The Quiet Giant's Mate Chapter 20 - Regina

I am officially over people treating Ivan like some second-class person. That nanny is damn lucky he’s nicer than I am. How dare she stand in the Furlan villa and speak to him like that. And it’s worse, she was HIS nanny! How can someone who helped raise and knew him as a boy treat him like that? I don’t give a flying fuck what she lost in the war.

I don’t care that he’s the only surviving ranked wolf from that coup. He didn’t take part in it willingly. He is a victim like everyone else. Icky Iggy, his assclown bestie Gastone, and the wicked witch Melania are responsible. They wanted the war. Icky and Gastone wanted power, while Melania wanted to keep Zio Alec and Crista from awakening Darkness and Light. All three of them paid for their actions. Zio Alec killed Icky Iggy, Darren killed Gastone, and Katrina killed Melania. The END!

I hope that future interactions with Tasha are more pleasant. I’m not saying she needs to learn her place because she’s the nanny, and we are ranked wolves. She must learn some decency and basic respect for a fellow werewolf who lost loved ones. I won’t throw around my title or family connections unless I have to, granted name-dropping does tend to shut people up. I’d rather handle people myself. I am my mama’s daughter. She raised me to be polite and soft-spoken till I needed to be brash and loud.

I wasn’t surprised that Ivan drives a lifted truck that was modified for him to get in and out easily. My only problem with his truck is that he doesn’t have one of those step rails for short people like me to get in. I felt ridiculous when he picked me up like a child and put me in the front seat. I felt slightly less ridiculous when he leaned over, buckled me in as a rouse to kiss my neck, and called me his fiery pixie. Impossible to feel anything but aroused when he does things like that.

The drive to his villa was nice. We chatted, getting to know each other better. Sure, the start of the conversation seemed one-sided. But I accept that getting him to open up and say more than a few words won’t be easy. He’s a hard nut to crack. I know that probably sounds like a punch line, gutter brains. I’m not André, so I won’t be making innuendos about making Ivan bust a nut.

He talked more once he felt more comfortable, especially when discussing his vineyard and family. I love his voice, and maybe because he doesn’t speak much, it makes me appreciate every word more. He’s also not the most expressive man, but when he spoke of Grace and Amelia, the soft smile on his face melted my heart. I’m so lucky the Goddess gave me such a sweet man.

“Whoa…” I blinked as I looked out the window as we approached his villa.

It’s gorgeous and looks bigger than the Petridis ancestral villa we will live in as long as there are no objects from my parents. The estate doesn’t have all this property as it’s closer to the city center.

“The Pavesi family liked to show off and live above their means.” Ivan shrugged. “I don’t use most of the rooms unless Amelia visits.”

“I can understand not using all the rooms. I’d never get the reasons for being flashy or living above your means.” I assured him.

“I’m sure your home is just as big.” Ivan shrugged as he parked and hurried around the truck to help me.

“I’ll have you know my parents’ villa has three bedrooms. I grew up sharing a bedroom with Zoe. Not an easy thing after she hit puberty” I wrinkled my nose.

“I should count myself lucky that she and our cousins went in on building the Night Haven, so she never risked bringing any of her lovers home.” I shrugged.

“One of the many reasons I don’t want to stay there when we go to Incubi.” Ivan sighed as he led the way inside.

“I only use the first floor. And I don’t use all of it.” Ivan explained. “Upstairs are three guest suites my sister’s family uses.” He pointed to the curved stairs.

“Past the stairs is the wing I mostly use. My office and the master suite. The kitchen and laundry are the only other things I use.” He pointed to the left of the foyer.

“So, you don’t even use the living room?” I asked, pointing to the large room with its showroom-quality antique furniture.

I giggled as he gave me that straight-faced ‘you better be joking’ look. I started to wander, exploring the villa. Besides a toy box in the family room and a few dolls that I’m sure Grace left out on her last visit, nothing felt lived in or like it was a home Ivan would call his. It wasn’t till I ventured to the east wing that I found pieces that felt more like Ivan. They were masculine, rustic, made of solid wood, and looked custom to fit a giant.

“That is the biggest bed I’ve ever seen.” I blinked as I explored his bedroom and saw a massive bed that could fit ten people my size.

“They call it an Alaskan King. It is about three meters wide and long. So, it gives me ample space to sleep.” Ivan shrugged as he leaned in the doorway.

