Hailey strolled through the busy streets of New York City as the traffic and pedestrians yelled at each other.
She was lost in thoughts as she wondered how her day of promotion turned to the day she got fired. This wasn't what she was expecting at all.Her phone beeped and she glanced at it wondering if it was her best friend, maybe wanting to check up on her and know the progress of her promotion.Tears misted her eyes as she unlocked her phone but the tears disappeared immediately she saw the number displayed on her screen. It wasn't her best friend, it was the lying snitch who had thrown her under the bus and wrecked her life and her career! He wanted to meet, right? A sly smile blossomed on her lips and she cackled maniacally earning weird glances from people around. She couldn't care less. She was about to show him that he shouldn't take her for granted and by the time she was done with him then he would regret his actions. She headed towards the restaurant he had typed in as the address. With her map, she found out it was so far from where she was but she ended up trekking for twenty-five minutes. When she entered the restaurant, she saw him smiling at her and waving from a reserved table.“Hi, honey,” he smiled at her, kissing her cheeks.Hailey gave him a tight-lipped smile. “Hi.”“I’m so glad you were able to make it for a moment. I thought you would be too busy at work,” he stated. She gave him a saccharine smile. “I’m here. What's the occasion?”“I got a promotion at work!” he exclaimed happily.Hailey nodded and he gave her a weird look.“Congratulations,” she mumbled.“Babe is that all you've got to say?” he queried. The nerve of this snitch!“Actually, I've got a lot to say,” she stated calmly. He gave her an encouraging look. “Go ahead.”“You are a lying bastard and a piece of shit!” she yelled at him.The customers in the restaurant glanced at them and then ignored them.Hailey almost doubled over with laughter as he gave her an innocent look. His brown eyes were furrowed in confusion and his pink lips pouted in a small frown. He smoothed his white plain shirt and ran a hand through his messy dark curls. Her boyfriend, Conner gave her a small smile and edged her on.“Go on darling.”Hailey wasn't the least bit fazed by his acting.“You used me!” she snapped. He nodded, then pointed out. “We used each other. It was a mutually beneficial relationship.”She glared at him, anger radiating off her. “That was supposed to be my story! You know how badly I've needed that promotion.”He shrugged. “All is fair in love and war, darling. I saw the story and it was a nice story so I jumped on it to boost my career.”“Then you fed me lies,” she snapped.“Hey don't blame me for your incompetence. As a journalist, you are supposed to double-check your sources before you jump to conclusions like printing it in the paper,” he said. She gaped at him, shocked. “I was supposed to double-check my sources? You were my source!”He tsked. “That’s where you got it all wrong, darling. I just decided to help you for my benefit. You're the one who thought I would put our romantic relationship in the way of our career.”Hailey was stunned. “I lost my job, Conner.”He frowned. “Ouch! I didn't see that coming but I'm sure I can tell my manager, he could offer you a position on Channel 5 once an opening comes out.”“My boss was sued with a ten million dollars lawsuit,” she stated even further. He shrugged. “She’s worth more than that.”Hailey’s bad mood got worse, there wasn't any atom of remorse in his blood for what he had done. Then Miss. Whitmore’s voice rang clear in her ears. This is New York, baby. The earlier you learn to stand on your own the better for you.Conner used her to get to his ladder of success and left her to sink below him!Rage flooded through her veins and her hand acted on its own. She slapped him across the face, hard!He clutched his cheeks and glared at her, attracting the attention of other customers who didn't want to look away at some lovers' squabble.“What was that for?” he quizzed angrily.“That is for being the world's greatest douche bag. We’re over, asshat!” she snarled.“You’re gonna regret this, Hailey. I'm the only one that can get you through your career in New York City,” he bragged.