Nathaniel

I stood in front of the mirror, the fabric of my suit smooth against my fingertips. The dark gray wool, sharp and immaculate, was supposed to make me feel in control. Yet, as I adjusted the cufflinks, my reflection felt like a stranger’s, distant, cold, almost unrecognizable. I didn’t want to see myself, didn’t want to be the man who had failed to keep the one person who mattered out of prison.

Avery was still locked up. It didn’t matter that I knew she was innocent, the system didn’t care about that. The feeling in my chest was slowly killing me. There was an unrelenting pressure that was suffocating. I wanted to scream, punch something, do anything to make it stop, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t afford to break. Not now.

I exhaled sharply, fixing my tie for the umpteenth time, and turned away from the mirror. It was time to move.

As I stepped out of the room, Michael was waiting for me in the hallway. I didn’t need to say anything. He knew the look on my face all too well, the

AveryI sat on the cold, unforgiving bench in the tiny cell where I was kept, my arms crossed tightly over my chest as I watched into the nothingness. The silence was suffocating, pressing in from every direction. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, a steady thrum of panic that refused to stay quiet. Everything that had happened crashed over me in waves, and I couldn’t shake the overwhelming feeling of helplessness. How did we get here? The question echoed in my mind over and over. I never expected things to go this way. I thought we had everything figured out, at least, I thought we were ahead and we would crumble Sasha and her mom but it seems I had it all wrong, or had I relented a bit? Sitting in this cell, I realized how wrong I was. Sasha and her mom were always a step ahead, and they had me cornered. All I could do was sit here, waiting for whatever came next, knowing how worried Nathaniel would be by now. How could I do this to him?I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to

Nathaniel “You are not going to drive Nathaniel, you are in no state to drive right now!” Michael stopped me as I tried to take over the wheels, my gaze fell on Ethan and I sneered, I stepped back handing the key over to Michael knowing that if I drove the car, I was going to get us killed. Ethan and I sat at the back while Michael drove the car back to the mansion, where we could have privacy and enough time to question Ethan and what had brought him to the pharmacist's house. I slammed the car door behind me, my mind racing as I yanked Ethan out of the passenger seat. The tires of the car had barely stopped screeching on the gravel driveway before I was dragging him up the steps of the mansion. Ethan wasn’t even resisting. He just stumbled slightly, that familiar smirk still plastered on his face like nothing had ever changed. He was clearly tempting me to hit him and I wasn’t in the right state of mind right now, it was my morales barely holding me back from punching the hell

The room was thick with tension, the only sounds were the harsh breathing of Mr. Montgomery and the soft clink of his wrist cuffs as he struggled against his restraints. The pain in his skull from the hit was almost unbearable, but his anger, his desperation to understand, pushed him forward. He opened his eyes, groggy and disoriented, only to find Mrs. Montgomery standing over him, her lips curled into a sinister smile. There was something cold in the way she looked at him, something that made his skin crawl but he wasn’t going to let her see how much that affected him. The woman who had once been his wife now looked like a stranger, someone dangerous, someone who had been hiding behind a mask for far too long, he had always thought she was the best woman to ever exist, with the fact that she agreed not to let the public know she didn’t birth Avery, the fact that she agreed to be her mother for years and he had thought that he had the perfect family to ever exist but how wrong he wa

I paused abruptly when I heard her voice. It wasn’t just me. Everyone in the hall were surprised by her sudden utterance. She stepped beside me and stared at the glass in my hands. “What is it? What’s going on?” I asked in confusion. “Are you perhaps still angry with me? Because of everything that happened?” Mother inquired. “I was never angry with you,” she replied. “Daphne, what’s wrong? We are drawing unnecessary attention to ourselves once again. Why don’t you guys talk later?” Ruby whispered. “Do you want me to kneel and give you a public apology? Is that it? Was this apology not good enough?” Mother asked glancing at me. The expression on her face, there was more to it. I could tell there was something wrong. “You can’t drink that,” she said staring at the cup in my hands. “What do you mean by that? My son can’t drink from a glass I gave to him? How selfish can you be?” Mother asked in disbelief.“Calm down. I’m sure she didn’t mean it in that manner…”“Your son? You call

AveryI suddenly opened my eyes breathing heavily, my gaze traveled across and my brain registered I was still in prison. I couldn’t remember what I was dreaming about even though I forced myself to. All I knew was that it had been a nightmare, full of messed-up scenarios that I couldn’t quite place my fingers on. Even now, as I sat up, the feeling of confinement clung to me. My body felt stiff from the cold concrete floor beneath the thin, scratchy bed they had given me, but my mind was more restless than my limbs.I let out a long yawn, stretching my arms above my head, and for a brief moment, I thought maybe, just maybe, the dream had been a figment of my imagination, something fleeting that would fade soon. But no matter how hard I tried, the unease wouldn’t leave me. The sound of footsteps echoed down the narrow hall of my cell block, breaking me from my thoughts. I turned toward the door, squinting against the dull light streaming through the small, barred window. A shadow app

