“I need you, Julie.” Den said with his voice a soft whisper sounding more like a plea. “We need you.” He said.

“And what do you need from me, Den?” she asked with her voice hard. “Because I’m not coming back for some grand gesture of professional appreciation.” She said.

He leaned forward with his eyes alert. “I need you, Julie.” he repeated with his voice low and firm. “I need your gift, your vision and your... your...”

He faltered with his eyes fluttering away from hers. He had become used to having his way, to being able to charm his way out of any situation. This was different. This was Julie, and she was not swayed by his charm at least not presently.

“Your what?” Julie asked with her voice sharp.

He took a deep breath. “I need you, Julie.” he said with his voice a low plea. “I need you to be a part of this and to help me make something, something great.” He said.

Julie felt a swell of wrath rise within her. She could not understand him or his asseveration and his desp
