Jarren’s POV
“Well, how do you propose I do that?”
“Jillie. Come here for a second, princess.” Ean called, cutting off what I was about to say.
“I’ll be back,” she threw over her shoulder before leaving the room.
I closed my eyes and exhaled. Why did she have to ask me that question? She could always dance again. That would entertain me. I felt myself becoming excited at just the thought of it. I had to push that image out of my mind. I heard her coming back up the stairs. She stopped at the edge of the bed.
“Are you sleeping?”
“No.”
“Are you tired?”
“Not really.”
That was a complete and utter lie. I couldn’t sleep last night because I saw her every time I closed my eyes. It wasn’t a bad thing. It was just the things that we were doing that had me awake. I knew if I closed my eyes, I’d see those wonderful things but wake up to realize they weren’t happening. She didn’t want me that way, which was the part I didn’t want to deal with. I had to face it every day without my dreams, making it worse.
“We could take a nap if you want,” she suggested.
“You must be tired.”
“A little. Mallory woke me up earlier than I wanted to be.”
I chuckled. “Alright, little one. Let’s take a nap.”
She climbed into the other side of the bed, facing me. We were lying a respectable distance apart, of course. “I’m not a little one.”
Oh, I know you’re not. I thought to myself. Well, technically, she was, but only in the sense of height. Everything else belonged to the woman that she was. From her perfectly amble bosom to her curvaceous hips and perky round breasts. I closed my eyes again, and the sandman captured this time.
“Jarren, why are we going to the greenhouse?”
“You’ll see,” I replied.
“You know I hate it when you do that.”
“Do what?” I asked innocently while opening the greenhouse doors for her.
“When you don’t answer my question.”
“If I answered your question, then it wouldn’t be a surprise.”
I walked into the greenhouse behind her and the door shut. I followed her a little way inside until she stopped walking, and I nearly ran into her.
“Why are you following me? I don’t know what you brought me in here for. Remember? You wouldn’t tell me.” She pouted a little.
“Follow me,” I told her, taking a right and then a left.
We made it to the area of the greenhouse, vastly populated by flowers. I heard her gasp when she saw it. It was filled with so many rare flowers.
I watched her as she walked around and gently touched the flowers. She seemed as if she was spellbound. She stopped to look at and smell every flower, but I could tell she liked the Plumeria Purple Jack and the Plumeria Golden Unicorn. I think she liked the smell of that one the best. I watched as she inhaled the sweet fragrance of it.
“These are so beautiful,” she said.
“Just like you,” I whispered.
I watched her hand pause as she was about to touch another flower. She looked at me. Her hazel gems stared at me. We just stood there, staring at each other. She broke contact and sat on a nearby bench. I walked over slowly and sat beside her. She turned to me and crashed her lips to mine. Thanks to my vampire reflexes, it didn’t look like I was caught off guard. Her arms were around my neck instantly, and mine were on her waist. She bit my bottom lip, and I smiled into the kiss. Her tongue roamed my mouth, leaving its mark, claiming it. Our tongues began to dance a fierce Salsa, and I could tell she wanted the lead. I gave her dominance. I would give her anything.
She pulled away, catching her breath, staring at me with those hypnotic eyes. She touched her beating heart. Surprised it was beating that fast. I was surprised as well. From the sounds of it, it was going a hundred miles per hour. She reached her hand out, moving it towards my chest. I caught her hand in mine and brought it up to my lips. I pulled her by the hand into me, resting her hand on my shoulder, mine going back to her waist. I bent down and kissed her again. This time I lick her bottom lip. She immediately granted me access but didn’t fight me for dominance. This time I led us in a slow classic Waltz. Our tongues slowly moved in sync with each other.
I pulled her on top of me, never breaking the kiss. She was now straddling me. I felt her pull on the hem of my shirt, and I smirked. I broke the kiss allowing her to pull my shirt over my head. I then pulled hers off and tossed it behind me. She kissed my lips again before burying her face in my neck. A low moan escaped me, and I felt her smile.
I undid the clasp at the back of her strapless bra, and it fell into my lap. I picked it up and tossed it behind me as well. I put my hands on her waist and gently brought her up. I took in her beauty. I leaned in and enclosed my mouth over one of her peaks while playing with her mounds. I heard her moan and bit gently, careful not to bite her with my fangs. I listened to her gasp, and her head flew back. I then turned my attention to her other breast.