“You already ruined my career, I won't allow you to ruin my life!”With those words, she picked up her bag and left the restaurant while she heard him order an expensive wine. He could drink all he wanted; she could only wish he would choke on the drink. She bit her lips hard, drawing blood as she jumped into the nearest taxi. She needed to vent and cry because truth be told, she had loved and trusted Conner and now she was feeling very frustrated.***“I can't believe he was such a jerk!”Hailey nodded sniffling into the tissue as her roommate sympathized and consoled her.“To think he lied to you and got you to lose your job on the day you were supposed to be promoted and he didn't feel guilty about it,” Ciara steamed quietly.“And to think I actually had feelings for him,” she bemoaned, “Oh, I'm so pathetic, Ciara.”“No, you're not. You're a strong woman and you'll bounce back to your feet in no time,” Ciara encouraged her fiercely.Hailey shook her head as tears rolled down her cheeks. Losing her job and boyfriend in one day wasn't such an encouraging moment.“I don't have a job, Ciara. I can't do what Miss. Whitmore wants me to do.” she cried. She saw Ciara chew the inside of her cheeks and put on her thinking face then suddenly a smile spread across her face.“Oh no, I know that look. What are you planning?” she asked with a dreadful look in her eyes.Ciara gave her an innocent look as she typed furiously on her laptop.“Me? Why would you think I'm planning something?”Hailey gave her a pointed look. “Because I know you.”Ciara chuckled. “I just set you up for an interview for a new job tomorrow at 8 am.”Hailey gazed at her, shocked. “How did you do that so fast?”Ciara giggled. “Don’t get so excited. Just wait till you get to the job interview tomorrow. It's going to blow your mind away!”Hailey gave her a suspicious look and she shrugged.“What did you do, Ciara?”Ciara shrugged. “Let’s just say I just got you an exclusive job.”Hailey tried to probe more information from her but she wouldn’t divulge anything so she ended up going to bed filled with curiosity and anxious for daybreak.Who knows what Ciara has planned for her.Hailey heaved a sigh as she pressed the doorbell by the huge black gate with sharp spikes. She had no idea who owned the house except that her friend had somehow managed to get her an interview as a nanny. It wasn't her ideal job but she could start with something small before she can work her way back into her newspaper office or another office.“Who is it?” a robotic voice asked over the monitor underneath the doorbell.Hailey peered at the monitor and smiled. “Hailey Parker. I'm here for the nanny interview.”The gate swung open immediately and Hailey gasped as she took in the interior of the house. The house had an ice sculpture of a swan in the waterfall. The walls were all tiled and the floor of the house was smoothed with bricks. The mansion stood tall and proud as she looked around for the person who had opened the gate but she found none. She glanced at the car park and sucked in a deep breath at the number of expensive cars which were parked there. She risked a glance at the
Chase Denver ran a hand through his dark spiky hair tousling it for the fifth time today. He was restless and he knew the reason for his anger. He wasn't prepared for the responsibility his grandfather handed over to him.He knew he promised them he would do anything to save the family business but then…His thoughts were interrupted by a shrieking female. She strutted into his office, her green eyes blazing with fire, her lips pouted in a frown. Her red hair fluttered around her waist and she glared at him ready to breathe fire and brimstone.“Before you say anything, I was just about to call you,” he lied smoothly.“Bullshit!” she snapped, “I called you four hours ago!!”He nodded. “I've been in a meeting since then.”She rolled her eyes. “Save your lies to someone who doesn't know you.”He raised his hands in surrender. “Okay, you got me. I didn't feel like returning your calls, happy now?”She smirked. “I will be after I tell my grandfather that you want our union to fall apart.”
