CORA
Being alone with Reign gave me a pleasant feeling, one that I had never experienced before. But it all changed when she walked in. Once again, I recognized his fiancee as she called out his name, her face frozen in shock.I suddenly felt like the other woman, cheap and guilty but this was in stark contrast with Reign who did not show any guilty expression. He let go of my knees and got up. Turning to stare at Miss Lisa, he smiled, "You're here? I would expect you to be very busy at this time."The expression on Lisa's face changed and she smiled back. I heaved a sigh of relief, seeing that the situation was calm.Lisa walked up to Reign and kissed his cheek, and I took that as my cue to leave. It seemed like her presence made him uncomfortable from the look on his face but that could just be my assumption.Pointing at me, he said to Lisa, "This is Cora, my friend. Cora, meet Lisa; we became friends even before we learned how to walk."I smiled at Lisa and she smiled back. I walked closer to shake her hand but she suddenly moved toward Reign's table and placed the food flask on it, saying, "I know you didn't have breakfast so I brought this for you, Reign.""I will be taking my leave now," I said, forcing myself to give them some privacy."Let me see you off," Reign offered and moved closer to me.I was surprised because his fiancee was present and leaving her behind to see me off was bound to upset her. However, she nodded and said, "Take care, Cora. I'll be waiting for you, Reign."Reign walked me out of his office and toward the elevator. I wanted to proceed to the stairs but he held my hand and said, "Let's use the elevator."I shook my head, refusing to use the elevator. However, he pulled me into the elevator with him.Once it began to descend, I screamed in fear and my body shivered while I dropped the bags I held in my hand. He pulled me toward his body and hugged me tightly. At that moment, I felt safe. My arms circled his back, and my nose, buried in his chest, inhaled his scent. Meanwhile, he stroked my hair and rubbed my back gently as he whispered, "It's okay. You're okay, Cora, I'm here with you."Once the elevator stopped, I looked up at him and he smiled at me, "You will overcome your fear in no time.""Thank you very much," I replied.I picked up my bags and we both walked out of the elevator. I looked around, not finding the section familiar.Seeing the expression on my face, he said, "This elevator is meant for just me and anyone else I choose, so the exit is different."I nodded as I recalled how I had waited outside for him the previous day, but he left without my notice. This explained why I couldn't see him.I said goodbye to him and began to hurry back home, eager to check my mail and see all the benefits a secretary like me would enjoy in FLETCHER CONGLOMERATES.About an hour later, I sat in front of my computer stunned that I was going to get allowances, and a new car, and my monthly pay seemed too good to be true. In two months I would be able to get a new apartment and move out of Lucas' house.Reign was such an amazing man. Things were turning out well for me, all thanks to him and I couldn't wait to share it with my best friend who had briefly traveled out of the city.I recalled how Reign made me feel special and blushed. Was that how he treated women in general or was he being particularly nice to me? His fiancee was really lucky. Seeing how long they had been together, their relationship was certainly bound to last forever.I squealed at the top of my voice in excitement when a red Hyundai SUV was delivered to my house, courtesy of Reign. After signing and receiving the keys, I called his number and he picked up on the first ring."Thank you so much, Reign," I beamed. "This is a dream come true.""You're welcome," he replied."What would you like for breakfast tomorrow?" I asked."Contrary to what I said earlier, I'm not a picky eater," he replied. "I'll eat whatever you make as long as it's good.""That makes two of us," I told him. "I should head to the grocery store now and get everything ready."After the call ended, I excitedly got into my new car and went grocery shopping. On the way, I recalled Reign's fiancee bringing breakfast for him and wondered how she would feel if she brought it the next day as well only to find out that I'd already made him breakfast."Stop overthinking," I told myself. "Perhaps it's something they have both already agreed on."The next morning, I woke up earlier than usual and put in extra care as I made breakfast for Reign. After making it, I dashed into my room and got ready for work.I went into the kitchen ready to dish out the food into a fancy food flask I had bought for Reign but then Lucas came into the kitchen and exclaimed, "Wow! I almost mistook my house for a restaurant."I turned after dishing the food and stared at him while he continued with a smile on his face, "Come on, Cora, you shouldn't have gone through the trouble of cooking for me. It wasn't in the agreement so it's not your obligation. However, I appreciate it and I've never been able to turn away from good food. I can tell from the aroma."I stared at him with an amused expression until he asked, "What's going on?""I was just wondering when you joined the circus," I replied. "Seeing that you are trying to become a clown."He stared at me in surprise while I chuckled, "Why would I cook for you, Lucas? You just confirmed that it wasn't in the agreement so what are you doing?"He folded his arms, "Really? So who's this for?""Me and my boss," I replied. He scoffed, "You're cooking for