“It’s HUGE!” I laughed, dropping my bag and kicking off my shoes before I climbed into the bed.

“We are bringing this with us. I don’t think we’d find another bed offering this comfort level.” I laughed as I started jumping around on the enormous mattress.

“Are you done?” He arched an eyebrow as he walked closer when I jumped near the edge.

I laughed and jumped back before I had a chance to fall off. It’s adorable that he’s worried I would fall off this bed.

“Please be careful.” He sighed, stretching his arms out to act as a barrier.

“I would have to try to fall off this bed.” I laughed while still jumping around.

I yelped and laughed as his arms wrapped around me when I got within his reach. Of course, I’d gotten that close on purpose. I love being in his arms—no safer place in the world.

“That’s enough jumping. Your dress keeps rising, and I can see your breasts moving under the fabric.” He growled but not an angry growl, the horny kind.

I laughed and wiggled out of my dress, so I stood on the bed in his arms in only my underwear. “Is that better?” I smirked.

“Regina…” That growl became needier as his eyes darkened.

I said I’d call my family when we got to his place. And I will, but I refuse to feel bad that we detoured and partook in a little afternoon delight. Emphasis on delight. Being in a bed that gave him all the room he needed made a world of difference. And he took his time working me up with his fingers and mouth. If I thought he had talented fingers, his tongue exceeded that. We again neglected using a condom but discussed that we wouldn’t actively avoid having a family.

“As fun as making you scream my name is…” After a few minutes of us silently cuddling in his enormous bed, Ivan sighed.

“I know.” I sighed and snuggled closer. “I need to call my family, but I want to stay in your arms.”

“Five more minutes.” Ivan conceded and held me tighter.

I smiled, happy knowing he wanted to stay here as much as me. Of course, five minutes was not long enough and ended too soon. But there was no more putting it off or avoiding it. Especially as my phone started ringing with my mom’s Angel of Music ringtone while we were getting dressed. I didn’t even get a chance to fix my hair before I answered. I knew if I didn’t, she’d keep calling.

“HI, mama!” I smiled as I turned the phone to avoid giving her a glimpse of Ivan’s bare ass while he looked for his underwear.

“Ciao, uccellino.” Mama smiled, but I could tell she had much she wanted to say. “I heard something rather interesting from Dayna.”

I expected her to say André, but he’s managed to keep his mouth shut. Shocker! Instead, it was my damn ex that outed my mating to his mother, who told mine. I am going to stone his whiny ass when I see him again. I sighed and rolled my eyes.

“Oh, I can only imagine what her precious little shithead told her,” I grumbled. “Let me guess. He whined to his mama that my mate Ivan broke his wrist and threatened to break more bones.”

“That was certainly a topic Dayna brought up. She’s concerned for her son’s safety with you bringing Ivan home.” Mama nodded.

“Why aren’t you home yet? Where are you? That’s not André’s villa or the packhouse.” Her brow furrowed as she tried to see what was behind me.

“I’m at Ivan’s villa,” I explained.

“And Valter deserved what he got. He had no respect for Ivan, me, or our bond. And if he hadn’t tried to grab my arm to stop me from walking away, Ivan wouldn’t have had to break his wrist.” I defended Ivan’s actions.

“I assumed Valter did something out of line. I told Dayna that he deserved it if he did something to aggravate a newly mated male. And that if he continued to be disruptive to your relationship, I would apologize to my brother for the headache of picking a new Delta.” Mama smiled.

‘Did I hear her right? Did she threaten to kill Valter?’ Ivan asked in our link.

‘She sure did.’ I said proudly.

“Mama…” I laughed and shook my head.

“I can and will handle Valter. He knows I’m not above stoning him.” I assured her.

“And otherwise, I’m pretty sure he’s terrified of Ivan, even though he’s a total teddy bear.” I glanced to be sure that Ivan was dressed before I moved the phone so he was in the frame. “Aren’t you, my gentle giant?”

Mama laughed as my sweet mate looked embarrassed at my calling him my gentle giant. I felt a little bad because he looked like a deer in headlights when I camera pointed at him.

“Ciao, Ivan.” Mama smiled. “Welcome to the wild, fun, and occasionally violent world of being a member of the Petridis family. You’ll get used to it.”

“Um… Ciao Beta Isadora. And um, thank you.” Ivan awkwardly answered.

“You don’t have anything to fear from me, Ivan. No one in our family will cause you harm or be rude. At least not if they know what’s good for them.” Mama shrugged.

