I ran myself a cold shower, deliberately staying under the shower for quite some time, not to catch a cold– but to cool my growing hot head down and calm my nerves that were rising with each passing second.

I signed, replaying Hudson's words in my head as I stepped out of the bathroom with a white towel wrapped around my body.

Flash back

“It's okay— and one more thing, I learned from Rowan Gray that another man was involved aside from him.”

“What's about him Mr Hudson?”

“Well according to what Alpha Rowan Gray had told me, we have to make sure he's not a potential threat,”

Does this man also know something about him? But if anything I will not give him out so I asked with a smile, “What are you implying Mr Hudson?”

“What I'm trying to say is that, I want to know your relationship with him, although he didn't reveal much—but I know he wanted me to hand the matter over to the association, which might require your appearance later,”

I knew this game, he was trying to push the words i

MaverickI left the office later in the afternoon, I knew Ember must already be at the estate, so I drove there directly. I had Alex stay at the company to look after some minor deals. As I arrived, I parked my car and stepped out, before heading towards the estate.“Good afternoon, Mr Nightshade” the workers greeted.I hummed, not interested in replying to them, but It was then that I heard a tiny voice exclaim from the other side of the room. “I know you.”My eyes turned in his direction. He was wearing a black trousers and a blue Mickey mouse shirt. He sat comfortably on the red sofa with his legs crossed together, I couldn't help but notice his amber eyes were much deeper now.I found myself going to his side, “Why are you sitting here alone and where is your mommy?” I asked him first, looking around.“Mommy asked me to wait here for her, she said she's not going to take a lot of time.” he said, fiddling with his shirt.I nodded at his response, looking at his occasionally poutin

Flashback Ember Derek plopped on the chair sighing heavily, I put my textbook on the table then walked to the kitchen only to come out some moments later with a glass of water. “Considerate huh?” he glanced at my face with a playful smile, “Thank you.” He said taking the water and drinking everything at once. “Stressful day?” I asked, staring at him as I picked up the textbook again. Now opening to the page I was reading earlier. “Yeah… just this friend at work,” My hands pause on one of the pages, “Was he fired?” I asked curiously. “No… he's the easy going kind of person, kind, gentle, diligent, punctual, until these days, he doesn't come to work, we called but it was always answered by his wife who sings the same thing that her husband is sick..” “Sorry about that.” “Yeah.. so today, we just took his address from his job profile and went to his home, you won't believe it, we were made known that he died.” Derek facepalmed himself, lowering it just below his face

Ember I stiffened as I felt the man come closer, even though every bones in my body was tensed up, on an alert to run anytime, to escape from the man coming closer, but I decided not to run. “I won't hurt you. Don't be afraid of me bunny.” he said coming to my side and brushing my hair from my face. Some of the people from the research institute were crawling away while most got into the vans driving away from the estate. "Thank you." I said to him. He nods, turning back to go inside the estate. I walked in after him and sat down on the red sofa, feeling my nerves calming down. My mind was preoccupied, the worries settled in, I exhaled thinking I should go back to the hotel, so I stood up with Kai and grabbed my bag. “Good bye guys, see you all tomorrow.” I greeted the workers, actually I wasn't very sure about seeing them tomorrow. “Good day.” They replied, while some nodded their heads. “Let's get back to the hotel baby.” I said in Kai's ear, smoothing out his shir

Ember“I thought you went home already, I didn't expect to see you here.” he said walking closer. I also didn't have the thought that I will be ending up here again, at least not tonight, I had hoped Kai and I will have some mother and son time tonight, having him eating what he would like to eat together, and playing before going to sleep, that was all I planned for that night, but now it was simply impossible.“Yes… the hotel were giving me a little problem, so I don't feel quite comfortable spending the night there, I'm really grateful for allowing me to spend the night here yesterday, but I'm afraid I have to request the same favor from you right now… please, can I stay here for a while?” I managed to get the words out, silently hoping he would not throw me off his house at this instance.I can't even bring myself to imagine that, because kai's temperature had drastically dropped, leaving me wondering, how long would this persist? Furthermore

Ember “I don't use the kitchen.” He leisurely answered my unasked question, leaning against the door. It was pretty obvious now that he didn't use the kitchen, but how long has he been living here despite having all these kitchen appliances and utensils, to never use them. And does he really live on those canned foods? How could… I dusted my hands and pointed to the freezer, “You only eat those?” “Yeah.” He simply replied, and from his curt tone, I understood he didn't want to talk about it, and I'm going to respect that. He walked away afterwards leaving me standing inside the kitchen, there was nothing like biscuits or anything Kai could eat tonight. I was yet to come up with what I'm going to make for him when I heard his footsteps coming towards the kitchen again. He was wearing black sweatshirt right now and a pair of gray male jo

