Sixty Four

“How did all of this happen?” she whispered, reaching for Emily’s hand and holding on tight.

“You want me to explain the birds and the bees to ya, kid?” Damon teased, tension still in his voice as he tried to lighten the mood a little. He glared at Justin before finally accepting that there were more important things than Justin’s petty behavior. He was determined to figure out what the bastard was up to but, in the meantime… “Truce?”

Justin nodded shortly, accepting the offer.

“This isn’t over,” Damon warned him. “But there’s too much going on and Raven needs things to be calm. So you just got lucky, I’ll back off. For now.”

Justin sighed.

“Look,” he began, shoving his hands into his pockets. “I know I’ve been an asshole, and no one has any reason to trust me. But when I saw Mason’s car mangled into the tires of that truck… puts things in perspective, know what I mean?”

“Yeah, I know what you mean. I’m not sure I believe you, but I know what you mean.”
