Dale and Wilson once again continued their journey. They came across many more villages and small towns. These towns had flying vehicles, large towers and buildings, were very populated and the hierarchy was apparent over there. Wilson marveled at the sight of these vehicles and buildings. Dale sniggered.
“Wait till you get to the city of your dreams! This is nothing compared to that.” He said as he heard Wilson praising the beauty of these towns.A month after they started their journey, they entered a city that made the previous towns they had seen look like toddler towns. It was filled with the characteristic hustle and bustle of a city life, even at night. There were guards everywhere. Cars, carriages, Buses, Communication devices, various types of foods, inns, hotels, bars, people shouting and displaying their wares, some loud music was being played at a corner where some people were gathered watching a man and his three-tailed albino monkey dance. As they moved on in the carriage, Wilson began to see some ugly sides of this city. He saw some young boys being brutally beaten by some adults, two men pounding each others’ faces at a corner while quite a number of people watched on, waving some federation credits(the currency used all around the continent), and shouting excitedly at the fighters. They stopped in front of another inn. “Wait inside, I will be back!” Dale said, taking Wilson into a room in the inn. He ordered some dinner for him and left in a hurry, like he was late for an appointment. Wilson did not think too much about it and ate all his food.He ate and drank everything given to him in minutes and laid down to sleep. He realized that he could not sleep from all the excitement. Afterall, Dale had told him that this city shared boundaries with Forest City. And that it was only a matter of time before they got there. He knew he needed to sleep, so that he could wake up early to train. Dale had told him to keep training in preparation for the tournament in forest city. The tournament was a one day contest in which lots of teenagers of sixteen would participate regardless of where they were from. This contest always began with all the contestants fighting at the same time in a sort of battle royal match. They were disqualified if they raised their white flags which meant that they had given up or were thrown out of the large circle in which they fought. The top twenty would automatically be admitted into the academy. As the academy admitted just fifty people every year, it meant that thirty others who did not reach the top twenty, would be hand-picked based on the judgement of the top officials of the academy. So, the contest did not aim for winning only, but for also impressive performances. Finally, Wilson became sleepy when he heard a scream from behind his window. He stood up with a start and looked outside to see some men bullying a young, beautiful lady. He shook his head as he remembered what Dale told him. “Never pay attention to what is happening in the city! There are lots of people who do a lot of bad things but the second you decide to help their victims, you become a victim too. You will never be the same again. Your dream will become like the stars, bright and unreachable. You will lose your freedom as well and become a slave till you die! I’m sure that is not what you want. So, ignore like they don’t even exist!” He had asked why. “Why? Because they are the ones ruling this city. And they have such connections that would make it impossible to do anything reasonable with your life. Not even if you travel to the other side of the continent.” Dale had told him.So, with that in mind, he completely ignored the lady’s cries for help and went to sleep. His dreams were way too important to be wasted on a person he knew nothing about! Even amidst the lady’s screams, he slept soundly till morning. The next morning, he woke up and saw the lady dead on the street with her head cut off and her guts spilling out from her stomach. He did not even blink as he looked away and took his bath, dressed up and left the inn. Dale was already waiting for him outside and together, they left the vicinity with Dale leading the way. They arrived at a bus station painted in a mixture of various colours and graffiti. Dale bought tickets and together they boarded a big bus that conveyed people to Forest City.Wilson was fascinated by everything he saw, the various types of people with various skin colours. Some looked very dark, black even, like they were brought directly out of fire after spending years in it. Some were sickish yellow, some had reddish skin and some brown. There were those that looked completely normal. There were also dwarves, Extra-tall people, some of the passengers were fat and stocky. Some were ugly, some of average beauty while some others were very attractive. He noticed some people with robot parts or animal arts like they were combined with them. He sat at the very last seat along with Dale and three other passengers. When the bus that conveniently occupied a hundred people was filled up, it shook slightly into a start and slowly maneuvered between other vehicles and sped up as soon as it reached the highways specially erected for flying vehicles.Wilson was beyond excited at the thought of him finally arriving at Forest City and fantasized about him entering the academy as one of the top twenty. His daydream was cut short when Dale spoke up. “You must have seen that dead lady behind your window right? She was one of the most notorious criminals in the city. Her records are the worst in the entire continent. So, you see why I told you not to get involved in these matters no matter how terrible they are? If you had gone to help her and I am sure you must have considered that option, you would be in the same state as she is in right now!” Dale said without looking to check Wilson’s reaction who simply nodded as he thought back to what had happened the other night and this morning. What if he had helped her? He did not want to think about it!The bus stopped a few hours later at another bus stop. “Get down boy! We are finally at Forest city!”It has been two weeks since Wilson got to Forest City. He had not seen Dale throughout those two weeks. Dale got and paid for a room for Wilson in a moderately inn and told him to keep training in preparation for the tournament. Wilson was given enough money to last a month. He bought new clothing to blend in as a commoner in the city.“I will be back in a few weeks before the tournament begins!” He remembered Dale telling him the last time he saw him. He made no friends and did not socialize. He was here with a goal in mind, not for trivial matters like; ‘Hi, nice to meet you….’ and stuff related to all that unnecessary nonsense. Wouldn’t it be better if he spent all that time exercising in order to stay in shape and improving on the few moves he knew? Basically throwing punches, kicks, grapples and tosses and body slams. He had seen a school for martial arts with students his age flooding into the space everyday. He really wanted to
