Bella's POV

The moonlight spilled through the slanted window, casting faint silver shadows across the floor of the guest room. I laid still, curled under a soft throw, trying to sleep, but something kept me alert.

Maybe it was the leftover tension from earlier—watching Harper disappear into the woods with that cloaked figure. I hadn’t told June yet. Couldn’t. I saw how she smiled with Harper around, I didn't want to ruin their love life.

Outside the lake house, the night was quiet, except for the occasional call of crickets and the soft lapping of the lake. June and Harper had gone back down to the beach not too long ago. I’d heard their voices floating through the open window, laughter mixed with low conversation. I had pretended to be asleep.

I sat up and swung my legs over the side of the bed, rubbing my arms to chase away the cold. Something kept pulling at me—not my wolf this time, but curiosity. I wasn’t snooping. At least, that’s what I told myself as I stepped out into the

Bella’s POV Days passed and it was over two weeks since we moved tk the pack house. Still, I was uncomfortable. Always looking over my shoulder and feeling as if someone was watching me. Maybe, I was just being paranoid. It was another morning and another day in morning air off the lake carried a soft chill, enough to make me pull my sleeves down as I walked along the wooden deck barefoot. The sun had barely risen, but I couldn't sleep—not after last night. Not after everything Harper had said. The journal. The blood moon. The blood moon whatever prophecy.June stepped out onto the dock behind me, holding two steaming mugs. “Thought you might need this.”I took the cup gratefully. “Thanks.”We sat at the edge of the dock, legs dangling over the water. Mist clung to the lake. She sipped, then nudged my shoulder. “You okay?”“Define okay.”June laughed softly, then leaned her head against mine. “I’m still wrapping my head around it, too. But… you know, I kinda always suspected somethi

Bella’s POV I asked, not liking the way her voice dipped lower. She met my gaze. “And for certain wolves… it awakens things. Dormant abilities, old blood too.”I stiffened. “What kind of abilities?” it was getting more interesting. Harper looked up at the cloudy sky. “Depends. Some hear the thoughts of other wolves. Some can command packs they don’t belong to. Others… their presence alone shifts the balance.”“That sounds like folklore.”“That’s what I thought too. Until I met someone who lived through it.”“Who?”“My grandfather,” she said. “He tracked wolves for most of his life. Helped a few. Hunted a few. He met a girl—young, like you. Born under a red moon. Her eyes would glow even when she wasn’t shifting.”My skin prickled. “What happened to her?”“She vanished. After the council tried to force her into submission.”I looked down at the lake, my throat felt tight. “You think I’m like her?”Harper didn’t answer right away. “I think something’s stirring in you. And I think the

Bella’s POV Her name was Susan. Mid-fifties. Always wore a sunhat and walked her obnoxious poodle like it was royalty.“June!” she called as she waved and crossed the lawn. “Good to see you, dear.”June smiled politely. “Hey, Susan.”“And you must be Bella!” Her eyes sparkled with curiosity. “Heard you were staying a while.”I gave her a tight smile. “Just taking it one day at a time.”Susan’s gaze narrowed just slightly. “You okay, dear? You look pale. Not feeling ill, are you?”“I’m fine,” I said quickly.June stepped in. “Bella had a bit of a migraine earlier. Weather changes, you know? She’s sensitive to pressure.”Susan tsked. “Poor thing. You know, my cousin gets those. You might want to try lavender oil. Or garlic.”“I’ll keep that in mind,” I said flatly. After a few more pleasantries, Susan finally walked off, and June exhaled.“Thanks,” I muttered. She shrugged. “What are friends for?”I didn’t say it aloud, but I knew she wasn’t just covering for me. She was protecting me.