Chase Denver glared at the woman smiling sheepishly before him. He patted the back of his head where she had bumped him on and groaned. He hadn't just gotten a nanny but a stalker too! “I want her out of this house!”Leo stared at him like he was crazy.“But sir, she's the best nanny we’ve gotten so far who doesn't know you,” he cried.Chase hurried up the stairs and headed to his room. He didn't want to have this conversation before her, especially when his head was banging.“My room, Leo!” he snapped.Leo followed him closely and kept muttering how he had a good feeling about the girl who just whacked him over his head with a frying pan in his own house! Finally, they got to his room and he slammed the door before turning to vent his anger on Leo.“How dare you say nice things about her when she's a psycho sent to murder me?!”Leo gave him a weird look. “I know you're upset but you've got to calm down.”Chase glared at him. “You want me to calm down?! I had to hide in the office so
Hailey's expression held her shock, just as Chase stared at her in surprise. She didn't mean it. It was just a reflex action. An automatic response to a kiss she wasn't expecting, wasn't even prepared for, and worst of all, from her boss who believed all the women he'd hired, had come to have sex with him.She was different. Heck, she didn't even know him until today. He was attractive, no doubt. But he was rude, and quite off. Her shock expression had turned to fear, and then remorse when she met Chase's blazing gaze."I...I didn't mean it," she squeaked, stepping back in shock.Gosh Hailey, what have you done?!Why did she slap him? There were many ways to react to an unwanted kiss aside from slapping.Maybe she could have kicked him where the sun never shines.Worst, Hailey.Oh God! She was doomed.Fired Hailey, you're fired! She thought dejectedly."How dare you?" His voice was low, but the anger amplified it. His eyes shot hate lasers, and Hailey was beginning to melt."I'm sorry
By the time Hailey left the manor, it was quite late. She got home tired, and drained by the day's events, and not once did she not repeat the happenings in her head. She could not stop thinking about what Chase said and did.She boarded a taxi down to her apartment, and was still in thoughts till the car had come to a halt before her little apartment. Once she was inside the safety of her house, she undressed, took a quick shower and then microwaved some macaroni and cheese. She ate with a glass of milk, while she tried to catch up with the news. That was the only little distraction she had before her mind returned to thinking of Chase, his sassy daughter, Dawn and then the nice butler, Leo. Given, that house was a little drama of three different personalities in a blend. She had created quite the impression.Speaking of impressions, she had created a really bad impression on her first day. Considering Dawn was being a bit difficult, and her father, Chase had to be an asshole. And, sh
"Dawn!" Hailey called out, placing the ice cream plates on the bench, she went in search of Dawn. At first, she believed the girl was probably playing hide and seek somewhere. Maybe she was beginning to warm up to me, she thought. So she began combing through the park, searching for a certain dark haired six year old with emerald coloured eyes, dressed in a blue floral dress. For thirty good minutes, Hailey combed the entire park, alternating the sides and positions searching for Dawn. She bent, scrunched, and even crawled, moving amongst the playing kids hoping to see Dawn somewhere amongst the crowd of kids, yet the little girl was nowhere to be found.Alarmed by the turn of events, she began to ask the other kids, and adults who sat around if they'd seen a certain dark haired, Emerald green eyed six year old, dressed in a blue floral dress.Firstly, she walked towards a blonde lady who was struggling with fixing the shoelaces of her giggling son, who seemed happy with stressing his
Where the park was situated was a good distance from Denver's Headquarters in New York City. And since, Chase took his daughter almost everywhere; for walks, drives and several outings, the six year old was quite conversant with some parts of the city.Dawn had watched Hailey stroll away to get the ice cream, she'd waited for just the right opportunity to make Hailey look bad, so her father would have every cause to fire her.To her, Hailey was nothing but a Daddy stealer, just like Natalie, and every other nanny that they had hired. Hailey was happy when she requested chocolate flavour, and had gone to get the ice cream. Only that Dawn's favourite was actually mint, and the unsuspecting girl had left Dawn to carry out her mission.Quickly, she'd left the bench and ran all the way out of the park, and had headed straight to her father's office. By the time she got to the Office, she was breathless and her little legs shook at the strenuous exercise she had undergone. The security g
