If I'm going to be blunt with myself, I need to confess that I don’t know how to feel or act around Maverick.
He's a different breed compared to the other two Quinns that I've had the misfortune of meeting.
A part of me feels like he wouldn’t go out of his way to personally hurt or embarrass me. But because he is a man who lives by strict rules, I sense that he will have a field day making sure I obey the rules he sets out for me to abide by, and he’d take even greater pleasure in disciplining me if I defy those certain rules.
But it's the way he looks at me that confuses me the most… I don't know, I could be reading too much into it.
However, it’s like I’m the only person he sees in a room filled with people which is odd because the only room I remember us being in together was the Fantasy Room, and he was obviously there because he saw that I was in trouble and needed saving.
But then I have to remind myself that he is a Quinn and everything he says and does is already pre-planned and calculated.
My previous experience with a certain Quinn still haunts me to this day. The nightmares riddle my mind with tainted memories that refuse to leave me alone. Searing the memories so deep they have been carved into my soul, bleeding me dry for all eternity.
Martin Quinn - their father is the voice behind my night terrors. It's the same dream every time and I do not know why, his faceless image always makes me feel dirty after I'm able to jostle myself awake.
However, Maverick seems different, though he is a predator, and I am his targeted prey trapped under his lock and key until the very end…
I don't truly fear him.
He does irritate me, but I feel like I can tolerate him more than I am ever willing to admit.
It's no secret that I have signed my soul over to the devil, and willingly offered him to infect my womb with his child — binding us together for eternity.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, Arnica. What have you gone and done, you silly girl?
I purposely ignore his last statement, buttoning his suit jacket to dispel the cold chill pricking my flesh, as I try to ignore the rich scent of him that is rooted in the expensive threads.
It’s intoxicating.
Mouthwatering.
And it wakes up every dormant nerve in my body.
“So, the pamphlet that was delivered to my letterbox days after I was let go from Pulse Energy Ltd, it was you?” I ask softly, trying to piece everything together, my voice being steadier than my racing heart.
“Yes.” He replies with a single word, making it obvious that he is unwilling to entertain me with a proper response.
“Why?” I push further for an explanation, desperate to know why he pursued me.
“Because Matthias still loves you, and I knew you were the only person who could help me to truly hurt and ruin him.” The words spill from his lips like a painful song pulling at the fragile strings of my heart.
“What if I didn’t take the bait for the job at Fusion?”
I mean… I almost didn't. Working in one of the most prestigious clubs without any previous experience in the city was pushing it, even for me, in the direction of desperation.
However, it was obvious that after six interviews and almost being pushed out of the building when my name was called, someone had meant what they said when he told me that he could financially ruin and cripple my future.
Anyone would think that I was the one who repeatedly cheated on him!
Maverick combs his fingers through his slick hair as he sucks on his upper teeth.
“I would have found another way to get to you, Angel. I’m a very resourceful man, and you will quickly learn that the word no just simply isn’t in my vocabulary.”
“That's a pity because the word no has a nice ring to it whenever I'm around you.” I quickly blurt out, wishing I could take the words back.
“We can work on that together.” Maverick retorts without missing a beat as his gaze shifts, meeting the driver's eyes in the rearview mirror with a hint of laughter encasing him.
“Are you always this confident?” I ask, already knowing the answer to my question because it's pretty evident with the facial expressions he is coolly trying to mask from me.
“Me being confident is an understatement, Angel.” He states in a serious tone not to be taken lightly. “The reason why you are sitting in my vehicle, married to me, is because I do my homework and I strike when the time is right—never before.”
“Have you thought about what might happen if I can’t give you a child, Maverick? When I was six years old… I… I…” The words I am trying to get out lodge themselves in my throat, making it difficult to finish what I need to say.
I dip my head, closing my eyes as I draw in a deep breath, hoping it will help calm my raging thoughts and give me the strength I need to carry on.
“I know what happened to you, Arnica and yes… I have thought about it. If you want to get examined, I can arrange for an appointment tomorrow morning. You can go to the hospital, or I can have someone come to the house, the choice is yours.” His voice is soft and if I let my mind slip away for a second, I’d make the dire mistake of thinking that we can make things civilly work between us.
The sound of tyres crunching on gravel fills the small space between us as the SUV gradually comes to a halt. I raise my gaze and peer out the window as we glide through a formidable iron gate, symbolic of a fortress. Soon, a grand mansion emerges, nestled amidst a cluster of towering trees.
