FORTY FIVE – TRUST AND THORNS

I bury my face in Mason's neck, content to just let him hold me as I breathe him in. I am still a shivering, shaking mess, but he presses my face into his chest, hogging me to him like I'm some fragile, precious ornament. I feel my heart gradually turn to melted butter.

"What ever this is, princess, we'll fight it together. You and I." His voice is a soft, soothing rumble beneath my ear, and I find myself nodding in agreement before I even totally hear what he has to say.

"You have to trust me, Mira."

I freeze against him.

Trust? Do I trust Mason Lachlan?

Images of Mason hovering over me and threatening the doctors when I had a panic attack at Las Vegas assail my memory, Mason carrying me in his arms through a burning house when I was kidnapped last year, Mason holding me whenever I have a panic attack….

He had no responsibility towards me during those times. He had the option of leaving me behind to rot when I was kidnapped, but he still came back for me. So do I trust Mason
