The crowd slowly dispersed as soon as the ambulance left with Cade and Cruz and soon, Jessica was alone sitting on the ground.
"This is all my fault! I shouldn't have been so harsh!" She kept mumbling to herself as she bit her lower lip. She stared blankly at the ground forgetting that she was in the school area until a young lady in a red mini gown and a black ankle strap pump walked towards her and bent down to tap her shoulder, her long black hair sweeping Jessica's face briefly.
Jessica panicked upon her touch as she was tugged back to reality.
"Miss Vegas, are you alright?" Miss Willow asked as she helped her to her feet.
"I-I...I'm fine." Jessica stuttered.
"Is this your first time witnessing an accident?" She wondered but Jessica was too shocked to speak as she just kept staring into space.
Mr. Willow is a Chemistry teacher for the 12th graders and she shares the same office with her so she helped her to their office and her desk.
"What is wrong with her?" Miss Caleb, another staff member who was a physics teacher, asked.
"She witnessed Cade's accident. I think she's highly traumatized." Miss Willow explained.
"Oh, that means she can't even open her phone because the gruesome picture is all over the internet." Miss Caleb remarked.
"What? All over the internet? That's gross. He's only a kid struggling with his life at the moment. Why would they already have those gruesome pictures all over the internet?" Jessica finally spoke up.
"Tsk...welcome to a high-class world." The two teachers chorused.
"Can I go…" Her voice trailed off by the buzzing of the landline on her desk.
"A call for you." Miss Caleb gestured to her table and she ran to get it.
"You see what you caused?" Mr. Logan's cold and shaky voice hit her ear.
"Kids are fragile and they hurt easily. You were just too harsh towards him and now, he's over there struggling for his life. I hope you're satisfied now." He reprimanded angrily.
"Sir, I…" She could barely form a sentence before he ended the call.
Jessica felt her heart sink into her stomach and her legs failed her again making her almost fall to the ground if not for the intervention of Miss Willow and Caleb.
"God, Miss Vegas, be careful." Miss Willow warned.
"Who was that?" Miss Caleb inquired.
"I need to go home!" Jessica exclaimed.
"Yeah! You really need some rest. I will drop you." Mr. Bowen, who was just joining them, offered.
"That's great. We will help you take a sick leave." Miss Willow suggested.
"Thank you, guys! I'm really grateful." Jessica managed to say before she followed Mr. Bowen outside to his car.
A few minutes ride and you were in front of your apartment in the One Estates.
Jessica was so stressed out that she couldn't even thank or wave at Mr. Bowen before hurrying into the house.
She rushed over to the washroom after dropping her bags and removing her sneakers scattered throughout the living and she began puking until she could vomit all she ate the whole day.
"God! Please let him be fine!" Jessica whimpered as she washed her face in the washing sink.
Her breath and pulse quickened as thoughts of Cade crowded her mind.
Forget about Cruz's wrath, she'd never be able to forgive herself if something happens to him.
Cold sweat broke through her body and slowly, she was finding it difficult to breathe.
She fell to the ground and just underneath the sink then she crawled towards the bathtub and curled into her fetal position inside the bathtub before letting the water from the shower drizzle on her.
She cried in excruciating pain as flashbacks of Cade's condition crowded her mind. A sharp pain seared through her heart and she could feel it splitting into million pieces.
All through the day, she remained in the bathtub bawling out her heart until Leah finally returned from work.
By then, Jessica already passed out and her neutral olive skin turned pale.
Seeing how Jessica's things were littering the house, Leah knew something was wrong. She called out to her severally until she finally went into her bathroom.
"Jessica, what is wrong with you?" She panicked as she saw her lying unconscious inside the bathtub. She quickly turned off the shower and supported her out of it.
With much difficulty, Leah successfully pulled Leah out and helped her down the stairs of their two-story luxurious apartment down to where the car was parked in the compound.
She quickly used the remote to open the gate after taking Jessica into the car.
In a few minutes, she was at the Estate's clinic and with the help of the nurse, Jessica was admitted to a ward where she was being attended to.
Leah was very devastated by Jessica's condition and to worsen it, she had no idea what could have caused her to do that to herself when she left home cheerfully earlier.
