"Oh, God! Nowhere, huh?"
Aileen gasped in shock. The hopes that had just soared were now dashed to the ground.
"Shit! Why did they take my phone?" screamed Mark, sounding very annoyed.
Aileen rolled her eyes in disgust.
"Of course they did. It's an unwritten rule of siege procedure. Disarming the victim and their communication devices is the most important thing they have to do," Aileen said in an annoyed tone.
Mark snorted quietly. He was very annoyed by this fact.
"Oh, I hope the cell phone wasn't turned off so the central team can find out where we are now. They'll still be able to find the last place the phone was before it went off."
Aileen decided to give up hope for now. She was now focused on thinking of ways to break free of the restraints and escape the room.
"Can you crush this chair and make a pointy end to hang our ropes from?" Aileen offered her opinion.
Suddenly, Mark thought about such a method. It seems possible, he thought. Then, he struggled to move from his position to the wooden chair at his feet.
Then, resting on his bound hands, he tried to turn around and position himself to sit down. It was hard work, but yes, it worked!
Aileen noticed Mark's actions. She tried to follow suit, but now it was easier as Mark came to her aid, using his legs as a base for her to sit on. It worked!
Now, they both stared at the chair, trying to figure out how to destroy it while still tied up. Mark tried to bend and then quickly straighten his legs to throw the chair as hard as possible against the wall, but it only caused the chair to rattle without breaking at all.
"Oh God! Stop it, Mark! It'll only make them suspicious and come here!" Aileen squealed worriedly.
"Then what?" Mark squealed in frustration.
Some clattering footsteps could be heard in the distance. Suddenly, they both pricked up their ears. Aileen's eyes even seemed to say to Mark: "There they are!"
Damn it, the two grumbled as they had no way of escaping their bonds while the captor was already on his way back to the room.
Unconsciously, they held their breath as the door suddenly slammed open. There were only two large men, whose faces they had seen yesterday, staring at Aileen and Mark, who were now sitting down.
"What are you doing? What's all the commotion outside, huh?" one of them scolded.
"We were just talking," Mark replied with a guiltless shrug of his shoulders. He tried to buy as much time as possible so that the two thugs would not beat them up or make them lie down again. Getting up was difficult enough.
The two thugs approached and checked the bonds on Aileen's and Mark's bodies. Then, still satisfied with the level of security, they went back outside without forgetting to give a warning threat,
"Do not do anything to endanger your own lives! We will not hesitate to hurt you if that happens. Listen!"
The door closed again, and there was another lock outside.
"Shit. This is what it's like to be held hostage," Aileen complained later.
She remembered the mafia movies she often watched where the protagonists were tied up like this. But in those movies, the protagonist was almost always able to easily break free of the restraints in one way or another.
"Don't compare it to movies! It's different. The bonds of real villains are that tight, you know, and you can feel it yourself, right?" Mark sneered as if he had read Aileen's thoughts.
"Oh! How can you even guess where my thoughts are going? Tsk!" Aileen snorted in annoyance.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in his office, William struggled with his thoughts. It had been quite a struggle yesterday to carry the unconscious bodies of Mark and Aileen to the car of his thugs. Not to mention that Laura had to explain to the many employees who had seen the incident that they had both passed out from the poisoning of the same drink.
Now, she just hoped that none of the eyewitness employees would confirm Mark and Aileen's condition to their families. Of course, that would be very dangerous for him later. The police might even get involved!
From Laura, she learned that Aileen was a country girl who lived alone in a rented house while she worked in the city. Ah, thank God, at least for the time being, there would be no relatives to ask about her whereabouts.
He would have time to convince Aileen and Mark later before that happened. He planned to bribe them with whatever they wanted to keep their mouths shut.
"But I think Ms Aileen would strongly resist that bribe, Sir," Laura commented when William mentioned his plan.
"Oh, we'll never know. Money can darken a person's eyes. We'll see if she's as moral as usual when she's offered a lot of dollars," William said confidently.
