CHAPTER 2
Truth beyond the MysteryㅤSEVERAL years ago, it is widely known that Izquierdo kingdom was one of the most prosperous, powerful, and peaceful kingdom within Xeofarea. However, an unforeseen revolution occurred which caused the vampires and humans who placed their faith upon the royal family’s extermination. A conflagaration between two races happened due to a rumor wherein the king and queen are using the land along with its people to their delectation. There were no proof shown but the townspeople believed what was told to them and Lucas suspects that they trust that individual a lot that it was easy for whoever it was to manipulate crowd.
Moreover, the late king, Arthur Griego along with his loyal subjects were annihilated while defending the castle and the innocuous, while the late queen, Erina Griego died in Rutchill woods with an unknown reason – some suspected that she was also killed while some says that she suicided but there were no concrete evidences to prove the aforementioned hypotheses.
Aside from the king and queen’s deaths, another mystery that had been going on for years is the lost vampire princess, Selene Griego, who was born a few days before catastrophe occured within Izquierdo.
Lucas heaved a deep sigh and closed the book that he was reading. He closed his eyes and his hair tussled along with the gentle wind that came to visit their library – it was such a cool breeze, one that Lucas preferred. Really, it’s a good thing that he chose to sit beside the window today as he read through various documents regarding the unsolved mystery of the Fall of Izquierdo. Though, of course, he will be reprimanded by his tutor if they knew that he neglected his studies for trivial and personal research, but who cares?
Anyway, the question never left his mind even after he read the text written inside the book. Questions began to rush inside his head like waterfalls and Lucas can’t help it but to sneer at himself and at the information he gathered.
Everything written about the princess looked like bullshit.
Lucas then snorted.
He took a quick glance through the previous records he read about the fall of Griego family. There is no doubt about the havoc that transpired several years ago but – the princess? Ha!
Napaismid si Lucas nang maalala ang isa sa mga tsismis: the queen may have sent the princess to another world. Man, parallel universes don’t exist nowadays!
Xeofarea isn’t a complex world with several realities like in fiction. What if’s won’t work here. Well at least, not anymore – but save that conversation for another time since in front of him lies the unsolved mystery of Selene Griego, the lost vampire princess who disappeared without a trace.
The prince nearly jumped in surprise when his knight, Jonas, abruptly butted in to his conversation with himself. While curiosity filled the other male’s voice, Lucas turned around to throw daggers at his knight. He shouldn’t even be ashamed that he’s caught talking to himself but hell, his cheeks burnt a bright red in embarrassment!
Should he hit Jonas, though? Lucas stared at his knight who tilted his head as he received no response from the prince. It was then when Lucas slowly shook his head – nah, that’s just a waste of time. And no, he’s far too concerned regarding the princess’ whereabouts.
Instead, Lucas tried to ask the knight, “Jonas, may itatanong ako sa’yo.”
“Ano ‘yon, mahal na prinsipe?”
Lucas’s eyebrow twitched and he hissed. “But first, you really got to stop calling me ‘mahal na prinsipe’.
Jonas stared at him incredulously. Lucas gave them the permission to call him by his first name anyway, they won’t get beheaded for being disrespectful or treacherous.
Of course, Jonas would first think about Xeofarea’s current state and about parallel worlds. After all, the Xeofarea that their ancestors used to live on is different from the current Xeofarea they’re living within.
Hm.
“What is this? I know that you've been reading things about the tragedy of Izquierdo but I never thought that you’d be interested in the lost princess, young master,” puna sa kanya ni Jonas nang simulan niyang buksan ang iilang libro na nasa lamesa.
Lucas hissed. “Shut up.
Dapat interactive at effective,” aniya.
Even so, the people were swayed by their words so... the Demelzas must have done something.
He scanned the pages that piqued his interest with a smile that did not falter.
“Jonas, any thoughts?” pag-uusisa niya.
Jonas let out a hum and cupped his own chin with his free hand. Una sa lahat, pwedeng namatay ito dahil kinain ng mabangis na hayop – or she probably became the werewolves’ feast for that night, who am I to say?”
Umangat ang isang kilay ng prinsipe. See, that was his reaction upon reading this pile of books in front of him! There is little to no chance that the princess could have survived against the harsh reality.
Yes, he’s read about that.
“Same thoughts.
“Of course, because they still don’t know what happened to her. But considering that she’s still there during that war, even though she’s technically a vampire, we’re still not immune against danger and predators. We’re still prone to death even though we’re labeled as immortals,” Lucas explained.
