Avery
“Come with me!” Mr. Hart said and I was pulled out of the crowd by him, his grip firm on my arm. I didn't resist, curious about what he was about to do, there was a sly smirk on my face as he led me away. He led me into a room, and I guessed he must have stayed here for the inauguration of my step-sister. As soon as the door closed, Mr. Hart turned to me, his eyes wide with shock. "Is this truly Avery?” His voice was laced with doubt as he asked and I rolled my eyes. “What did you think? A look-alike playing tricks, common Mr. Hart, you are a businessman and you know better!” “Avery, I thought you were dead. Your family held a funeral for you. You can’t blame me,” he shrugged. I sat down, unbothered, and poured myself a glass of wine. "That's interesting," I said, sipping it contentedly. Mr. Hart's expression turned serious. "What do you mean by the E7-1987 file, Avery? How do you know about it?" I set my glass down, my eyes locked on his. "You want to know what I mean? You want to know how I know about it?" Mr. Hart nodded, his eyes narrowing. "Yes, I do. And I want to know if you're trying to betray your family, you shouldn’t know where that file is except it’s fake, your father did a good job hiding it away from the public eye.” I laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "Betray my family? I can’t get a hold of the file? You must have thought so low of me Mr. Hart and about betrayal… They betrayed me first. They left me for dead, and now, after two years of surgeries and pain, I'm back. And I'm going to make them pay." Mr. Hart's eyes widened in disbelief. "Avery, I don't believe you. You love your family." I shrugged, my expression hardening. "That was in the past, Mr. Hart. Now, I just want revenge, I was a naive fool who believed everyone, who thought as long as I was on good terms with everyone I had no cause to worry but I was so wrong. And you're the perfect person to help me get what I want.” Mr. Hart stood up, his face pale. "I won't help you, Avery. This is a trap. We never talked after high school and why do you suddenly need my help!” I leaned forward, my eyes blazing as our gaze locked. "If you want to help me, Mr. Hart, you better be ready to listen. I'll tell you everything, but you have to be willing to believe me." I sat across from Mr. Hart, my eyes locked on his as I waited for his response, a good response but he only watched him as if I might evaporate from the surface of the earth at any moment. “What’s going on Avery?!” He finally asked, well… curiosity is the key. "If I'm going to speak, you better be ready to help," I said, my voice firm. "I'm not going to talk just for you to reject my offer." Mr. Hart leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers together as he regarded me. "Avery, I've known you for a long time. I've seen the good in you, the kindness and compassion. What's happened to you? You're...different now." I laughed, a bitter sound that echoed through the room. "Circumstances, Mr. Hart. Circumstances changed me. I was betrayed in ways I never expected." "Betrayed?" Mr. Hart repeated, his eyebrows rising. "What do you mean? You mentioned this earlier.” I took a deep breath, the memories flooding back, my heart raced and it hurt so bad thinking about those ugly experiences I had tried so hard to bury in the deeper part of my heart. "My husband cheated on me with my sister. I caught them two years ago, at my inauguration party. Can you believe it? The very people I trusted most in this world, and they repaid me like that." Mr. Hart's face went white. "Avery, I...I don't know what to say." I shook my head, my eyes filling with tears and I blinked severally stopping myself from shedding a tear, I have promised myself never to show any vulnerability in front of anyone. "No one believed me when I said I didn't release those drugs that killed and harmed so many people. They all thought I was responsible, that I was capable of such a heinous act." "That's not true," Mr. Hart protested. "You were always a kind and caring person. I know you wouldn't do something like that." I smiled a sad, wistful smile. "You don't know the half of it, Mr. Hart. I found out my mother isn't my biological mother. And she wished me dead, literally. She removed my oxygen mask in the hospital." Mr. Hart looked like he had been punched in the gut. "Avery, I...I don't know what to say, this is terrible. I'm so sorry." I stood up, letting out a deep sigh, and walked towards the window, I needed a breath of fresh air if I didn’t want to end up crying here, "I'm here to clear my name, Mr. Hart. The public thinks I'm responsible for what happened two years ago. I'm here to prove them