Bella’s POV “I don’t even know what that means!”June touched my arm. “We’ll figure it out. Together.”I looked at her, my chest tight. “You should leave. Both of you. You don’t need to get dragged into this.”“Too late,” June said. “I’m already in.”“And I’m not leaving my own house,” Harper muttered, still scribbling glowing sigils.I stared at her hands. “Those markings… they’re real magic?”“Yes,” she said without looking up. “And I’m using every drop of it to ward this place. But it won’t last forever.”“Why didn’t you tell me what you were?” I asked.“Because you weren’t ready to hear it.”“And now I am?”Harper finally faced me. “Now you don’t have a choice.”We stood in silence for a moment. June’s hand didn’t leave my arm. Harper’s magic pulsed in faint streaks across the doorframe and windows. My wolf was quiet, but alert. Watching.I whispered, “Do you think they’ll come back?”Harper didn’t blink. “Yes. And next time, they’ll bring more.”“So what do we do?” I asked.Harp

Sage POV I had lost count of how many days I’d been locked in this damned cell. The stone walls reeked of silver and dampness, a painful reminder that I was no longer Alpha… or at least, no longer seen as one.The curse twisted inside me like a living thing. My limbs were still beast-like, grotesque—fur clinging to patches of skin, claws that wouldn’t retract, eyes that glowed even in darkness. I could barely shift back to human form for longer than a few minutes. And those minutes? Agonizing.I slammed my shoulder into the door again. Nothing happened. The silver-lined bars didn’t even rattle. My snarl echoed through the corridor, but the guards didn’t flinch anymore. They got used to it. They just muttered amongst themselves and stood stone-still, refusing to meet my eyes.“I am still your Alpha!” I growled, my voice cracked and layered with the beast's snarl beneath it. “You swore loyalty to me!”There was silence.Only the slow drip of water from the ceiling answered me. Malrick’s POV The scent of fear hung in the council room like smoke. Not thick enough to suffocate though, but it felt like I was feeding off it like fuel.Elder Myra sat at the far end of the stone table, fingers steepled under her chin. The others had taken their usual places, faces lined with exhaustion. No one wanted to be the first to speak. Good. I preferred it that way.I rose from my chair and slowly walked to the center of the room. Every step was careful, it was silent and it echoed just enough to remind them I wasn’t merely a beta filling in for an absent Alpha. I was the only one willing to lead in a crisis.“I know what you’re all thinking,” I said, voice low but sure. “You’re asking yourselves—what if we’re wrong about him? What if Sage can be saved?”They didn’t respond. But their silence was loud.I kept going. “Let’s say you’re right. Let’s say the curse is temporary. Can we risk the safety of the pack on a maybe?”Still nothing. A few heads turned away. One of the y

Malrick’s POV The moment I stepped out of Sage's cell, I didn’t hesitate. I didn’t breathe. I didn’t allow the chill that crept into my spine to settle. I marched straight down the corridor and summoned the guards.“Wake the council,” I barked. “Tell them I’ve called an emergency session. Now.”They didn’t question me. They obeyed. I had cultivated that fear well.Within the hour, the council chamber was alight with torches and whispers. Elders filed in wearing hastily donned robes, some were still bleary-eyed from being roused in the dead of night. The storm outside echoed the turmoil I had been feeding them for days.Elder Myra took her seat last. Her sharp gaze found mine immediately. “This better be worth our time, Malrick.”I stood at the head of the table, postured tall. “It is. Sage is slipping. Fast. I’ve just come from his cell.”Murmurs rose.“He spoke,” I said. “Clearly. Coldly. But not as our Alpha. As something else.”Myra narrowed her eyes. “Are you saying the curse is

Sage POV The torchlight flickered as footsteps echoed down the narrow corridor leading to my cell. I didn’t lift my head at first. It was probably just another round of guards coming to gawk at the cursed Alpha in a cage. But the steps were light and cautious."Psst," a voice whispered. "Alpha. Get up."My eyes snapped open. A young guard stood at the bars, hood pulled low over his face. His hands trembled, but his voice held something I hadn't heard in days.Loyalty."What did you just call me?""Alpha," he repeated, firmer this time. He glanced over his shoulder before pulling a set of keys from beneath his cloak. "I don’t have long. The council thinks I’m on watch duty at the west gate."I rose slowly, the chains around my wrists clinked. "You realize what you’re doing could get you executed.""So would stay quiet while Malrick destroys everything you built."The lock clicked, and the cell door creaked open. I didn’t hesitate. As soon as I stepped out, I caught the guard by the sh

