10. Morning Sickness

Nikkie's POV

"Nikkie, why don't you ever come see me? What kind of work are you doing in that place?"

I could hear my mother's words even though she was far from where I stood. All around me was my bedroom at Krystal's house, and all the windows and exits were locked.

I banged on the window, shouting apologies to my mother. But she was sinking further into the lake, her hands reaching me for help.