wrong and get revenge on those who destroyed me." I heard his footsteps echoing in the room as he moved closer to me. "I can believe all this happened, I heard about your accident late and for the past two years, I have always regretted that I let you drive that day, your supposed death hit me and it took a while to finally adjust and believe you were gone, your family were in the news showing how sad they were to lost you and all those time, I don’t know all these happened, how you must have suffered in silence, alone,” he paused and let out a deep breath. “ I'll help you, Avery. I'll do everything in my power to help you clear your name and get justice." I turned to look at his face, the sun illuminated his face showing all signs of honesty and sincerity in what he had said. “I knew you were going to help Mr. Hart,” I smiled, glad I didn’t have to talk too much to get to him. Mr. Hart's eyes narrowed as if he was suddenly thinking. "How do you plan to do this, Avery? How can I help you?" I smiled, a plan forming in my mind. "I'll provide you with the file, it contains all the evidence you need to take down my family. You can use it to claim your rightful place, while also protecting me and helping me get my revenge." Mr. Hart's eyes lit up with interest. "What kind of evidence? Are you sure everything is in that file,” I leaned forward, a sly smile formed on my face, my voice taking on a conspiratorial tone. "Everything. From their shady business deals that happened three years ago between you two, to their personal secrets. I have it all." Mr. Hart whistled, impressed. "You're a dangerous woman, Avery." I laughed, a cold, calculating sound. "I have to admit, that really sounds sexy,” he chuckled. “You have become so bold, I love this part of you,” Mr. Hart's expression turned serious as he observed. "I'll do it, Avery. I'll help you. But you have to know, it won't be easy. We'll have to be careful." I nodded. "I know. But I have an idea. Something that will make this even more interesting." Mr. Hart raised an eyebrow. "What is it?" I smiled, a mischievous glint in my eye. "Let's get married." Mr. Hart's eyes widened in surprise. "Avery, that's not possible. Not right now, at least. You have to stay private until we clear your name. If you appear in public, the police might come after you." I nodded, understanding. "I know. But it's a nice thought, isn't it?" Mr. Hart chuckled. "You're romantic, Avery. I wouldn't have pegged you as the type." I shrugged. "Desperate times call for desperate measures. So, what do we do now? I thought getting married to you would be more secure, I had it all planned out before coming over to you.” I said and he placed his hands on my shoulders. “Well… now that I am involved in this, we are going to plan everything together and make sure there is no mistake, getting married to you right now might be the easiest way to clear you off their way for good, you are going to remain hidden until it’s clear enough to reveal yourself.” “I already showed myself to my stepmom and sister,” I squeezed my eyes shut for a second feeling stupid. “What?!” His eyes widened in shock. “Don’t worry, you shouldn’t be too bothered if you don’t appear anymore, they might think it’s a hallucination.” “So what do you suggest we do?” I asked desperately. "You need to move into my house. It's safer there, more secure. We can't have you out in the open, not yet."Nathaniel"Sir, it's time to attend the inauguration of Sasha Montgomery as the new CEO of Montgomery Pharmaceuticals," Oliver, my secretary, reminded me.I nodded, my mind wandering to Avery. The mention of the Montgomery name always brought her to mind. Her death had come as a shock to me, and even though I had tried to distance myself from the pain, I couldn't help but feel a deep feeling of loss. I had always liked her, even when she rejected me in high school, even when she got married. I had stayed away, content with knowing she was happy. But her death was something else entirely…unexpected and shocking.I didn't want to attend the inauguration, it would only make me angry at the world and also make the memory of that ugly day linger in my head but as a business associates, I knew better than to let my personal feelings get the better of me. “Let’s go,” I replied to Oliver. My thoughts had taken over everything until I saw a familiar face walking beside me. My steps gradually