Liam POVThe wind in Norway felt really good and homy.Every morning, I told myself I’d get used to it. The quietness, the open roads, the way people nodded politely and kept to themselves. But after nearly two months, I still couldn’t breathe right in this place.“Try to blend in,” Harper had said. “Stay off the radar.”“Hard to do when your instincts scream every time a branch cracks.” I always replied. I walked to the edge of the woods again. There was no particular reason. Just the usual scent check, energy scan, terrain memory. The soil here held no pack. No old blood. No buried bones. But the wind was wrong. It felt like someone was watching. I stopped at the base of a twisted pine and sniffed the air but there was nothing. Just frost and tree sap and sea fog.But I didn’t imagine it. I never imagined it.Bella was already home when I returned. She stood in the kitchen in her scrubs, sleeves pushed to her elbows, hair tied back. A soft glow followed her now. Subtle, but I could

Bella’s POV I went to bed quietly without thinking too much about the previous day. In a few hours, it was already dawn. The sky was still dark when I slipped out of the house. No creaking floors, no whispers of magic, no Liam lurking by the window with his arms crossed and jaw clenched. Just the sound of my boots crunching soft frost as I made my way down the gravel path toward the clinic.I didn’t want them to wake up. Not when something inside me had started to shift—slow, quiet, but impossible to ignore.I caught my reflection in a dark shop window on the way. Same face. Same eyes. But there was something in my posture, in the way I moved. Like I was walking toward something instead of running away from it.The clinic buzzed with chatter when I arrived. Coffee cups, paperwork, a few yawning nurses brushing off the last traces of sleep. I smiled, nodded, and kept my head down. As usual.“Bella,” Sofia, the charge nurse, waved me over. “Room five. Triage.”I tossed my bag into the

Bella’s POV“Don’t speak unless asked. Don’t stare. And for Moon’s sake, don’t howl.” Harper said to me with a stern voice. I didn't object to what she was saying because I was too disoriented to make any decision for myself. It all felt like I was on a borrowed life. Nothing that had happened since I left the pack made any sense. How I went from belonging to a pack and being no different from a rogue felt frustrating. Harper shoved a dark blue passport into my hand as we neared the airport gates. Her voice was steady, but her eyes flicked around like she expected someone to jump us before we hit the terminal. June handed Liam a small black backpack, zipped shut and stiff with forged documents.“Where did you even get these?” I asked, eyeing the name printed inside the booklet. Annabelle Moon. Born in Toronto. Age twenty-four. Blood type O negative.“Don’t worry about it,” Harper muttered. “A friend of a friend who owes me two favors and one broken kneecap.”I raised an eyebrow. “C

Bella’s POV The street lights flickered above us as Liam and I kept began walking, his words earlier still echoed in my head. Born twice. Chosen. The Seal of the Broken Moon. I didn’t know what scared me more—his belief in this prophecy or the part of me that didn’t entirely want to disbelieve him anymore.“We need to get out of this town,” Liam said again, glancing behind us like he expected someone to leap out of the shadows. “They’ll come back.”I stopped walking. “And what are you going to do? Just keep following me around like some cursed shadow?”He turned, his jaw was tight, his voice was low. “No. I’m going with you.” he responded. I blinked. “To do what, exactly?”“Protect you,” he said. “Like I should have earlier.”Something in his voice made it hard to argue. So I didn’t.We passed a 24-hour diner, the windows glowing soft yellow in the night. “I need food,” I muttered. “Something that isn’t gas station jerky or stolen crackers.”Liam nodded. “Quick. We don’t have long.”

