Author’s POV
“Ma’am please wake up”
Kayla’s ears picked up a vague sound and she opened her eyes with difficulty. Her gaze instantly fell on a servant girl who held a plate of food.
“Please get up and have this food” the girl suggested in a humble tone. The fact that the girl’s hands were shaking didn’t go unnoticed by her.
“I don’t want it” Kayla murmured and turned her head away because the last thing she wanted was food. By the somber color of the skies, it was clear to her that night was approaching and her stomach was rumbling like anything. But she wouldn’t eat from these men. She would rather starve herself to death.
That’s when the girl set the food on a nearby table and crouched on the floor next to Kayla, startling the soul out of her.
Before Kayla could speak, the girl joined her hands and began crying.
“P-please eat... or else the masters will hurt me today. I got punished yesterday for fainting while I was at work. I don’t have the strength to endure anything today. The masters were really rough with me yesterday...” the girl sputtered and brought a hand to clamp on her mouth so that no sound escaped.
Kayla felt her own eyes tear up.
“I’m so sorry” she mumbled and hugged the girl.
“I’ll eat the food, okay?” Kayla leaned back and pushing herself to her feet, she offered her hand to the poor girl.
For the girl’s sake Kayla picked up food and began eating. The food was delicious but after a few bites of the bread, something clicked on the back of her mind and she paused her eyes on the girl.
“Is the food adulterated?” Kayla found herself asking.
The girl’s eyes went wild and she shook her head, “N-no ma’am. I prepared it myself and there is nothing wrong with it”
“I trust you” Kayla spared a broken smile and proceeded to finish the food.
When the plate became empty, the girl came to take it away but Kayla couldn’t bite her tongue and asked a question.
“Have you ever tried to escape this place?”
The second the question ended, the girls’ face blanched in fear and she placed a finger on her lip and jutted her chin towards the door.
“The masters will hear. They always hear. You must never think about leaving. Our masters are gods and we were born to serve them”
The girl narrated like a well-trained parrot and retreated from the room, leaving Kayla speechless. Now she knew that no help would come from the girls who were trapped here.

Alexi’s POV
“This is the plan” I flicked my wrist and a new slide appeared on the projector screen.
Zack fixed his glasses and scrunched his nose as he soaked in all the details that I have mentioned in the blueprint.
“That’s not a plan, it’s a suicide mission” he shot me a disapproving look. It’s a weird coincidence but he resembles my dad whenever he does that.
“It’s how we do it in the Mafia” I gave a half shoulder shrug and waited for him to get his shit together because I was crazy enough to execute the goddamn plan all by myself.
“Well since you seem pretty confident about it, why don’t you explain it to me in detail?” Zack gestured towards the screen, challenging me.
I smirked before raising from the chair and carrying my feet closer to the splendid blueprint projected on the white wall.
I raised my hand and pointed a finger at a blue dot, “That’s me”
Then I moved my index finger to a green dot, “That’s you”
“I will get inside Bradford’s property through the secret tunnel beneath the house and you will be positioned outside in a vehicle which will be closer to the compound. You will work magic and swap the camera footage while I climb into the house and attach a detonator, a motion sensor and a mini camera in as many rooms as possible. The motion sensor and the cameras are to make sure that no girls are present near the detonator when I blast them. The explosions aren’t lethal, but it will alert Bradford and he will be forced to move the girls to another location. And while that happens, we will ambush them and save all the innocent victims of his slave trade” I finished and beamed proudly. I could very much feel the adrenaline rush of pre-victory celebration.
“Okay, smarty pants.... but what is going to happen if something goes wrong? How do you intent to escape?” Zack asked with seriousness.
I couldn’t blame him for being too uptight about safety because there is always a chance that things could go downhill in the blink of an eye. But luckily, I have that covered.
“I have placed four snipers at a safe distance and if anything goes wrong, they will cover for me until I get out” I replied and showed him where the snipers would go.
But he still looked unconvinced and I had to ask, “Now what?”
Zack didn’t say anything but began biting his nails, his eyes drifting between the screen and my face. I know he was thinking miles per hour, calculation every possible error and their solutions. And then when he stopped chewing on his nails and settled his gaze on me, I knew he had an answer.
