(ALEXANDER POV)

The car was still there as I studied it with furrowed brows.

I felt this squeeze in my abdomen and just as I was beginning to take a step closer to it,

A sudden sound from behind made me pause.

The sound of footsteps and voices merging at the same time.

Low murmurs drifted from the entrance, growing closer and closer.

I flung my head toward the source.

The front door was standing half opened.

And from the space ahead, two figures came out.

The first on the right was my mother.

Her delicate features were locked in wide-eyed disbelief, her lips parted as if I was a ghost paying a visit.

She appeared hesitant, struggling to process the sight of me standing there.

And next to her, looking all plumpy and classy as always but less shocked, was Isabella.

My sister.

Her typical knowing smirk pushed at her lips, her arms folding over her chest with the kind of satisfaction that easily boiled my blood.

For a moment, none of us spoke.

The weight

(ALEXANDER’S POV) After my father's question Isabella started to lean forward, her elbows on the table. Then, with a sharp exhale, she broke the silence. "I must’ve misheard you too. Like, did you just say engage?" I didn’t answer. Instead, I held her gaze, keeping my expression blank. But that only made her go further, "If yes, To whom, Alex? Because I just saw Lila not too long ago. She looked perfectly single and didn’t mention anything about a wedding." At the mention of Lila’s name I tightened my fist. Exhaling slowly, controlling my reaction. And the more my quietness persisted the more Isabella took it as an invitation to continue. "You can't possibly mean to tell me you ran off and proposed to someone else just like that. Who is she? What’s her name? Where did she come from? And more importantly, how did this even happen so quickly?" Her words came sharp and fast, hitting their mark. I spread my legs under the desk thinking of the best way to shut her

(NATALIE POV) Sophie bent into her car for the upteenth time , her breathing unsteady. As I followed her with half alarmed, half curious eyes. “My wallet is here,” she murmured, her voice oddly hollow. “But my ID is gone.” The shock was like getting drenched with cold water. “What?” She didn’t answer, she was already busy with flipping open the glove compartment. Her movements growing sharper, more desperate. She knew what she was looking for. She already knew it wasn’t there. Then, she found the confirmation. “Oh my God..” she whispered, pulling out a small stack of documents. Her face had lost all color. “My insurance and registration,” she breathed. “They’re missing.” For a second, my mind refused to register what she had just confirmed. Then, the implications finally rung through. Someone had been inside her car. They hadn’t just snooped they had taken specific things. Personal things. Things that could track her. “Sophie…” I tried to sp

(NATALIE POV) It was finally Friday, the doctor said my father was fit for discharge. Something was different about the hospital room this time Although the scent of antiseptic still remained in the air the relief I felt watching my father sit upright dressed in the dark blue T-shirt I had brought for him was more than enough to make up for the smell. there was this glow to his face now, and for the first time in a long time, his eyes did not carry the dull burden of sickness. I sat beside him, reassuring myself that he was really here, really alive. The reality of how close I had come to losing him kept coming up, but it only helped me appreciate his recovery even more. Sophie was standing near the window and my mother had positioned herself at the foot of the bed, hands joined in front of her. The doctor was also here with us, carrying that affectionate but cautious smile. "Mr. Thompson I’m pleased to say you’re in good shape for discharge," he began, "Howev

(GENERAL POV) Lila was standing motionless in her apartment, her back to the wide central window in the sitting room. Her expression was grim and her gaze fixed straight ahead instead of at the muscular man speaking to her. It was as if she was staring through the walls themselves. The name of the man standing next to her was Marco Godson. A guy with a really rough face, his nose looked like it had been broken once or maybe twice in the past. He exuded the kind of dangerous aura that came from years of operating in the shadows. Without a word, he reached into his coat and pulled out a small bundle of stolen items, tossing them onto the coffee table between them. ID, insurance, and car registration landed with a soft slap against the wood. The name of the owner was openly displayed…Sophie Bennett. “It’s all there,” Marco announced confidently. “Got in, got out. No one saw me. Also dropped the note” Lila’s eyes shifted to the items, but her hands remained at her

(Third-Person POV, Past Tense) Lila's lashes flipped up and down, but she remained still after Alexander's words. “Whatever the hell you stole from that girl, return it. Now.” A slow smile touched Lila’s lips. She bent her head slightly, allowing the silence to stretch before speaking. “Aren’t you just being dramatic?” “Don’t play games with me, Lila.” Alexander's voice had twice it's initial fury now. “I’m done with you. Do you hear me? Done. Stay away from me, and return those damn documents.” Lila made a mocking expression before letting out a quiet chuckle, changing her posture slightly. “Oh, Alexander, you’re such a joker.” She paused to take a deep breath as if to calm herself. The look on her face after this, was one of amusement. Then, she continued, slowly and deliberately, each word reeking of an intention to trigger him. “What happened between us was normal in relationships. But if you thought my brief moment of stepping away meant you could run