Ember“Absolutely not.” I gave a weird smile, and quirky thumbs up. I watch him place the boy at the back seat gently, if not delicately as though he's going to break. Not wanting to disturb him, I quietly slipped into the front seat and he sat in the driver's seat. I was staring ahead, waiting for him to ignite the car, but he didn't, instead he was bending closer to my side making me stiffened, his gaze lingered on mine, his golden orbs, staring into my black ones as though searching me out.And his face moved closer, it was now a few inches away from my face, I wanted to shift my face elsewhere, but it was as if I was spellbound, I couldn't move a limb, it was just then I heard a click. The man withdrew and straightened his posture, mouthing with a slight grin, “Seatbelt, miss Flynn.” This teaser! I huffed and rolled my eyes, “As if you use one.” He merely shrugged, “I don't need one.” “So only I need one Mm?”“Yeah… I can risk my life, not yours miss Flynn” “It's Ember, you

MaverickI wasn't expecting Ember to agreed immediately, I was just teasing her like I always does, but having this tuned to a reality, I could only go along with it, she took a pack of five beers, while I carried the other as we made for the living room, does she even knows how mouthwatering she looked in this nightwear? I figured she'll be coming back, so I went to that same store and got more, and right now, I know I couldn't have done anything better. The nightwear shorts clung to her hips, accentuating her curves, and bringing into view her plump ass. She's the definition of a walking temptress, she just never knew.We agreed to sit in the bar area. I would have put her on higher terms like drinking tequila or whiskey, but I wanna see how well she's going to handle this beer. She was the first to open her beer, I was staring at her face but all I could read was determination, why was she so keen on getting rid of the beer? And to think she's doing this for me, I feel delighted i

Maverick“I'm different?” She raised her head up, asking with a broad smile on her lips, she retrieved both her elbows from the bar and held onto the bar to steady herself, I glanced at her, her cheeks were flushed red right now. Ember's different, she'd never know, but she's so different that I knew from the moment I set my eyes on her that night, she doesn't really know what she is, what she's capable of, and I believe It was also applicable to whomever she came across, seeing everyday, just not me. “Yeah, in a special kind of way.” I said opening the fifth bear and bringing the can to my lips, I raised my eyes to stare at her, she looked lost in thought for some moments.“Do you know you're weird right now?” she stated, with a straight face, which showed she really meant that I was weird.“Maybe” I chuckled.“Why did you take my beer? Not fair, you know?” She questioned with a frown after feeling the bar for any available canned beers, which obviously I did take.“You're drunk, y

EmberI stood there, heart racing, as Astrid appeared in the doorway. The moment she saw me, her brow furrowed, a frown settling across her face. She clutched her round belly as if it could shield her from whatever she was feeling. There was a tension in the air, with a mix of worry and something else I couldn't quite decipher at that moment.Astrid’s hand paused on the door, ready to slam it shut, but I stepped in her way. Her glare could have burned a hole through me.“What are you doing here?” she shot back.“I’m not here because I want to be,” I said, keeping my voice calm. “If I’d known it was your place, I would’ve turned around. But since I’m here, I need answers. What happened four years ago?”The silence between us was heavy with unspoken words. I could see the conflict in her eyes—anger mixed with something deeper. However I wasn’t about to back down; I needed to know, I didn't came all the way here to be slammed the door upon on, all my prejudice against her was temporarily

EmberI threw two dresses into the mini box, grabbed a few necessities, and finally took my spare toothbrush, just in case. After zipping it up, I carried it out. Lyra was solemnly wiping Kai's body with a wet towel. I exhaled. I can't back away now—I have to go. I walked up to his side and crouched next to him. “Mommy, is that you?” His little fingers landed on my cheeks, and with all my strength, I pressed back my sobs, whispering in a broken voice, “Yes, baby, it's your mommy.” “Lyra said you're going to be back soon.” He took a short pause, blinking rapidly as he stared at my face before eventually asking, “Are you leaving me alone?” “No, baby, I would never do that. The thing is, Mommy has to get you chocolates, a bunch of them.” “I… don’t want chocolates. I only want Mommy.” Streaks of tears ran down my face, and this time I didn’t wipe them off. Instead, I let them flow freely. “I’m sorry, baby… Mommy is really sorry you're going through this. You know what? Mommy

EmberI kept staring at the letter with wide eyed, confused; first I had know idea how this got here, secondly how the heck did the person knew that I wants answers, answers to everything, the gut feeling is gnawing on me, yet I always finds a make believe to rid that thought, just like this letter stated that I wanted answers. But what answers would I probably want? What answers do I really seek? Why can't I say it, why don't I know it. I stared at the address which clearly reads a house in Arizona. Do I really want to do this? Honestly, I have no idea, whatever this is, whatever will come from it, but I folded it and put it back going out of the room to the yard. For some peace and quiet, maybe I could fatten my thoughts and come up with a reasonable plan on how to help my son get better. And maybe I could even go back to Arizona, in contrast to the fact that the man had come all the way from Arizona to Florida to look for me, but since I pushed him away, he definitely must've go