“So, what do you think? Can we pull it off?” I walked to the glass table and leaned my hands on it, excitement curving my lips to a smile.
“That... I... uh.... Okay! Fuck yes, we can pull it off” He groaned and dragged a hand across his face.
I chuckled and shook my head. I was a little worried that he might say no and now that its cleared, I can focus on training myself harder for a smooth execution of the plan that will happen two weeks later.
When the meeting was over Zack left but before I could take down the plan, Michael came in. His hawk eyes scanned it and then he raised an eyebrow at me.
“It’s nothing important” I said and switched off the projector. From the stack of books on the table top I picked up a magazine that I haven’t read in ages. I slumped on my chair and flipped through its glossed pages while completely ignoring his existence.
“It didn’t look like nothing important” Michael stated as he hogged my office chair. His detective skills were on point and so I decided to downplay it.
“It’s just a small attack that I might launch on one of the shipment agencies that has failed to track my package” I explained with utmost pseudo honest expression and diverted my gaze to the book at hand.
“Alexi, I know you are lying” I stiffened for a second and lifted my eyes to him. If looks could kill then I’d be six feet deep under earth by now because he had so much fire in his eyes.
Until Stella got married, it was Michael and I who used to go on rampages to conquer the enemy territories. But everything changed the moment he vowed to be her husband. I purposefully kept him out of violence because one scratch on his body can bring so much pain to my sister and I didn’t want to be the one to cause it.
“Trust me Michael, the less you know, the better” I tried to make him understand. But he was never the one to take no for an answer. He locked his eyes with mine and I kept the stare down going until he clenched his jaw and looked away with an expression of hurt.
I almost felt guilty but then I recalled an event that happened two years ago. I and Michael were standing over a balcony with a cup of coffee in our hands. The caffeine was helping us get rid of the hangover from partying the previous night. The party was for closing a contract.
I wanted to give him an update on our next business trip but when I craned my neck to look at him, he had this goofy grin plastered across his face.
“What is that smile for, brother?” I asked and chuckled.
He was appalled for a second but then he regained his stance and turned to me with a smile.
“She did that hair tuck thing the last time we met” Michael replied.
“What hair tuck thing?” I was confused.
Michael demonstrated what he said by pushing his own hair behind his ear, leaving me clueless than ever.
“I’ve heard that girls move their hair behind their ear unconsciously when they see the guy they like. The girl I told you about did it when I smiled her way and it means she likes me back” he explained and zoned out like he was recollecting that magical moment with her.
I groaned in exasperation and tightened my grip on the railing. “When are you planning to introduce this mystery girl to me?”
He never kept secrets from me and the fact that he was not willing to show me the women who stole his heart was eating at my patience.
He mulled over my question as he took a sip from his cup. “It will take a while. Although, I’m not sure you would approve of her”
I didn’t miss the dark undertone in his statement. Was he worried that I would judge him for his choice?
“I’m not that shallow Mike” I reminded him, my voice heavy with emotions.
“I know” he offered me a sly smile before walking away. I downed the rest of my coffee and spent my entire day on figuring out whom the girl was.
It took more than a year for me to learn that the ‘mystery girl’ was none other than my little sister. The pain I felt that day doesn’t come close to the pain he was feeling at this moment. He kept me in the dark for too long and I was only returning the favor by purposefully not including him in my activities, but more than that I was concerned for Stella’s happiness.
Now her happiness meant Michael being safe and doing it was my first priority. But he didn’t need to know that.
