Kirk smiled and said, "How do you know for sure that you're the target instead of me? I was born and bred here. It's normal for me to have some enemies."

Caroline shook her head and said, "You don't have to make me feel better. The enemy was targeting me, or he wouldn't have called me."

Kirk's expression changed instantly, and he narrowed his eyes. "Someone called you?" he asked.

Caroline nodded, and Kirk's expression softened.