I pulled back, and her hand went to my zipper. She unzipped it but paused. She looked at me as if realizing for the first time what we were about to do. I smiled at her and was about to lift her off me, but she locked her arms around my neck, refusing to move. I could have easily gotten her off me, but I didn’t want to hurt her.
Her hand moved slowly back toward my pants, and again she stopped. She got up, and I went to zip my pants back up. I stopped when I saw her panties fall from under her skirt and hit the floor. She walked back over to me and straddled me again. She looked at me and then looked down. Realization hit me. I reached in and pulled out my manhood. It stood at direct attention.
She leaned in, crushing her lips to mine. The kiss was so passionate. So intense. A growl rose into my throat. I had to control the beast inside of me. I had to keep it at bay. I tangled my fingers in her curls as she laced her fingers threw my hair. She pulled her lips away from mine. Her forehead rested against mine. She lifted slightly, and I felt her take me into her hand. I shuddered at her soft touch. She looked me in the eyes as she slowly lowered herself. I could feel myself at her entrance.
“I’ve wanted this for so long,” she breathed.
I felt her lower herself, and then…
I woke up to Jillie moving around. It wasn’t like she was struggling. She was just moving. This is one of those times I wished I could see people’s thoughts instead of hearing them. I looked over at her clock; it was just after one o’clock. I exhaled and sat up slowly. I felt a slight tingle in the back of my throat. I was thirsty.
I got off the bed quickly, using my supernatural speed not to wake her. I slipped on a shirt and slipped out of the bedroom window. I landed lightly on my feet and headed to the forest about five miles away. I arrived there in a flash. I was instantly in hunter mode. I wanted to get back before Jillie woke up. I sniffed the air and caught wind of a bobcat. I followed the scent until I saw it at the lake. I pounced on it before it even had time to register my presence.
After I was done with the bobcat, I headed back to Jillie’s house. My mind on my dream. I’d always had dreams about Jillie, but never sexual ones. Never dreams this intimate. I knew I wanted Jillie emotionally, but I also knew that my body wanted her physically.
I made it back to Jillie’s within a minute. I jumped up to Jillie’s window, grabbing hold of the ledge. I looked slightly over the windowsill. She was still sleeping on the bed. I climbed through the window expertly and landed without a sound. After closing the window, I went back to the bed and lay down quickly. She stirred slightly and turned towards me.
She nestled her face into my arm and laid her hand on my chest. I turned slightly and rested my cheek on the top of her head. I heard my phone vibrate in my pants pocket. I reached down and pulled it out. It was a text from my Mom. I didn’t bother to open it. I put the phone back into my pocket. I pulled one of her natural curls, watching it spring back; I whispered in her ear.
“Jillie. I have to go.”
I felt her snuggle deeper into my arm and her hands clutch my shirt. I smiled to myself. Even when she was asleep, she didn’t want me to leave. I removed her fingers from around my shirt and kissed her hand gently. I then got off the bed. Leaning over, I kissed her forehead softly. I knew she’d be upset with me when she woke up, and that’s something I didn’t want.
Hopping out of her window again, I made my way back to the forest. Finding the Crocus brush, I pulled six flowers and kept the stems long. I returned to Jillie’s house and used my means of entrance from before. I placed the flowers on her bedside table, looked at her once more, and then headed out the door.

I pulled up to my parents’ house and parked the car in the garage. Entering through the kitchen I hung my keys on the hook and went to find my mother.
“Hello, Master Jarren.”
“Hey, Conrad. Have you seen my mother?”
“Yes, sir. She’s in her study, waiting on you.”
“Thank you.”
I made my way down the maze-like hallways to my mother’s study. I didn’t bother to knock. I just walked in. She was on a call and put her finger up, halting me. I walked over to the leather couch and sat down.
“Did you forget that you had training today?” she asked me once she hung up the phone.
“No. I would have been back on time.”
“I don’t doubt it, but we need to talk while your father is away.”
I rolled my eyes. I didn’t want to have this talk. It was the same every time. I was tired of hearing it. It was more of a lecture than a talk in my opinion.
“Mom, we have this same talk almost every day.”
“And we will keep having it every day until you understand the seriousness of it all.”
“I do understand it.”
“Okay, then, Jarren.” She said, rising from her seat behind her desk. “Then when are you going to find a bride?”
There it was. The subject that I didn’t want to be brought up. I loved my mother to death, but I hated how she continued to bring this up.
“I know. I know. You’re in love with Jillie. She’s a sweet girl. I see why you love her, I do, but you have to think about your future and the future of our kind.”
“Mom, I have a few years before I take the throne.”
