“I should be the one asking you that, Elaine,” he bristled, his eyes glazing over as he observed my dressing critically. “What are you doing here?”

My heart lurched at his cruel tone. “Don't look at me that way. You know why I'm here. For my interview. To work. I can't take your absurd requests seriously.”