your boss? That is unethical, dimwit. Why are you letting your boss exploit you?""Stop barking like a dog and get out of my way," I replied. "My affairs have nothing to do with you, Lucas.""I'm afraid they do," he replied. "You are my wife in the eyes of the law and my family. You should learn to carry yourself respectfully. Also, the car I saw outside, who does it belong to?"I sighed, "That car belongs to me. It was given to me by the boss of the company where I work. The same boss who supposedly exploits me."He gasped in surprise, "Are you having an affair with your boss?"I moved closer to him, "And what if I am?"He pointed his finger at me, gritting his teeth, "Do not push me, Cora."I took a step back. He was right. I would gain nothing by fighting with him. I didn't want to be late on my first day and I wanted to live peacefully until I had enough money to get my own apartment.I smiled, "I am not having an affair with my boss, Lucas. Satisfied?"He nodded, "Yeah, that's better."I moved to the side to walk away but he grabbed my arm and said, "I'm not being petty or anything but this food was prepared in my house, my kitchen to be precise. I think it's only proper for me to get a share as well, especially since it smells delicious."I sighed, "Fine."I scooped what was left into a plate and gave it to him.""Thanks," he said and walked away. I looked at the time and heaved a sigh of relief when I noticed that I still had one hour before work began. When I arrived at the company, I opened the elevator doors but was too scared to use it without Reign so once again, I used the stairs to his office.I wasn't as tired as I had felt the previous day, thanks to the fact that I was putting on flats. I went into Reign's office and was surprised at the new arrangement. There was a new table and chair with two computers on the table. Reign was drawing on a piece of paper with a pen when I walked in.He quickly hid the paper and got up once he heard me."Good morning, Cora," he gushed. "I see you are quite punctual. You came even before the official opening time. I'm impressed."I smiled, "Good morning, and, thank you very much, Reign. I've always taken my work seriously. Here, I got breakfast for you."I placed the food flask on his table like his fiancee had done the previous day. He thanked me and pointed at the new table, as he added, "That's your table. You will be working from there so you can easily attend to me when the need arises."I nodded, surprised by his arrangement. I had never seen or heard of the boss of a big company sharing an office with his secretary. However, I was very pleased with this arrangement. I knew I could never be with Reign because he already had a fiancée. And even if he did not, I certainly wasn't beautiful enough to catch his attention in such a way.Being able to spend my day staring at him and basking in my one-sided love was a privilege not everyone could afford.I watched in glee as he ate my food enjoyably, heaping praises on my culinary skills."I look forward to enjoying such delicious meals daily," he told me. "As long as it's not a bother.""It's certainly not," I replied. "It means a lot to me that you enjoyed it.I took the food flask out to wash it and when I got back, Reign was engrossed in his work. I sat at my table, staring at him with both hands on my cheeks, admiring how sexy he looked even when he was working. He unexpectedly looked up at caught me gawking at him. He smiled and I lowered my head as I felt embarrassed.I decided to familiarize myself with the history of the company. However, even as I stared at the monitor in front of me, I could barely read a thing.I kept stealing glances at him and he caught me so many times. Each time, he would smile and I would look away in embarrassment. My mind was all over the place and it made me wonder whether my head would be able to function properly if I continued being in such proximity with my boss.I was grateful when the time came to have lunch and I got the opportunity to leave the office and head to the company's cafeteria. As I went down the stairs, I recalled that it was my duty to get Reign's lunch and quickly called him, but he said he was busy and not ready to eat yet.As I arrived at the cafeteria, I was surprised to discover that I was the subject of attention and gossip. I had no idea why everyone was staring at, me and pointing fingers at me. I quietly ate my food and went back to Reign's office. When I walked in, I saw him sleeping with his back leaning on his chair and his head tilting to the side. I quickly went to help him adjust his neck but the moment I touched his face, his eyes shot open.He stared at me in surprise and I found myself frozen, unable to take any step. His expression changed to a smile as his eyes drilled into mine. Once again, I felt time stop. Our faces began to draw closer but I couldn't tell if I was the one moving or if he was.Just as our lips got very close, almost touching, his phone rang. I quickly stood erect and walked back to my seat as though I was being controlled by a remote. My heart was beating so fast that I thought it would explode. I didn't understand what had just happened but I did not dare to make eye contact with him anymore.I forced myself to read the boring history of FLETCHER CONGLOMERATES and only looked up when the clock struck four.I noticed he was staring at me and smiled. "I'm done for the day, Reign. I'll see you tomorrow." I said and picked up my bag."Okay, Cora. Take care," he replied.I took the stairs down to the exit and headed for the parking lot. My