Hailey felt like dying. She was sure Chase would arrest her for not taking proper care of his daughter. They had searched all over the park again, and outside the streets, asking if anyone saw Dawn. But, it looks like the six year old just disappeared into thin air.No trace of her or anything."Shouldn't we go to the police station?" Ciara asked her friend at some point."And turn myself in?" Hailey questioned with tears filled eyes."What do you mean by turning yourself in? You're not a criminal," Ciara started in confusion."No, I'm not. But, it was my carelessness that caused her disappearance. If only I had stayed at home with her, then I would not be in this situation," She lamented. Her eyes were bright with unshed tears. Hailey was a brave girl, and her friend could notice how she struggled to maintain her brave front."Hailey, it's not your fault Dawn went missing. You were only trying to be nice. If she had stayed put, then we wouldn't have been searching for her for close t
The three days watch was finally over and Chase was over the moon. He had gotten up at the crack of dawn and had woken everyone in his house up. Today, finally after so many months of being apart due to one situation or the other Hailey was going to be moving into his house for good. Natalie, her grandfather were out of his life now and he was free to be with whoever he wanted.“Daddy?” Dawn’s voice pulled him back to the present and he smiled as he caught her form in the doorway.“In here Dawn.” He opened his arms smiling when she ran towards him. “You look happy, what’s the secret?” Chase asked lifting her up in his arms as if she weighed nothing. “Does this have anything to do with Hailey coming back home?”“Yes, I’m soooooo excited.” She started telling him her many plans for Hailey’s arrival. Chase nodded his head as he listened attentively, his mind creating images of the kind of family he, Hailey and Dawn will make. She continued listing out her plans and Chase let his mind d
" Is she going to be okay?" Chase asked the team of doctors and nurses who came for the morning round and observed a sleeping Hailey." She is a fighter, Mr Denver. No doubt she'll be fine. So far there's been a lot of progress." One of the doctors explained with a smile, hoping to ease of the tension on Chase's shoulders.Chase sighed in relief, " oh thank you doc. Hopefully she wakes up early." He added, patting her hair for better measure." She will be up in no time. Just give her some time to flesh it out." The doctor affirmed and headed out of the ward, not before they'd both shook hands on it.It had been three days of total blackout. Hailey was yet to awaken and Chase sat by her side, looking rough, barely going home and waiting for her to wake up.For the first time in a while, Chase reevaluated his thoughts and prayed Vehemently that she woke up in good health alongside the child within her. He watched like a hawk for any little changes and continually felt the stomach of
“She’s in critical condition.” George said speaking to the nurse who came outside to help them. The nurse nodded and placed her hands on Hailey’s wrists checking for a pulse. She smiled when she noticed there was indeed a pulse. “She has a pulse but its barely there and she has lost a lot of blood. She will have to be admitted immediately.” The nurse said and ran off to get the stretcher and some backup.George looked at Chase and sighed placing his hand on his shoulder. “Your wife is going to be fine Mr Denvers, they are good at their job.” He said and quickly answered someone over the radio. “I have to heard to the station now, there are some things I need to take care of. I will need Hailey’s statement and all the evidence she has against those men so we can ensure that they pay for all their crimes.”“You’d have to wait for her to get better then,” Chase said and sighed stroking Hailey’s hair. “I don’t know where she left the files she had been working on. Infact, she refused to g
“We’ve found her.”Chase was on his feet before anyone else, his heart beating wildly in his chest. ‘Finally, some good news.’ He thought but said instead. “Where is she? Is she okay? How’s the baby?”The cop would have laughed if it had been a different situation but this was a very sensitive case. “We have found her location but we wanted to let you know first.” He said and watched as several emotions crossed Chase’s face, the most obvious ones being relief then concern.“Where is she? Can I see her?” Dawn asked walking towards the cop. “Where is Hailey?”“Come here little one.” Leo said and pulled Dawn away earning him a grateful smile from Chase who was looking frazzled. “Let’s go and get some juice for everyone.”“But I want to see Hailey.”“Come on, daddy will bring her back.” Leo said pulling her away.Chase sighed and turned to the cop. “I’m coming with you to bring her back. I can’t stay here while you go.”“Me too, I am coming along.” Ciara said. “She’s my friend and I can h