He paused which made me almost groan when the pleasure stopped. “What?”“I…I want you to mark me,” I repeated. Asides from him holding himself back, I wanted him as well. I couldn’t keep denying the mate bond. That was what I and my wolf wanted. His wolf did as well. “Do you have any idea what you are saying?” he asked in disbelief. “Don’t you want to?” I muttered. “Fuck Daphne, of course I do. That wasn’t what I meant. I want you. I desperately want to claim you as mine but I want to be certain you won’t regret this after.”“I won’t. I’m completely sure about what I want. Go ahead and do it,” I urged. I was glad he cared about my opinion even at a moment like this when it felt like his control was about to snap. He growled and buried his face at the crook of my neck. The sound made its way to my core and I shuddered. “You have no idea how much I’m holding back from devouring you right now little mate. Your scent, the way your juices coat my fingers, it’s all driving me insane,” h

Nick and I stood on the balcony for goodness knows how long in silence. I folded my hands behind me watching the wolves in my pack moving along with their various duties. “Do you remember when we used to come here after having school and training all day?” I inquired still looking ahead. He didn’t respond. “You used to tell me to ignore Kyle whenever he tried to rile me out. You told me I had to study because I will be taking care of all this people one day. A king without a brain is no king, you said. A wise and compassionate king…”“With the ability to exert authority is the one everyone needs and I was right. You turned out to be that king,” he replied cutting me off. I hummed. “I was able to get through years of training because of you. You know that?”“Is that why you called me out here? To tell me all these or is there something else?” he asked.“I owe you an apology,” I muttered turning towards him. “I never thought I would see the day when the great Alpha king would apolog

“That would be all for today. You may all leave now,” I said to the elders after our meeting. My phone rang right at that instant. They bowed in respect before trooping out of the throne-hold. They couldn’t say a word to refute my judgment. They were all wrong about Nick. They defamed his character so due to that, they would have to walk on eggshells around me. I glanced at the screen of the phone and it was an unknown number. I was going to ignore it but something made me pick it up. I had a feeling it could be anyone. Including the ones I had been looking for. “Hello?” There was no response. I waited for a while but a deafening silence followed. “Ryker.” I stood up from the throne when I heard her voice. I had an eerie feeling which turned out to be right. It was her. “You’ve finally decided to speak with me. That’s a surprise considering you were ignoring me all this while,” she added with a snarl. “Where are you?” I inquired in a serious tone. She scoffed. “And you seriously

It was already a week since the tragic incident at the pack. Everyone had been trying to move on from what happened, including myself. I have made so much progress in trying to make peace with my past some that I could focus on myself and achieve my dreams since I was still young. Jasper had made significant progress in trying to beg me to forgive him. I guess there are some things that you forgive but you cannot forget. The fact that you can't forget it makes it hard for you to actually hold on to the forgiveness. After all was said and done, I finally decided that it was time to go back to my parents. They must have been worried for months now that I had been away from the house. I know they would be mad but I am ready to take all the blame and I hope that they understand that I did it because I thought it was going to help me heal rapidly. As I sat there on the edge of the bed in the room, lost in thoughts. A knock suddenly came on the door, jolting me from my reverie as I looked a

“Thank you for showing me around the pack. You don't know what this actually means to me. I hope we do this type of thing more often.” I said in a low tone as I tilted my head to look at Jake who had been taking me round the pack since. He nodded his head slightly, looking away as if he didn't know how to reply to what I said. He chuckled and then turned back to look at me before he started to talk.“I will be entirely glad to do this with you again. I so much enjoyed the company. I don't know about you, but I really did enjoy the company.” I made a scrunching face immediately. “How could he say that? I did enjoy the company and that was why I asked that we did this more often.” I thought for a moment and then took a deep breath as I tilted my head away. We soon arrived at the front of the pack, and he halted his steps immediately, looking into my eyes for a moment. I knew there was something he wanted to say, but I just could not place my hand around it. I waited anxiously for him to

“Authorities are searching for a twenty eight year old Nicola Spencer, wanted for murder charges and a lot of other criminal offenses. Beware of her…”I switched off the television and threw the remote control far away. I couldn’t watch the television anymore without seeing my face in there, I couldn’t read the papers without my name being there. Ryker had really outdone himself in order to get to me. The news was everywhere. Every station, every headline, every social media feed I could think of, my name was all over the place. I had never imagined my life would come to this. A fugitive. I never thought I would ever be branded a murderer. The walls of the shabby motel seemed like they were closing in on me, suffocating me. The overhead light flickered and buzzed which was the only sound in the room. I removed my heels and threw it at the lights. It flickered again but it didn’t stop buzzing. “For fuck’s sake!” I screamed at the top of my voice. This wasn’t how my life was supposed