  • Bound By The Moon: The Alpha’s Regret   Chapter Forty Three

Bella POVI woke up choking on smoke. My lungs felt clogged as I shot up from the floor, coughing and swiping at the air. The mattress I’d been sleeping on was torn to shreds, and the front window was shattered. Moonlight illuminated the room—right onto the three snarling wolves standing in the middle of the room. I didn’t think so. I shifted.Bones cracked and skin split, and the pain of the transformation barely registered. My wolf hit the ground running, claws scrabbled across the wood as I dodged a lunging gray brute with scars across his snout. One of them managed to land a slash along my side. Fire raced through my ribs. I howled, more in fury than pain, and leapt through the broken window.I ran as fast and hard as my legs could. Branches tore at my fur as I barreled through the trees. Behind me, paws thundered. They were following me. Of course they were. But I knew these woods now. I veered hard left, ducked under a fallen log, and doubled back. It threw them off just enoug

Harper’s POV The dream didn’t feel like a dream. It started like falling—only slower. The room around me disappeared. The sound of the wind outside the lake house faded into a strange, pulsing silence. I was no longer lying on the couch but standing in a forest I didn’t recognize, shadows weaving between the trees like smoke. The sky was a dull red, the kind of color that came right before disaster. Then I saw her.Bella.She was in wolf form, her fur slick with blood, eyes wide and wild. She stumbled, clearly injured, but kept running, limping through a thick underbrush. Something followed her—something fast, something not entirely solid. I couldn’t see it clearly, only the way the trees seemed to recoil when it passed. Then I heard a voice, older than anything I’d ever known.“The marked wolf cannot hide. The hunt has begun.”The image flashed, and Bella’s human face appeared—eyes pleading, lips trembling. She reached out, mouthing something I couldn’t hear—I jolted awake, gaspi

Bella’s POV “Say it,” I snapped. “You think I’m that wolf?”His silence was all the answer I needed.“You’ve been watching me like I’m a threat.”“No,” he said finally. “Like you’re a target.”I narrowed my eyes. “That supposed to make me feel better?”He stepped closer, and I instinctively took a step back.“I didn’t know for sure at first,” he said. “But the way you fought that rogue… the way you healed. Something’s different about you.”“You don’t know anything about me.”“I know your scent changed the moment you crossed into this town. I know there’s power humming under your skin that most wolves don’t carry. And I know others are looking for you.”My chest tightened. “Who?”He didn’t answer.I turned sharply. “We’re done here.”“You need to be careful,” he said. “If they find you first—”“I said we’re done.”I shifted before he could say another word, bones snapping, fur bursting through skin as I let the wolf take over. My wolf didn’t hesitate. She bolted through the trees, hea

Bella’s POV I jolted awake, heart racing, sweat slicked my back. The garage was still. My leg ached, but the bleeding had stopped. The dream clung to me, the whisper of my father’s voice echoed in my mind.I sat up slowly, pulling the thin blanket around my shoulders. And that’s when I heard it.Liam’s voice. Low. Steady. From just outside the door.He was on the phone.“She’s here,” he said. “I’m sure of it.”There was silence and then, softer: “No. She hasn’t said anything yet. But I’ll keep watching.”My heart dropped. He wasn’t just a café owner. And I wasn’t just a runaway anymore.I didn’t say a word about the call, nor did I flinch. I didn’t ask questions either. When Liam stepped back inside and saw me wide awake, I let my eyes drift shut again, pretending to sleep. He didn’t say anything. Bella’s POV After walking for hours, I finally arrived at a small town. The town looked like something out of a painting—quiet, still, and wrapped in morning fog. I hadn’t even known its name when I arrived, only that it was off the main highway and surrounded by mountains thick with trees. The kind of place you could disappear in.Perfect.I used a name that wasn’t mine—Leah Ward. I lied that I was just passing through, maybe staying a few weeks. No one asked too many questions, not here. I could breathe again, kind of.I looked around and I spotted a cafe. The café was small and warm, tucked between a bookstore and an old barber shop. I saw the sign—Wolf Pine Café—and something in me stilled. I almost turned away, but my stomach growled louder than my instincts. I stepped inside. The bell above the door jingled.A man behind the counter glanced up. Dark hair. Slate-gray eyes. His jaw ticked when he saw me, like he was trying not to react too quickly. He looked me over, not in the w