“Yes, and you have to be married by then.” My mother informed me for the millionth time, now standing in front of me.
“I…I just can’t, Mom.”
“Do you love her that much?”
I looked at her. She had to be kidding. She, of all people, knew how I felt about Jillie. “Yes.”
“And you know this without a moment’s hesitation or doubt?”
“Yes.”
“Does she feel the same way?”
That was another question I wouldn’t say I liked for her to bring up. Not because I didn’t know the answer, because I did, but because the answer would crush me. I didn’t answer; I stayed silent.
“Honey, you have to take that first step. If she doesn’t know how you feel about her, how do you expect to find out how she truly feels about you? Though the little situation of you being a vampire might be a problem. She may not take it lightly. I’m sure she’ll probably freak, but I suppose-”
“Wait,” I said, cutting her off. “Does that mean I have permission to tell her?”
She thought about it for a moment. “You’re head over heels in love with her, and I don’t see you giving her up for anyone else.”
I was overly excited. I hadn’t told Jillie about me being a vampire for two reasons. One was obvious. In the words of Mallory, I was a monster, and I didn’t want to scare her away, and the other was because my parents, well mainly my mother, would not allow it.
“Thank you, Mom.”
She let out a deep breath. “For your sake, I hope she takes it better than I’ve imagined it.”
“Well, you have quite an imagination, mother,” I said, standing and kissing her cheek.
I walked out of her study. I made my way through the maze of halls and into the library. A lot came with being prince of the Vampire World, and one of them was knowing all there was to know. I searched the selves for the Prophecy books. Once I located the one I’d been reading, I settled into a chair. I might as well do something constructive before training in a few hours.
Jillie's POVI woke up, and it was a few minutes till two. I looked around the room for Jarren, and my eyes landed on the flowers on my nightstand. I instantly knew he was gone. I picked up the flowers and smelled them. I loved Crocus flowers. Too bad they only bloomed in late fall and winter. I got out of bed, stretched, and made my way downstairs. No one was here.I made my way into the kitchen and grabbed a vase. I filled it with water. I took the vase back upstairs, put the flowers in it, and headed back to the kitchen. Pulling an individual serving cup of Mac-N-Cheese out of the pantry, I ripped the top off and filled it with water. I put it in the microwave for ninety seconds. While it was warming up, I grabbed a bottle of peach tea out of the refrigerator.I grabbed a spoon and took my food out when the microwave went off. I walked into the living room and turned the TV on. Man of Steel was showing on TNT. I ate my food while watching Henry Cavill and his gorgeousness. I placed
Jarren’s POV“I have to call you back. I think my house is under attack,” she said, cutting off what I was trying to say.“Sure,” I responded. Before I could say anything else, she ended the call.I’d just left my parent’s house and was driving to my house, which sat in front of my parent’s about three miles away. Their house was pushed back and hidden by the forest. When I got to my house, I walked into the kitchen and took a bag of blood from the refrigerator. Packaged blood wasn’t as good as fresh blood, but I was too tired from all my training to go hunting. I put the bag in the microwave and warmed it up. While it was running, I pulled a cup from the cabinet. When the blood was ready, I tore it open and poured it into the cup. I threw the bag away on my way to my room.I sat at my desk, drinking my dinner as I studied the Parliamentary procedures of vampires and refreshing myself on the cast systems that we have. I’d learned all of this before…over two hundred years ago, but I ne
Jillie's POV"Jillie, where do you want this table?" Mason asked me."Just put it over in front of the fireplace."I went back to hanging up the Christmas lights. Please don't ask me why. Mallory thought it would be cute, and I didn't want to see her pouting about it if I didn't. We only had about two hours before the party was supposed to start. Mason and Alyx volunteered to come over and help us set up. Alyx was now in the kitchen mixing up bowls of punch with Jarren. Aaden was helping his cousin bring in the gear he would need to DJ, and Mallory was outside setting up signs for people to follow to the side door that led into the charity room."Where do you want us to set him up?" Aaden asked."In the corner opposite the door," I answered them."How do the tables look, Jillie?" Mason asked.I looked on my shoulder, making sure to hold onto the ladder. "They look fine. Can you get that cotton snow stuff and bring it in here, please.""Sure, doll," he responded before leaving the room
