Chapter 82

Max and Lark strolled silently, through the police station, their footsteps echoing in the corridors as they made their way towards the garage. The familiar scent of gasoline and polished metal filled the air, mingling with the underlying tension that lingered between them. They spotted a row of police cars, their polished exteriors gleaming under the fluorescent lights.

As they approached the vehicles, Lark casually leaned against one, his eyes scanning the surroundings. "Let's take this one," he said, pointing to a sleek black sedan with tinted windows. Max hesitated for a moment, not particularly fond of riding shotgun with Lark, but he didn't want to cause any unnecessary friction between them, there was already enough from that morning. With a resigned sigh, Max nodded in agreement, "it's your call". He said.