Lucas averted his gaze from Jonas, bringing his attention back to the table where he laid the books he’s reading. Various texts are served in front of them, most are reliable sources and some of these books helped him create a map for this unsolved mystery. Nevertheless, the information provided are still lacking – the possibilities they’ve shown are suspicious and Lucas refuses to consider them.
However, there is this one book which mentioned about queen Erina, casting a forbidden spell to send Princess Selene somewhere else away from Izquierdo kingdom – this idea entices him. The only downside of that information is of how the author said that the late Queen Erina sent Princess Selene to another universe.
Going back, it shouldn’t be impossible for them to cast spells. After all, aside from a vampire’s strength, one that they can brag about is their abilities to cast spell – though, it is strictly prohibited since the consequences are also heavy. For minor spells, it takes a toll in a vampire by eating out their strength and draining their energy. Still, the caster may take a rest and all will be well. Meanwhile, for the three forbidden spells – these spells require a sacrifice and it asks for the caster’s life and immortality.
If Queen Erina really casted one of those forbidden spells, then Lucas salutes her for her bravery and determination to save her newborn daughter.
“Wouldn’t it be the Hymn of the Moon, then?” Jonas blurted out after a moment of silence.
The knight, abruptly mentioning one of the three forbidden spells, as if he figured out the mystery Lucas had been trying to solve as he spoke with eagerness and enthusiasm caught his attention. He took a glimpse over Jonas, his scrutinizing gaze first felt unnerving, but it did not take long when he brought his gaze back to the books he had been reading.
“What do you mean by the ‘Hymn of the Moon’, Jonas?” Lucas asked as he blew out a loud breathe and leaned against the back rest of his chair.
Lucas knew, that’s also why it’s his least favorite spell – amongst everything that he learned so far. Ang boring. Walang sipa. Anyone can cast that spell because it has little to no restrictions.
“Iyong generic pala ang tinutukoy mo,” ani Lucas at napaismid.
Sinimangutan siya ni Jonas. “Mahal na prinsipe, kahit generic pa ang Hymn of the Moon, mahigpit na ipinagbabawal kahit ng mga wizard sa Magic Tower na gawin iyon.”
“Alam ko.” Umikot ang mga mata ni Lucas. “Anyway, that’s not what I wanted to know. Ba’t mo biglang in-insert sa usapan iyang mahikang ‘yan?”
“Ah.
Oo!
Dahil totoo!
Lucas was stunned for a moment and he didn’t move. As the sudden realization dawned upon him, he thought: why hadn’t it crossed his mind earlier?! He’s been trying to figure out this unsolved mystery all by himself, relying on textbooks which he isn’t even sure if truly reliable, and with Jonas’ criticial yet sometimes ridiculous ideas when... when his father has a connection with Izquierdo kingdom’s previous Magic Tower’s head magician – Merlin!
His eyebrow twitched as he heaved another rough sigh as he reached for his temples to massage.
Silence vanquished the area they occupied and Lucas finally stopped massaging his temples. He pondered about several things such as: will this trip be worth it? And will he get answers from Merlin? After all, he’s the only key that Lucas can rely on if he wanted to solve this one conspiracy.
Funny how he spends his time solving Izquierdo kingdom’s lost vampire princess when he has duties to fulfill. He’s spoiling himself by treating every second as leisure! Man, he has to get back on track soon but for now, he really had to see that magician.
“Yeah, I have to see someone.”
Merlin Kreese, one of the survivors of the tragedy – an escapee from Izquierdo kingdom who fled to Vintress kingdom to seek refuge and one of his father’s closest friend. The vampire who may lead him to the answer he’s seeking for.