Sasha's heart was racing like a wild animal, threatening to burst out of her chest. She couldn't believe her eyes, Avery! The same person everyone thought was dead, was standing right in front of her. Sasha's mind screamed that it was a hallucination, a cruel trick of her imagination. But deep down, she knew what she saw was real. She had watched as she walked away and tried to make sense of what just happened but it seemed like life was playing a cruel joke on her, she was barely stable as she stood in front of the podium trying to give her speech."How is this possible?" Sasha thought to herself. "Avery died in the hospital. Right? How did she escape? How did she survive?" Then she remembered that they never truly confirmed her death, the doctor only informed them she was missing and after several months of hearing nothing from her, they all assumed she was dead.Fear crept in, wrapping its icy fingers around Sasha's heart. She felt like she was living in a nightmare, where the dead
AveryI stepped into the car, my heart racing. I couldn't believe how smoothly everything had gone. Meeting with Mr. Hart had been a breeze, and I was confident that he would verify the documents and get back to me soon.As the car took me back to the hotel, I felt a mix of emotions. Relief, excitement, and exhaustion all battled for dominance. I dropped my bag as soon as I arrived, too tired to care about anything else.I made my way to the bathroom, my body aching for a warm bath. I took off my clothes immediately and stepped into the bathtub, I stood in front of the mirror, naked and vulnerable, and I couldn't help but stare at the scars on my body. Scars from the accident, reminders of the pain and trauma I had endured. My eyes welled up with tears as I traced the scars with my fingers. My body had become ugly, a map of my suffering. I felt like I would never be able to escape the memories of that fateful day.I slumped into the bathtub, the warm water enveloping me like a hug. Bu
NathanielI sat at my desk, scrolling through my phone with a mixture of frustration and concern, my finger was busy tapping on the screen, I was one step away from calling Avery but I remembered her warning and I didn’t want to do anything to get her angry. My best friend, Michael, walked in and chuckled, clearly amused by something."What's so funny?" I asked, frowning.Michael shook his head, "Nothing, nothing. Just thought you'd be done pining over Avery by now."I sighed, rubbing my temples. "I'm just worried about her, okay? I don't want anything to happen to her."Michael's expression turned serious. "I know, I know. But you have to respect her boundaries, Nathaniel. It's clear she doesn't want to talk to you apart from...whatever it is you two have going on."I nodded, knowing he was right. "I know. It's just...I don't know how secure that place she's staying is. Anything could happen, and I just want to protect her."Michael placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "Avery can
Nathaniel“We have arrived at the mansion sir,” the chauffeur said and I came down from the car adjusting my suit. I walked back to my mansion, and the cool evening air hit me like a slap in the face. I needed it. My mind was still reeling from the events of the day. Sasha's flirtatious behavior, her suggestive words, it all felt so out of character, and yet, at the same time, it felt so...calculated.I couldn't shake the feeling that she was playing me, that she had some ulterior motive for her actions. But what could it be? We had never had a conversation before and I wasn’t sure if she was just always like that, even though it was wrong since she knows business etiquette. I thought back to our interactions before today. We had never really talked, never really connected.I sighed, feeling frustrated and confused. I didn't know what to make of it. But I knew one thing, I needed to talk to Avery about it. I wasn’t sure if this had anything to do with her but it was best if I talked
Sasha's eyes blazed with fury as she watched Nathaniel walk away. She couldn't believe that Ethan had messed up her carefully laid plans. She had spent weeks trying to get Nathaniel's attention, and finally, she had him right where she wanted him. But then Ethan had to go and ruin everything. How could he appear out of nowhere to spoil what she had planned, what if Avery suddenly popped out of nowhere, how was she going to protect herself? She turned to look at Ethan, her anger inevitable, it took a lot of self-control not to pounce on him. "You idiot!" she screamed, turning to face Ethan. "How could you be so stupid?"Ethan took a step back, looking taken aback by her anger. "Hey, I was just trying to know what you are trying to do, it seems you forget you have a man," he said, his voice defensive."I have a man?" Sasha laughed, a cold, angry sound. "You call yourself a man? You just ruined everything!"Ethan's face reddened with anger. "I'm tired of being treated like dirt, Sasha.
