Jillie’s POV

I shot straight up in bed, my heart beating a mile a minute. My body ached all over. I reached over to grab my phone off the nightstand but paused when I saw the bruise on my wrist. I brought my other hand up, and it housed an identical bruise. Snatching my phone off the table, I dialed Jarren’s number. While it rang, I looked at the clock and saw it was four in the morning.

“Hello.” He finally answered.

“Jarren,” I stated, and my voice trembled.

“Piccolo, what’s wrong?” I could hear the worry lacing his voice.

“Something happened.”

“What, what is it?” I could barely hear him because there was so much wind.

“I’m not sure. I just…” I trailed off.

“You just what, baby?” Again I had to strain to hear him, and he sounded so worried.

“I saw something horrible, Jarren.”

“Come downstairs and open the door.”

I dropped the phone on the bed and ran downstairs as fast yet as quietly as I could. I unlocked the front door and opened it. Running out,

Jarren’s POV I was sitting in the car with Ean, headed to play golf. The ride was relatively quiet, but it wasn’t awkward. I stared out the window most of the time, thinking about what Jillie had told me earlier. I then got to witness it. I was able to be a part of her vision. I didn’t know how that was possible, but I didn’t care. I now knew that I didn’t kill Annabelle, but the question remained: Who did? I got out of the car when we pulled up to the golf course. I looked around and saw that most people were dressed in the typical golf fashion. I then looked at myself and Ean. We stuck out like two sore thumbs.“I hate those outfits,” he stated, open

  • Bitten   68: Practice Room

Jillie’s POV I sat in one of the armchairs in the living room while Elise and Jarren sat on the couch. Needless to say, I was supervising. As I listened to them, it hit me that my sister really was horrible at Italian. She didn’t even understand the basics, and I thought that was ridiculous, considering our maternal grandfather spoke Italian, and Nona used the basics she’d learned from him.“Jarren, I don’t get it,” Elise whined.“That’s because you’re not trying to get it,” I told her.“Piccolo, please,” Jarren stated, looking at me. I simply rolled my eyes.

  • Bitten   69: Multiple Scents

Jillie’s POV Right before my eyes, I saw another room. On the bed lay a young woman. She was maybe in her early twenties. She seemed to be sleeping peacefully. I couldn’t really see her face. Over by the window stood a man, just like the young woman. I couldn’t get a good look at his face. He stood there facing the woman, staring maybe. It was hard to tell. I heard something bang against the wall and turned to look… The feel of something piercing my flesh brought me back. I looked around and saw that I was in the hospital room I’d been in before. Dr. Reed was removing a needle from my arm.&ldqu

  • Bitten   70: Progress

Jarren’s POV I was pacing the expanse of my room. It’d been three days since we’d come across that tree. One lone tree. The only thing with that scent. A scent that, with one thought, pissed me off. It still didn’t make sense to me how that could be the only thing with that smell.“Jarren, stop with the super pacing already,” Rian stated. I stopped turning to look at him. I hadn’t noticed I’d been moving that fast. I let out a deep breath and sat on the bed. We were waiting on Mason. He was most likely trying to come up with something to tell Alyx. We still hadn’t included the girls in our search. It donned on me that Alyx would definitely

Jarren’s POV It seemed it took them forever, but they finally returned, dragging another vampire behind them. “It took you long enough,” I told them.“This crafty bastard is fast,” Rian stated. I rolled my eyes, getting up. “Bring him downstairs,” I stated, leading the way. We reached the bottom of the stairs, and Devlin turned our way. Mason and Rian held the man up in front of him.“Is this him?” I asked. He looked at the man, who hissed at him and nodded. “Yeah, that’s him.”“Sit him in the other chair.” I leaned against one of the tables as they secured him. I crossed my arms over my chest. His scent wasn’t the one I was looking for, either. I watched as Mason took up the spot Rian had occupied earlier. I pushed away from the table and circled Devlin’s chair.“Will you let me go now?”As I made my way back in front of him, I pretended to think about it. “No.”“But, he said if I told you, he’d let me go.”I made my way back behind him.

Jillie’s POV I closed my locker and headed to the cafeteria. I walked in, and Alyx and Rian sat at the table.“Hey, Aly. Hey Rian.”“Hey, Jillie.” Rian then replied at the same time Alyx said, “What’s up, JJ?”“Where are the boys?” I asked, sitting down.“Oh, so I’m not a boy?” Rian asked.I laughed. “You know what I mean.”“I’m not sure where they are,” Alyx stated.“Me either,” Rian added. I cocked my head to the side at the sound of his voice.“You’re lying.”“I am not.”“Yes, you are. You’re such a bad liar.” Alyx stated. I got up to get myself something to eat. After deciding on pizza, I grabbed something to drink and returned to the table. I brough

Jillie's POVI grabbed some panties and shorts before letting the towel fall and getting changed. I walked over and stood before him, wrapping my hands around his neck. I leaned in and kissed him, but he didn’t kiss me back. I pulled back and looked at him.“I’ve told you repeatedly to lock the window, Jillie.”I threw my hands in the air. “Again with the damn window.” I walked over and locked it. “Happy now? It’s locked. It really doesn’t matter because someone could always break it.” I told him.“But not without a lot of noise.”I rolled my eyes. “Whatever. Back to my original question. Why weren’t you at school today?”“I was taking care of something.”“Something like what?” I asked sitting on the bed against the headboard. He turned to look at me. “Doesn’t matter.”“Obviousl

