentle glow on my face as I breathed in the hazy, smoggy air of New York. Finally, home sweet home.I was stunned when Liam knocked on my door last night and told me to pack my things, saying we’d be leaving for the airport first thing in the morning. Though I was sad I didn’t get to explore Dubai, I was more than happy to be back home. I missed Sophie, and most of all, I missed my dad. I’ll definitely visit him one of these days. As we stood outside the airport, a sleek, matte gray Lamborghini Urus pulled up, sleek and imposing. I gawked as a middle-aged man with a dignified air stepped out of the driver’s seat, bowing slightly. “Good morning, Mr. Harrison. Good morning, Mrs. Harrison. Welcome back.”My jaw dropped as Liam strode past me toward the car without missing a beat. Damn. I knew he was rich, but this? Roselyn's POVThose dark, angry eyes bore into me like daggers, and all I wanted was for the ground to open up and swallow me whole. Not only did I invade his privacy by digging through his things, but I had to break it too. From the way he’s staring at the shattered piece, I can tell it was important—important enough that I’m about to face the consequences. My heart pounds as I brace myself, wondering just how bad the fallout will be."I'm so sorry! I... I didn't mean to drop it," I stammer, scrambling for words. But one look at his face tells me my apology won’t help me now.His eyes narrow, darkening as he stares at the broken pieces. His nostrils flare, and his jaw clenches tight.“You didn’t mean to drop it?” His voice was a low, dangerous growl that sent a chill down my spine. “Then tell me—why was it even in your hands?”I swallowed hard, bracing myself for the storm I knew was coming.“What gave you the right to go through my things?” he roared, stepping closer. Each word lash
Liam's POVAfter dropping Roselyn off at her house, I instructed Mr. James to drive to the office as fast as possible. Thankfully, with minimal traffic, we made it there in just fifteen minutes. I’d asked Jeffery if Patricia had left her contact information, but he said she hadn’t. She’d left as soon as she realized I wasn’t there, and that was it—no message, no reason for her visit. Frustration boiled over, and without a second thought, I booked a flight back to New York, wasting no time. As soon as I stepped out of the elevator, I found Jeffery waiting for me, looking a bit tense. "Are you absolutely certain it was her, Jeffery? Because if this turns out to be some twisted joke, you might want to start packing up your desk."Jeffery's eyes widened, and he nodded frantically. "I swear, sir, it was her. She’s look more mature, but I’d never forget that face." His voice held a firm certainty, leaving no room for doubt.I sighed, my heart pounding against my chest, my mind spiraling
Roselyn's POVI sighed, already feeling the emptiness of leaving my comfort zone. I bet if anyone saw me, they’d think I was gearing up for combat, not just stepping out of my comfort zone. Two hours ticked by in silence, each passing moment amplifying my anxiety as my mind racing with thoughts of how my life was about to drastically change, now that I'd be living with the one person I desperately wanted to be far away from. Spending nine hours a day with him at the office was already unbearable, and now I’d be sharing every second with him in the same space. But this was what I signed up for, and there was no going back, so I had no choice but to put on my big-girl pants and tough it out for a year. Hopefully, I could tolerate him and just get this over with.My eyes drift out the window as we glided through a tall, ornate gate of wrought iron and gold leaf, which swung open to reveal a winding driveway lined with towering oak and pine trees. The mansion stood majestically on a sprawl