“If you don’t mind my speaking up, I think he might still be alive!” Dale looked up with such speed that his neck nearly snapped. He scrutinized the man who spoke those words. He was standing in front and looking down at them. He was nearly six feet tall, bald and white-bearded. He had a dignified expression and was dressed in white noble clothing. His white robe and beard fluttered in the wind slightly as he looked at the crying Dale and supposedly dead Wilson. When Dale said nothing and looked on in a daze, the old man continued speaking.“I believe he’s still breathing. So, if you let me help right now, he can still be saved. Come on, follow me.”Dale said nothing as his face turned serious and lifted Wilson up in his hands and followed the man. They stopped in front of the closest restaurant to their right before entering.“We are going to use a table, if you don’t mind!” The old man said to the inn owner that stood behind the counter.“No problem!”
Dale and Maxi looked at each other for a long time after Wilson had left. Dale looked at Maxi with an expression that he only showed when he had no idea how to react.“Dale, I know you meant it in a good way, but your words came out COLD. Like midnight, on-the-mountaintop cold. You really hit him hard there with your choice of words. I mean, outrightly telling him to give up his dream? That was too much!” Maxi said while looking at Dale. Dale tried to sound persuasive but his words seemed to have had an adverse effect on the boy’s morale.“What do we do?” Dale was confused. He did not know what to do and could only ask his friend for advice.“Give him some space to gather his thoughts. He’ll come around…..I hope!” Maxi said with a dismissive shrug and went towards the door.“I will be leaving now! Try to have a good sleep! Wilson will definitely come back! He has nowhere else to sleep!” Maxi said as he waved his goodbyes and left the room for his
The thief was scared out of his mind. He had to do something to escape immediately. Death is not a beautiful thing any way. The sword was coming too fast for his already weak body. It was closing in too fast. He desperately ripped apart the rope he was bound with and pulled off his mask.*CLANG*Wilson was shocked. A person had blocked his sword only few inches away from the thief’s neck. He did not see any movements beforehand. Whoever blocked it must be a master swordsman.“Junior master, I will handle it from here!” The master swordsman said to the thief lying on the floor, who was looking dazed. Master? What kind of master goes about stealing and killing? These and many more questions flooded the heads of Wilson and other onlookers.Common sense told Wilson to forget about it and just leave quietly, but he was enraged, too enraged to listen to his senses. He angrily shouted and shifted his sword towards the swordsman. His horizontal la
The execution ground was where notorious criminals caught in the city were usually executed at the end of every month. It was very wide, about the size of three football fields and was located outside the city, just before the forest. Even though it was used basically for killing others, it was also used for large-scale competitions, like the wrestling tournament.Maxi arrived there as soon as the tournament officially began. There were lots of people both in the arena and outside. Maxi had to push his way through to the front of the crowd to check for Wilson. It took him several minutes to get to his destination and he was covered in sweat and food and wine.“This place is tight! And there are so many contestants this year.” Maxi muttered to himself after squeezing his way to the front. He looked around and could barely see any of the contestants’ faces. The match had already gotten intense. Bodies were flying everywhere, skills upon skills w
Wilson struck at her face again and again and again. He punched so much she began to wonder if he had a problem with her face. All she could do was block. Dodging his fists as she realized was near impossible. There was no room for a counter-attack. It was either she continued blocking or she traded a blow for a blow. She was not sure how much of it she could handle. He definitely knew how to pack a punch. A successful strike to her face was sure to disfigure her beautiful facial features. She became even more hesitant about it.Wilson noticed her hesitation. He knew a simple slash from her would mean the end for him. But he also knew that females in general, especially beautiful ones always paid attention to their looks. It was kinda an instinct. So he focused most of his attacks to her face, giving her no choice but to block and continuously retreat. He remembered what his boxing teacher told him back at the village, about swordsmen requiring some space to brandish their swords
Chapter 13- ComatoseWilson was carried into the inn by the mercenaries Maxi hired. The room was arranged and the bed was tidied up faster than expected. The healer friend of Maxi took out his toolkit from under his large sleeves of his robe. He quickly chanted a spell to cleanse the blood off Wilson’s body. He put another low grade pill into his mouth to further reduce his pain. He then inserted his nine needles into specific points on different parts of his body. He chanted some words for a long period of time and placed his palms on Wilson’s forehead. A white blinding light glowed from the point of contact, enveloping Wilson in its entirety and temporarily blinding the mercenaries. Maxi had long closed his eyes. He knew what was going to happen when the chant was finished. He had experienced it a lot. The healer sat on a chair with a pained and exhausted look on his face. He panted as Maxi went to join him after paying the mercenaries for their labor.