I feel sad for Kayla :( The real action starts from the next chapter onwards. So buckle up ;)
Kayla’s POV Mom was paying for the groceries as I waited with three shopping bags filled with stuff. She took back her card, grabbed the bill and politely thanked the cashier before taking a bag from me. She was about to take another one, but I insisted on keeping it. “You will always be my strong girl” Mom smiled and affectionately stroked my blond hair that was darker than hers. “Let’s go mom. Can’t wait to start our movie night” I chirped and rushed out of the store. Midway to the parking lot I realized that mom was far behind so I decreased my speed until she caught up with me. The golden embers of dusk scattered across the sky complimented my mom’s elegant features as she moved alongside of me. My mom was the most beautiful woman I have seen in my life and she was beautiful inside out. Today we are going to have movie night and guess what the best part is? We will be making our own snacks! Well, she will be making them and I will assist her in the kitchen. The energy and the
Alexi’s POV I was not a morning person. I hated the overly romanticized idea of waking up to the bright rays of sun as they fall on your closed eye lids. Do you know how uncomfortable that is? So, you can imagine how most of my morning would go. I will be cranky most of the time and surviving only on coffee. I was most definitely a night owl but the nature of my business demands at least a quarter of my night life and to have an elaborate dinner is like a distant dream for me. The only time I get to relax and have food is in the noon. That day I was devouring the club sandwich that my chef Paul made, specially customized to my liking. Normally I didn’t care for the taste of food, but that day I was particularly impressed by the preparation. Maybe I should give him a raise. Biting into one of the pieces, I filled my mind with the good things that were happening in my life. I had a successful empire, and every day I thrive to keep alive my father’s legacy. The sum of my achievem
Kayla’s POV Swiping the sweat off my forehead with the back of my hand, I scrubbed the huge kitchen ware and then rinsed it under water. I drained the excess water from the tumbler and kept it aside before reaching for the next dirty utensil, which happened to be a frying pan. “Hey you, Blondy” a male voice snapped. I trembled, despite knowing that I did nothing wrong. A man I’ve never seen before came up to my side and leaned in to inspect the way I have cleaned. “Work your hands faster” he ordered. “Y-yes master” I replied meekly, just the way Nyra had taught me. He shot me a disgruntled look and walked away, finally allowing me to draw a normal breath. It has been more than ten days and yet nobody came searching for me. At times I imagined that my father would find a way to bail me out by assembling the money he owed Bradford. But as days progressed with me receiving no news regarding him, I’ve lost hope. I have tried to be strong in ways I could because the last thing I wa
Kayla’s POV The only window in the room was opened and through the closely wielded metal bars moonlight spilled into the darkroom. I perched on the bed with my back leaned against the metal headboard, my chin resting on my folded knees as I absently fixed my gaze on the opposite wall. My mind was jumbled, over brimmed with the brief interaction I had with Nyra when she bought food to me an hour ago. There was something different about her. She acted natural when she handed me the food, and when I enquired about the incident that happened in the kitchen, she told me that she didn’t have the slightest clue to what I was talking about. I explained how Bruce choked me and that I saw her at the doorway. She instantly denied it by saying that I must have been hallucinating and if she had been there for real, she would have done something to help me. I believed her plausible explanation...until she excused herself with a forced smile. And before I could ask her if anything was wrong,
*Trigger Warning - Mention of ra*pe* Kayla's POV “What are you saying?” I gaped at her, not believing my ears. “You heard me, Kayla. It was all an act I had to put up for you. And do you know why? It’s because Bruce asked me to take good care of you” Wait…. Bruce asked her to be nice to me? “What irked me the most was how he looked at you every time. I thought he would like me more if I treated you well. But nuh-uh. He was doting on you all along”. Nyra’s voice raised a few notches as her nails pressed further into my pale skin. She was taking her anger out on me and that too on something I didn’t do. “Why do you want Bruce to like you? He’s a monster!” I countered, praying that she understands the real face of him. “He is not that bad. To me he’s the best and the most perfect master ever. He took me in from the streets and gave me everything and in return all I had to do was serve his needs. All these years he only had one slave and that was Me”. My eyes instantly flew to
