At that moment, Cheryl sat in the car, still somewhat embarrassed by all the praise she had received. She hadn't meant for all that to happen.

Before Selena could speak again, Cheryl interjected, "Mrs. Hackett Senior, I want to buy something. You can drop me off ahead."

"I'll go with you," Selena volunteered enthusiastically.

Cheryl cast an awkward glance at her. "I'd like to go alone."

Instead of thinking that Cheryl wasn't interested in shopping with her, Selena assumed the latter needed time alone after everything that had happened.

"I understand. We'll drop you off at the next intersection. Cheryl, don't think about it too much. We'll definitely protect you," Selena reassured her.