She sat on the bench outside the ward while Jessica was being attended to and she packed her short blonde hair into a messy ponytail before dipping her hand into the right pocket of her navy blue wide-leg pants to bring out her phone to make a call. Her white halter strap crop top and pants were already wet from carrying Jessica but she could only care less.
"Tyler! I need you to come over to our place." She panicked in a shaky voice that was hard not to notice.
"What's wrong, Leah? What happened to you?" Tyler asked, his voice filled with so much concern and worry.
"I...I-It Jessie. Just come over to the Estate's clinic." She replied.
"Ok! Just calm down, I'm on my way." He confirmed and quickly ended the call.
She tapped her feet rigorously on the ground and she constantly nuzzled her hair back and forth as she gritted her teeth while she anticipated the doctor's comment and Tyler's presence.
WESTHAM PHARMACEUTICAL, INC. LA.
Cade was rushed from the ambulance into the Emergency Operation room of Westham Pharmaceuticals on the first fall but Cruz was stopped in front of the door.
'What are you doing? Oh...my surgical wears, I can't think about that now let me just go in." Cruz panicked.
"No, son. You ain't conducting the operation, Dr. Campbell will conduct it." Mrs. Robert, a chubby woman in her late 50s who was usually referred to as 'Big Mommy' said.
Mrs. Robert was a chubby woman with short blonde hair with porcelain skin and marble gray eyes. She was a scrub nurse in Cruz's surgical team and well-loved and respected by every staff in the hospital including Cruz himself.
"What are you saying? You know there is no better surgeon than me in this hospital." Cruz claimed, nuzzling his fluffy dark golden brown hair from time to time.
"I understand that Cruz, but you are not in the right mind now. You trust Val, don't you? She will surely make this surgery a success and our whole team will support her." Mrs. Robertreassured.
"No! I have to…" Cruz was still talking when Mrs. Robertnodded her head slightly towards a nurse behind Cruz's and she quickly injected Cruz.
"W-what…was that?" Cruz asked before he slowly lost his consciousness and balance, falling towards Big Mommy.
Two other nurses pushed a new stretcher toward Cruz and he was immediately laid on it. They knew well that Cruz would never agree to stay out of the operation room even though he was already practically losing his mind so they had to take extreme measures. "Take him upstairs, and place a few securities there until we are done here." Mrs. Robertinstructed and the nurse did as instructed before she also entered the Operation room. Some nurses prepared the main VIP operation room on the third floor. Soon a few notable surgeons at the hospital surrounded the operation room and each taking turns to be the first and second surgery assistants for the operating surgeon. A few hours to midnight and Cruz woke up to find himself laying on a medium-sized hospital bed in the VIP ward. "Cade!" He called out as he jumped up from the bed and walked toward him Just when he attempted to open the door, Mrs. Robertpushed the door open first. "Where is Cade? Did you already perform the surgery?
"What is wrong with you now?" Leah asked worriedly as she hurried into the room and met Jessica holding the wooden chair beside the table for support. Jessica was lost in thought for a while. "What if something bad really happens to him? How will I ever be able to forgive myself?" She thought aloud, her head dropped down in guilt. "Jessica! You think too much! Westham Pharmaceutical is the best hospital in LA with great doctors like Cruz himself. Cade will be fine. The best you can do is pray for him." Leah advised, removing Jessica's hands from the table and holding them. Jessica slowly raised her head and her teary eyes met Leah's worried ones. Leah raised her hand and wiped off her tears, "Let's join, Tyler now or he will be worried. " She suggested, gesturing to the door and Jessica sluggishly dragged her feet out. Even though Jessica tried to take her mind off him for a moment, it was just so impossible, and immediately after she had noticed Tyler and Leah were done wi
Even though Cruz was laughing, his eyes and body language say otherwise and this scared the hell out of Jessica making her hesitate in grabbing his hands. "Come on!" He smiled, gesturing for her to grasp it. With much difficulty and hesitance, she slowly stretched out her right arm and as soon as her fingers caressed Cruz's open palm, he grabbed them and pulled her towards Cade's bed forcefully. "Yesterday, this was what you succeeded in doing. Now…" He paused to inhale deeply as a way of calming himself down. "...Cade has gone into a coma and now he will definitely fail his exams because he won't even be able to participate in it just like you prophesied. You must have seen this coming right?" He inquired, purposely intimidating her. "Mr. Westham, I…" Jessica dropped her head down as she couldn't utter a clear word because of the huge lump that had suddenly developed in her throat from trying to hold in her pain but Cruz only saw this as a pretense. With two of his fingers,