Although his heart also told him that Mark and Aileen seemed to have a strong stance on bribery, he was still convinced that no matter how strong their stance was, a pile of money could shake it.
After working hours, he went to the detention center with his signed blank check. The profits from his dirty sabotage business had made him so much money so far that he would not hesitate to spend a lot of money to silence Aileen and Mark so that the business could continue as before.
At this point, William entered the room where Mark and Aileen were being held. The two prisoners seemed to be glaring at him, and various insults came out of Aileen's lips as well.
"Come on, you bastard, Mr. William! Let us go now, or you'll be very sorry for what you've done to us!" Aileen shouted with great anger.
She was disgusted to realize that her boss was nothing more than a saboteur who would do anything for personal gain! What a disgusting leader!
"Oh my, Mrs. Aileen. You still act all-powerful when you're in such a helpless position!" William scoffed and sat down in the chair.
"And how shameful of you to think you've won over us just because you have some thuggish henchmen holding us back like yesterday! How shameless!" Mark replied with a suppressed snort.
William laughed discordantly.
"I can do what I want with my money, Mr. Mark. And look at this. I'll give you whatever you want, plus a guaranteed release from here, as long as we... well... have a nice chat afterward."
The mustachioed man's right hand flicked a blank check with a persuasive look that alternated between Aileen and Mark.
"How about it?"
Without even discussing it, the two captives unanimously replied, "NO WAY!"
"I'd rather be homeless than eat the money of the cunning! Taking money from the company and eating it from behind? That's the true definition of a bastard!"
William felt deeply insulted by Mark's words. He was so angry and afraid of being found out that he got up from his chair, lifted it, and smashed it into the romantic man's body.
I don't know what possessed Aileen, but she spontaneously swung her body at Mark.
At the same time, there was a loud rattling sound that made her eyes darken, and a great pain came.
"Aileen!"Mark gasped in surprise.Who would have thought that the girl would be so desperate to protect herself? Oh God!Aileen crouched in front of Mark, gasping for air.Strangely, in the pain that seemed to crush the bones in her shoulders and back where the chair had hit, the only thing that stuck in her mind was Mark's scream calling her Aileen. Without the usual 'Ma'am'. Was it wrong that it sounded so nice to her ears?"Are you okay?" Mark, who was frantically questioning Aileen, checked the condition of the girl in front of him. Then he shifted his position and blocked Aileen from William, who approached them again, even though he no longer had a chair with him. At least the man didn't look like he was going to attack again.Aileen seemed to nod despite the excruciating pain in one shoulder. She was strong enough to bear the pain. Participating in taekwondo activities during high school and college was enough to keep her trained now. Although it had been a long time since she
Three thugs were left behind, overpowered by Mark. Alone, armed, and with a body that was also strong under his suit. If Aileen had seen Mark's skill in dodging and counterattacking his opponents, her admiration for him would have increased dramatically.Unfortunately, the girl was in a race against time herself, and her breathing was ragged. She was unable to stop her steps to take a deep breath. The soles of her feet hurt from the many sharp pebbles and bushes along the way, as it seemed to be a forest area in the middle of nowhere.Aileen, who was just a newcomer and had to work every day as soon as she arrived in the city, needed more time to get to know many other areas outside the city center, which offered everything she needed with complete availability, except, of course, vacations. Yes, come to think of it, she had rarely taken a vacation in the past year. And even when she did, she used it to return to her hometown.Behind her, the sound of running feet came closer. Oh God!
