Gwen had tears in her eyes as she forced herself to nod and agree with Caroline.

"Got it!" she said. "Take care, Carol!"

Caroline nodded and took one last glance at Gwen before heading to the door resolutely.

"Who is it?" Caroline asked when she reached the door. She spoke calmly, like she would normally, so that no one would realize that anything was off.