"What will you say to him?" Cruz asked as calmly as he could as soon as Jessica answered the call. "I-I…I will apologize to him, I will tell him other things I can probably do for him just give me a chance, please!" She pleaded. Silence ensued between them for a while before Cruz broke it. "Come to the hospital tomorrow after your classes but make sure you don't lose it and begin to say hurtful things to him aga…" "I understand Mr. Westham, I will definitely be there tomorrow!" She replied happily, interrupting Cruz. Before she could thank him for the offer, he ended the call just like the first time. "I'm doing this just to rid myself of this guilt cramped up in my heart, don't think I will ever forget the pain you caused me, Mr. Westham!" She mumbled to herself before going into the bathroom to wash up and change into her nighties. The next morning, Jessica left for the school in a peach-colored mini T-shirt dress with maroon sneakers and a round purse to match. She wa
TWO WEEKS LATER Jessica couldn't make Cade wake up in the seven days she requested and since then, Cruz banned her from entering Cade's room again and made sure that the security agents see to it. Jessica continued her classes even though it hurt and was uncomfortable but that fateful morning, she was shocked to see Cade sitting in the class when she went in to teach. For a moment she thought it was her usual hallucinations but she never imagined Cade with a band-aid around his head which made it more believable that he was real. She walked down to his desk to take a clearer look, "I'm sure I have served my punishment of two weeks outside your class. Are you still going to send me out?" Cade asked curiously. Jessica's eyes were welled up so she quickly raised her gaze and cleaned up her tears to avoid embarrassing herself in front of the students. "Definitely not!" She replied with a smile. "Welcome back, and I hope we have a fresh new start!" She cheered as she traced he
Jessica turned around to finally have a look at Cruz whose face was standing akimbo and scowling at her with a reddened face and clenched jaw. "Me? A Nar…Narcissistic? Mm-Manwhore…?" He stuttered in disbelief. "Well, Mr. Westham…how have you been?" She questioned amidst erroneous chuckles as she stood up to her feet, standing just a few feet away from him. 'Jessica, what are you saying? There's no need to feel intimidated around him anymore, Cade is alive and recovering rapidly!" She cautioned herself. "My brother has been doing great ever since my recovery," Cade answered in Cruz's place as he was still quite flustered by Jessica's insults. "So what do you think, brother? You are going to accept the condition right? You wouldn't want me to fail, right?" He asked further, compromising Cruz into a place where he would have no choice but to accept. "Do I even have a say? It's obvious you already made up your mind to bring her home, I will do well to stay away so can we leave n
"Look, Brother, it's not even for long. I can stay here on my own until you're back. I can take…" "No! That's not happening! Especially not after you've just had an accident. I can't leave you here all by yourself and Karen can't stay with you either because he is out of the country." Cruz explained, interrupting Cade. "But you wouldn't want our parents to know about my accident. What will happen to that if I go home with these band-aids?" Cade asked again and because he was getting too worked up, his head began to hurt and he began to massage it. Cruz became worried and this only confirmed Cade won't be able to take care of himself. "You didn't take your drugs this morning, right?" He asked, narrowing his eyes at him. Cade quickly dropped his face, trying to hide his lips which always reddened when he was lying. "I-I…swallowed it after the meal you gave me. You saw me earlier, didn't…" "You threw it out, right? And you still expect me to let you stay here for a whole week a
"Are you serious about that?" Cade finally asked after a few minutes of awkward silence. "Well…I made a promise and I should see to it being fulfilled to the best of my ability. But I'm not sure your brother will agree to that." Jessica replied, scratching her hair lightly with her face dropped down. "Brother, say something!" Cade instructed Cruz who was still looking at Jessica in disbelief. "I-I…know she'd take good care of you but are you sure you're okay with this?" He asked Cade. "Of course, I'm okay with it!" Cade exclaimed happily. "If you both are okay with it, then it's fine with me. I will make sure to be back as soon as I can." Cruz revealed. Cade was so excited that she hugged Jessica tightly after which he followed his brother to help him pack for his trip. Jessica was shown into an empty room in the house after which Cruz explained to her all she had to know about the house and also Cade's medications. Once Cruz left for the airport, Jessica called Leah and
