I stood watching him leave, completely thrown off by him. When I had first met him, he had nearly undressed me the first chance he got. And now he was asking if I wanted a drink? Men were fickle things.
I wandered back into the condo and looked around the room. Various landscape photos hung on the wall. There was a bookshelf near the large screen television and I walked over, my fingers skimming over several classic books. I noticed a guitar sitting in a stand over in the corner and strolled over to it. I gently traced my fingers over the strings just as Alaric returned to the room. I turned around toward him as he walked in with two water bottles.
“I got one for me, too,” he explained as he held one out to me.
“Do you play?” I asked as I took the water bottle. “And thank you.”
“Yes” he replied as he opened his and took a long drink. “And you’re welcome.”
I grinned at him as I opened my water bottle. “Will you play something for me?”
He hesitated and I noticed something flicker across his handsome face. Pain? Anger? “I know how to play” he clarified very slowly in his British accent. “I don’t play it anymore, though.”
I looked between him and the guitar as I took a drink. “Why not?”
He closed his water bottle and set it down on the floor. “I don’t really want to talk about that, if you don’t mind.”
“Sure,” I quickly replied. “Of course not. We don’t have to talk about anything if you don’t want to.”
He sat down on the edge of the bed as he nodded his head and looked down at his feet. A sadness seemed to engulf him and it tugged at my heart.
I moved toward him, doing the only thing I knew to do. I dropped to my knees in front of him and unbuttoned his pants. He didn’t stop me this time.
I reached into his pants, pulling his manhood out as he grew in my hand. I took him into my mouth as he made vocal his pleasure. After several minutes, he gently wrapped his fingers around my arm and pulled me up.
I smiled, in the zone of my job as I lifted my shirt over my head and seductively dropped it to the floor. I held my eyes on him as I took the rest of my clothes off. I stood naked before him, excitement and desire racing through my body. I had never felt this way before while performing my job. It was simply an act with other men. Putting on a show and doing my job. I would detach and feel nothing. But with Alaric, I felt everything, and I wanted to feel even more.
I pulled his shirt over his head, then pulled his pants and boxers off. I gently pressed his shoulders backwards, lying him on his back in bed.
“Do you have protection?” I asked softly.
He nodded and pointed toward the bedside table. I pulled open the top drawer and quickly grabbed a condom from the box. I put it on his manhood before climbing atop him and taking him all inside me. My heart pounded as he filled every inch of me.
I leaned forward, kissing him deeply as he cupped my breast and moved within me. We were two people, joined for this short, miraculous time. My entire body responded and came alive for him and, based upon his response, he felt the same way.
He wrapped his arms around me, rolling us over while we were still joined together. He took the lead and went fast and hard as I cried out his name and ran my fingers through his dark, wavy curls.
He smiled, relishing hearing his name from my lips as he leaned down and kissed the crook of my neck as he found his pleasure and collapsed beside me on the bed.
I laid beside him, both of us catching our breath before I slowly started to sit up.
“Stay,” he said as his hand grabbed mine.
“Please, stay a while. You don’t have to rush out.”
I slowly laid back down beside him. He slid his arm beneath my head and I relished in this absolute serene moment. If only it was real and I wasn’t being paid to be here.
“Are you busy this weekend?”
I slowly rolled toward him, my heart beginning to pound in anticipation. Was he asking me on a real date? Or was he interested in another romp in the sack? “Not really. Why?”
He turned his head toward me, his green eyes studying me. “I want to spend a day with you.”
“Like a whole day?”
He grinned, a playful, lovable, heart-melting grin. “Yeah, an entire day. Sunrise to sunset.”
I opened my mouth to answer. He wanted a date. An actual date!
“How much would that cost?” he said before I had a chance to respond.
My heart dropped all the way down to my toes. It wasn’t a date. It was a business transaction. Of course it was. He didn’t want a relationship with me. I wasn’t worth that to him. How could he ever want someone like me? He was gloriously handsome and obviously well-off.
I needed to end this. My feelings were getting out of control for him. I needed to cut this out before my heart got hurt even worse. “A thousand” I threw the number out, knowing no one in their right mind would ever pay that.
His eyes studied me a moment before he spoke. “Okay” he said softly. “Done.”
I stared speechless at him as I quickly sat up. “You’re serious? You’re going to pay me a thousand dollars to spend the day with you?”