CHAPTER 3Merlin the Wizard ㅤTO solve a mystery, first, one must find a key. Apparently, it seems like Lucas had been wandering around the puzzle he’s been trying to solve, prancing around without grasping upon an actual reliable source. Until now, he still can’t believe how his mind over-passed such crucial idea. It was as though the thought jumped over his head, never to be found again, until Jonas and the Hymn of the Moon brought it back in front of him. These two led him to Merlin Kreese, one of the survivors of the tragedy in Izquierdo, an escapee who sought refuge within the premises of Vintress kingdom. His title as the greatest wizard of Izquierdo kingdom no longer holds value. With time, it turned black and white – dull and uninteresting. Moreover, he’s currently residing in the farmlands, living his best life as an ordinary resident whose identity became irrelevant. Now, Merlin is probably spending his time by sitting at the terrace of his house every morning with a cup of
CHAPTER 4 Purpose ㅤAS MERLIN debunked the idea that the previous princess of Izquierdo kingdom was only fictional and was only created to spice up the history of Griego family’s tragedy and of her possible death, Lucas discovered that the spell ‘Hymn of the Moon’ may only sound lame in the ears of those who have not paid too much attention to its details. It turns out that it is something more than a boring spell and it actually deserves its seat as one of the forbidden magics out there. The mere fact that it is a protective spell made things bland but with the added reality of its capabilities – which is to surpress one’s identity to hide the object it was casted upon – Lucas understood why the spell requires a heavy sacrifice. Still, processing all these information may have taken a toll in his mind. “That better be not a joke,” Lucas uttered almost breathlessly. Merlin blinked, amused that despite he had laid out what he knew about the lost princess to fill in Lucas’ curiosity,
CHAPTER 5Tightrope ㅤ”THE stance that you’re doing isn’t right! I told you to relax your muscles or you might restrain your own movements, Prince Lucas!” the chief knight scolded him, her voice was deep and strict to the point that Lucas can’t help it but to tense and sweat drop, “fix your stance! That’s not how I taught you!” ‘Ah, fuck.’ Who would have thought that today’s training would be hellish? He certainly did not see this coming. The infuriation that seethed through his trainer’s voice as she watched his every moves felt like she’s trying to burn him alive. Not to mention that he’s standing in the middle of the training ground, under the menacing heat wave, feeling his sweat drip down his body, influencing his patience. Lucas was in the middle of training with the chief knight-slash-his trainer, Reina Lyte – who also happens to be Jonas’ mother and the greatest female knight within Vintress kingdom. Since he was unable to attend his training last week when he decided to meet
CHAPTER 6.1 Proceeding to the Journey ㅤLUCAS had never thought of inviting misfortune within their kingdom when he finally tied the knot with Princess Luan from the current Izquierdo kingdom. All he thought was that: if he retreated, kept his mouth shut and instead, defend their territory in ways that only he could by watching the Demelzas carefully, then he could preserve Vintress kingdom’s peace and harmony. This was his chosen way of maintaining balance. Only that it’s a temporary resolution and war is inevitable as the snakes would have bitten him to death if he chooses the easiest path available. With that, his father proved that he’s still unfit for being a leader with such choice. His choices aren’t exactly poor but it’s still lacking, although his father commended him for thinking logically as making friends with their enemies could really help them attain a serene administration. It was just that, peace was never an option. Behind the curtains and beyond the darkness, shad
CHAPTER 6.2 Confused ACCORDING to the folder that Duke Louwes handed him during his discussion with his father, the Demelza family is not as perfect as how the newspapers portrayed them—which was something he figured out while reading the articles about them. The folder also contained several issues regarding the neglected citizens of Izquierdo kingdom and the missing properties, sold land, of the entire kingdom right after the reign of Demelza family rose up. Lucas heaved a deep sigh as he read the book about the forbidden spells. He can’t focus in reading, to be honest. He’s trying to learn more about the Hymn of the Moon and the librarian told him that he could only get the book at the Magic Tower. He paid them a visit of course, only to see the head magician who agitated Lucas by saying that he couldn’t borrow the book. “Prince Lucas, reading the book of forbidden spells is a taboo!” was what the elder told him but he reasoned out that he’s studying the spells in order to be aw
CHAPTER 6.3 Suspicion AS soon as Princess Luan and King Morfran approved of his visit in Izquierdo kingdom, Lucas immediately set off to travel to the place. He also discussed this with his father during their dinner and he approved of his schedule for the day with a reminder to be careful since behind his visit lies an agenda to look for the ‘abandoned place’ where Griego family’s faithful subordinates are kept for execution. “You better not blow up your disguise visit,” was what the king told him back then, “or there would be dispute.” Lucas knew and understood immediately. All he has to do is to act like the ‘good’ fiance before he sneak out to check if the rumours are true. He also brought his strongest knight, Jonas, as well as some other knights who swore loyalty on him and before he left, King Alexander saw him prepare for his departure who blessed him with success. He heaved a sigh as soon as he discerned the gate and the walls of Izquierdo kingdom from afar—it has been lo
