Jane’s POV Monday in Eric’s house. There’s no work and classes today because it's a holiday. “He did his best,” Eugene said while looking at the paper on the table. It is Eugene’s family drawing that Eric accidentally ripped. Eric taped it from the back and placed it on the table where Eugene could see once we came back to his house. “His face turned ugly though.” When Eugene murmured this, I looked at the paper and noticed that Eric’s face in the drawing was a mess. I couldn’t help myself and laughed. “Pfft…” Eugene looked at me. I recollected myself with a cough, fearing that he’d think I was laughing at his drawing. However, he stayed wordless and only observed my face. Curious what’s going inside his mind, I asked, “Why?” “Nothing,” my boy answered. “I’m thirsty.” “Really? Then I’ll get you a glass of…” “There’s no need, mom. I’ll go get it.” Eugene walked by himself in the kitchen to get some water. I looked around Eric’s house. “Now that Eugene and I are alone a
Lance once told Jane that his sister is living in the same subdivision. But Jane already forgot a small detail like that. And even if she’s standing in front of Fatima, who does not resemble Lance at all, Jane has no idea. “Welcome to our house. I am Fatima.” “Nice to meet you. I am Jane. And this is my son, Eugene.” Eugene looked at Fatima. He then gave a polite greeting. “Good day, Marcus’s mom. My name is Eugene. I am Marcus’s friend. It is my pleasure to meet you.” “Ohhhhh~” Fatima gasped, covering her mouth. “You are soooo cute~” All of a sudden, a piercing shout cut the atmosphere. “Eugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeene!” Jane saw a cute guy with small rounded eyes, pointed nose , and rosy and chubby cheeks. The boy is cute and charming just like Eugene but… ‘Why does he look familiar to me?’ Jane wondered. “Eugene! You came!” Marcus exclaimed before he hugged Eugene. Eugene got stunned for a moment. Then, he felt shy. “Marcus,” Fatima called her son with authority and narrowed h
Jane’s POV “Why is everyone trying to pick me up today?” I murmured while looking outside the window of the taxi.“Yes?” the taxi driver replied, thinking that I was talking to him.I looked at him and smiled faintly. “No. Nothing mister.”He nodded his head and continued driving on the long highway.Just a moment ago, I thought that I survived the dangerous question from Marcus’s mom. But when I found out that it was Eric’s fiancee who was calling, I doubted my luck.‘I am wondering why she suddenly thought of hanging out with me.’ If Eric and Eugene are both in the house, then I won’t have time to meet Haidee. It seems this day was made for us to meet.‘Good thing. I was thinking on how to solve Haidee and Cyrus’s relationship either way. Being Haidee’s friend and Cyrus's friend might help.’ Suddenly I remembered the mess I made two days ago.“Ohhhhh!” I groaned, pulling my own hair. The driver flinched as he looked back at me through the front mirror.Feeling shy, I cleared my t
“Yes. It’s me. Lance’s girlfriend,” Jane introduced. Eric’s mouth hardened. Eyes turned bloodshot. He turned his head to Jane and stared at her. He’s dumbfounded. It’s not been that long since Jane told Eric that there is nothing going on with her and Lance. Then, she suddenly proclaimed herself as Lance’s girlfriend? There might be one reason why. Eric could guess. It is either Lance threatened her, or he is using her to pretend as his girlfriend. Even so, he couldn’t believe that Jane would choose to protect Lance even if she had to lie like this. He’s so damn mad. So mad that he might burst any moment. Byron watched his boss’ reaction and he readied himself. In case Eric said something, John would cover his mouth, even if that means losing his job. “It is so good to see you here!” Kate told Jane, holding both of Jane’s hands. “I did not know that you and Lance are dating. Congratulations,” Haidee said to Jane. Doom. Mess. Catastrophe. The lies got bigger than even Hai
Jane’s POV The golf course is like an oasis of artificiality in a desert of flat land and unnatural colors. With only trees and buildings obstructing the planar geography, the course is diverse with landscapes; hills, lakes, and pits of someone flowing from one to another. It looks relaxing to see the huge space around me. And I realized why playing golf is expensive. Because it feels like you’re renting a huge place to your little ball play. Wearing a yellow shirt with sleeves, golf skirt and a visor Adidas cap, I looked at the people I am with in this gigantic garden. Kate is with her boyfriend, Peter. They enjoy practicing their shots. On the left side, there are Eric and Haidee wearing their gloves. They don’t talk that much, but they don’t look in a bad mood either. And me? I am standing next to my boss. A.K.A, my fake boyfriend. I looked up at the sky and asked where it went wrong. Because I left Eugene with his friend? Or because I lied to Lance’s mom? Whatever it is,
Jane’s POV “Hey friend!” That is the most unfriendly greeting that I heard in my entire life. I jumped and turned towards him. Cyrus was walking towards our side with a smile that is hard to read. My shoulders hunched and my jaw tightened. I am so embarrassed that I just wanted to dig anywhere and fit myself into the hole. I wanted to avoid his gaze, but like an idiot, I stayed looking at his face until he stood before me. My heart dropped to the pit of my stomach. Gulp. “After you made a mess in my car, it was so NICE to see again, Jane.” Whoosh. I felt the blood draining out of my body, as if I suddenly became so anemic. My cheeks burned as I sent a deepest condolence to myself. Now, on a clear day of Monday, I will die in the hands of Cyrus. Will an apology work? Given that he has a perfectionist character, I guess he prefers honesty over a lie. And so… “I am so sorry. I must be so crazy that night,” I said. Cyrus’s eyes widened for a second. Was it a good sign? Or a
Third Person’s POV Jane did not know exactly whatever came into her body that she got the courage to hit Cyrus’s head and to call him ‘Evil’ in front of everyone.Things just came out like this and she thinks it is too late to change her mind or to make an excuse, saying that her hand slipped. The wide eyed audience and the victim stared at Jane. Those who did not hear may wonder why Jane did that to him.On the other side, Haidee and Cyrus, who did not know that Jane was standing behind them, were quite shocked too.No one dared to hit Cyrus’s head. Valerie slapped him before, but except his stepmother, Jane is the first one to attack him head on.‘Is she crazy?!’ Lance shouted inwardly. He threw away his golf club and walked closer to her side.Just in case Cyrus would try to hit Jane’s back, Lance would come for the rescue. He’s not alone, because Eric thought the same thing. He was on full alert, waiting to see how Cyrus would react in this situation.“Why… Why did you hit me?” C
Jane texted Lance that it will take a little bit long before she and Haidee could come back. And so, Lance told everyone left in the golf field. “Jane texted me that she and Haidee will be late.” Eric flaunted a frown while holding the golf club. What did Jane text Lance instead of him? Because they had to act as lovers? That’s right. Jane chose Lance for that reason. And she thought Eric would understand it. Apparently, he did not. Jane and Haidee sat on a bench while enjoying the vast green field. Staying under the huge shade, Haidee couldn’t look at Jane. ‘How can I look into her eyes after finding out that Cyrus likes her?’ She felt betrayed. Even so, Haidee could not hate her. Why is that? ‘Because she saved my life and comforted me many times.’ “I wanted to apologize first.” Jane spoke but Haidee kept her eyes at the North. “I didn’t mean to overhear your conversation with Cyrus a moment ago. So, I’m sorry.” Haidee didn’t reply and only sighed. “Don’t believe what