Ivan grunted with a nod. He’s back to being quiet, but that’s okay. I know it will take time for him to warm up and feel comfortable with my family. With me, it’s easier because we are mates and share a special bond.

“Mama, I will add in Papa, Zoe, and Alexander. I wanted to do the introduction with everyone to get it out of the way.” I sighed.

“And have me play chaperone to ensure your papa and brother don’t speak out of turn.” Mama nodded in understanding. “Go ahead.”

“Oh, Ivan, before I add the rest of my family, is there somewhere more appropriate we could do this? Like maybe your office or living rooms here, I could link my phone to a larger screen?” I asked.

“We can use my office,” Ivan said as he led the way to his office.

“Perfect.” I smiled as I went about linking my phone to his laptop.

Soon my mother’s face was on one screen, and I included my papa, Zoe, and Alexander in the Facetime call. Ivan had stayed out of frame while I set everything up. Soon both monitors filled to show all four members of my family.

While Regina set up the Facetime on my laptop, I checked my files, looking for the envelope Alexander had brought me that day three years ago. I finally found it and tucked it into my pocket when Regina waved me over. “Now that I have everyone together, I have an announcement. Last night at the ball I found my mate. So, I’d like to introduce you to the newest member of our family.” Regina smiled and stepped slightly to the side to allow me to sit in the office chair. I took a deep breath as I slid into the office chair and came into view of the camera. Isadora smiled at me, while Damon, Zoe, and Alexander had the same expression. That expression said ‘what the fuck’ loud and clear. Her Mama may have welcomed me to their family, but the looks of the others weren’t very welcoming. “You’re serious?” Damon questioned. Regina rolled her eyes and sat on my lap to be in view. Damon and Alexander didn’t look thrilled that she was now in my lap. “Of course, I’m serious, papa. See…” R

The video meeting with my family went…I don’t know how to describe it. At least no one spoke against Ivan and I being together. That’s what mattered the most to me. I wanted him to feel welcomed by my family. I knew how hard it was for him to sit there and witness how my family interacted. I know how much he missed his parents at that moment. I missed them too. For me, it was different because I was missing people I didn’t know but wished I had a chance to. The call quickly went off the rails when we brought up the missing document. While I’m glad that my brother truly had no malicious intentions and thought he’d fulfilled his Beta duties. And I mean, he did. It wasn’t his place to break the Alpha seal to confirm what was inside the envelope. I was equally relieved and pissed when Darren revealed it was Lia behind it all. I know it’s weird to be relieved by it being that stupid bitch’s fault. But hear me out. I was relieved because it meant it wasn’t my brother’s fault. And it also m

Going to that masquerade ball was the best thing to ever happen to me. Soon to be second best. I know you’re probably wondering what could replace finding my mate as the best thing to happen to me. I will happily tell you it’s the birth of our pup. I love Regina with all my heart, and meeting her changed my life, but becoming a papa is something I believed was even less possible than having a mate. Finding out Regina was pregnant had a ripple effect of reactions, mostly good. Isadora was over the moon that she was going to be a Nonna. Damon was… sad, not disappointed that we were having a baby. He was sad that he would be away for most of the pregnancy. He’s sent little trinkets from his travels that are customs from the packs he’s visited when a new pup is on the way. Regina has loved receiving mail every week or so from around the world. Zoe sounded happy for us, though she’d had her own mountains to climb in the later months of Regina’s pregnancy. I’m not going to get into tha

I won’t blow smoke up your ass and say the last two years have been perfect. There is no such thing as perfect. Anyone who tells you their life is ‘perfect’ is in denial. My life quickly changed three years ago at André’s masquerade ball. I went from being single to having a mate to having a son. There is only one thing I’d change if I could: finding Ivan sooner. I do wish I got to dole out Lia’s punishment for tampering with official documents. In the end, she got what was coming to her. She may not have been turned to stone and knocked over, effectively killing her. But who am I to argue with how André allowed Delilah to deal with her? That was one of the perks of being their surrogate. They let her decide Lia’s fate. It seemed fair that Lia hurt Delilah just as much without realizing it. Lia is still alive, but she’s learned her lesson and may never want to be near a plant again for the rest of her life. And no one in Sicily will ever see her again as she was kicked out of the pac