Jarren's POVI watched as Jillie and Carson danced. He knew what he was doing. I was happy when she stepped away from him a bit."Calm down, dude," Mason whispered."What makes you think I'm upset?" I asked."Your eyes are beginning to change."That sobered me up instantly. I took deep, calming breaths. I couldn't lose control with so many people around."I need a drink," I told him. And I did. Not an alcoholic drink because, well, let's face it, that has no effect on vampires."I'll cover for you. Go." Mason told me. That's precisely why we've been friends for the last two hundred and fifty years.I slipped out of the party unnoticed and into the kitchen. I left through the sliding door remembering to close it behind me this time. I made my way out of her yard and toward the forest. When I made it there, I sniffed the air but caught wind of nothing. I made my way deeper into the woods. This was going to take longer than I thought. I sniffed again and, this time, faintly caught the sc
Jillie's POV I couldn't believe what had just happened. I'd just kissed Jarren. Maybe I'd had more to drink than I thought, and he kissed me back. Perhaps he was drunk as well. Drunk or not I liked it. I can't say the same for him. He just lay there when I kissed him. Even though he gave me a soft kiss afterward. I'm sure it was a sympathy kiss, but I wasn't sure. It was so soft, gentle, sweet, and lingering. When I entered the room, I found Alyx and immediately walked over to her. She was the only person I could tell about what happened. I mean, I could tell Mallory, but then our whole friend group would know."Will you help me bring in more dip?" I asked her."Sure," she responded. We grabbed the bowls and headed into the kitchen. I sat my bowl on the counter and turned to her. I took a deep breath."I kissed Jarren.""How was it?" "Are you hearing me? I kissed one of my best friends.""No," she said, leaning against the counter. "You kissed the boy
Jarren's POV I was going to tell her how I felt tonight, and my Christmas gift to her was the best way to do it. I'd made up my mind that whether or not she meant to kiss me or it was a mistake, I was going to tell her how I felt. I'd just have to deal with the outcome. I went back to the rest, and Jillie was there a minute later. She looked tired. I guess I wasn't the only one that noticed."Jillie, you look tired," Alyx said."I've been up since about five-thirty thanks to my sister and all the noise she was making. I guess it wouldn't have been so bad except for the fact that I went to bed at two this morning.""Why didn't your parents deal with her?" Mallory asked."They weren't here. They left this morning to serve breakfast at the soup kitchen.""You didn't go with them?" Mason asked. Probably surprised because Jillie never missed helping at the soup kitchens on holidays."They didn't wake me. I'm going tomorrow, though." I zoned them out and foc
Jillie's POV "Mallory, wake up because I'm not catching you if you fall over." "Jillie, it's too early. I don't see why we had to be here at five anyway." "To make it through processing before the plane leaves." "Well, why didn't you book something later?" "Because we have to check into the hotel before four," I told her as my dad took the last of our suitcases out of the car. "Alright, girls. Be careful and have fun." "We will. Bye, Daddy." "Bye, princess," he said, hugging me and kissing my forehead. "Bye Ean," Mallory said. "By Mal," he responded, hugging her. I pulled both of my luggage suitcases and carried my carry-on as Mallory pulled her oversized luggage suitcases, carried a huge duffle bag and a carry-on. We spotted people from our school and made our way over. Mr. and Mrs. Key were both in the center of the group. "Hey, Jillie." Mrs. Key said when she saw me. "Hey," I replied. "We need to get a head count so we can start moving through checkpoints. I
Jarren's POV Jillie looked as if she was sleeping peacefully. I would hear her mumble every now and then, but she seemed to be smiling. I continued to run my fingers through her hair. I leaned back in my seat and caught Aaden looking at us. He smirked, and I flipped him off. He laughed and turned his attention back to Becka. The poor girl was just going to get her feelings hurt dealing with Aaden."Damn, Jillie's sleep too," Mason said, kneeling beside me."Alyx must be sleeping too.""Yeah. What is it about girls and traveling that makes them want to sleep?""I don't know, dude," I replied, looking down at Jillie. Mason moved to Jillie's seat. He lifted her bottom half, causing her to stir a bit. He sat down and sat her in his lap. "Why aren't you with Alyx?""She drools."I smirked. "She's gonna kill you when she finds out you said that.""Only if you tell her.""I might.""You wouldn't do that to your best friend.""Your right. I wouldn't do that to Jillie." I smirked.
