Wrong timing

I saw it in her face, the hurt as she stared at the table, the keys lying abandoned on the floor, even her defeated stance. And I knew it was all happening again. My actions are being misinterpreted. I shouldn’t have tried to hide it from her.

I had been trying to sort out the information I found about her mother for days now and I couldn’t believe my eyes, I didn’t know how she’d take it. I had been considering burying it forever. Maybe she had been right to stay out of it.

“Emily,” I murmured, reaching out to her.

They looked up and noticed my presence. I saw how she took in my look, the robe I was wearing, and my wet hair. She would have seen it around the room that I had been around for days and there was no point in lying.

I saw the rage of emotions as she pulled herself together, I saw all the effort I had put into making her relax go down the drain. “It’s not what you think.” I tried.
