"I'm leaving," Wynter said from the dining room.

"Sure, don't be long today, and please return soon," Sabrina said. She, too, was preparing to go to work.

"Bye, Daddy," she said as she kissed Travis on the cheek and exited.

She had been ecstatic from the moment she awoke. She assumed her hormones were causing her problems. again.

"Hush, Wynter, it's not like he's going to eat you alive or something, and stop being dumb," she chided herself before exiting the vehicle.

"Let's go, don't appear strange," she said to herself as she stepped out of her car.

"Good morning, Tessa," she said as soon as she walked into her room, where Tessa was setting up her table.

There was still one hour before the hospital opened to visitors and patients, and Wynter had a practice of doing rounds on all the dogs kept under surveillance.

"Good morning, Wynter," she said, smiling.

"Are there any casualties?" Wynter queried whether it was Ethan's department to investigate, but since he was o

Shadrach asked."Yes, we are," Wynter replied, nodding."Okay, Bella, I think we have a new vet for you, and I guess we’ll be seeing her a lot," Shadrach murmured, gently caressing the pet's fur as he heard Wynter giggle."What happened?" Shadrach inquired."That's Ellias, the one whose fur you're petting," Wynter explained."Oh," Shadrach said, withdrawing his hand."Bella is sitting comfortably by my side," Wynter continued. "That's my chow-chow. It's not your fault; he’s about the same size as Bella, right, Elli?" Ellias woofed in response to Wynter's question."Got it!" Shadrach laughed. "Unlike my Bella, he seems really nice," he remarked, stroking Ellias' fur."That he is," Wynter said as she stood up. But before she could say anything else, there was a knock at the door. "Yes, please come in," she called.Tessa walked in just as Wynter approached her seat. "Patients are waiting for you, Wynter. I just came in to see if you needed anything," Tess

She blinked a few times, still nestled in her bed.“Please leave me alone, Harris. I need more sleep, and I’m not in the mood for an argument,” Wynter moaned.“How about your work?” Harris asked, lying down beside her.“It’s my hospital, and I can take a day off whenever I want,” Wynter replied, turning away and covering her face from him. Just then, Sabrina walked in and overheard their entire exchange.“Wynter, you never take a day off. What’s going on?” Harris asked concern etched on his face as he noticed his sister didn’t seem well.Sabrina gave him a stern look. “Leave her alone,” she urged, waving for Harris to step away, cutting him off once again.“All right,” Harris relented as he got out of bed.Sabrina sat down next to Wynter, tenderly caressing her hair. “Do you have anything you’d like to discuss?” she asked gently.“No, Mama Iris, I just don’t fe

"I suppose you know who I am," Wynter said."Yeah, I absolutely recall," Shadrach said, a boyish smile on his face. "I presume you're taking the day off, Dr. Grizelle?" Shadrach asked."No, I just felt like bunking today and bringing My Boy for a stroll, you know it's been a while since he's been here," Wynter said."Same with Bella, but I bring her here every day, and it's also like a break for me to come in open, which I seldom do," Shadrach stated again, tucking his hands in his pants pocket."Oh!" Wynter exclaimed, her back aching from standing for so long. "Can we sit someplace on a seat nearby and gaze at our dogs from there?" Wynter asked. She needed to protect her back, particularly since the doctor had advised her to be careful."Please forgive me for leaving the woman standing for so long." 15. Someone From PastShadrach scanned his thumb over the apartment door, and the machine beeped, granting him access. He released Bella’s leash, and she immediately began barking furiously, alerting Shadrach to the presence of an intruder in the house. Cautiously, he positioned himself near a vase, noticing a rod left by the maid during her cleaning. He picked it up, ready to defend himself, before stepping outside and hearing laughter. It was a voice he recognized.“Yeah, I’ve come to meet a friend of mine,” the voice said over the phone.“Harry!” Shadrach exclaimed, dropping the rod.Bella sensed that Shadrach knew the person and returned to her spot on the sofa.“Okay, I’ll call you later,” Harry said, hanging up. “Oh! 16. Shadrach's Past When Wynter asked Shadrach about how he lost his sight and if he wanted to discuss it, he could have easily shrugged it off. However, for the very first time, he felt tired of holding everything within him. He wanted to let go of the burden that was weighing on his shoulders. Though he was certain that he couldn't tell Wynter everything, he could at least share a part of it with her. This way, he could start opening up to others, just as his doctors had advised.Seeing Shadrach lost in his thoughts, Wynter began to regret bringing up the topic. Perhaps it had triggered something he didn't want to mention, or maybe he was struggling to find the right words to express his emotions, fearing that it might scare her away. She took a deep breath and glanced at their hands, resting on the bench by their sides. Approaching gently, Wynter reached out for his hands. Shadrach flinched initially but soon relaxed upon realizing it was Wynter.Wynter started, "Shadrach, if you d