mind was still replaying the scene of our lips almost touching, and I was barely aware of my surroundings.I opened the door of my car and was just about to get inside when someone forcefully closed it from behind me.I turned and saw Reign's fiancée, Lisa. I smiled at her and said, "Hey, Lisa."She stared at me condescendingly and scoffed, "What makes you think you have the right to address me informally? This is the only time I will warn you; stay away from my man, Cora.Reign has always been mine and that will never change. I heard you are married...hmm, you are shameless and a disgrace to women. If you cling to my man, I will disgrace you before the whole world. You have no idea what I am capable of, Cora. If you want to find out the hard way, I dare you to try me."Without saying a word, I stared at her in surprise as she turned and arrogantly walked away.CORAI drove back home with a sad expression on my face because somewhere inside of me, I believed that Lisa was right. In the eyes of the law and the world, I was a married woman. Despite knowing that Reign was engaged to her, I was harboring romantic feelings for him and daydreaming about him. She had every right to be upset with me.When I got home, I thought deeply about it and decided to take Lisa's warning. It wasn't that I was scared of her. I knew how much Reign hated to be the subject of gossip or negative news, and if Lisa tried to bring me down, his name would be mentioned too. The fact that she pretended to like me in front of him, meant that she would never make good on her threat. However, I did not want to come between a happy couple. Not that I had the ability to, but if my actions were enough to make her feel insecure, then I had to take a step back.I thought about how best to do this and concluded that the best way was to avoid Reign as much as possible. For that to
CORAI briefly thought about what to do. More than anything else, I wanted to be freed from that marriage so I wouldn't have to deal with Lucas and that bratty sister of mine. The opportunity was too good to pass up on but so was having dinner with Reign."I'll get back to you," I replied and hung up.Looking at Reign whose unconcealed gaze was focused on me, I smiled and said, "Thank you for the day off, Reign. If it's okay, I will leave right away.""Take care," he replied before turning his attention back to the files on his table. I walked out of his office slowly, knowing that it would be the last time I would get the privilege of sharing an office with him.I took the stairs, went down, and drove back home.Avery and Lucas were sitting on the patio having drinks and playing with each other. It was obvious he didn't go to work and she was wearing his T-shirt. They looked cute together.Seeing them together made me remember Lucas' words. He had told me that Avery was the one who s
CORAI was almost fifty minutes late for my dinner date with Reign and I felt a knot in my stomach at the thought of him being upset with me.I abruptly got up, to the surprise of everyone, and said, "I'm so sorry, Grandfather. An emergency has come up, can I leave to take care of it?""Of course you can," he replied.I thanked him and bolted out of the house without saying a word to Lucas. On my way out, I heard his grandfather say, "Go after her and make sure she is okay."I thought about calling Reign but I was afraid that he would fire me on the spot for keeping him waiting. I regretted not driving my car. I should never have listened to Lucas.Just as I got to the gate, someone pulled me behind. I turned and saw Lucas. He seemed angry and gritted, "What the hell do you think you are doing, Cora? How dare you lie to my grandfather and ruin my chances of getting my inheritance today? Avery just confirmed that there's no emergency from your family."I couldn't understand why he was s
REIGN I sat in the hotel garden waiting for Cora and for the first time in my life, I felt nervous because of a woman. The past few days had been thrilling. Getting a taste of her food and enjoying it had made me very happy. Even if she turned out to be a bad cook, I guess I would have still been happy to eat from her.I had dropped a few hints, like deliberately waiting downstairs for her so we could ride the elevator together and seeing her off from my office after work, but she didn't catch on. Generally, secretaries weren't given cars by companies but I gave her a beautiful one because I realized she was going through a difficult time and wanted to make her life easier.I noticed that Lisa suddenly frequenting my office and bringing me breakfast was getting in my way. I could not understand what she was trying to do. She had known for a long time about my breakfast preference but she never did anything about it. I wasn't expecting her to, because I understood she was a busy person
CORAGrowing up I believed in one fact; no matter how dark the sky gets and no matter how much it rains, the sun will smile at me, at least once. I thought that happened when I met Lucas but I thought wrong. As I stared at Reign; the first man in whose eyes I was the most beautiful woman in the world, I made a silent promise to myself. For as long as I lived, I would only let go of him if he let go of me first. Reign who seemed like an unreachable star in the clouds wanted a chance to be in my life. Exactly how could I let him know the extent of my love for him? Even if the sky fell down, no one would separate me from him.Tears filled my eyes as I managed the words my brain could conjure up at one of the most important moments of my life. Little did I know that my nemesis for being naive and foolish, would get in my way.The pleasant expression on my face disappeared and my eyes darkened as Lucas angrily strode toward me. 'What gave him the right to tail me and how dare he get angry