He slid his hand beneath his head, his hair messy upon the pillow, as he smiled at me as though I had said something funny. His dimples punctured his cheeks as he laughed lightly. “Yeah. Why?”
I shook my head slightly as my head spun. There was so much I could do with that money. We could easily pay ahead on rent, and utility bills. I could start putting money away for a car of my own. We could start a savings account!
Without thinking, I leaned down and kissed him good and hard on the lips. I pulled back, elated and giddy.
“Thank you!” I squealed as I leaned back down and hugged him.
I could feel his chest rattle with his laugher. “I’m taking that as a yes.”
“Yes!” I laughed as I sat back up. “Yes! Yes!”
He smiled naughtily at me. “Hopefully you’ll be yelling that a lot Saturday.”
Heat rose to my cheeks as I laughed lightly. I heard my phone’s ringtone and it broke the magical moment that had settled over us. I quickly jumped from the bed and grabbed my phone, silencing the call from Ace. Crap! Ace! Would he be angry at what I had just done? What about what I had just agreed upon? It didn’t matter, we could pay rent. We wouldn’t be homeless!
“I need to go,” I explained as I began to get dressed. “I need to go pay my rent. It’s due and I have to get it paid before our landlord kicks us to the curb.”
Alaric sat in bed, watching me with an amused look. “I need to pay you first.”
I froze buttoning my shorts. “Right. I can’t pay it without that.” I laughed lightly at my own stupidity as he rose naked from the bed and walked over to his pants to grab his wallet.
My eyes locked onto his nude and perfect body. My goodness was he handsome and absolutely perfect in every single imaginable way.
He walked over to me and held out the cash, his nude body standing proudly before me with no shame whatsoever.
“Thank you,” I said softly as I took the money.
He smiled slightly at me, his green eyes dancing lightly over me as he spoke to me in his delish British accent. “I think I need to drive you home, unless you’re going to walk.”
I burst out laughing like a crazy person. How could I have forgotten that? “Would you mind?” I asked as I got my outburst under control.
“Not at all,” he smiled at me as he grabbed his shirt and put it back on.
He took my hand into his as he led me back down the stairs and out of his condo. He was so perfect and such a gentleman as he opened the sports car door for me.
I gave him directions to my apartment and, after he parked, he again insisted on opening my door. I stepped out of the sports car and faced him as he closed the door. He looked at me, shoving his hands into his pockets as his eyes wandered over me.
“I’ll see you on Saturday?”
I nodded as he gave me a quick flash of a smile before walking back around the sports car and leaving.
I watched him drive off before I walked over to my apartment. I opened the door and found Ace sitting on the futon.
“Where have you been?” he asked.
I opened my mouth to answer him, but suddenly lost my nerve. “I picked up an extra shift and worked late. I made good tips though and made enough to pay rent.”
I pulled the money from my pocket and his face lit up. He hurried over to me and whisked me up into his arms and spun me around. He brought me back to the ground and gave me a long, hard kiss.
“You are the best girlfriend ever,” he declared with a smile.
I forced a smile onto my face as I felt like the biggest traitor in the entire world.
“Hey”I drew out nervously as I laid in Ace arms in our bed. He turned toward me; his eyes droopy with sleep. His dark hair was messy and curly atop his head making him look rather adorable. “Is it okay if I go dress shopping with Catherine on Saturday?” I had decided the lie would be better than the truth. It shouldn’t matter that I was meeting a client on Saturday. I knew Ace would be thrilled with the news of the payday, and he was the one who initially hooked me up with Alaric. But there was something about the rendezvous that felt wrong. It felt dirty; like I was somehow cheating on Ace to take Alaric as a client. I knew exactly why, though I would never admit it out loud. I had feelings for him, feelings I shouldn’t have. Ace grinned lightly at me, fatigue showing across his face. “Why does she need to go dress shopping?” I mentally smacked myself on the forehead. “Fred proposed! They’re getting married.” “Really?” he remarked in surprise. “What’s so surprising about that?”