I haven’t done the Valentine’s thing since I was human. That’s over four decades ago! Dani was not the sort of woman that wanted to be wooed. The first Valentine’s we were together, I tried to give her roses and had a candlelit dinner planned. Do you know what it feels like to have a rose stem in your eye? No? Just me? Okay. Before you say Dani is nuts, as true as that statement might have been, she had her reasons. She told me very clearly that she did not want to celebrate this holiday under any circumstances. I didn’t believe that because my experience with women told me if I didn’t do something, I was going to be in the doghouse. I later learned that Valentine’s Day was the anniversary of her mom’s murder, and her dad had sent her and Mariana a dozen long-stem roses to fuck with them. It was a learning lesson. It happens to all of us. We live and learn from our past experiences. Since Dani dumped me, I haven’t dated, so I didn’t bother with Valentine’s Day. I didn’t desire or

“Aw, thank you, babies.” I smiled as my five babies gave me their Valentine’s. Since they stopped making us give out Valentine’s in school, the only ones I’ve gotten have been from my kids. And even then, I didn’t start getting them till Kennedy was in Pre-School, and she learned about Valentine’s Day and giving people cards and candy to show you love them. After that, she saved some of the candy she’d get and made me a card. Kennedy then taught each of her younger siblings Valentine’s and had them help her make cards. She even helped my actual baby Russ make me a card. He’ll be a year old next month, so his card was more Kennedy’s effort with his scribbles and handprint. I still love and treasure each card my babies give me. Their father may not have loved me, but I never doubted they did. “Happy Valentine’s Day, Mommy!” Those old enough to say it shouted with smiles on their faces. “Mama!” Russ clapped as he wiggled out of Kennedy’s arms to reach for me. Then, when I offered to buy her this house, she was hesitant. The only way I got her to let me buy it was for her to put some of her money into the purchase and that the deed would only ever be in her name. Now I’m doing it again. The bathroom mirror reflected Evie and me standing side by side, and for a moment, I couldn’t help but marvel at how surreal everything felt. My soft pink lace dress hugged my figure, the delicate floral appliqués shimmering faintly under the warm bathroom light. The fitted bodice gave way to a flowing A-line skirt, and the soft curls of my hair framed my face, half pinned up at Evie’s suggestion. It was rare that I felt this beautiful, but tonight wasn’t just any night—it was Valentine’s Day, and for the first time, I had someone to share it with. Evie adjusted the sweetheart neckline of her lavender mermaid gown, and I turned to watch her. The dress hugged her figure like it was made just for her, the appliquéd beads catching the light with every slight movement. Her brown curls cascaded over her shoulders, soft waves framing her glowing amber eyes. She caught me staring and smirked, her cheeks flushing faintly. “You’re staring again, you know.” “Can you blame me?” I teased, step

It was well into the evening when persistent knocking pulled me from blissful sleep. My body felt heavy, and I blinked in confusion, slowly realizing that Sophie’s bare back lay beneath my hand. Memories of our bond flooded back—her teeth at my neck, the thrill of becoming mates. The knocking came again, sharper this time. As I lifted my head, I noticed Sophie sleeping peacefully, her dark hair splayed around her. I almost ignored the sound to stay curled around her warmth, but my wolf, Noria, grew annoyed. My phone lay dead on the sofa; I had missed any calls. Reluctantly, I slipped from her side, pulling on some clothes and tying my messy hair into a ponytail. I glanced at my reflection—happy but tired. I shut the bedroom door quietly and moved to the front door, where the knocking continued urgently. I peered through the peephole and recognized my parents, Andrew and Roxanne. A wave of unease washed over me. My parents rarely showed up unannounced. Taking a deep breath, I open

Evie placed her hands on either side of my head, trapping me against the door. My heart fluttered, filled with anticipation. Her gaze dropped to my lips, the questions swirling in her mind. Before she could speak, I gripped her sweater and pulled her closer, our torsos bumping together. A soft gasp escaped her, and our restraint snapped. We kissed hungrily, with a fervor that bordered on desperation. All the pent-up longing, the nights I’d lain awake in France, imagining my mate and our first night together, now guided every motion. The taste of her lips intoxicated me, and I sighed against her mouth, letting her slip her arms around my waist. A strangled moan escaped my throat when her fingers skated under my sweater, brushing the warm skin beneath. Between kisses, we shed more layers. First, my sweater, then hers, tossed onto the floor. A flush heated my skin when I realized I was standing here in my bra and pants. Under normal circumstances, I might have felt self-conscious, but E