The kids squealed as I chased them around the living room playfully. They were back from school and the first thing they wanted to do was play hide and seek. How could I refuse those adorable faces? Daphne wanted them to have their meal first but they wouldn’t listen to her. I moved the documents I was working on into the file before it got completely ruined. “So where were we?” I asked as I started chasing them around again. They giggled excitedly. Nothing made me happier than seeing them healthy and happy. I had been so afraid for Asher but not he was completely and fully healed. The doctor said there was no need to worry about the leukemia reoccurring ever again. “Alpha king,” a guard called out to me. I paused from running around with the kids. I had told them not to disturb me unless it was absolutely necessary. “The beta wants to have a word with you. He says it’s urgent,” he added. I glanced at the kids. “Can you kids play by yourself for a minute? I will be right back,” I

I slammed the door shut and headed right from the bathroom. I switched on the faucet and pulled out my hands from the gloves I was putting on. The sight of blood made me angrier. I hurriedly placed my hands under and began to wash them. “Why wouldn’t they just come off?” I groaned out of frustration. I kept on scrubbing but it wasn’t coming off. “Nicola? What are you up to?” Kyle inquired appearing at the entrance of the bathroom. “I went to the grocery store but people won’t just back off. They kept on asking questions about me and then I got upset. It wasn’t my fault. I had no other choice but to get upset. They kept on getting into my business…”“Stop scrubbing your hands,” he ordered. I scoffed looking towards his direction but I didn’t stop scrubbing my hands. “You can’t tell me what to do. I’m not one of your servants. I can do whatever I want,” I retorted. “There are no blood stains on your hand anymore. Your hands are clean now,” he insisted. My eyes darted towards my han

A knock resounded on the door for the second time. “Come in,” I replied. The door opened and Elder Thayer stepped into my office, closing the door behind him. “Alpha king,” he greeted. I pointed towards the chair in front of me and he took a seat. “You sent for me?” he asked curiously. I twirled my pen in my hands. “Don’t you think you owe Nick and I an apology? For spreading false rumors about him.” The doubts all began from him and they all turned out to be wrong. “Like I told you before Alpha king and also your father, I serve the eight packs and the ruler who sits on the throne. I believe whatever I do is for the sake of the pack. I found a good enough reason to doubt the beta and I did just that…”“And you turned out to be completely wrong,” I replied cutting him off. He was one of the few people I could trust. He was completely devoted to his duties to the pack house and wouldn’t hesitate to call out anyone who was a threat to the pack. Even if it had to do with his family.

“Where are you taking me?” I asked in confusion as Marilyn led me down a flight of stairs. She had dressed me up and covered my eyes with a blindfold. “You’ve asked that question for about a million times already,” she replied. “And you haven’t given me a satisfactory response yet. Why can’t you just tell me where we are going?” I complained. She grabbed my dress so I wouldn’t trip on the stairs. “You should learn how to exercise patience. If you would just let me do my job, we will be there in no time,” she assured me. I furrowed my brows. “What job? Since when were you assigned a job?” She didn’t respond. We kept on going down the stairs till we stopped. She dropped my gown on the floor. I could feel myself stepping on something soft but I had no idea what it was. There was also a light sweet fragrance in the air. I disliked being in the dark. Whatever it was, I needed to know right away.“Marilyn? Marilyn where are you?” I asked. I couldn’t feel her presence anymore. “This isn

Avery The stale air of the prison cell felt thick like it was closing in on me from every side. It had been more than a week since I was first thrown in here, but time in a place like this moves differently, slower, heavier. Days blended together, a blur of long hours and clinking chains, the incessant noise of other prisoners shouting or laughing or crying. It all became background noise, something I had learned to shut out.The other women in the cell block didn’t make it easy, though. They knew who I was… Avery Montgomery, the one whose name used to open doors. Now, it was just another target for their jeers.“You really thought you could get away with it, huh?” One of the older women, a stocky brunette with tattoos snaking down her arms, snickered from the corner of the room.I didn’t respond, just stared ahead, pretending I didn’t hear her.“You’re nothing now, honey,” she called out again. “A rich little princess all locked up in a cage. Mrs. Montgomery sat at her grand mahogany desk, the soft glow of the table lamp casting a warm, golden hue across her perfectly manicured hands. She twirled the pen between her fingers, a look of pure satisfaction on her face. It was the kind of contentment that only came with the realization that everything was falling into place and no one could stop her.It took her years to get to this point now, how she had to pretend that she liked Avery all those years, how she had to act as the perfect mother but now she is finally free! She can do all she wants and she won’t hesitate anymore, they all have to pay for everything they have done to her. Her smile grew wider as she thought about the first trial, she remembered the hope in her eyes, Avery was so happy that things were falling into place for her and she waited for the last minutes to strike with what she had, and she burst into laughter. She hadn’t felt that contented in years, she should have killed her when she was young and sh
