Chapter 1: The Wronged girl

The corpses sitting at the morgue made more noise than either of us, we just stared each other down as the silence wore on. The radio on my desk had been turned off since the start of this “interview” if you could even call it that. I figured neither of us would appreciate being interrupted while talking. To be honest, I’m pretty sure we both hated the damn thing, but I kept it out of courtesy.

It’s not every day you get a fifty-dollar radio for your first successful case. The woman in front of me, who was unrelentingly trying to bore a hole into my head, was Maria De Vega, one of the PD’s suspects for a recent string of murder’s going around near the red-light districts. Maria was a mechanic who worked at Ross and, allegedly, a well-known vagrant in her area. At first glance, you’d think that’d be the case. She had dark skin, with curly hair that was a

Chapter 2: De Vega's Interrogation

As I scan the documents in my hand, I could feel Maria's piercing gaze upon me. The situation is not fun for both of us. I know she knows something about the killings around the area. But some things holding her back. What could it be? "Can we get over this now? My nagging boss will be not happy about this". Maria scoffed aggravatingly.  " look, I know you don't like it in here and I know how stressful it is to be blamed as a suspect for a crime. But can you please cooperate with u-.." "How many times will I tell you that I know nothing! It's just a coincidence that I know these people and it's just all acquaintances!" Maria cut me off before I even finished my sentence. She's being defensive and I could feel it because of the way she plays with her ring, shaking voice, and

Chapter 3: An Old Friend

At 3 pm, Nick and I together with a convoy of police officers picked Maria on her work. I talked to Ross, her boss that we need to investigate the killings in the area. And Maria was the too suspect. Ross was not happy about it obviously. We got into the vehicle with Maria and drive on the way to the office. We got into the office and went into the Interrogation room as usual, and get into the interview. As Usual, Maria knows who the victim was. "He was a friend of mine back in high school. I came across him the other day and we catch up with our lives for a while then we headed on our way". Her eyes darted towards me and with a serious tone she said; " But I didn't kill him". "But all the other victims were related to you, and yo

Chapter 4: An Occult

While Jane was working on the case, Nick suddenly came up with a new report.   "Rumors were roaming around the city about an occult. But it is not yet confirmed",   Nick said calmly. Jane looked at him with a slightly annoyed glared   " We have a more serious case here, and we have no time to investigate about rumors Nick".    Then I remembered all the documents on Nick's desk. He's been investigating that occult thing since when???   "Woah geez, calm down tiger. Maybe it has something to do with the murders around the city. I will continue to investigate it. Do your thing I will do mine".   Nick went back to his desk and went on in his research. The thick air inside the room is loaded my

Chapter 5: Day Off

As soon as I entered my apartment, I was greeted by my black cat, Luna. I immediately picked her up and gave her a big kiss. I sat down for a while and rested. I took a hot bath and changed my clothes. Finally, home where I can relax and be myself. "Having a relaxing time isn't that bad right Luna?"  Luna just looked at me with her big round eyes and her fluffy face. I gave her a bowl of cat foo which she certainly enjoys. Of course, I prepared a meal for myself, meaning I ordered a box of pizza through the phone. I waited for my dinner while I do some light chores around the house. As I'm about to relax on the couch, the phone rang. *phone rings voice message began* "Hi, Jane! hope you doing okay! Just checking on yeah see you after your leave!" *end of voice message* "Oh, it's Nick good to hear from him after

Chapter 6: Unexpected Visit

My heart pounded as I heard the loud knock on the door. Maybe I'm just imagining things but again, another knock can be heard. I jumped out of the couch and grab my pistol. I slowly approached the door. Sweat from anxiety ran down across my forehead. Heart pounding from paranoia.  I slowly opened the door and pointed the gun at whoever's on the other side. Pointed it out and then realized it was Nick together with Maria. A breath of relief take over me but furthermore shocked with the fact that Maria was with Nick.  "Woah chill out Jane it's just me and Maria" Nick Trembles as he raised his hands in the air.  I quickly lowered the gun and put it on top of the shelf beside the door. "For the last fucking time it's Anne you asshole! What's with you, Jane? You almost killed us with that fucking gun?!"

Chapter 7: Unnerving Discovery

I studied the piece of evidence. There's nothing new about it. It's the same as the other bloody dolls found in the crime scene in the past. I sighed in disappointment. Before the clean-up crew put away the corpse I took a few pictures of the body uncovered. The stench of blood overpowers the smell of tobacco in the room. I put on a mask so I don't have to inhale the atrocious smell of blood and tobacco. Like all the other victims, they died eyes open. But this one, thick greenish substance running down from his eyes and mouth. He looked horrid I would say. Veins popping out all over his body in a weird manner. This is the most horrifying sight I'd ever encounter in this case. My stomach turned I felt vomit forming through my throat. I ran into the nearest corner and vomited my guts out.Nick quickly approached me as soon as he realized what's going on.

Chapter 8: Order of the Paragon

*Jane's dream* I woke up in the middle of a room dark room with lit candles sparsely distributed across the area. I'm sitting down on a rickety old wooden chair and my vision was still blurry as I completely open my eyes. Tried to rub them to clear my sight but then I realized… I'm tied down. Quickly I scanned the room for answers. One by one people appears from every dark corner of the room.  I am now surrounded by unknown people covered in a red veil. I couldn't see their faces. I struggled to get out of being tied down but it was hopeless. I tried to scream but only air came out to my mouth as they were getting closer… and closer. They were whispering something I can't understand. The whispers getting louder and louder and turned into blood-curdling screams. One by one the person uncovers their face revealing their identity. They were the corpses

Chapter 9: The Markings

As I study the photos from the last night's crime, noticed something familiar. I zoomed in into the corpse's forearm that has a tattoo. But half of it was covered. Then I realized, it was the same as the one Nick printed out. So I side by side the two images, and it was confirmed. I asked Nick to come over to my desk to look at my discovery.  "Is it possible that the victims were members of the occult?" He gasped "It is possible, but why would they kill their member?" I gather up the evidence "Let's go to the morgue and check if the other victims have the same tattoo."  We Rushed into the city morgue and examine the corpses one by one. The smell of the embalmed dead bodies makes my stomach turned, the smell of the chemical mixed with the slowly rotting, cold bodies makes it worse. We gathered all of the bodies

Chapter 10: The Investigation Continues

It is getting late. Nick and I went back to the office to log out and getting ready to end the day at the office. I packed all my belongings, turned off the computer, and went out of the building with Nick. While on our way to my apartment, I couldn't help but think about the mysterious tattoo. The victim's spouse said he never had a tattoo, not even when he's gone missing for the past 28 hours until he was found. And the symbol wasn't tattooed with regular ink, it was a burnt mark. It was like he has branded as livestock. But it is not a fresh burnt mark, but a healed one. If he was 'branded' when he got killed, it should cause a blister.  "Annabelle said Adrian never had a tattoo when he went missing," I reported to Nick while he was driving.  He glanced at me with an intense look in his eyes. "The killer must have tattooed him the day he went missing
