Chapter 5

Inn

Tahimik kami buong biyahe. I would prefer it that way anyway. But it bothers me so much that we’re here breathing the same air. I sighed as I looked at the window. Nakita ko ang unti-unting pagpatak ng ulan sa bintana.

It’s raining. Hindi nagtagal, lumakas lalo ang ulan. Ramdam ko ang malakas na pagkabog ng aking puso. Why do I feel something different? Something wrong?

Nang lumakas pa lalo ang ulan, doon na ako kinabahan. The last time I checked, bukas pa sa hapon ang bagyo. Ano? Nagbago isip ng bagyo at ngayon pa talaga?! Ngayon pa na kasama ko si Teo?!

“Shit,” rinig kong mura ni Teo.

Napalingon ako sa harap. Talagang halos wala ka nang makita sa labas. We can’t drive like this. The manor is in the mountain side of this city. Malamang sa malamang, nagfo-fog na doon. I might get stuck with Teo!

Agaran kong kinapa ang purse at kinuha ang phone ko. I immediately went to social media and check any updates with the weather. Binasa ko na lahat na mga articles. Looks like the typhoon has entered the PAR earlier than expected.

I immediately called for my driver. Nakauwi kaya si Gracy? Agad din namang sinagot ang tawag ko.

“Nakauwi na ba kayo ni Gracy?” diretsa ko.

“Opo, ma’am. Bago lang. Pero baka matagalan po akong makabalik d’yan. Malakas na po ang ulan dito at nagfo-fog narin po, ma’am.”

I knew it. Tumango ako at napabuntong hininga.

“I’m with someone, Manong…” lumingon ako kay Teo at napalingon din ito sa akin.

Napalunok ako. “We’ll try to get there kapag hihina na ang ulan.”

“Mahirap na po makapunta dito, ma’am. Muntik narin kaming naaksidente kaya mas mabuti na ‘wag muna tumuloy, ma’am.”

Napapikit ako. Damn it. Nakita kong tumigil na sa pagmamaneho si Teo. He stopped by some inn. Kinabahan agad ako. Mukhang alam ko na ang sunod na mangyayari. I swallowed hard.

“He’s right, Zell. It’s not safe for us to continue. It’s better if we stay somewhere safe in the meantime.”

Mabigat akong bumuntong hininga. I bit my lip and fidgeted with my fingers.

“Si Sir Hunyo po ba kasama niyo, ma’am? Ire-report ko nalang po sa—”

“No! No… I’m with someone else right now. W-we’ll just stay somewhere safe. Just report to me if there’s a way I can get home pronto.”

As much as possible, I want to go home. Away from him. From his scent and presence. I don’t like the way it’s affecting me.

Lumabas na rin kami sa sasakyan at pumasok na sa inn. Malakas rin pala ang ulan. The wind almost blew me away. Buti nahawakan ako nang mahigpit ni Teo. The moment we were already sheltered, binitawan ko kaagad ang kamay niya.

I immediately headed to the receptionist.

“I’ll have two rooms, please.”

“I’m sorry, ma’am. We currently have one room available,” the receptionist politely said.

“What?”

“We’ll take it,” Teo immediately handed his card.

“What?”

“Sure, sir,” biglaang lumapad ang ngiti ng babae.

Napanganga ako. Napakurap-kurap at bumaling ulit sa receptionist na malapad na nakangiti. Tumikhim ako to catch her attention.

“Two beds, right?”

Bumalik sa polite smile ang receptionist. It annoyed me. Ano? ‘Yong malapad niya na ngiti para lang sa mga katulad ni Teo?!

“The room only has one, ma’am.”

“We’ll ask for an extra bed.”

Lumingon ang receptionist kay Teo like she’s asking for his confirmation. It only made me irritated. Nilingunan ko si Teo. He saw my annoyed face. Bumuntong hininga ito at tumango sa receptionist. I rolled my eyes.

Nang nabigyan na kami ng susi, ako na ang kumuha. Nahagilap pa ng mata ko na kinausap pa ni Teo ang receptionist. The receptionist smiled slyly at him which only made me annoyed even more. Teo’s boyish smile to the receptionist made me grit my teeth.

Kung gusto niyang makipaglandian sa receptionist, he’s free to do that. Basta kapag nilock ko ang room, hindi ko na ‘yon bubuksan. Bahala na siya.

Iyon pa naman ang plano ko pero nang isasarado ko na sana ang pintuan, naabutan pa talaga niya. Umiwas agad ako at tumalikod.

“You walked fast. Hindi mo ako hinintay.”

I scoffed quietly.

“Naulanan ako. Kailangan kong maligo.”

Hindi ko na hinintay pa ang sagot niya. I walked straight to the bathroom. Wala pa naman akong dalang damit kaya napatunganga na lamang ako sa salamin. I looked at myself. My make up is a bit smudged already. Una ka na ‘yong tinanggal.

Buti nalang at nakakita ako ng robe. I took of my clothes and started to take a shower. It took me roughly an hour to finish cleaning myself. Sinuot ko na ang robe ko at pinatuyo na ang damit ko. I only have the robe on me, nothing else.

Lumabas ako sa bathroom na may paperbag sa kama. Lumingon ako kay Teo.

“I requested clothes for you.”

Binuksan ko ang paperbag. Napanganga ako kung ano ang bumungad sa akin. I took out the small piece of cloth. Napatawa ako. I showed it to him.

“Seriously?” pinakita ko sa kan’ya ang lingerie.

Pati siya hindi makapaniwala sa nakita. Umiling ako. Hindi na ako nagsalita. Binalik ko ang lingerie sa paperbag at humiga na sa kama at pumikit.

“I’ll change it.”

“Huwag na.”

Kinuha niya ang paperbag at pumusok sa bathroom. Narinig ko pa ang shower sa loob. Nang palabas na siya sa bathroom biglang nawalan ng ilaw. Mukhang may blackout pa talaga. Wala akong makita. I stood up and walked somewhere when I bumped something hard.

“Careful,”

I felt his arms wrapped around my waist. Agad akong umatras at umiwas. I could smell him and it’s making me crazy.

Suminghap ako.

“I’ll look for a flashlight or a candle,” wika ko at lumakad sa kabilang direksyon ngunit nabangga parin ako sa kan’ya. I swallowed hard when my palms touched his chest.

“It’s better if we’ll just wait for our eyes to get used to the dark.”

Tumango ako. Aatras na sana ako pero naramdaman ko na ang kama sa aking likod. I could hear my heart beating so loud. I bit my lower lip and tried to distance myself.

Nang nagsimula nang nasanay ang aking mata sa dilim, bumalik naman ang ilaw. Nanliit ang mata ko pero unti-unti ring luminaw ang pananaw ko.

Slowly, my vision got clearer and realized how we were close to each other. Napalunok ako. I stared at his eyes pero hindi ito nakatingin sa akin. I followed the direction of his eyes and they directed to my shoulder. Kumunot ang noo ko.

I looked at my shoulder and realized the other side of my robe had already fallen. My nipple was already peaking. My lips parted and I felt my throat dry, wanting something. I faced him but my eyes ended up in his intense eyes looking at my lips.

Napatingin ako sa kan’yang labi. It’s red. Napalunok ako. My eyes went back to his. My honor is hanging in a piece of thread and I don’t think I can hold it in.

“Fuck this,” I said as my lips touched his.