After breakfast, we drove to Sammy’s Skydiving. I stared with unease at the tiny building, but Alaric assured me it was completely safe. He held my hand and led me into the building with confidence. Sammy himself greeted us enthusiastically as he spoke to Alaric about the current, perfect conditions for a jump and heights and equipment I had never head of. My hand tightened on Alaric’s as my nerves began to mount within me. He glanced at me occasionally, giving me a reassuring smile and my hand a gentle squeeze. “This is my friend, Stella.” Alaric glanced at me as he introduced me. “This is Samuel. He’s the best skydiver around.” Samuel chuckled as he shook my hand. “Its nice to meet you, Stella.” “She’s a little nervous,” Alaric drew out slowly in his accent. “No worries,” Samuel said reassuringly. “We’ve already had an accident this morning so we aren’t due for another for” his face scrunched as he thought, “probably a couple days.” My jaw dropped in horror as they both broke ou
We went back to Sammy’s Skydiving. We took off all the equipment and the jumpsuits and left in Alaric’s sports car. We drove in silence with the windows down, both of us seeming to reflect on the amazing experience we had just participated in. Alaric drove us to his condo and parked. He opened my door for me as he led me into his home. I excused myself to the restroom as he began rummaging around the kitchen talking about burgers and grilling. I returned to find the condo empty and noticed the sliding glass doors off the kitchen slightly a jar. I headed toward them and found Alaric standing outside in front of the grill. I cautiously stepped out onto the stone patio. A large, built-in grill was surrounded by tan and light brown bricks with a beautiful countertop. It made a large L shape and had a dark, wooden canopy over it. Across from it was an oversized umbrella with four patio chairs made of a dark wicker with light brown cushions beneath. Matching ottomans sat in front of each
We sat out on the patio beneath the Florida sunshine and ate our burgers with some fruit he had grabbed from the fridge. We talked about much lighter topics of favorite movies, sports, and foods. “Favorite song?” he asked as he took a large bite of his burger. “Easy” I replied as I lounged in the patio chair with my feet up on the ottoman. “Everything I Do, I Do It For You by Bryan Adams.” He looked at me in shock. “Really?’ “Yep,” I assured him with a confident nod. “Nothing will ever beat it. I used to listen to that song over and over again in my room and write every single lyric out. I was obsessed with it.” He chuckled as he took a drink of his soda. “Care to explain why?” I shrugged. “It was the first glimpse for me that love like that could exist. That a man could love a woman so immensely and … “ I trailed off as I froze, the Florida sunshine suddenly unable to touch the freezing chill inside me. I slowly shook my head, realizing I was on the brink of revealing too much.
Ace was in an exceptionally good mood the next morning and it was contagious. He kissed me as he danced with me in our small kitchen. I was dying to tell him how much money I had made. I wanted to break open a bottle of champagne and celebrate with him. But I only wanted to share it with this Ace. I didn’t want drug addicted Ace to know about the money I had made, or where it was hidden. Ace drove me to work my lunch shift at Kiki’s. I nearly skipped into the restaurant in my joy. I was finally hitting a good streak in my life. I had an amazing client, who maybe saw me as more. It was possible, right? He did want to spend an entire day with me. He wouldn’t have done that if he didn’t truly like me. He would have just had the quick roll in the sack and went on his way like the other men did. And Ace was currently sober. I hoped with all my might it would stay that way. We couldn’t do down the dark path of his drug abuse again. Perhaps I should use the money Alaric had given me to pay
The bass pounded loudly from the speakers in the large room where the engagement party was being held. It was packed full of all of Catherine’s and Fred’s family and friends, which seemed to be half the state of Florida. It was an interesting mix of Fred’s accountant friends and upper-class family and Catherine’s former co-workers at Blue Hades and her current co-workers at her receptionist job. There was a large dance floor which was constantly full. Ace had taken me out to dance to a few songs, but had since disappeared. Large, rectangular tables sprawled across the half of the room which was not occupied by the dance floor. I sat at one of them, sipping on sparkling water when Catherine approached. “You can’t look glum at my party,” she drawled out in her Southern accent. “It’s going to be bring the entire party down and Lord knows I can’t have that.” I chuckled at her as she sat down beside me and threw her arm around my shoulders. “I’m just resting my feet. These heels are kill