(THIRD POV) Lila’s body went ice cold for a second before she regained herself again Her lips parted slightly, but no words came just yet. Across from her, Isabella stood with a stance that was deceptively casual, one arm folded over her waist. Lila stopped just before her, head lowering before she finally found the voice to ask, “Who is it?” Isabella exhaled, she twisted her lips as if tasting something bitter before answering. “I don’t know yet,” she admitted with a shrug. “All I know is that I was with my parents today when Alex showed up unannounced. We were just having lunch, everything was normal, and then…” she snapped her fingers, “Out of nowhere, he just blurts it out. He’s engaged. He proposed to her. And from the look of things…A wedding is coming up soon.” Silence fell. Lila’s face remained still, But her eyes were locked on Isabella, she could not speak. Isabella, waited with a lifted a brow. But when no reaction came, when saw that Lila si

(Alexander POV) My fingers were spread over the keyboard on this Wednesday afternoon, The spreadsheets, the investment reports, the endless flow of numbers that had occupied my mind all day everything had begun to merge together. I let out a deep calming breath, leaning back against my leather chair. The muscles in my shoulders ached from hours of tension, and I started to loosen my tie, tugging at the knot until I could breathe a little bit easier It didn’t help much though. Nothing had, not for the past few days. My mind had been a battlefield, torn between managing the company and all the personal mess I have been trying to put up with. And the first on that list was my ex, Lila. The mere thought of her name sent irritation round my skin. I had just discovered not too long ago that, that girl wasn’t just watching Natalie she was in fact keeping surveillance on her, like some obsessed predator. And as if that wasn't enough she had crossed another line, she had

(Alexander’s POV)My eyes narrowed as I followed Natalie's gaze, turning sharply to see what had made her freeze like that. And then I saw the two shocking figures.Standing side by side in the parking lot, as if they had materialized out of the shadows themselves. It was the faces of my sister and ex.Isabella’s face was a picture of alarm, her eyes blown wide, lips slightly parted, and for a moment all she did not was gawk at Natalie like she had also seen a spirit. But Lila’s expression was different. She looked composed and sly.She was looking like she had expected this moment. Like she had been waiting for it, like she was infact the mastermind of everything.I ground my teeth, my head slightly bent. What where they doing here? How long had they been here? Had they been watching us all along? For what? And why was Isabella looking at Natalie like that?It definitely wasn’t just surprise. No, this appeared like something more. “Recognition”Had they met before or something?H

(NATALIE'S POV)My mind went blank for a second or maybe more, I couldn’t feel anything. Not even the sharp, sterile chill of the air conditioning that had been bothering me since I entered.Everything froze.Just moments ago, Alexander had blurted those words, “You’ll be moving in with me.”They bounced around in my skull like broken glass, slicing into everything I thought I had resolved back home barely an hour ago.I had made up my mind.I was going to end this contract.End it tonight. Now here was I sitting, blinking at him, as he just… casually flipped the script on me like none of it mattered. Like my feelings were nothing but some irrelevant footnote in his bigger picture.“Live with him?”I swallowed hard.Like he and I under the same roof? Waking up to his face every morning?Having to deal with the sharp glances of his sister who clearly wanted me out the second I walked in?Having to smile and pretend to his parents whom I was sure must have seen the news already and

I looked up slowly. My eyes meeting my mother's own squarely and for a moment, everything else, including from my now fallen phone faded into the background.Mom was still standing just a few feet away, arms folded tight,Her brows were furrowed, not in anger, but in that subtle way that mothers do when they’re trying to read your soul. She was trying to reach the part of me I wasn’t saying out loud, She was searching for something in my expression. And I knew exactly what she thought she was seeing.Something around the threshold of guilt. And from her side of the picture, it probably made sense. I was looking like a mess, and to her, that was probably enough clue to fix her puzzle.I felt my chest tighten, as a new wave of frustration found its way to my throat.“No,” I said quickly, shaking my head like I could toss the very thought out of the room “It’s not” I repeated..I saw her lean forward slightly, instinctively, like she didn’t want to miss a word. And that almost made

(Natalie's POV)My feet could not stand on one spot.Back and forth, I paced the length of my room, i was trying to be reasonable. But my face…God, my face was telling on me.There was a quiet fury rising inside in me.My reflection in the mirror caught my eye, and for a moment I just stared at her. “At me” Eyes wide with disbelief, I looked like a kettle seconds before a whistle. My fingers lifted on their own accord and palmed my forehead..All night I hadn’t slept. Not a single wink. I had laid on my bed, tossing from one side to the next and all the while, my heart had been in knots.I had been so worried, so worried about him, about Alexander.About how he was taking all the garbage being spewed online, the media twisting everything into a circus act. The lies had been wild, ruthless. But they weren’t just about me. No, he was actually at the forefront of everything. And because of this, I had not been able to rest knowing what he might’ve been feeling, also knowing