“I will think about it, and thanks for the offer.” I finally reply, still staring out the window. “Is this where we will be living?”
“Indeed. This is my empire, Angel, and it now is yours, too.”
“And you live here alone?” I marvel at the thought of living in such a large estate with no one to share it with.
It makes no sense.
“Not entirely, Levi and Saint live here too. They are my right-hand men; my best friends, and it makes sense to have them close to me at all times.”
As the door beside him is opened, he turns his head to look at me, his gaze slowly trails over my face before a large grin breaks out across his handsome face that makes him look like a Greek God.
“Where will I be sleeping?” I ask timidly, hoping he doesn’t expect me to share his bed with him right away.
Maverick steps out of the vehicle and patiently extends his hand, silently inviting me to join him outside. I cautiously move across the seat, disregarding his hand, and independently step out of the vehicle.
I stand confidently next to him, locking eyes with him. A small chuckle escapes from his throat as he grits his teeth, clearly annoyed that I didn't acknowledge his friendly gesture. I raise my foot to move towards the estate, only to be abruptly pulled back, causing me to lose my balance and crash into Mavericks' broad chest.
“There are a few things you will need to learn around here, Angel.” He states sternly, causing my heart to flutter. “When I offer you my hand, you place yours in mine with a fucking smile on your face that would melt hearts in a room filled with dangerous men. Got it?” The tone of his voice emphasizes that he is dead serious.
Speechless, I nod my head with my eyes staring daggers at him.
“Good. Now, you can choose any room you want, Kitten, it doesn’t matter to me because wherever you sleep, I’m sleeping too.” He says as he leans in close to my neck and whispers in my ear. “Our marriage will be treated like a real union.”
I swallow thickly, digesting his words, watching in silence as he pulls away from me, turns to the vehicle behind us and nods his head. The guy who drove me home this morning with dyed white hair and light green eyes steps out from the driver’s side and approaches us while buttoning up his suit jacket.
“Don’t let her out of your sight until I return,” Maverick speaks to him in an authoritative tone before he returns his attention to me.
“Where are you going?” I ask with irritation lacing my voice.
I can’t believe he has brought me to his mansion against my will and is leaving me here with one of his men.
“Why? Are you going to tell me that you'll miss me, kitten?” His brows shoot up as he rubs the pads of his fingers along his chiselled jawline, his eyes slightly narrowing with anticipation.
I snort, "No… I'm just curious to know why you have brought me here when you have plans that don't involve me or you staying in.”
“I have a matter that requires my attention. Levi will be by your side at all times, ready to assist you with any enquiries about locating items, ensuring your safety and keeping you company until my return.”
“So…”
“I’ll find you when I get back, Angel.” He winks at me and then gets back inside the SUV, just… Leaving me here.
I turn and look at Levi, “I need you to lead me to the room that has the largest tub.” I sigh, patiently waiting for him to lead the way.
I step outside of the SUV, rubbing the back of my nape as I tilt my head and stare up at my father's mansion. My brow darkens into a scowl as I continue to glare at the looming stone structure. Mine is bigger... A lot bigger. It may seem unorthodox to express such a sentiment, but it is undeniably true and I take great pride in my current position. I have achieved success through my own efforts, without relying on others for opportunities. My father on the other hand was given his seat at the head of the Elite Family table because he is the eldest son. The Elite table is made up of five crime lords with powerful names you dare not whisper out loud. It gives you the whole... You speak of the Devil and he shall appear vibes. Exhaling deeply as if I can rid myself of the stress that consumes me, I look at Dan my driver who is standing next to me in silence. “Keep the engine running. It looks like Father has sent his soldiers on a wild goose chase to keep this meeting a secret.”