An unconscious Hailey was bound by the arm and taken out of the car by some buff men. At the arrival of the car in the shady outskirts of town, Franklin's men were all in standby, waiting for the arrival since word was sent of the successful mission." What happened?" One of the men asked the alleged driver as soon as Hailey was carried into the building." Bitch tried to kill us both, and had to knock her out cold." The man said, taking off his glasses and showing a scar which ran through his lower lids." Get rid of the car and every other trace, there must be no traces." George ordered and immediately walked into the building. Leaving the man to his devices. The car was driven to a blind spot and set ablaze. Hailey was thrown into a leaking and dirty cell room, leaving her to await the arrival of Mr Franklin and Mr Amore.Hailey was brought to consciousness the moment water poured upon her from the leakage. It was raining outside. She looked around her surroundings and fear gripped
While Chase was continuously ringing Hailey, her phone was on the couch of the sitting room. She had unconsciously dropped it while waiting for some sort of reply from Chase but to no avail.Everytime a new message came into her phone, Hailey rushed to see if it was the reply, abandoning every other thing with high emotions. After the fifth occurrence, she decided to put her phone on do not disturb mode in order to be able to get some work done.As she became submerged in her work, Hailey totally forgot that she had previously placed her phone in total silence. In that haze she worked tirelessly until she couldn't any longer and dozed off spending the night on the couch. The next morning, Ciara stumbled out of her room and met Hailey seated in an awkward way on the couch, the laptop was halfway down the floor, opened with the screen on and battery almost empty. After putting the laptop in place, she headed over to a sleeping Hailey and with two successive pats, she woke her up." Get
Ciara was in Hailey's room, playing on her phone and simultaneously observing the little changes she noticed in Hailey's body. Her hips seemed much wider, and eyes much more dilated alongside her constant urge to puke. She had earlier researched on the known causes of such symptoms and the only diagnosis that seemed to tick all boxes was the pregnancy idea.Ciara played with the idea of Hailey being pregnant but she couldn't reconcile the two. At first she'd vehemently kicked out the idea of her being pregnant out to the curbs of her mind but then she remembered Kol.For as much as she knew, there wasn't any relationship between them and she believed if something of such nature had taken place, the Hailey she knew would definitely speak to her about it.At the same time, in contrast to that point, Hailey had shared a kiss with Kol not so long ago and deliberately kept it to herself.Although she was made to understand that she thoroughly regretted it and deemed it a mistake that would
Three weeks later, Hailey and Ciara were finally leaving the hotel. Due to their prolonged stay while searching for an apartment, there was pretty much an hole in the middle of their pockets.Despite how fast they were able to secure an alternative apartment with decent security, it had cost them three weeks worth of money to lodge. A price for the protection of their lives. While they were in the hotel, Hailey reached out to Mrs Whitmore, informing her of the recent events and asking for some time off to figure herself out.Surprisingly, Mrs Whitmore was lenient and it was pointblank unbelievable when she accepted and later sent in a contract which included a working from home agenda and how to conveniently report to due authority for as long as the process dragged on.Originally, when she demanded some time away, she'd been scared of how Mrs Whitmore was going to react but with the reply she got, she was beginning to think her boss wasn't so bad after all.Or maybe she'd finally sca
"Hey Cee, I'm home." Hailey said walking towards the house. She couldn't wait to lie in her bed again. Work had been hectic!"I'm craving some of your delicious snacks." She said and paused at the door noticing that the handle was broken. With her heart beating wildly in her chest, Hailey opened the door and frantically searched for her friend."What is all this? Cee?" She rushed towards her friend when she spotted her sitting beside the living room couch. It was turned upside down just like the rest of the house. What could have happened? With concerned eyes, she scanned her friend's body sighing in relief when she noticed no bruises or scars. "Cee, what happened?""This house is no longer safe Hailey. I met everything like this when I came home from work."Hailey pulled her friend close and hugged her silently listening to her sobs.Hailey didn't need the police to tell her who had done this, Franklyn must have put his men up to this. He was so desperate to scare her that he'd do an