The silence between us stretched even more.It wasn’t the kind of interval that lingered lightly, this one was beginning to grow heavy and awkward, coiling itself around my ears in a way I did not like. I could hear Natalie breathing faintly, the intake of air that spoke volumes, it was making my doubt grow by twice. Then finally, Natalie’s voice returned, almost as if she hadn’t realized the call was still connected. Then it picked up, carrying something…a strange. tone that bore a hint of surprise. Not the innocent kind, but something thinner, calculated… or maybe not. Maybe I was just reading too much into it. But how could I be sure?“I….I don’t even know who that is,” she said. “I’m just…hearing the name now, same as you.”I swallowed, hard. My Adam’s apple bobbed oncel as I forced out my next words, “Swear,”. I began with a voice that scraped low. “Swear on everything you hold dear that you’re just hearing the name… right now.”There was another inhale from Natalie but

(ALEXANDER POV)I kept my eyes fixed on Jordan as I started to rise slowly.“What the hell could be so urgent?” I muttered under my breath, narrowing my eyes as I observed him further, his shoulders were twitching with the kind of tension that didn’t sit well with me.Jordan didn’t speak. He didn’t even have to. His face was saying all that needed to be said. Those tight jaws of his and his nervous eyes was enough to tell me that this wasn’t some sort of scare tactics. He wouldn't even dare try that with me ordinarily.I blinked and started to move past him with a purposeful gait now, as far as I knew, Victor and that dirty stooge of his had nothing….not a shred of truth, not even a damn photo worth being scared of. Their antics had always been smoke and mirrors, bluffing through power plays they could never follow through on.But if that were really the case, then what were the reporters here for? What where they doing at my gate and at this time of the day? What the hell was ac

  • Bound By The CEO's Contract    CHAPTER THIRTY SIX

The morning light filtered in gently through the curtains, I stirred beneath my sheets, blinking as my eyes opened into the calmness of the new day. My hand, still half-asleep, fumbled along the side of the bed as it brushed against my phone, which was still lying face down gainst the mattress. Right where I had dropped it last night before sleeping off.I lay still for a second, breathing in the fresh air.The ceiling above my head was still faintly blurred by the remnant of sleep in my eye, but I wasn’t groggy. Not really. All I felt was this rare stillness, the kind that made me realize I hadn’t tossed or turned during my unconscious state. It was even unbelievable that my sleep had not come with the usual nightmares and that alone was almost unsettling.I stretched out my limbs slowly, the joints of my shoulders and spine cracking with a satisfying pop, letting out a yawn that nearly unhinged my jaw. My chest was steadily rising and falling as I let the quietness settle in

(NATALIE POV)I didn’t stop moving until I was as close to the end of the hallway as possible, my pulse a repeatitive thud against my ribs. The hallway was dim, shadows from the sconces spread across the wooden floors.I moved quickly past the framed portraits, wound tightly around my phone, the vibration still humming against my palm. Finally I slipped into my room, shut the door and leaned against the door for a second, holding the phone to my ear as my eyes dimmed.“Alex.” I whispered. His voice came at once with neither pleasantry nor preamble.“Like I said earlier I know who it was.”I straightened up feeling my breath becoming shallow, the anticipation was making my heart beat faster.Alexander was still speaking,“I had one of my private investigators follow the trail of the man on the screen. That’s how we found out it was Victor Lawson.”I blinked.Victor Lawson? For real the same Victor Lawson?I knew the man.Even before the contract, in my first few months as Alexand

(NATALIE POV)The car had barely stopped before Sophie leaned over with her fingers lightly drumming on the wheel."See you tomorrow Babe"I nodded, reaching for the door handle. "First thing.""And don’t overthink it tonight, Ellie." Her voice was softer now, heavy with a knowing kind of concern.I forced a small smile, pushing the door open. "I won’t."Sophie didn’t look convinced, but she let it go with a small shake of her head. "Alright. Just go inside before your mom decides to send a search party."With a final wave, I stepped out, feeling the caress of the late evening breeze as Sophie started to pull away. The front yard was soon before me, but I wasn’t quite ready to go in just yet.I exhaled slowly, wandering toward the stone bench beneath the large sycamore tree at the far left. On getting there, I lowered myself onto the bench, tilting my head back to stare at the dark sky. Alexander’s voice on the phone about an hour ago was still ringing in my ears, edged with u

  • Bound By The CEO's Contract    CHAPTER THIRTY THREE

(GENERAL POV)The room was very dim, it's walls had shadows stretching ominously along the paneled walls. A haze of smoke coiled through the air, the smoke was coming from a long, polished pipe held between the fingers of the man seated behind the massive desk. One of his fingers had an oversized ring, and it kept tapping against the desk’s surface. The sound was the only thing that filled the silence apart from the occasional creak of the leather chair as the man shifted slightly. Two men in dark suits were standing by him, their expressions unbelievably serious.Their hands folded before them, but their presence alone was a warning. Standing in front of the boss, was a man whose body seemed to shrink with every passing second. The cowering man also wore a suit like the others, but it didn’t fit him as perfectly. His knees were bent slightly, his head lowered, as though he wished the ground would swallow him up.The boss inhaled deeply from his pipe as his dark eyes bored in