“You gotta be fucking kidding me,” Ace remarked as I dropped my eyes downward. I was completely and totally ashamed of what had occurred and what Alaric was now witnessing. “What happened?” Alaric asked in his British accent. His voice sounded restrained with anger. “She was clumsy as usual and hit her head,” Ace drew out as he pressed the napkin harder against my head. I winced at the pressure. “Is that what happened?” Alaric asked gently. I lifted my eyes back up and my heart fluttered as he was crouched down, inches away from me. His concerned green eyes bore into my inner soul and I struggled harder than I ever have with the lie. “What the hell, man,” Ace said angrily beside me. “You don’t believe me?” “Yeah,” I whispered out. “That’s what happened. I tripped.” I could see the disappointment in Alaric’s eyes and it tore at my heart. “Let’s take a look,” he instructed as he slowly raised his hand toward my face. He pushed Ace hand away as he reached into a bag behind him. He
Ace didn’t come home that night. I slept alone in the apartment. I hide Alaric’s suit jacket in the back of my closet. I wanted to sleep in it, wrapped in his scent, but I didn’t want to risk Ace coming home and asking questions about it. Alaric came into Kiki’s while I was working the next day. I didn’t wait on his table and tried my best to avoid him. I did sneak some looks at him, and he caught me once. I quickly turned away and acted busy. Ace didn’t come home until Wednesday. He was there when I came home from work. He was sitting on the futon when I walked in. I slowly closed the door behind me as I looked at him. “Hi.” He quickly stood up and walked over to me. I watched in stunned horror as he dropped to his knees in front of me. He grabbed my hands, kissing them as he broke down in tears. ‘I’m so sorry Stella,” he wept as he laid his head in my hands. “I’m so sorry I hurt you again. I’m a fuck up and I know that. I don’t know why you stay here with me. I’m a piece of shit
One year later ... I drew in a long, slow breath to calm my nervous excitement as I lit the candle atop the chocolate cupcake I had secretly bought. I had made arrangements for it to be delivered while we were out sightseeing. Never in my wildest dreams had I ever imagined I would be in Hawaii, let alone be enjoying my honeymoon there. Alaric and I had said our vows on the beach just days ago, surrounded by our friends. Now, we were alone, just him and I to start our new life as husband and wife. He was my husband. Just the thought sent butterflies into flight in my stomach. We were married. He was mine forever. I closed my eyes as his vows whispered into my ears in his delicious British accent. He had stared at me with those gorgeous green eyes and declared his never-ending love for me. Somehow, I had managed to stay standing while I melted inside. I had opted out of a big wedding dress. Instead, I wore a knee-length white dress. It was sleeveless and cinched at the waist. It pu
Another month passed by as I forged forward with a life I had once only dreamt about with Alaric. I came home from working at the hospital on a random weekday and opened the condo door. I stepped inside and immediately noticed how eerily quiet the condo was. "Alaric?" I called out as I took a step forward. He was supposed to be off today. My stomach dropped as I wondered if he had been called in. "Alaric?" I took another step forward when something crunched beneath my foot. I lowered my eyes to the floor and looked quizzically at the rose beneath my shoe. I slowly bent down and picked it up. I inspected the red rose in my hand, wondering what on earth it was doing there, as my eyes gazed across the floor of the condo. My breath caught as my heart beat rapidly as I stared at the trail of red roses laid out before me. I trembled with an excited anticipation as I began to follow the trail, picking them up as I walked. I followed their path to the back patio door. I slid the door open
I slowly woke up the next morning, safe and loved in Alaric's strong arms. The sunlight streamed from the balcony doors as I snuggled closer to him. He laid on his back, snoring softly was he slept. His hair was splayed all around him on the pillow. I studied his sharp jawline and perfect, red lips. My eyes slowly trailed to his tattoos on his arms and chest. How had I been so lucky to have him in my life? What I had done so right to deserve him? After the hell of my youth and the struggles I went through before him, he was something I never imagined having. He was more than I ever thought I deserved. And yet here I was, cuddled in his arms in our bed enraptured by him and his love. He stirred and groggily opened his eyes to look at me. He smiled lightly as his green eyes found me. It was me he looked for as soon as he woke up, and it was me who made him smile. The realization warmed my soul. He rolled toward me, his lips quickly finding mine. His hand raised and cupped my face as h
I smiled and nodded my head. He raised his hands and gently wiped my tears away with his thumbs. He kissed my nose before taking a step back and pulling his shirt off. I stared at his bare chest. I slid my robe off and stepped into the hot water. I sat down as I watched Alaric undress. He stepped into the bath and sat down behind me. He pulled me back against him. I leaned into his chest, relaxing in the hot water and his secure embrace. We laid together, our bare bodies touching, as we relaxed but the sexual undercurrent between us made my heart pound. Alaric's fingertips traced up and down my bare arms beneath the hot water. He leaned his head forward and gently kissed my neck. I turned my head to the side, giving him better access as his fingers grazed higher up my arms and closer to my breasts. My breath caught as nerves pumped through my veins. I didn't want to be afraid of him, I didn't want to mess this up. My stomach meanwhile knotted into a tight knot of sexual energy. I bega