Arnica Savage isn't just Matthias's ex. She is also a Lorenzo, the abandoned daughter of the bastard Lorenzo standing before me. And I know it is my father's voice that has haunted her nightmares since she was just six years old. Her thoughts are consumed by a haunting past. A past that binds us together, leaving her unable to recall the true reason behind my father's prominent role in her nightmares. Arnica, a Lorenzo by blood, poses a significant threat to Tessa's chances of inheriting what remains of Gio's family name.In exchange for the life of my sister, I was presented with the opportunity to take the life of Gios' daughter to keep the peace between us. And due to Tessa's act of treachery, I eagerly jumped at the offer. However, eight months ago when I arrived at Gios' villa to claim what I was owed, I was informed that Arnica Savage was the daughter being presented to me. As I heard the name, a sense of familiarity washed over me. Later that night, as I reflected on the d
I step out of the fancy slipper-shaped bath, wrapping a heated cotton towel around my body, and I move to stand in front of the vanity mirror. Great, my eyes are all bloodshot from the tears I spilled while I failed to relax in the tub. I don't want to be here, but it seems I'm the one who made my bed, and now I have to lay in it. For the love of God, my memory of last night's events is still groggy. I have managed to recall that I bumped into Maverick after I farewelled Kenneth at Fusion. I was supposed to meet my Tinder date at the new fancy Greek restaurant that just had its grand opening last week. It is why I was wearing a dress and heels. But I got cold feet after I stopped at the club to have a quick drink to help loosen my nerves, and Kenneth started yapping about how gorgeous I looked. And that my date would be a fool to not strip me down and have his wicked way with me on the side of the building that has no camera or lights. My hand had gone straight to my stomach a
For crying out loud, what has gotten into me?Touching Arnica is setting my soul ablaze, and the way my heart is pounding loudly in my ears is forming butterflies in the pit of my stomach. A weird tingling sensation is touching every inch of my flesh and I don’t ever want it to stop.I know I am overreacting about her and Levi. I just... can't help it. I'm jealous; deliriously envious, and I've never felt this way about anyone or anything in the twenty-eight years of my existence. And it hits differently with her. If I thought I was head over heels in love with Tessa, my gods, was I wrong? Because she never made me feel like this… not even close.“I swear to the Gods, Maverick, I will make your life a living hell if you don't release me.” My beautiful wife sneers with turmoil and annoyance gleaming in her almond-shaped eyes. Making her look more gorgeous than ever.“Is that a promise, kitten?” I ask hoarsely, feeling my cock harden beneath my slacks, and I pull her body flush aga
Did he truly just say that he was only mine to hate? What a douche.I avert my gaze from Maverick, determined not to let him catch me being fixated on his ass as he exits the room. I then proceed to tidy up the mess in the kitchen and I can still feel a tingling sensation on the spot where he kissed my forehead.I despise the sensation of his touch as if my body is on the verge of liquefying under his grasp. Despite his murderous nature and the likely sinister origins of this house, there is an undeniable allure that surrounds him and the dark history of this place. It’s most likely built and furnished from blood money.Knowing this and being around him, I can’t deny that I feel drawn to him like a moth to a flame – a moth that gets off on being burnt. It shouldn’t surprise me that he is a killer. I mean... Matthias used to tell me stories of the devastation Maverick was capable of leaving behind in his wake. And a large part of me at the time was hoping that Matthias was exaggerat
I fiercely jump off the stairs, closely tailing Levi as he forcefully fights his way through Gios' mob. Levi swiftly brings one of them down, while I quickly notice Roberto approaching me. I lift my firearm high, urgently reposition myself, and strike the back of his head. I watch the scene unfold in slow motion as he tumbles to the ground, landing face-first on the bottom step. Blood slowly seeps from his skull, pooling around his head. Abruptly, I find myself ensnared in a tight embrace, feeling the air being pressed out of my lungs. Lowering my head, I forcefully thrust it backwards, striking my opponent squarely in the face. The impact jolts him, causing him to lose his hold and stumble backwards a couple of steps. I aim my gun at his shoe, pulling the trigger and he roars with agony. Without hesitation, I pivot and deliver a decisive shot to his head, killing him instantly. Scanning the foyer covered in debris and timber, I search for Levi. The sound of him growling and s