EmberAfter Maverick was gone, I couldn't make sense of what's going on. I washed my face in the bathroom, swinging back my hair to get off the water that drenched it, eventually grabbing a towel and wrapped it around my head like a burrito. Exhaling, I walked out of my room to check Lyra's door which was still very much locked, thus has been on lock since the moment she stormed out of my face in the sitting room.I walked into the sitting room to touch Kai's forehead, he was still burning up, but not as hot as he was when I'd come back. He wasn't supposed to get sick again since Lyra got him the herbs that had kept his condition stabilized since we came back to Florida, so I never have to bother about looking for the man, however hearing the news earlier was not only a blow to me, but it makes me even more panicked. And thankfully, having him around for a few seconds reduces the boy's temperature, however, now I can't really tell for sure because he's a little hot now doesn't mean

MaverickI had planned tonight to be very colourful and bright so Ember could enjoy it as much as she wants, after having Alex scout around for one of the biggest and beautiful beach around here I had shut down the whole place so we can have all the time— Alone, and I was glad she really came looking stunning in her dress.I had made sure to also reserve the top floor of the restaurant on the island where I hoped we'll spend the night, but she was so curious to know what I have in store, however I was determined to not share it with her.We got off the yacht and made for the building, however her phone rang, but just after the call ended she was trembling. Her face turned so pale that I had to calm her down. She wanted me to follow her, which I did without a second thought. The sound of that boy going sick affected me so much that I yelled at the sailor to get the Yacht moving again. When we got out of the car, I was really surprised to see the familiar environment we're in. Why would

Ember. I glanced back, he caught me staring at the distance and his cold hand grabbed my chin bringing my face to him. “It'll come back.” he casually replied, “Or do you want it back now? Are you feeling cold?” “I'm fine.” I answered rolling my eyes. He was now back to my side. “Okay, when it comes back, we should probably go to the next surprise.” he said, and i understand how awkward this was for him as much as it is for me. “Oh, that…” I trailed off as the heat flushed my face, remembering what we're on to a while ago before the thing about him and Alexandra, “Yeah… other surprises,” I replied non enthusiastically fisting my hair and squeezing out the water that had drenched it. “Are you sure you're not cold?” He asked again drawing closer. “Not yet.” I answered pushing back a little but I underestimated the man as he swiftly followed grabbing my waist, his palm flew to examine my forehead, “it's a good thing you're not catching a cold yet.” “I told you I'm not

EmberWe're staring at each other's faces as though we're in a competition. I thought he was going to say something but he didn't; he just kept staring.Biting my lips, “Do you have a sibling or... ?” I gulped the remaining question down my throat, considering the facts that I never saw him with anyone except Alex. “Only child.” he shrugged so casually. “Don't even ask about the parents... they're no more.”“Oh...” I muttered trailing off, suddenly feeling bad for probing at his wounds. “I shouldn't have asked.”“i said I'm ready to answer your questions didn't I? So go ahead ask any questions and I'll answer.”I searched his face for any traces of lies but found nothing so I licked my lips and asked, “The other day at the rooftop what are you trying to say about Alexandra?”He thought for a while before smacking his lips, “Are you sure you would like to hear that?” he asked again, making me want to know more about why he seemed so hesitant when he'd been the one to bait me in the fi

Ember “So… now that the yacht’s gone, what are we supposed to do?” I asked, glancing around at the wide-open water stretching as far as I could see. “Wait for it, I guess,” he replied, way too casually. “Probably just ran low on gas.” I narrowed my eyes, noting the way he smirked ever so slightly. “Is this some kind of setup? Was this your big surprise?” He chuckled, shaking his head. “Not at all. This was definitely not part of the plan. But look—it’ll come back. We just have to wait.” I shifted uneasily, trying to mask my growing anxiety with humor. “What if we end up living out some kind of real-life Jaws nightmare?” He raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. “Seriously? You’re a werewolf—you’re supposed to be the one scaring off predators.” I rolled my eyes, smirking back. “Yeah, well, if wolves can eat fish, why shouldn’t a shark be able to enjoy some wolf?” He let out a soft laugh, sweeping his dripping hair back. “You’re something else.” I swallowed, glancing back a

I was expecting to see Yatch or cruise ships moving around but none, I had noticed at the beach that there were lesser people compared to how crowded beach used to. “The whole place is ours for today, and don't tell me you're dunking your legs in the water in that?” He pointed to my dress.I stared down embarrassed to look at my flowing black gown, I laughed awkwardly, “I will be changing that.” I never thought about that sincerely.“You should, there's a lot to choose from in the first se
