Nicholas' POV

Here she was, asking what I did when she was the reason everything happened. She looked fierce and angry, likely having overheard my conversation with Carlos.

"What did you do, Nicholas?" she snapped. Realizing it was more serious than I had initially thought, I motioned to Carlos to give us some privacy. After he left, I took a few steps toward her.

"You want to know what I did?" I asked, gazing into her eyes which had darkened with anger. "I killed a man. I killed a man because of you, Laura. That's what I did."

Her brows furrowed, and her face flushed red. "How dare you? How dare you take a life and then dare to blame it on me?" she exclaimed.

"Don't ever ask me such a question again! Who the hell do you think you are to question me?" I retorted. How did it all come to this? When did I stoop to such a level, allowing a mere lady to raise her voice at me and dictate what I should or should not do? What insolence! Nicholas, just look at what you've become, I thought.