  • Bitten   73: The Way I Could

Jillie’s POV I was waiting on Jarren, and he was late. I was pretty tempted just to drive myself to the party. I sat on the couch and looked at the clock for probably the hundredth time. I was just about to call him when there was a knock on the door. Walking to the door, I was completely ready to be mad at him, but all that went out of the window when I opened the door and saw him. He was standing there in a deep blue collared shirt, which he’d left unbuttoned at the top. He had on dark wash jeans and a pair of white Nike’s. He held six long-stem roses in his hand, and his face housed a smile that stopped my breath; before me was standing a man who was sexier than sin.

Jillie’s POV I took a deep breath. My hands were both shaking. I’d been avoiding this for two weeks now. It was too painful. I knelt in front of the headstone. Running my fingers over the engraved words, tears slowly ran down my cheeks. “Hey, Mal,” I stated through my tears. “I’m sorry I didn’t come sooner. I just couldn’t live with the guilt of knowing this happened because of me.” I stated quietly. “But the guilt I felt for leaving your funeral early and trying to stay away outweighed that.” I took another deep breath. “This sucks, Mal. This really is unfair. We were supposed to make up, and everything was supposed to get better between us. It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. Me sitting here crying my eyes out and talking to your headstone.” I paused for a minute. “We were supposed to do so much together. Go to college, get married, and have kids. Oh, speaking of kids, Alyx is pregnant. I know she wasn’t your favorite person, but I also know how much you like kids.”

Jarren’s POV“We’ll take them outside and burn them,” I stated, looking at all the bodies around us. I then looked around the room for Jillie. “Where did Jillie go?” I asked, panicking.“She and Kaileeh headed that way. I think there’s a door over there.” Garret stated.“Who screamed earlier?” I asked. I’d been so occupied that I hadn’t stopped to see who it was. I just knew it wasn’t Jillie. My eyes scanned the room until they landed on Mallory on the floor in a pool of blood. I then saw Mina on the floor as well. I shook my head. She was the only vampire I knew that could be easily

Jillie’s POV I watched as they were all secured to a wall with what looked like metal shackling. I was held in place by one of his many goons. I surveyed the room and counted thirteen of them. Even if the three weren’t bound, they’d still be highly outnumbered.“Malinda,” Nyx stated, drawing my attention.“I already told you I don’t know who Malinda is,” I stated calmly.“You’re in denial, my dear. You’ll remember soon enough.” Oh wow. He really was insane. Not just the crazy I’m going to kill you all insane, but t

I glared at Xander before finally letting him go. I made my way over to the sitting area in the library.“Well, what did she see?”“She said she saw people, but they were more like shadows.”“Shado

Jillie’s POV I sat up as I heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Kaileeh came into view a moment later.“Hey. The keys are on the ring by the door.”“Thanks, Jillie. I’ll be back in a few hours.”“Be careful. It’ll be dark soon.”She nodded. “Bye.”

  • Bitten   99: I'd Never do That

Jarren’s POV I watched as she tossed and turned. There was absolutely nothing I could do for her. Reid had already given her a sedative, but it wasn’t working. What was happening to her? I heard her say my name a few times, but that was it. At first, I couldn’t make out the rest of what she was saying.“Jarren, stop it!” She screamed. I looked at everyone in the room, confused.“Stop what, Piccolo?” I asked, moving closer to the bed. I let out a hiss as pain ripped through my right side. What the hell was that? I lift my shirt slowly to see a wound. It looked like fire hit me. I could feel all eyes in th

We ended up with three boxes full. After lugging them up the stairs and into my room, we collapsed on the bed.“When I said Aunt Teya had a bunch of albums, I was kidding. She h

  • Bitten   97: Bite Me

Jarren's POVMaking my way through the trees, I ran nowhere in particular. Just trying to run my frustration out. I’d been moving for hours, running to the next city over and beyond before returning. I was still a bit agitated. I continued to run until I was outside Jillie’s house. It was after two in the morning. I knew she was sleeping, but I couldn’t stop myself from waking her. I pulled out my phone and hit her speed dial button. It rang five times before going to voicemail. I hung up and called again. This time she answered on the fourth ring.“Hello,” she answered groggily.“Come outside.”“Okay.” I could hear her moving around. “Give me a minute,” she stated before hanging up. I slipped my phone back into my pocket. I crossed my arms over my chest and leaned against the house. I couldn’t go inside for what I

  • Bitten   96: Reincarnation

Unknown POV It was all coming together now. Everything I’d worked so hard for the last hundred and fifty-plus years was coming true. It took me a while to get to this point, but the reward at the end would be well worth it. Rising from my seat, I made my way to the window. Looking out, I was met by the vast expanse of trees. Secluded and, at the same time, visible.“Brother.”“Have a seat. I have something I want you to do for me, sister.”“I’m listening.”“There’s a full moon Friday night. This is what I need you to do….”