***Night terror***I could remember the panic in my mother's voice as she screamed for someone to leave us alone as she planted her foot down on the accelerator, causing the car to lurch forward. She turned her head to look at me in the backseat.“Put your belt on, baby.” Her voice was filled with terror, matching the expression across her face as she averted her gaze to the back window. Her mascara-smeared eyes grew wide as a small cry departed her lips, and she quickly returned her gaze to the road. As I pulled my belt over my chest with trembling hands, it took me a few attempts to click the belt in place. My mother was scared and initially, I was scared too. I don't remember why, but I have a feeling she was running away from something — someone.“Mommy…” I cried out when the car swerved across the road, the tyres screeched as my mother tried to gain control of the car once again. Moments later, the interior of the car is flooded with a brilliant, dazzling light, accompanied by
I can sense the torrent of torment that is weighing Arnica down. Anchoring her mind in an abyss of destruction, plucking away at her already fragile heart and making it almost too difficult to open up and trust anyone. And that’s all because of me, Matthias and my father. The Quinns as she prefers to dub us.The guilt and shame of being her tormentor all these years is eating me up, and I want nothing more than to tell her the truth.Because we all know that secrets are weapons and weapons kill.I crave to explain to her what happened that fatal night, with the hopes that she can eventually learn to forgive me and find some solace in knowing that I was forced to etch my sins into her innocent soul. Going to church and confessing my depravities hasn’t changed anything. For most of my life, I believed Arnica was my first kill. Her agonising screams that night tore through me, embedding the gut-wrenching sound in the back of my mind—bleeds my ears dry each time I am reminded of what I
I adjust the fabric of my turtleneck, pulling it higher over my throat to conceal the red mark along my neckline. Even though it's like ninety degrees outside, a cold chill creeps through my veins, leaving me on edge. What happened this morning between me and Maverick is a little hazy because I refuse to dwell on what transpired between us. The way he looks at me when he knows something is up… When he tells me that everything is going to be okay because he will never let anyone hurt me…I believe the things my mother used to mutter to herself. 'If you can’t stop thinking about someone. It’s because they can’t stop thinking about you too.'I should never have mentioned his mother and sister. It was a low blow, and if anyone knows what it is like to lose someone you love and admire dearly. It's me. But he is experiencing it tenfold as he lost two important people at once, and I refuse to try to imagine how that would feel. Returning my attention to my Aunt Joy. I turn my body sideways
“Maverick. Did you hear what I just said?” Removing my hand from my cheek that still stings from Arnicas’ palm, I raise my gaze to meet Levis’. “Yes, I heard you. Was I listening? Well, no.” I state boldly, rising from behind my desk. Combing my fingers through my hair, I head towards the door. “What the fucks gotten into you this morning?” Levi hisses, hot on my heels. “If this is about last night. I’ve apologized once for how I handled things with Mrs. Quinn. You won’t get a second one out of me.”I stop dead in my tracks and spin around to face him with my nostrils flaring. “I fucking put my hands on her.” Raising my head, I meet his stunned, encased irises. “She mentioned my mother and Scarlett.”Exhaling and shaking his head, “shit.” Levi says. “When you say that you put your hands on her-”“I tried to fucking strangle the life out of her. A red haze took over me and I was consumed with rage. The look in her eyes…” My voice trails off as I swallow thickly and try to elevate my
A moan filled with pleasure escapes with my breath as my hands ball the bedsheets at my sides. Still groggy from my sleep, I arch my back as the sensation of my clit being licked and then sucked on, causes my body to shudder. Pressure builds in the pit of my stomach as my clit is flicked and a finger slides between the slick folds of my sex. “Shit…” I cry out, squeezing my eyes shut when another two fingers stretch me, thrusting deep inside me. “Come for me, Angel,” a hoarse voice growls with desperation. “Come all over my face and scream for me.”Overwhelmed by desire, I can't help but lose control. I gently grasp Mavericks' hair beneath the sheets, keeping him in place as I indulge in the intense pleasure. Ecstasy courses through my heated body, igniting a whirlwind of tremors as waves of pleasure consume me. Maverick delicately teases my sensitive clit with a flick of his tongue, and he gradually eases the pace of his tortuous fingers within me, extending the duration of my clima
After Maverick leaves the library, I pause for a moment, touring the books before making my way out and heading towards the flight of stairs to find the powder room. I could have opted for the one on the main floor, but I prefer not to engage in conversations with unfamiliar people in particular, considering that I currently have semen running down the insides of my legs. I walk down the hallway, noticing the different color doors and handles.“Mahogany door with a brass knob.” The barmans' words enter my mind at full force, trying to compel me to seek out Mavericks’ office.I swiftly pivot on my heel and head back towards the staircase. I'll just wait until we get back home to freshen up. This seems like a risky and ill-advised plan, especially if I were to be discovered. The last thing I desire is to betray Mavericks' trust and have the other members of the Elite family suspect me of being a spy.“Make it happen, Matthias, or I will personally see to it that you and Contessa lose ev
