Skylar's POV
Even the alarm system was disabled by itself, and I was sure I hadn't done that before leaving for school. Things felt confusing. I wanted to call mom or maybe even the police, but I stopped myself from doing any such thing. Not when dad was still in the hospital.
Both Chicken and I perked up in alarm the moment we heard the doorbell ringing. However, it was Chicken who was the first one to reach the door.
As if she even knew how to open it.
I didn't know why I had to think about it for few seconds before standing up and walking towards the
Skylar's POVWhen I woke up, Caden wasn't there.Everything was right where I had left it last night, even Chicken was still asleep. The only change around me was his absense –which for some reason was quite obvious– and for a second, it felt like he wasn't even here last night. As I gazed around the empty house, trying to rub off the sleep from my face, I saw that the wooden box was right where I had left it yesterday; in front of me at the table.I slumped back against the couch and rubbed my eyes this time.Well, there's that; trust. Caden could've taken that box with him, but h
Skylar's POVI tried my best to keep my calm while Alex drove to God knows where. The streets had started emptying up by now and the sky had completely darkened up. I was still clutching onto my seat and I was still panicking, my eyes darting from Alex's face to the windows. I was just trusting God at this point. After what felt like awfully long hours, he finally stopped his car. And when I looked outside in alarm, it took me a while to recognize where we were. "Where are we?" I almost cringed at the strain in my voice. I didn't want to be scared, I wanted Alex to tell me that this was fine; everything was fine."My house." He replied and failed to spare me a single glance. I noticed the emotionless expression on his face and that made the situation seem ten times worse. "Come on now."I watched him get out and close the doo
Skylar's POVAs much as I hated the thought of going to school the next day, I did go. Mainly because mom came over, dad too. And I didn't want to make things more awkward between us.So I took the bus again."Hey." I spoke up softly as I sat down beside Hanna. Mrs Jackson hadn't arrived yet and the classroom wasn't yet brimming with the usual morning chatters. During this time, I usually talked with Alex. But Alex wasn't here now; he didn't come to school today—at least that's what I wanted to believe."Hi." She replied, facing me with a small smile. It was the concerned look on her face that made me unable to speak, or do anything else. I just stuck with placing my textbook in front of me, avoiding her gaze, and waiting for her to speak up the obvious question."Did you s
Skylar's POV"Don't shout.""What?" I whispered when I felt the strange grip loosening around my wrist. "Caden?"I thought I had somehow been mistaken until he switched on the only light source in this small room; a dimly lit bulb on the ceiling. However, it was enough for me to make out his face."Do you enjoy scaring the living daylights out of me?" I asked him unbelievably. My heart was still hammering loudly in my chest, scared that it could've been anyone other than Caden. Why couldn't he have acted in a normal way and not drag me inside
Skylar's POVI got an A in my Physics test. All thanks to Blake, which I wasn't going to say out loud anytime soon. That guy was basically the reason why Alex had lied to me, the reason why Alex had betrayed my trust. On the other hand, I was beyond excited to tell my mother about it; my grade. This was something that I needed to tell her, at all costs. She needed to know that her daughter could most definitely get decent grades in Physics. But when I got back to my house after school, the atmosphere was a whole lot different than usual."There's a wedding happening." Mom looked extra busy in her work, Dad too."Wedding?" I let the foreign word roll off my tongue, tossing my bag on the couch and going over towards Mom, near the kitchen island.
Skylar's POVOnce Mom and Dad had left for the wedding, I spent the entire day watching movies with Chicken. And I kept on watching them until midnight. It was way past midnight by now; hours since my parents had left.Cole had been one of my childhood friends, back when we lived at our old house. His parents and my parents, they were like great friends—along with them being our neighbors too. The only problem was that I had a huge crush on him. And he considered me as his sister. It sucked, I know.Sitting on this couch, in my pajamas, was way more comfortable than seeing my old crush getting married. To my cousin, may I add.I couldn't believe that mostly. How come my freaking cousin ended up with him when it was
Skylar's POVWhen I woke up, I realized almost instantly that I couldn't move. Literally.I was beyond surprised to see myself completely pressed up against Caden, even though I perfectly remember falling asleep with a huge amount of distance between us. Caden had even promised me that he won't touch me—not that I made him promise. Like, I had no problem with him sleeping close to me.Geez.But this was totally different. One of his arms was tightly wrapped up around my waist, pulling my back flush against his chest. It was when I noticed that his face was nuzzled in the crook of my neck, that my heart started racing.I rubbed my eyes slowly, letting out a small yawn. I was a bit embarrassed, yes—mainly because I had never slept with anyone before. Not as close as this anyway. And I knew
Skylar's POVI pushed open the glass doors as I went inside the incredibly small shop. Like it was really small and suffocating. The moment I entered, I heard a bell chime above me, announcing my arrival to the completely empty shop.It was a typical antique store. Everything in here seemed to have something consisting glass pieces; mirrors. Real mirrors, glass pieces carved into giant vases, wind chimes made out of mirror shards. The shopkeeper must be into mirrors.I hadn't intended to come out here alone, not when Dad had told me how dangerous this was. But at the same time, I didn't find it in me to ask someone to come along with me. I could've asked Caden. But I hadn't."Hello, young lady. May I help you?" I heard a voice right behind me.