REIGN I carried Cora in my arms out of the garden. What I had planned to be a special moment ended up being ruined by the scum who called himself her husband. I could see Cora's pain, just as I could see that she was trying really hard not to break down.I passed my car and walked over to hers. "Where are your keys?" I asked."In my bag," She replied.I realized she had left her bag behind and made her stand on her feet. "Just wait here, okay? I'll be right back." I said to her before walking back to the garden. I saw Lucas, who had just gotten up from the ground, and ignored him.He stared at me silently as I walked toward the table and picked up Cora's bag. I began to leave afterward but stopped, turned, and said to him, "Cora is mine and that will never change. In the future, refrain from disrespecting her privately or publicly otherwise, I wouldn't be as lenient as I was today. This is your first and last warning."He eyed me cautiously as though he was afraid I was going to atta
CORAAs I drove away, I tried to steady my hands which were shivering. Seeing Reign's ex-girlfriend made me feel a little guilty, even though he had told me that I wasn't the reason why they broke up.It was obvious she was still in love with him, but what could I do? If Reign were also in love with her, I would voluntarily walk away with a broken heart. However, he wanted me. It was only natural for me to choose myself over Lisa. She could make good on her threat if she wished, but I would not give up Reign because of her. I too deserved to be loved by the man I loved. I deserved happiness.I couldn't deny though that I felt a little uneasy leaving the both of them together, but it was the best I could do.When Reign carried me into my car and told me he was taking me home, my mind had imagined so many scenarios of how the night would turn out. I had even imagined what would happen if Reign wanted me to share his bed.Yes, it would be sudden but I would have gladly given myself to h
REIGNAfter Cora left, I stood outside my house for a long time thinking about the best way to handle Lisa. In the end, I still had to consider a lot of things, which meant I needed to choose my words carefully. The moment I went back inside, Lisa got up and took off her robe again. I gulped as I froze on the spot, staring at her."Reign, I don't want to hold back anymore," she said as she walked closer to me.Listening to her words, I recalled when we graduated college. At the time, I was so crazy about her that she was the only girl I thought about. That night, we had a party at my parent's house and drank a lot. I was so turned on that when she went into my room with me, I desired to get intimate with her. However, she told me that she didn't want to take that step until we got married. I stopped myself and never tried to touch her in that way again. We merely held hands and kissed briefly. That would have been enough if our feelings felt mutual. She was always aloof where I was c
MIRANDA The expression on the faces of everyone turned into shock. Seeing that I looked serious, the lady at the counter said, "Calm down, Ma'am. I will call Mr. Duke right away and inform him."At this point, a man walked up to the counter. From the way he was dressed and the way all the employees at the counter greeted him respectfully, I could tell he was a prominent figure. One of the employees picked up a card from a bunch on the counter and handed it to the man, saying, "Here's an invitation to the boss' launch party tonight. It's mandatory to show up with the invitation, sir."The man smiled and accepted the invitation card, saying, "Thank you, I will surely be at the party."As the man turned and began to walk away, I stared at the heap of cards and thought, "So that arrogant man is throwing a party, huh? I wonder how he would react if I gate crashed it. Would he send me back home just as I want?"I suddenly became excited as I thought about what I could do at the party."I'm
MIRANDA My so called husband stared at me in shock and scoffed, "What effrontery!""Sammy, what are you still doing? Throw this piece of trash out of my house before I lose it."I rolled my eyes, "As if I want to be here! You must be crazy upstairs, which explains why you can't speak without raising your voice, old man. Pick on someone your own size and news flash, I would be more than happy to leave this place."A few other domestic staff had arrived at this point and they were all staring in surprise. The man looked at me in shock as though he could not believe I was speaking to him.He began to approach me and at this point, one of the domestic staff ran and stood in front of me. She seemed a little older than me and was beautiful too.Sammy tried to speak to him but he pushed him away. I folded my arms, feeling so happy that he wanted me gone. When he got close to me, the girl in front refused to budge. The man stared at her in surprise and it made me wonder who she was."Who the