I stood in the doorway of my apartment, my heart pounding so loudly that I was sure Sophie could hear it. The overhead lamp cast a warm light across the living room, illuminating the scattered evidence of my messy lifestyle—music sheets, guitar cables, and a precariously tilted cello case. She and I had come all this way—quite literally, on her part—and the reality that she was truly here, in my space, felt surreal. Sophie’s breath fanned across my cheek as she leaned in, and the tension in the air crackled with electric anticipation. My pulse raced, every inch of me straining toward her. The fresh scent of her skin—warm and a little sweet—curled around my senses, chasing away the lingering chill from outside. Her gray-blue eyes searched my face, and I realized she was waiting for me to close the final gap between us. I whispered her name, unable to control the tremor in my voice. The corner of her mouth quirked with the slightest hint of a smile, and I felt a surge of daring race th

Standing in my childhood bedroom in Paris, I considered canceling my flight for a Valentine’s Day mate gathering in Silverclaw. My father insisted I wouldn’t meet my mate if I stayed in Les Hurleurs Sanctifiés, the pack I grew up in. At twenty-one, I was well past the age when many wolves find their mates; friends had found theirs by eighteen or nineteen. My mother encouraged me, saying the bond was worth the effort. So, as Valentine’s Day approached, I gave in and booked my flight to Portland, Oregon, the nearest major airport to the Silverclaw Pack in Washington. It all made sense on paper: attend the mate gathering, meet wolves from other packs, and perhaps walk away with the partner fate had promised me since birth. In my heart, though, I was nervous. What if it turned out the same as all the other mate gatherings? What if I left, still feeling that lonely ache in my chest? I pushed away the thought as best I could. The flight was long—from Paris to Amsterdam and then to Portland

Winters in Bloodmoon have always been beautiful, but it’s the kind of beauty best shared with someone else. I had no someone else. I was alone in my tiny apartment, in that awkward in-between place where my wolf demanded companionship I still hadn’t found. I’m eighteen, living on my own for the first time, enrolled at the University of Portland for music…and mateless. It was lonely in ways I couldn’t describe to my friends. At university, my classmates saw a seemingly normal freshman, a girl with a bright smile, wavy brown hair, and a knack for the cello. They didn’t see how my wolf, Noria, prowled inside me, restless and craving that fabled mate bond. It was a Friday night, one I should have spent partying or doing anything with friends. Instead, I planned an evening of tragic solitude. I’d just flopped onto my sofa, halfheartedly scrolling through N*****x. My reflection in the dark TV screen caught my eye first: hair tumbling past my shoulders in loose brown waves, warm-toned skin w

Dear Readers, Love has a way of surprising us—especially when fate steps in. Thread of Destiny is a story about friendship, longing, and the magic of fated mates. It’s a sapphic paranormal romance that blends the thrill of unexpected love with the warmth of a second-chance connection. If you’ve been following my stories, you may already be familiar with Evie and Sophie. Evie Rock is the younger sister of Rohan Rock, whose love story with Shikoba Thorn unfolded in Cult of Love (featured in The Genius Delta). Sophie Blanchett was first introduced as the French nanny caring for Rohan and Shikoba’s twin daughters. Their paths crossed in the past, but they were just side characters in someone else’s love story. Now, it’s their turn. Evie also made a small cameo in Her Second Chance Mate, and some of you may remember last year’s Valentine’s novella, A Moonlight Valentine, where love took center stage. As we entered the hall, I locked eyes with the various members of our family, and my vampire bandmates posted up around the room. Someone I knew was truly loyal to us was watching all the exits, which made me feel safer. The elders and their sons were already waiting on the stage. Christian, Elton, and Otto spotted us and hurried over with concerned expressions. “What’s wrong?” I asked, skipping any small talk. “Something feels… off,” Christian whispered, beckoning us to an alcove away from others. “Define off,” Sage said. “Beyond that, your families and the vampires are on high alert and watching all the exits?” Otto folded his arms. “They were weird all day. What’s up with that?” Elton asked. “Back to what’s off.” I nodded my chin to Christian. “Our dads and grandads. They... I can’t place it, but they’ve been acting weird the closer we’ve gotten to the ceremony.” Christian whispered. “Spit it out, kid.” I hissed. “Auðr.” Sage elbowed me. “I’m gonna need you to elaborate.