Skylar's POV "Where's Hanna?" Juliette asked, stopping by my locker and making an emphasis by raising her brows a bit too high. "And Alexander?"I never understood why she loved calling Alex by his full name. It seemed very formal for some reason."They skipped school to go on a morning date." I said –more like grumbled– as I pulled out my Calculus book. Her nose scrunched up ever so slightly before a snicker escaped her lips. Juliette had been one of the students from the foreign exchange program few months ago. What surprised me, though, was that she had chosen to be my friend, instead of just fitting in with the popular group—she definitely had those looks."And why do you sound so angry about that?" She asked, tw
Skylar's POVFuck. My head hurt. My throat hurt. My lungs hurt. My heart hurt. My limbs hurt. Every part of my body hurt.So bad.I would've groaned out loud in pain if only I had it in me to form any sort of sound from my mouth. I didn't even know how to move any part of my body.It took everything inside me to finally move my fingers. And then I opened my eyes, which at first was a bit hard, but my vision adjusted at the empty white ceiling eventually. After few more seconds, I finally managed to look around the strangely unfamiliar room. It was a hospital. And God, my head hurt so bad.
Skylar's POVAs if realizing that I was still present here, Blake's gaze fell upon me once again."What lies did he feed you, Sky?" He asked me, circling the disk in his hand. He seemed like he was enjoying every bits of it.I wasn't."What do you mean?" I whispered, momentarily forgetting that there was still a gun pressed onto my forehead."Well, let me guess." He said before passing Caden a knowing smirk. "What did he tell you about our parents?"I gulped heavily, my eyes darting from Blake to Caden. A feeling of unease washed over me, almost as if I knew what was coming. I just really hoped that it wasn't true—whatever possibilities my head was coming up with at that moment."Fire." My voice rose above a whisper, and it was deadly silent a
Skylar's POVThe State Museum of Harrisburg was enormous. The only museum that seemed to intrigue me as I stood outside of it, along with the others.I forced myself to look back at Caden as he spoke up, "Adrian, you'll be going inside. Find that specific statue, and get that disk." His voice was low but commanding at the same time. "And you two," He looked over at Shane and Jesse. "You'll keep an eye on the borders and around the museum for Blake or his men. I've made sure to back you up with few other guys."I couldn't help but look over at the huge entrance once again. There were a lot of people here, crowding outside the museum. Who the hell loved going to a museum first thing in the morning?"Well, I'll need some back up too." Adrian announced, sliding in two small, sharp knives in the back of his
Skylar's POV"So," I started. "That last metal disc is supposedly the only way to open those underground vaults."It was somewhere past noon right now and the train station was almost brimming with people. I could see the dense crowd from the window beside me; both Caden and I already seated inside the train. I had traveled to Philly before, to see Dad when he was in the hospital, but Mom still hadn't been willing to let me go.It had taken me hours to actually persuade her."Yes." Caden glanced at me and I noticed his stiffened posture beside me. "The red crystal is said to be in there somewhere."I looked away from his face, settling my gaze at the window once again. "What if those vaults don't even exist anymore?" If they were centuries-old, what guarantee did we have that they were even...intact?
Skylar's POVOnce I was done with the breakfast, which was so not less embarrassing, I tried calling my mother. The breakfast hadn't been bad. I kind of loved the company of all of these boys. They felt like a family to me.A very embarrassing family."Mom, why don't you pick up on the first ring?" I asked her when she picked up the call."I was busy, Skylar." She said. "Why are you calling from your school?"I looked outside from the glass doors, at the beautiful, lavish garden. "I'm not at school."
Skylar's POVI was embarrassed.Highly embarrassed."Come on, bro! I thought somebody broke in." I saw Shane whining before he threw himself on the couch."But this sight was more...nice." Jesse smirked, glancing at Adrian with a knowing look.I placed a hand over my burning face, trying to hide the mortification I felt at that moment. My entire face was heating up, so much so that I could even see red now. Caden tugged me closer by my waist, nuzzling into my neck, his dark black hair inches from my nose.Did he even care that I was practically dying out of embarrassment
Skylar's POVWhen Caden stopped his car in front of a house, it didn't take the full-on heavy rain to hide the big structure from me. I could clearly make it out.And I knew that house.Everything about it was similar to the house I had seen on my phone, when I had been searching on the web. It was the same house with those scorch marks on the walls. It took me few seconds to finally find my voice, my gaze still fixated on the house. "Why are we here?" It looked empty and isolated—not just the house, but the entire street."My parent's house." I heard him say.As if putting two and two together, I leaned back against my seat. I didn't want to come up with any rash conclusions, but it still felt a bit hard to breathe. When I glanced over at Caden, I realized that his gaze was, just like
Skylar's POV"—it isn't bad here. I like this school." Brody said.I wasn't exactly paying attention to whatever he had been saying, especially since I was tired as hell. I didn't get to have much sleep last night. Between those overwhelming thoughts and one specific nightmare about Alex, it was a bit hard to sleep. Every few minutes later I had to keep on reassuring myself that no one was breaking in my house, not when Mom and Dad were still here.I just missed Alex."Hey," It was when Brody gently nudged my shoulder with his, that I looked at him. "Why do you seem so down today?"I was counting by the seconds, waiting for this class to get over. Since the teacher wasn't present today, the substitute one had given us a free period. And that just gave the others to talk loudly, not letting me have even