I hummed a jolly tune while turning the steering wheel to the left, leading the car to a secluded location. The time was close to midnight and it provided the perfect backdrop for me to carry out the plan. “You sure you wanna do this?” Zack asked for the umpteenth time since we started the journey. He has been sweating bullets the moment we got into the car that I’m currently parking near a cemetery that has the tunnel opening which leads to Bradford’s mansion. “I’m fucking sure that I’m doing this and for God’s sake stop biting your nails” I drawled and turn to Zack who is squirming in the passenger seat. “I can’t help it OK? I’m freaking out man!!! I’ve never done this ‘on field’ thing before” He exasperated but thankfully stop chewing on his fingers. “You’ll be fine” I shook my head and reached under the seat to grab the box which had accessories and weapons. Placing it on my lap, I opened the box and took things one by one and strapped them on the belts looped around my middl
It was a girl – A blonde to be precise. She laid on the mattress like a broken angel with her hands chained to the bedpost above her head, and the metal made noise whenever she stirred. She had a bandage on her forehead, which I assumed to be a not so fatal wound. There was a cut on her lips too. I shouldn’t be affected by it at all, knowing that this was Black Skull, but something flickered inside me. A feeling I have rarely experienced before. Possessiveness. A sense of fierce possessiveness gripped my chest as my eyes feasted on her moonlit figure. She had all the feminine features that could bring any man to his knees or to her feet. Along with the strange urge to protect her, I also felt helpless. I desperately wanted to save her, but what could I do to get her out of here? The answer was simple. Nothing. If I help her now then I would be risking both of our lives and I didn’t want that. I didn’t want her to get caught in the middle of a crossfire because I found he
ALEXI With a snarl of displeasure, I launched myself at him. He appeared to be appalled for a moment when I grabbed a fistful of his shirt and slammed him against the wall. “Why don’t you do the world a favor and shoot yourself?” I roared at his face. Unlike others who pee their pants when they witness the enraged version of me, he didn’t flinch. He calmly circled his fingers around my wrists and pulled them away, freeing his clothes from my hold. “Calm down for a second” Michael said flatly and smoothed down the cringles that I had just created on his pristine white shirt. “Calm down?! Why the fuck should I calm down? You knew how much I hate talking about relationships, then why would you even mention the girl? What kind of friend are you?” I snapped, feeling smoke radiating from my ears. I was so angry that if I hadn’t remembered that he was once my best friend, he would have already had at least three broken bones in his body. “You know what Alexi? You deserved it” Micha
I spent the rest of the day exploring the mansion with Stella who eagerly volunteered to be my tour guide. The first thing I asked her was the whereabouts of his office. She took me there but since it was empty we continued with the exploration. Our bond deepened as I shared my life’s story with her, including the things I endured when I was at Bradford’s.However, I purposefully left out the part where I ran from her brother. I didn’t want her to think that I harboured negative feelings for her family.“We have the most beautiful garden in the world.” Stella said, smiling ear to ear as she descended effortlessly through the steps and into the plush green of the garden’s moss laid ground. The garden was straight out of a fairy tale. It was unusually big, uniquely build and calming sight for the sore eyes.“Did you design this?” I asked, following her into an arch of orchids.“Yes, but most of the credits goes to Mikey” she lauded her husband. Then she smiled, lifting her long wavy skir
MIKAYLAAs I waited with baited breath a velvet voice purred in my ear,“You smell just like me, Tesoro”With a gasp I swiftly spun on the balls of my feet and lost balance. I tripped backwards but before I fell back a pair of hands looped around my waist, steadying me. My hands instantly flew to his toned chest for support. His ashened orbs bore into mine causing my heat to flutter violently. We were standing so close that I could see the dark grey freckles radiating from his pupils.Earlier when I was moping the floor on my knees in search of his key, I made a mistake of side-eyeing him and caught a glimpse of the bulge in his pants. I acted like I never saw it because I was worried that he might ask me to do something about it.I wasn’t scared of intimacy but being around him was like walking on eggshells. His imposing demeanour affected me in ways I could not control.I was getting lightheaded from the proximity when he let go of me. Miraculously my knees held it together and I rem
MIKAYLAHe left immediately after the episode. After making me crawl around like a toddler to find that stupid key and humiliating me, he departed without a word about what he intended to do with me. I was hoping to ask him for help to find my father but I doubted if he would ever allow me to even step out of his cage. When I tried a bold escape a few moments ago, I should have stopped upon realizing that none of the guards moved a muscle to stop me. They were chilling so their boss could come and swoop me up like an eagle, which was more embarrassing than I would like to admit.I rose from the carpet and nested on the bed, unsure of what to do next... until my stomach reminded me. I forgot about my hunger while he was here. What was I supposed to do? Should I sleep? Should I go down to the kitchen I search of food? Or should I go find Stella?Yup. That sounded good.I tip-toed to the door, opened it to peek outside to check if Alexi was still around. He wasn’t.I closed the door behin