    17. Wynter's TaleAs promised, the two arrived at the park the next day, bringing Ellias and Bella along. Unlike the previous day, where Shadrach was the first to arrive and wait for Wynter, today Wynter finished her work quickly and arrived a little earlier than Shadrach. They left Bella and Eli to play on their own and settled on their benches."I apologize for leaving early yesterday," Wynter said, expressing her regret."Oh, there's no need to apologize. When we have conversations, we should consider the time, and continuing the discussion the next day gives us another reason to see each other," Shadrach pointed out."You're right," Wynter giggled. "But you asked me something yesterday that I didn't have time to reply to." She explained her point to Shadrach.Shadrach explained that he had asked Wynter if she had experienced something similar to his own. 18. Bonds and ResponsibilitiesThe next day, Wynter was preparing to go to her clinic when, once again, her little brother interrupted her."Wyn Wyn, are you going to the clinic today?" Hunter pouted at Wynter. It was the start of his vacation, and the King family had yet to decide on their annual family vacation. Normally, they would plan it according to everyone's schedules and go somewhere secluded to spend quality time together. However, it had only been a week since Hunter's vacation began, and he was already bored staying home alone."Yes, sweetie," Wynter replied, sitting down to be at eye level with him. "Why do you look sad, munchkin?"Hunter puckered his lips, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. "Wyn Wyn, I'm bored. Nobody is home, everyone is busy. Nobody cares about me. Nobody loves me," he explained, his voice breaking. Hunter tended to stumble over his words when he was emotional, although his speech was usually very clear.Wynter reassured him, "Not at all, baby. The thought of losing my son sent a wave of anxiety crashing over me. Still, I steeled myself. I was confident—no matter what, I would fight with every fiber of my being to ensure Storm stayed with me.Sean had no right to interfere. He made his choice long ago when he wanted nothing to do with my pregnancy. I had informed him the moment I found out, but he had cruelly suggested termination. It was my decision to raise Storm as a single mother, and that alone would weigh heavily in my favor in court. But I couldn’t be naïve. If Sean was bold enough to take this to court, he must have something up his sleeve. My phone rang, pulling me out of my spiraling thoughts. For a moment, I froze, fearing it might be Sean. But relief flooded through me when I saw Shadrach’s name flash on the screen.“Hey,” I answered,

    55. Another Chance Of RedemptionAs promised, Wynter was willing to give Shadrach a chance to redeem himself for all the wrong he had done to her. He respected her wish to keep her distance, but that didn’t stop him from visiting the park every day. He sat on the same bench where they had spent countless moments years ago, hoping with all his heart that Wynter would show up.A week passed in this quiet anticipation, but Wynter didn’t come. Though disappointment weighed heavily on him, Shadrach refused to lose hope. He had made a promise to himself: no matter how long it took—be it a year or a decade—he would wait for her every single day.Today, like every other day, Shadrach sat alone on the bench. The only difference was that, in the past, Bella had been by his side, wagging her tail and keeping him company. Now, he was completely alone. Memories of happier times filled his mind as he stared at the empty park, wishing desperately for those days to return.Lost in thought, Shadrach w

    54. Clarity Wynter's POVI could see that Shadrach was a little taken aback by my unusually sweet demeanor, but I was simply following through with my decision to hear him out. I couldn't very well do that while he was standing there, so I motioned for him to come inside."Thanks," he nodded, stepping in and taking a seat on the sofa. He placed the toys he had brought for Storm on the side, perhaps a way of easing the tension between us.I wanted to tell him that he didn’t have to buy Storm anything, but I held my tongue. This might just be his way of showing he cared."Dad!" Storm came running toward us, his towel wrapped tightly around him."Storm, you didn’t change yet?" I quickly moved to stop him, but he was faster than me, jumping right into Shadrach’s arms."Hey, champ," Shadrach smiled, catching him effortlessly."Let him change first," I rolled my eyes, though a small smile tugged at my lips."It’s okay. He looks cute in a towel," Shadrach shrugged, planting a quick kiss on

    53. Dilemma Wynter's POVI was still deeply moved by the words Mama Iris had shared with me, but I wasn’t sure what was right or wrong anymore. Storm’s voice broke through my thoughts, and I looked up to find him standing in front of me.Now it was just me and Storm in the house. Ellie was with Hunter, and Mama Iris... well, I felt alone, and it made the overthinking worse."Yes, cupcake?" I asked, lifting him into my arms.Storm had been insisting on going to Mama Iris' house, but I’d had to emotionally blackmail him into staying here."Mommy, why are you worried? Did I do something?" He asked, his big eyes full of concern."No, sweetheart, Mommy was just thinking about work. I’m not worried about anything, alright?" If she wasn't, I'd be so disappointed in myself for not recognizing her.I stood there, taking in the sight of her. She was exactly how I had pictured her, even more stunning in person. My heart was telling me to go hug her tight, to pour out all my emotions, but my joy turned to concern when I saw a man next to her. I thought, Maybe that's her friend Ethan she mentioned. But something felt off.
