6 Mrs. Amelia's Anger

Meanwhile, Mrs. Amelia was happy because she would be able to see her grandchild before leaving the earth. But she wasn't aware that her son-in-law had divorced her daughter.

“C-can I see her, please?” she pleaded with a smile curving her lips.

“Sure, why not?” Dr. Derrick said,“ But she isn't awake.” he added before leading Mrs. Amelia inside the ward.

Mrs. Amelia's smile never disappeared as she gestured towards her pregnant daughter, who was laying on the hospital bed.

She stood above Hailey and gazed at her with continued smiles. Mrs. Amelia was delighted with the good news, which she was sure that Hailey wasn't aware about.

“When will she wake up?” she curiously asked the doctor.

“Hmm… A few minutes from now. So, I guess you should have a seat before she recovers.” Dr. Derrick responded with a calm voice, and Mrs. Amelia nodded in obedience.

She was offered a seat by a nurse who was asked by Dr. Derrick to look after Hailey.

After Mrs. Amelia sat down on the chair, Dr. Derrick smiled at her before he turned around to leave.

Just as he held the doorknob, the nurse called for his attention. “ Doctor, she's awake.”

“Oh, wow.” Dr. Derrick gasped and turned around.

He gestured towards Hailey, who was fighting hard to open her eyes to adjust to the bright light hanging on the ceiling.

Hailey's head was itching, and she couldn't tell what was happening to her. Amidst trying to open her eyes, what happened that morning flashed through her mind, which made her frown her face with her eyes still shut.

Upon seeing this, Mrs. Amelia stood up and walked up to the bed where Hailey was lying.

“Mrs. Hailey,” Dr. Derrick's calm voice echoed in Hailey's ears, which made her quickly open her eyes without minding the bright light on the ceiling.

As soon as Hailey set eyes on Dr. Derrick, she quivered, and everyone present there noticed it.

The best thing Dr. Derrick did was smile at her without uttering a word.

“What happened? And what am I doing here?” Hailey fearfully inquired because she was yet to see her mom.

Just after she shut her mouth, Mrs. Amelia stepped closer and took Hailey by the hand, and kissed her knuckles.

“You have nothing to worry about, my beloved daughter. You slumped, and we rushed you down here, and it's confirmed that nothing is wrong with you.” her Mom assured her with a smile.

“Yes, Hailey. Nothing is wrong with you.” Dr. Derrick concurred with Mrs. Amelia.

“Derrick?” Hailey muttered in shock as she lowered her gaze to him. She couldn't believe her eyes.

“Yes, this is me, Hailey.” Dr. Derrick chuckled after saying that.

Dr. Derrick was Hailey's boyfriend before she met Williams. He was so much in love with her that he promised to marry her when he achieved his goal as a doctor.

But as fate has it, their love for each other died along the way because of Williams.

She never thought she would see Derrick again.

Only God knows how Dr. Derrick bitterly wept when Hailey broke up with him to settle with Williams, an orphan.

Now, he has achieved his goal and he is now a professional doctor. Shockingly, he is the one treating his ex-girlfriend after three years of not seeing each other.

“Ohh… so, you guys know each other?” Mrs. Amelia curiously inquired.

“Well, yes, but…” Dr. Derrick attempted to say more words but Hailey cut in.

“He is an old-school friend, mom. We were classmates.” She briefly explained to avoid Dr. Derrick exposing her as his ex-girlfriend.

The young man chuckled and lowered his gaze to the ground with his hands akimbo. He sighed heavily before nodding in acceptance of what Hailey said.

“Anyway,” Dr. Derrick started. “ I have something important to tell you, Hailey.”

“What is it, Derrick?” she angrily asked, thinking that he was trying to remind her of their failed relationship.

“Hey, don't be too harsh, Hailey.” her Mom warned and gently rubbed her thumb finger against Hailey's hand.

Dr. Derrick ignored the tone of her words and went ahead to speak.

“Congratulations, ma'am. You're pregnant.” Dr. Derrick announced with a smile curving his lips.

“What!” Hailey's eyes widened in shock. “ My husband and I just got divorced.”

“Huh?” Mrs. Amelia was stunned to hear that. “ I take that as a joke, Hailey. What do you mean by that? I don't think I heard you well.”

“What you heard is what I said, Mom,” Hailey smirked.

However, Dr. Derrick was still trying to digest what Hailey said earlier. He was lost if he should laugh at her or be happy that their relationship would continue despite her pregnancy.

“How dare he do that? Is he insane? After everything you have done for him, and he paid you back in this way?” Mrs. Amelia was enraged as her eyes turned red.

“It's okay, Mom. Our marriage is over; therefore, you just have to let go of everything,” said Hailey with a sad face.

“I blame no one, but you, Hailey. You cheaply offered yourself to him, even though it was written all over his face that he didn't want you. Have you seen what you caused to yourself, huh? How do you think your father would react to this, Hailey?”

Mrs. Amelia scolded Hailey until she began shedding bitter tears.

“Mom, you don't have to scold her this much. I believe that she also regrets her decision. You should be glad that the young man in question didn't harm her before kicking her out of the house.”

Dr. Derrick comforted Mrs. Amelia, who was fuming in anger.

It was as if Hailey's husband should appear at that moment, so she can punch him for divorcing her daughter, who abandoned humble young men out there to settle with a wicked man like him.

“This boy is heartless,” Mrs. Amelia spat out angrily. “ Who does he want to take care of his unborn child?”

Upon hearing this, Dr. Derrick folded his arms above his chest and stared at Mrs. Amelia with skeptical brows.

“I would take care of the innocent unborn child and the mother if only you would permit it.” Dr. Derrick announced with a serious face.

“What!” Hailey frowned at Dr. Derrick as she ignored the pain in her heart that was caused by Williams.

“You want to do what?” Mrs. Amelia asked as if she didn't hear what he said.

“Ma'am, I'm ready to take Hailey as my wife if she accepts it,” he confessed.
