Chapter 43 Let me help

Dinner wasn't over by the time Lucas pulled Evelyn out of there but he couldn’t stand the atmosphere anymore. They were all pretending like they weren't lunatics just a few minutes ago.

She didn't know why he decided to leave early but she didn't mind it. She sat quietly in the car, looking out the window, oblivious to Lucas staring at her from the rearview mirror.

Her words at the table waltzed back into his head and he chuckled. A while ago he was getting pissed at his old man's yell but she managed to calm the storm. There were sides to her he was yet to see, as it seems.

"Is there anything you want?" he asked, keeping his eyes on the road.

"I'm hungry," she sighed. "I didn’t get the chance to eat that delicious looking pie- ugh!" she groaned, as if in pain. She had been looking forward to it.

It was a nice feast back there. They may all have shitty attitudes but she knew that pie would make her feel much better.