AveryI stared at my phone, my eyes glued to the screen as I watched the news. Montgomery Pharmaceuticals, the company that had almost been the death of me, was launching new drugs to cure mpox infections. A wicked smile spread across my face as I remembered the last time they had tried to launch a new drug. It was the same drug that had almost led to my demise, the same drug that had caused my whole family to betray me.I couldn't believe how long they had lived without any care in the world, oblivious to the pain and suffering they had caused me. My mind began to wander, consumed by thoughts of revenge and betrayal. I tried to shake off the memories, but they lingered, haunting me like a ghost.I took a deep breath and dialed Nathaniel's contact, my fingers moving swiftly over the screen. He answered on the first ring.“Avery? Are you okay?” He asked. "Hey, where are you?" I asked, trying to sound nonchalant. My emotions were biting me off and it was just too hard to keep calm. "I
NathanielI was exhausted, staring blankly at my computer screen as I tried to finish my work. But my mind kept wandering, and my eyes felt heavy with fatigue. I couldn't wait to go home and collapse onto my bed. I needed to get this done as soon as possible and go back home, I know I could work from home but I will end up falling asleep before I know it. Just as I was starting to focus, my phone rang, shrill in the silence. I groaned, not wanting to answer it, but something compelled me to pick up. I was shocked to see Avery’s name on the screen, I became worried immediately and picked up the call. I heard her voice trembling.I was shocked knowing something was wrong immediately. She never called me unless it was absolutely necessary, and even then, she usually referred to me as Mr. Hart, a reminder of our professional relationship. But today, she called me Nathaniel, and I knew something was wrong. My heart skipped a beat as I listened to her stammering on the phone. I tried to ca
Sasha paced in her room, Avery’s words echoing in her mind. “Father is not my father.” How could everything she knew about her life be a lie? She had always been Mr. Montgomery’s daughter, raised in the mansion, treated as his own. It didn’t make sense. Avery had to be wrong, but part of her wasn’t so sure. Her thoughts were interrupted when the door creaked open, and her mother entered, immediately sensing something was wrong.“What’s bothering you, darling?” Mrs. Montgomery asked, her voice filled with concern.Sasha stopped pacing and turned to face her mother. “Nothing,” she said quickly, trying to hide her feelings.Mrs. Montgomery didn’t buy it. She took a step forward, her sharp eyes assessing Sasha’s expression. “You’re a terrible liar,” she said with a slight smile, though her tone remained concerned. “Now, come on. Dinner’s ready. I’ll get you something to eat, and you can tell me what’s really going on.”She followed her mother to the dining room. As they sat at the table,
AveryThe warmth of the conversation between Clara, Nathaniel, and me was a welcomed reprieve from the chaos that had been unfolding around us. For the first time in what felt like forever, I could finally breathe a little easier. My father had woken up, and though his condition was still delicate, he was awake alive and that was all that mattered to me right now. I could finally smile again, and laugh again. The burden that had been pressing on my chest for so long was beginning to lift.“Clara, you have no idea how relieved I am,” I said, as I leaned back in my seat beside Nathaniel, my heart still beating a little faster with excitement. “I never thought I would see him open his eyes again.”Clara smiled back, her expression warm and understanding. “You’ve been so strong, Avery. I’m happy for you.”Nathaniel, sitting beside me, reached out and gently took my hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. “We’ve all been through a lot, but things are looking up now,” he said, his voice stead
Sasha paced furiously around the room, her mind spinning with the information that Ethan had just unloaded on her. Each thought bounced off the walls of her head like an unrelenting echo. How had Nathaniel and Avery met? More importantly, how had she missed the connection between them? There was never a moment she noticed them being close before Avery was supposed to be dead, it felt like they were two people that lived in a different world so how did it all happen? When are where had they met? It was just like a puzzle she couldn’t solve and as she thought about it, it only confused her the more… feeling more baffled than she will ever admit. "How did I not see this?" she muttered to herself, clenching her fists. She couldn't wrap her head around it…Avery and Nathaniel? How had he come into her life? And why had he interfered when they were so close to finishing their plans? She had to know the truth. She had to understand how deep this betrayal ran.She couldn’t help but wonder if
Avery“Are you okay?” I suddenly heard Nathaniel’s voice beside me and I tilted my head to look at him, I had a smile on my face as I nodded my head to let him know I was fine. We had decided to visit my dad today and I was a bit nervous, hoping he was finer than the way he was the last time I visited. The room was quiet, save for the soft beeping of the machines monitoring his vitals. My eyes immediately went to the bed, where my father lay, connected to a series of tubes and wires. His face was pale, almost ghostly, but I could still see the familiar features, the sharp jaw, the soft lines around his eyes, and the dark hair that was now more salt than pepper. A tight knot formed in my stomach, seeing him so vulnerable, so broken. I had spent time wondering if I would ever hear his voice again.Nathaniel gave my hand a gentle squeeze. “He’ll wake up, Avery. He’s strong. Your father’s been through worse.”I nodded, but the ache in my chest didn’t go away. I wanted to believe him, but