Chapter 14- Welcome to the abyss!Wilson ran and ran, closely followed by the policemen led by the swordsman. He passed through the same alleys and corners the thief that killed his uncle had passed. His body soon grew numb and he could feel the effects of sleeping for a month. He was getting tired but persevered, running around the city. Just when he thought that he could as well give up, he noticed that the swordsman was no more behind him. He quickly snuck into a pile of rubbish stacked at a corner. He dug into it and noticed a roughly made tunnel that went as far as the eyes could see. Out of curiosity and fear of his pursuers, he crawled through the tunnel. He crawled for what seemed like hours. The farther he went, the longer the tunnel seemed to stretch. Just when he saw the tunnel coming to an end, he saw that the tunnel split to his right and to his left. He stopped to think. Which one should he take? It might be a diversion. Who dug this tunnels anyway and why is
Colt woke up and sat up."What.... I'm awake, ain't I?" He asked himself. He was sure he was awake. Were his eyes still closed? Or why was everywhere still black? He tried to open his eyes for several minutes. "My eyes!" He jumped to his feet. Or at least tried. As soon as he moved , he hit his head hard against something. He raised his hand to touch. It felt like concrete."Div? Platoon! China? Hey! What the f*ck are you trying to pull?" He yelled. His voice echoed back to him. He touched his eyes. They were open. Why was everywhere still dark?He panicked."Hello! Anyone? Where am I? Dad? China, I bet that is you. Come on, we can talk about this. The bomb thing was just a joke. I wouldn't actually try to blow up my friend." He tried to persuade. He crawled forward as he spoke."Chan!" He changed tactics and yelled. "I'm talking to you. Answer me. Chan! Chan!"**************Wilson woke up, feeling groggy. Like most other times, it took him some ti
Wilson weaved through the thin blades of ice, like a veteran surfer through the water waves. He stretched his hand like before to grab the furious twin by the head just like he did with his brother. He had developed a liking for grabbing his opponents by the face. His fingers were only centimeters away from securing a firm grip when suddenly he felt a change in the air pressure, or was it temperature, behind him. It was hard to explain if he tried. All he knew was someone was now there. He abruptly pulled his hand back, ducked his head and awkwardly rolled to the side as quickly as he could, barely escaping a fatal knife stab to his jugular."Tsk!" It was Colt who clicked his tongue and retreated. He left Wilson and went straight for Fawn who was by now, utterly exhausted from fighting two people at once. She was bleeding from her arms and thighs and various other cuts to her torso. Her clothes were in tatters. Wilson glanced at Dash and was surprised to see him holding out bett
"Sh*t! Zek is dead!" A voice spoke from within the smoke. It sounded muffled as if something was blocking the free passage of sound."F*ck! They discovered us. Rush in and kill them. The girl is mine." A female voice ordered from within the smoke. The third sentence made Fawn chuckle. That was Diva alright.Few seconds later, the swirling smoke of poison rippled."F*ck! Wind dude already joined them.""Just jump through, you idiot." The lady ordered again.Wilson did not wait for them to approach though. The team was still outnumbered, so in a bid to try and even the playing field before it could devolve into total chaos, he stepped forward and grabbed an idiot and forcefully pulled him in before the victim could react. Jim instantly three wind blades at him while Dash dashed towards him and stabbed him as quickly and in as many vital points as possible. The victim was dead before he could even make an impact."Minus two!" Wilson called out."Remainder se
China yelled in frustration as he once again ran straight towards Jim. He had tried to send his near invisible poison towards Jim and the team over and over again but this dastardly Jim, who looked like a mock version of a businessman and never stopped talking, somehow managed to stop the spread of the poison. And what's more, he could not catch up to him either because he was way too fast for him, constantly waiting for him to close half the distance between them before boosting himself with his wind ability and running to the farthest corner again. As China neared Jim once more, Jim leaned slightly forward. His suit jacket fluttered a little. A sure sign of him harnessing his ability once again.China felt the slight sting at the back of his neck increase till his head started buzzing. A warning sign from Colt. As soon as he saw Jim blur out of sight, he immediately sprayed out his poison out of every pore of his body. A thick cloud of smoke instantly filled a meter radius