MIRANDA I had no idea what was going on there but seeing the look on the faces of my family members, I got an uncomfortable feeling. The woman was about to speak, possibly to explain whatever the hell was going on, however, I did not give her the time to do so.I couldn't go through the back because my mum was right behind me, so, I passed the woman and bolted out the door. I stood outside briefly, and came up with an idea; rather than to Collins, I would run to my cousin's for the time being, until I understood what was going on. I heard footsteps behind me and began to run without looking back."Please, don't abandon us when we need you the most," I heard a familiar voice and stopped. My mom walked up to me and turned me so I could face her. Tears kept falling from her eyes as she cried, "Please, Mira. Go with the woman and do whatever she says. This is the only thing I have ever asked of you.""That's a lie, mom," I replied. "You've asked me to do a lot of things over the years. T
MIRANDA I stared at Collins' departing figure and thought, "You'll change your mind once I get back, Collins."I continued running to the road to get a cab. I could not stop worrying that something had happened to my dad. My mom didn't seem like the patient when I heard her voice earlier. My elder brother, Sean, was strong and athletic so it could not be him also. This left me with my dad who had poor health from smoking when he was young and becoming hypertensive after we lost my sister. Once I got to the front of my house, I saw my mum pacing up and down. She stared at me in shock when she saw the way I was dressed. I had initially left through the back and planned to return through it because I wasn't allowed to wear such skimpy clothes and with good reason."Why are you dressed like a prostitute?" She asked angrily as she grabbed my arm and tried to wipe off the makeup on my face. She completely ruined it but that was the least of my problems."Mom, what happened?" I asked anxiou
MIRANDAI stared at my reflection in the mirror and nodded in approval. I looked really sexy in the short, black dress I had on. There was no way Collins would not go crazy if he saw me looking so hot.He had been my boyfriend for three years in high school and now we were both in our first year in the same college. However, he sent a breakup text to me last night.I couldn't find him all day in school but I learned about the party that would take place in his house. Even though I wasn't invited, I intended to gatecrash the party and give him the one thing he had been asking for.My constant refusal over the years was the same reason why he broke up with me but I loved him too much to let him go. If having sex with him was what I had to do to keep him, then I was getting laid tonight. I arrived at Collins' house a few minutes past six and saw that the party was in full swing. His family was well-to-do, so hosting a party such as that was a piece of cake for him, especially when his pa

LISAI reached out my hand in the morning to touch Adam but he wasn't on the bed. I opened my eyes and realized I was alone in the room.I sat up and smiled. I knew that Adam would be excited about the news I wanted to give him. From the moment I found out that there was a little life growing inside of me, I had been ecstatic and dying to tell him. However, I decided to give it a month and it was finally time. Since a month ago when Adam and I officially became a couple, he had been nothing short of sweet. He was the best man in the world and the one thing I wanted more than anything else was to spend the rest of my life with him.Our relationship had been drama-free and I couldn't be more grateful for that. At first, I feared that Clay had something up his sleeves, considering how much he used to hate Adam.Surprisingly, he had really made peace and now occasionally called to make light conversations with Adam. It made everyone happy, especially their Granny.I was even more grateful
ADAMAfter Lisa left, life felt boring. Reading her letter had been extremely excruciating, especially because I knew that my Granny had gotten to her.I couldn't even get upset with my Granny. I loved her too much, and I knew that she did what she did because she felt it was best for the family.I so badly wanted to talk to Lisa, to hear her voice even once, but I had to respect her wishes. It was the only way I could convince her that I really loved her.In the days that followed, I was forced to get along with Clay, who also seemed to have become very sad. At some point, I wondered if he genuinely loved Lisa, or if he was just upset that he did not have something to use against me anymore. Thanks to our Granny, we were forced to eat breakfast, lunch, and even dinner together. Each time we tried to miss anyone, she would suddenly become sick and create a scene. We knew her health wasn't too good, so we had to play along. I was upset with Clay, but a part of me still tried to forgiv
LISAI sat by the pool, feeling sad as I stared at the water.I was waiting for Clay's Granny, who had told me that she wanted to have a word with me.I was surprised by how Clay suddenly reacted. I thought I knew him. Even in the short time I met him, I didn't think he could be so selfish. I was so disappointed in him. But I was very happy, too, that Adam was not willing to give me up.For a moment there, I had been scared. As I listened to their conversation, I had thought that Adam would give in to his Granny's request, but he stood his ground. It meant he really loved me. His Granny soon arrived, and I smiled at her.She sat beside me and said, "Lisa, to be very honest, I have nothing against you. I've always been an open-minded person and I've always said that regardless of the girls my grandsons bring, I would give my blessings for them to get married because I want them to be happy. However, I want my grandsons to be at peace with each other, I want them to be happy and united