Jillie’s POV I took a deep breath. My hands were both shaking. I’d been avoiding this for two weeks now. It was too painful. I knelt in front of the headstone. Running my fingers over the engraved words, tears slowly ran down my cheeks. “Hey, Mal,” I stated through my tears. “I’m sorry I didn’t come sooner. I just couldn’t live with the guilt of knowing this happened because of me.” I stated quietly. “But the guilt I felt for leaving your funeral early and trying to stay away outweighed that.” I took another deep breath. “This sucks, Mal. This really is unfair. We were supposed to make up, and everything was supposed to get better between us. It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. Me sitting here crying my eyes out and talking to your headstone.” I paused for a minute. “We were supposed to do so much together. Go to college, get married, and have kids. Oh, speaking of kids, Alyx is pregnant. I know she wasn’t your favorite person, but I also know how much you like kids.”
Jarren’s POV“We’ll take them outside and burn them,” I stated, looking at all the bodies around us. I then looked around the room for Jillie. “Where did Jillie go?” I asked, panicking.“She and Kaileeh headed that way. I think there’s a door over there.” Garret stated.“Who screamed earlier?” I asked. I’d been so occupied that I hadn’t stopped to see who it was. I just knew it wasn’t Jillie. My eyes scanned the room until they landed on Mallory on the floor in a pool of blood. I then saw Mina on the floor as well. I shook my head. She was the only vampire I knew that could be easily
Jillie’s POV I watched as they were all secured to a wall with what looked like metal shackling. I was held in place by one of his many goons. I surveyed the room and counted thirteen of them. Even if the three weren’t bound, they’d still be highly outnumbered.“Malinda,” Nyx stated, drawing my attention.“I already told you I don’t know who Malinda is,” I stated calmly.“You’re in denial, my dear. You’ll remember soon enough.” Oh wow. He really was insane. Not just the crazy I’m going to kill you all insane, but t
Jarren’s POV“What the hell do you mean you took her to the tree?!” I yelled, slamming Xander into a wall. “I said she couldn’t go!”“She wanted to go, and I was curious!” He yelled back.“Why don’t both of you calm down.” Garret intervened. I glared at Xander before finally letting him go. I made my way over to the sitting area in the library.“Well, what did she see?”“She said she saw people, but they were more like shadows.”“Shado
Jillie’s POV I sat up as I heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Kaileeh came into view a moment later.“Hey. Where are you headed, all dressed up?”“Garret just called and said he had a surprise for me, so I’m going to meet him. I was wondering if I could borrow your car.”“Sure. The keys are on the ring by the door.”“Thanks, Jillie. I’ll be back in a few hours.”“Be careful. It’ll be dark soon.”She nodded. “Bye.”
Jarren’s POV I watched as she tossed and turned. There was absolutely nothing I could do for her. Reid had already given her a sedative, but it wasn’t working. What was happening to her? I heard her say my name a few times, but that was it. At first, I couldn’t make out the rest of what she was saying.“Jarren, stop it!” She screamed. I looked at everyone in the room, confused.“Stop what, Piccolo?” I asked, moving closer to the bed. I let out a hiss as pain ripped through my right side. What the hell was that? I lift my shirt slowly to see a wound. It looked like fire hit me. I could feel all eyes in th
Jillie’s POV“What exactly are we looking for, Jillie?” Kaileeh asked.I moved another box aside. “Those old picture albums.”“Which old picture albums? Aunt Teya has a lot of them.”“All of them.” I emptied a box. “Just put all of them in here.” We went through the entire basement looking for photo albums. It took us two hours to get them all. We ended up with three boxes full. After lugging them up the stairs and into my room, we collapsed on the bed.“When I said Aunt Teya had a bunch of albums, I was kidding. She h
Jarren's POVMaking my way through the trees, I ran nowhere in particular. Just trying to run my frustration out. I’d been moving for hours, running to the next city over and beyond before returning. I was still a bit agitated. I continued to run until I was outside Jillie’s house. It was after two in the morning. I knew she was sleeping, but I couldn’t stop myself from waking her. I pulled out my phone and hit her speed dial button. It rang five times before going to voicemail. I hung up and called again. This time she answered on the fourth ring.“Hello,” she answered groggily.“Come outside.”“Okay.” I could hear her moving around. “Give me a minute,” she stated before hanging up. I slipped my phone back into my pocket. I crossed my arms over my chest and leaned against the house. I couldn’t go inside for what I
Unknown POV It was all coming together now. Everything I’d worked so hard for the last hundred and fifty-plus years was coming true. It took me a while to get to this point, but the reward at the end would be well worth it. Rising from my seat, I made my way to the window. Looking out, I was met by the vast expanse of trees. Secluded and, at the same time, visible.“Brother.”“Have a seat. I have something I want you to do for me, sister.”“I’m listening.”“There’s a full moon Friday night. This is what I need you to do….”