Noise abound at the Boneyard Arena in Bones Street in Tiger City, as the crowd of spectators cheered. Several teams had already duelled it out since morning and it was not only at this arena but in every other properly accounted for arena in Bones Street, Brawl Street, the seven Major Streets and even Horr's underground wrestling platforms.Never before had the officials of Tiger City paid attention to the wrestling competitions but now that they were planning to join in, they were more than willing to make their first intra city competition as memorable as possible. The competition hadn't even started properly, as that will only begin after the top 64 had been selected and broadcasted to the entire city. Even then, the preliminaries was already bumbling. Every body - individuals, gangs, organisations and even military schools - who dreamt of fame, recognition, money or just wanted to improve their skills, gathered a team of five at minimum and registered to take part in it. Qua
"Wilson! Wilson! Wilson, can you hear me?" Danny called. Wilson turned his head to look at him.Everyone thought he had a good reason for pulling attention towards him. They should have known better."You stink! Can you tone it down?"Dash and Gene Chang immediately scurried away from his side. This idiot seemed to like playing with death. It was best to stay away to avoid collateral damage. But Wilson did not attack. Instead, thin red smoke-like fumes, that Charlie, the instructor and Gene Chang had noticed emanating from him, reduced."Wilson." Charlie called. "Can you control it? You simply have to continue your thought process but slowly push it towards the direction you want it to go."Wilson nodded. For about a minute, nothing happened. Dash opened his mouth and spoke in a whisper, not wanting to break Wilson's thought process."He's taking longer than expected.""Yeah! It's not unexpected. High quality means high requirements." The instructor said.
Wilson was short of words for a long time after his mother completed the story. He quietly hugged her. Everything she had done, no matter how selfish, she had done to protect him and cure him from the curse."Thank you mom. You are the best mom I could ever ask for."Silvia smiled and sniffled. Charlie glanced at them from his lying position on the grass and sighed. They were still not done. Come on. They were only separated for about a year or so. What was there to catch up on for so long.'They are hugging again.' He grumbled under his breath. 'I should download some offline games in case of another time. Uh! I'm so bored. Finish up, man.'He dared not say it out loud though. He was not stupid. A woman who had access to spatial magi-tech and could exonerate his father's name from the long list of deceased traitors was definitely not simple. She even had connections in Tiger City itself. He wasn't stupid enough to test her patience after a long awaited reunion
Before Wolfe died, he had an illicit affair with his childhood sweetheart, Charlotte. While Wolfe was legally married and in love, it was all for the public's eyes. After all, he was a public figure and he cared a lot about how people viewed him. Maybe a little too much. If he hadn't, he probably would have married Charlotte instead.Charlotte was heavily pregnant when Wolfe jumped into the those outer worlders' ship. The knowledge made Wolfe's real wife, Monica feel betrayed. The invasion and resistance continued for a while and after some time, Monica and Charlotte met in a makeshift underground bunker while escaping for their lives. They got into a stupid fight with each other and insulted and cursed at each other. But Monica was quickly overwhelmed, she burst into tears and in a fit of rage and frustration, grabbed the bare soil beneath her and glared at Charlotte."Wolfe deceived me. He used me to boost his career. And while I suffered every night, he spent them in bed
"Some couple centuries or back, before the first invasion, your great great grandfather, I think it's two greats, was a well known modified fighter. He had the strength and grit. He was very popular for his sportsmanship and showmanship. When the aliens first struck earth, he was in the middle of the biggest fight of his career against a fellow fighter named Boxer. Boxer is the ancestor of the royal family. Grandpa Wolfe was the first person to deal a fatal blow to the alien ship. Of course, that's not what the history books say. Apparently, to further bolster their image in the eyes of the citizens of the kingdom, the historical records were altered, but the royal family and certain important families know the truth. That's why Tiger City was given its independence in the first place. As a tribute to our ancestor and to maintain a good relationship with us."Wilson blinked. He understood most of that. As usual, his observant mom noticed."We will go into details about that