“I can’t believe this inspector, it looks like you are imposing on us,” Mrs. Montgomery stated trying to hide the anger brewing deep inside of her. “I am not imposing please, I am only stating based on what is written here, I dare not impose on you Mrs. and Miss Montgomery,” the inspector replied and Sasha clenched her hands beside her. She hated the fact they didn’t take her and her mom seriously, it seemed like they had become a subject of mockery, the once respected family as become nothing to them, something they could talk and trash just the way they deemed fit, she hated this, the hated the feelings and she looked at her mom. For the first time in the whole of her existence, she saw that the woman was dumbfounded, and had nothing to say… of course, they had nothing to say at this point, how would they ever be able to defend themselves, it wasn’t an easy one at all. She had always been the one in control, the one who kept her family's secrets close, the one who maneuvered thr
AveryI burst into laughter, my head lolling back as Nathaniel continued speaking, I never knew he had this goofy part of him, it was beautiful to watch and his beautiful face in the darkness made it better, I watched him as he looked serious quite enjoying the conversation just like I do. “I swear, Avery,” he chuckled, his voice warm, “You can’t possibly be serious. The way you’re acting is enough to make anyone believe you’re planning world domination.” He grinned at me, his eyes twinkling with mischief. “It’s not bad if you do I ate the world, I am very sure everyone will readily go on their knees to worship the empress!” I burst into laughter, shaking my head. “You don’t understand. It’s all about strategy. You have to think ahead. Like chess, Nathaniel.”He raised an eyebrow, feigning interest. “Oh? Tell me, Queen Avery, how would you take over the world? What’s your first move?”I bit my lip, pretending to think. “Well, first, I’d take control of all the ice cream factories,”
The early morning light filtered through the half-closed curtains, casting a soft, warm glow on the room as Sasha paced back and forth. Her thoughts were scattered, emotions roiling within her. She had been up for hours. She glanced at the large clock in the sitting room and it was past eight in the morning, her mother never slept out and she wondered where she had spent the night, it was so unusual, something that never happens which left her worrying, she had called her several times and she is not picking up the call. As if on cue, the door creaked open, and Mrs. Montgomery walked into the room. Her eyes fell on Sasha and her gaze hardened immediately. "Mom," Sasha said, her voice calm but strained with underlying frustration. "Where were you last night? You didn't come home. And... I need to know what you have been into."Mrs. Montgomery froze for a moment, her body stiffening at the question. Then, without meeting Sasha's gaze, she walked further into the room, her heels click
The room was quiet except for the sound of their breath, heavy and in sync. Mrs. Montgomery let out a long, shaky sigh as Joe rolled off of her, his movements slow and deliberate. He settled onto the bed, his eyes never leaving her. She lay beside him, staring at the ceiling, her fingers absently tracing the lines of the sheets. Joe propped himself up on one elbow, his gaze studying her with a mix of concern and curiosity. "What's wrong?" he asked, his voice low. "Even after everything, you still don't look okay." Mrs. Montgomery didn't immediately respond, her mind racing with the events of the past few hours. She wanted to find peace, wanted to push the anger and frustration aside, but it was like an unshakable weight pressing on her chest. Her fingers clenched into fists at her sides, and she finally turned her head to meet his eyes. "I'm still angry," she said, her voice tinged with frustration. "Angry about what the officers did to me, to my family. And now the company…” She p
AveryI lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, unable to shake the nagging thought that had been plaguing me all night. No matter how hard I tried to close my eyes, the images and questions kept racing through my mind. How long had it been going on? How could she have done this to my father? I had always thought of my stepmother as a picture of grace and loyalty. She was so poised, so calculated in everything she did. Never in a million years did I imagine she could betray my father like this. He loved her, he had trusted her completely, and now, I had to face the truth that she had been unfaithful. The thought of it made my stomach churn. It was a bitter pill to swallow, I felt much more bad wondering how my father was going to feel when he woke up and learned about this, how was he going to react? The woman he had been married to for all those years. I couldn’t stop wondering when it had all started. How long had she been hiding this secret? And why?The room felt too quiet, too still,