I fold over Arnica, my hair falls forward, and it tickles her heaving chest, matching my heaving lungs. “Gods, you are fucking perfect.”She runs her fingers through my damp hair, giggling. “I think a certain someone has had a little too much to drink.”I nuzzle her breasts, liking how soft they feel against my face. “You do realise that this changes everything between us, don’t you?” I pull her up as I get to my feet, my cock still buried deep inside her, until the soles of her heels touch the hardwood floor, and she is standing in front of me. “I will have your things moved back into my room before we return home.”She pulls her lower lip between her teeth and nervously starts to chew on it as her gaze shifts to the other side of the library. Her good mood disappears, and I can’t help think it’s because I’ve said something I shouldn’t have. I place the pad of my thumb on her chin, bending at the knees so we are face to face, and her gaze lifts to mine.“Tell me what is going on in t
“I’m losing my mind over you. I can’t work, I can’t sleep or think straight. My body aches for you, but I won’t force you to do anything that you don’t want to do. Give me a safe word, Angel.”Tears run freely down my face, splashing on the upper swelling of my breasts, and Maverick licks at them. How will I recover if I let him make love to me? How will I survive if I don’t let him?“I want you, Maverick,” I whisper. “The need to have you fill me is consuming and overwhelming at the same time. You have the power to hurt me. To destroy what little of me that isn’t damaged.”His gaze flits with confusion and a promise that he will never do wrong by me the same way his brother did. “Don’t compare me to my brother, Angel. This is about us. What was meant to be. You were mine from the moment I laid eyes on you. Once won’t ever be enough. You’ll crave it. Need it. Dream about it. No one will ever satisfy your body again. Don’t let your past push me away.”I nod my head, “I won’t,” I whispe
I make my way to the bar, placing my wine glass on top of the varnished counter, lifting my hand as I grab the barman’s attention.“Another refill?” He asks me, holding up a bottle of flat white wine.I don’t know what I’m currently drinking because I never bothered to ask him what he is serving. As long as it loosens the tension in my body, I'll drink it.Pushing my glass forward, “that would be lovely, thank you.” I say with a forced smile, not wanting to be here. When Maverick had picked me up from my aunts earlier this evening, he reluctantly informed me that we had to attend a prestigious event to pay tribute to one of the influential Don's he is associated with at the Elite Family estate. This venue is perfect for exclusive events, where a strict code of conduct ensures a peaceful atmosphere for all attendees. This particular Don, whose name I didn’t bother to remember, is being recognized for his outstanding achievement in leading a big project aimed at providing a safe and eng
I walk out of Mavericks' office, ignoring the dozen sets of eyes staring at me as I slide my large shades over the bridge of my nose with a little bounce to my steps. My body feels lighter, and I still feel raw. Sensitive. Full. And truly well fingered. Two of Mavericks men cast shadows behind me as they follow my movements. I wonder if they can see the slight tremble in my legs with every step I execute. Not that it matters. One of them rushes forward to hold one of the double doors wide open for me. A stream of sunlight hits my face all for a second before it is eclipsed by a large shadow that instantly has killed my mood, and I try to step around the obstacle blocking my way, but I fail. “Arnica, fancy seeing you here.” A deep voice murmurs with an underlay of surprise and lack of conviction. “Why wouldn't I come here, Matthias?” I say in a placid tone to cover the irritation in my voice. Just by being in his presence, he has killed my mood, and after all these years, seein
“Now's not the time or place, Angel. Besides, only good girls get what they ask for, and you showing up here unguarded was a seriously naughty thing to do.” She blinks at me, lowering her skirt, and she stands up. “Well, I'm sorry you feel that way, and you won't hear me begging you, Maverick.” I watch as she walks to the door and sticks her head out, looking left then right. “See you at dinner,” she calls over her shoulder. “Oh, Thomas…” She calls out to one of my barmen in a singsong voice that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. “Why are you calling for Thomas?” How the fuck does she know who Thomas is too?“I need a problem solver,” she says and turns to look at Thomas when he reaches her. “Hey, Thomas. Do you consider yourself to be a problem solver?" Thomas’s gaze nervously darts between me and Arnica before he finally decides to answer. “Well… I've always been told that I have a knack for solving the impossible, most times.”I bite down on my molars, silently