CHAPTER 6.4Land of the Forsaken SINCE Lucas was unable to suggest a place to stroll, Princess Luan decided to take a walk on their rose garden—which she, according to the princess, looks after with the help of some of her chosen gardeners. Well, Lucas will not gonna lie, the roses are beautiful and the scenery where they are in appeared very cinematic. Tipid siyang tumango. “The roses are well taken care of and the scenery’s great. You’ve got a great taste, Princess.” “Ah! Lucas exhaled sharply as Princess Luan pulled him to the spot she arranged to have tea with him. He faked his enthusiasm and his desire to see her—at the back of his head
CHAPTER 6.5Convinced NETHERMOORE is a place where vampires and humans alike are condemned. Depending on their ages and their gender, the people deserted in Nethermoore are either sold for slavery or other malicious acts such as trafficking while the young ones are introduced to child labor but that does not mean that there’s no possibility for child trafficking to occur. It has already been a week since he witnessed the monstrosity humans could do and for what reason? He doesn’t know but at the same time, he can’t blame the Demelza—what the revolutionaries did was treachery against the royal family, after all. Still... it’s too much. He can’t wrap his head around what he witnessed. But to be honest, he didn’t like the stern look on her face and he knew that she’s about to reprimand him for spacing out, as well as not giving his best durin
The thing was, King Zeno kept mum about his father’s greed until he lost ‘someone’. But as long as he apologized, she’s good with it.“Are you good?”Natigilan si Selene nang marinig ang boses ni Merlin. “Ah... Kailangan mo ba talaga siyang kausapin tungkol doon ngayon?”“Yes. I promised him, remember?”Humigop nang mala
But announcing an important thing comes with a huge responsibility: she and Merlin will be busy planning her debut out and the entire preparation. She was also taught how to dance and after thirty minutes, she realized that that was not her strongest asset.
I don’t like the idea of pleasing the noble faction,” was what she told Merlin while they were busy discussing her debut which will happen within two months. We’re not persuading them that you’re much worthy than the previous royalties that they wanted to pursue. You just needed to let the entire Kingdom know that you’re no fiction.”“Do they still think that I’m fake?”“Some of th
CHAPTER 43.3BusyIT WAS ONLY a week after when Selene received a letter from Lucas. Then again... His duties would not be this delayed if Morfran Demelza didn’t interfere with their homecoming and abducted the Prince of Vintress Kingdom. But then recently, she has been receiving reports that Luan Demelza had frequently visited the front gates of Izquierdo Kingdom and demanded to talk to her. There
Merlin had finished his duties and approved some projects to further improve Izquierdo Kingdom’s situation such as budgeting and passing a law beneficial for everyone. Meanwhile, the reason why Selene had finished her duties as soon as the sun had finally set and the nightsky had dominated across the atmosphere was because she enjoyed reading the comparison between the eras of both Demelza family and Griego family. And while it’s true that her parents weren’t perfect as King and Queen, one of the sole reasons was because their deaths didn’t happen until
She remembered that she had just recently sent a letter to one of her friends – kaso hindi siya kaagad na nakatanggap ng sagot mula sa mga ito. The thought that she was waiting and a lot has already happened since then makes her feel relieved. That’s just her estimation, honestly. Ayaw mag-isip ni Selene nang kung anu-ano.After she thought of how long it took to receive a letter from her friends, Selene opened it. She was extra careful because the letter had a dried rose inside it, and she assumed that her friends sent her this to use as a bookmark, perhaps? And that’s what she’ll do if she ever starts reading another book.As
CHAPTER 42.5FamilyAFTER DISCUSSING MERLIN’S relationship with her parents and understanding that they had such a complicated and rough time hiding their romantic feelings toward each other, Selene remembered that one thing that Count Valderas told her about her mother’s roots.“Merlin, nabanggit pala sa ‘kin ni Konde Valderas na tagakaharian ng Vintress pala si Mama?” pag-uusisa niya habang nasa kalagitnaan sila ng paghahapunan.
CHAPTER 42.4Not An Ordinary RelationshipFROM THE WINDOW, Selene could witness the sun set and of how the beautiful orange hue was slowly turning into a dark bluish nightsky. It must be because she enjoyed her previous classes or maybe... She was scared to find out the truth about Merlin’s relationship with her parents. But then again, she can’t help it! Did you seriously think that I’d have the courage to hurt King Arthur or Queen Erina?” naaaliw nitong tanong. Even amusement danced on his purple eyes which made Selene flinch and pause.Selene pressed her lips togeth
It turned out that Selene looks like her father but mostly behaves like his mother. But the way she deals with things is very much like her father. But she’s curious.