Alaric took a week off work to be home with me. He planned to take another, but I assured him I would be fine. He waited on me hand and foot. He acted as though I was a fragile, porcelain doll and handled me with excessive gentleness and care. His antics brought back my smile and laughter, and slowly began to erase the nightmares and flashbacks. He danced around with his goofy moves, and every time my mind seemed to start to drift to those dark days, he would tell one of his cheesy jokes to bring me back. He was my hero from my kidnapping, and my hero now. He saved me both physically and mentally and I could never repay him for what he had done for me. Despite his hovering care of me, he would only kiss me quickly on the lips. He would kiss my forehead, my hand, or even my cheeks for much longer, but never my lips. He also never made love to me or even tried. Of course, I wouldn't want to either with how I looked. The bruises seemed to darken each day, and I walked around with a hunc
Drake's body pressed down atop me, his weight pinning me down. He began biting at my neck between his slobbery kisses. "You're mine, Stephanie," he asserted in his monotone voice. "No!" I screamed as I began thrashing beneath him. His hands caught mine, trying to control them. His grip was surprisingly gentle, but as I swung at him, his hands wouldn't let go "You'll always be mine, Stephanie," he threatened as he unzipped my pants and prepared to take me against my will. "Stop!" I screamed, tears beginning to stream from my eyes. "Please stop!" My voice broke as I began sobbing. I yanked my hands back toward myself, breaking free from his grasp. As he lifted off me to undue his pants, I put my hands on his chest and tried to push him away. "Steph," he protested in a British accent. He tried to grab my hands but I ripped them away before he could try to restrain me again. I drew my right hand back and prepared to swing at him with an open hand. "Steph." His voice again had a Br
I was transported by ambulance to the emergency room. Alaric never left my side. He held my hand, his worried and upset green eyes staying on me the entire time. He was dressed in his black skinny jeans and a brownish-red button up shirt with gray squares and white lines. It was half unbuttoned, as usual for him. It was tucked partially in the front, exposing his brown belt. His brown hair fell wavy around his face beneath the tan fedora atop his head. The doctor and nurses checked me over and tended to my injuries. A couple police officers arrived, and Alaric left the room to speak with them a moment. The way they talked and greeted each other, it appeared they all knew each other. Alaric came back into the room moments later with them trailing behind him. He took my hand into his, giving it a squeeze as the officers walked over to me. "They just need you to tell them what happened" Alaric said gently in his British accent. "Do you feel up to that?" he asked as he gently brushed so
I sat silent as the miles flew by out my window. I watched the sun begin to set as I wondered if I would ever see Alaric again. Would I ever see his green eyes dance over me again? Would I ever feel his touch or kiss his lips? Ace remained as quiet as me. He changed the radio station occasionally, his eyebrows furrowing down until he found something good. He threw a jacket over my handcuffed wrist as we went through a drive-thru for food and told me to keep my head down to hide my injuries. We stopped at a hotel as the sun disappeared. He made me wait in the car as he checked in. I searched around the parking lot but there was no one else around to signal for help. He took the handcuffs off me and walked me in, gun in his pocket. Ace may have hurt me, but he didn't scare me the same way Drake did. Drake had no regard for my life. At least Ace had some resemblance of feelings for me, even if they were warped and misguided. I was able to take a shower, and Ace gave me one of his t-sh
I had nothing to do but wait. I stood for a while, but eventually got tired and sat down on the bed. The minutes ticked by, but I had no idea how many. There was no freaking clock in this dungeon. There was just me and my thoughts which were solely focused on Alaric. My entire being ached for him. Being back here, at Heaven's Reign Cult, brought back every horrible memory and beating. My body began to tremble and shake with the memories. I tried to hold them back, I tried to remain strong, but it was all too much. One moment I was walking down the street planning my future with Alaric, and the next I'm being dragged back forcibly to the life I never wanted to revisit. All I wanted was to go home. All I wanted was Alaric. The door opened and I shot to my feet. Drake walked in slowly and calmly. He closed the door behind him but didn't lock it. Apparently the lock was only used to keep people trapped in his sick room when he wasn't present. "Stephanie," he drew out slowly as he steppe