ALEXIIf I was making her uncomfortable, she made no effort to hide it. The moment I occupied a spot next to her on the bed, she began scooting away. I rolled my eyes at her ridiculous act. It was not like I would eat her alive.Once she was at a ‘safe’ distance, Kayla peeked up at me from under her long lashes, as though she expected me to pounce on her any moment now.“Tell me how you ended up at Bradford’s place” I asked, ignoring the invisible wall she had erected between us. I wanted her to be comfortable with me but I didn’t know how to achieve it. She blew the only chance I gave her. But the fact that she could even assume that she would be able to escape from here on nothing but bare feet was pretty stupid in the first place.“Answer me if you want to be free; Or else we will stay locked for a week” I threatened when she remained unresponsive. Her face paled at my words.Of course I was kidding, but I knew she would take it seriously.“I-I’ll answer” came her instant reply. As
ALEXI“What are you hiding?” I narrowed my eyes at her.She blinked rapidly, caught off guard. She was playing innocent. Too bad I’m not going to fall for it.“You’re planning something in that pretty little head of yours, aren’t you?” my voice came out icy.“I’m...I’m not-” she blurted out ‘sincerely’ but the next second she flung the key right across the room. It crashed on the wall at the farthest end and dropped to the floor. Before I could guess her next move, Mikayla grabbed a pillow from the collection and chucked them at me one by one. The first one took me by surprise and smacked me square in the face but I was able to deflect the next two.“What is the matter with you?” I hollered, my tone deadly. Paying no heed to me, the girl jumped off the bed and ran straight for the door. She was escaping, not aware of the death traps that lurked on the other side. If she tries to do anything smart, my men would slaughter her even before she could lift her tongue to explain herself.“You
ALEXIHer demeanor changed quickly as she mindlessly sat up in bed. While she checked out the handcuff that dangled from my fingers, her eyes welled up with tears and spilled over her cheeks. It was just a piece of metal. What was she being so dramatic about?“Y-you are going to tie me up and t-torture the answer out of me?” her chin wobbled as she choked out.Woah! Where did she get that logic from?“No” I replied “I want you to tie me up”A shadow of confusion fell on her face, her ruby lips parting in an adorable way.“Y-You want m-me to tie you up?” she gaped in disbelief, pointing a finger at me and then back at her.“Yes” I admitted.“Umm...” she chewed her bottom lip nervously, unable to find words.“B-but why?” she implored a second later, summoning some courage.“You are scared that I might hurt you, and to reassure you that I’m not going to do that, I’ll remain in handcuffs while you answer my questions” I explained nonchalantly.Honestly, I did not care being tied up at all,
KAYLAHis beasty hands clasped around my ankles like shackles before he tugged them with brutal force.A squeal of surprise burst from my chapped lips as I landed on my back, my head missing the headboard by an inch.“No! *hiccup* d-don’t...” I kept on thrashing as my body was dragged down the mattress.“Shut Up” he growled, wrestling to keep me steady. When he found that I was not going to give up, he released my legs and crawled on top of me.“N-No...” panic seized my lungs when I saw the sheer size of the man up close. The predatory glare of his eyes would kill me before he did.I shook my head and pleaded with my tears when he confiscated my delicate arms that were battering on his broad chest.“Stop Moving” words wrapped in warning vibrated through the length of my body like thunder, rendering me immobile.Holding my gaze captive he began “I’m just trying to hel-”*SMACK*He stopped abruptly at the sound of a door burst open.“Alexi! What on Earth are you doing?” An unmistakably a
ALEXISomewhere along the ride I took off my coat and covered her. She was so tiny that the cloth consumed her body up till her knees. Though there was enough space in the car for her to lay down, I chose to keep her in my arms.I was still in disbelief that I got the girl. Finally, she was all mine. Her unnaturally beautiful caramel eyes got me thinking if she was even real. How can a girl be so alluring and eloquent all at the same time?I had a feeling that I would become a better poet than Shakespeare if I were to describe her beauty. Though her body belonged to me, her heart was still out of my reach. But I was willing to turn the world upside down to catch a glimpse of her smile that could unravel a thousand emotions in my heart. She was like a seductive siren beckoning me closer only to disappear, leaving me all alone and mad, unable to figure out where she went. I haven’t seen her smile yet but I had time. I would keep her locked in my mansion and give her everything she desire