Meanwhile, in the empty building where Mark and Aileen had been held, Mark was left behind, trying his best to knock down one thug after another who had ganged up on him. It was hard; he was knocked down several times while trying to attack one, but he was caught from behind by the other. Damn it!"Aaarrggh!"He groaned in pain several times, though he tried to hold it in, not wanting to be humiliated. The situation was made worse by the presence of William, who immediately pulled his gun from his pocket. The saboteur was not fooling around. He had a gun, but he was probably still reluctant to use it on Aileen."Two principled people!" William shouted angrily. His voice was that of a wounded lion. He must have been afraid that Aileen, who managed to escape, would expose everything.Ah, at least Aileen is safe, Mark thought as he didn't see any of the thugs who had chased Aileen earlier return with the girl. He had to put his hands up because he didn't want to be shot by William, who w
Mark searched the forest for Aileen's tracks. But it took work to find tracks anywhere. Especially when it was already night, and there was no light in the forest except the headlights of his car.Feeling that he would find nothing, Mark drove the car to the paved road he saw after leaving the forest area. From there, he searched for the nearest police station. For some reason, he was sure he would find Aileen there. When he found the first police station, it was closed. Still, there was an officer on duty, and Mark saw that a woman was writing a report in front of the officer. Aileen!Since it was closed, the officer on duty was only working on Aileen's report in the glass front room that Mark could see from outside. He got out of the car immediately and walked with a slight limp toward the girl who had been occupying his mind. It was a relief to see Aileen in good shape. He don't know how she survived.Aileen and the guard looked up as they saw a car pull into the yard. And Aileen ev
"All right, sorry," Aileen said and rolled her eyes. It didn't feel good when they were arguing."But can I trade it for yours?" Aileen asked later when she saw a bowl of beef soup in front of Mark with an aroma that was quite tasty.Mark gave Aileen a quick look and exchanged their menu, which were both untouched. With a smile, Aileen finally enjoyed her food and ate until it was clean. Meanwhile, Mark did the same, although it took longer because his lips were injured and his jaw hurt from chewing. He even thought he might have a crack.Fortunately, when he returned and the X-rays came out, the results were all good. There were no internal injuries—just abrasions and bruises, which should disappear with a simple antiseptic."Where is your address?" Aileen asked later, once she was back behind the wheel.Mark grimaced in amusement. "To your house. I'll drive you home from there," Mark replied with an assertiveness that could not be denied.Aileen did not refuse. She was indeed very ti
Mark coughed. "Damn it! Telling me to rest, but asking for a full report tomorrow! That's crazy! The Marketing Manager needs a break as well. She's locked up with me too, you know! That's too bad. I'll only be able to send the email in two days," Mark replied with a snort.Lucas could be so insensitive sometimes! Workaholic, but without any humanity! That's why Mark was sometimes thankful that he wasn't Lucas's sibling. He wouldn't have been able to bear it if he had a character like Lucas's.There was laughter from the other side. Which made Mark even more annoyed."That's it. The important thing is that I ask for it soon. Don't take too long," Lucas concluded as he ended the call he had made to the phone in Mark's apartment because his cell phone had been unreachable."Such a mad workaholic!" grumbled Mark as he went back to compressing the bruises on his face. His face was reflected in the glass of the closet before him. "Oh dear! It's swollen again." He grumbled to himself. Annoye
"Shit! How about that! There's no traceable cell phone or anything like a clue!" Mark growled. He kicked the sofa to make it sag even more. And there he saw one thing! A wad of paper that seemed to have been deliberately left behind! He quickly grabbed the wad of paper torn from the notebook. He flattened it until he could read what was written on it."Mark, meet us at the old building behind Helga Mall. There we exchange!" Mark read the sloppy, italicized writing written with a blue marker.Mark captured the paper and sent it to Mr. Ben."Mr Ben, William has kidnapped Aileen! I need help. When I get there, I'll go to the location. Bring the troops, but remember, it has to be in silent mode, and you can't get caught!" he ordered firmly."Yes, sir!""Lives are at stake! Be careful, Mr. Ben! Could you not follow me? We must pass in the opposite direction to avoid suspicion," Mark continued. After giving Mr. Ben his instructions, Mark returned to the car and drove to where William had wr
"Mark. It's me. Come quickly. William was so careless that he let all the thugs get you. He was alone here, and I managed to knock him out!"Unexpectedly, it was Aileen's voice. Mark was spontaneously stunned."What? Tell me where you are!""I'm in an apartment. The door is locked, and I can't find the key anywhere. It's on a high floor, and even the windows are locked," Aileen tried to explain."What apartment, Aileen? Give me the name or the location, for God's sake!" Mark shouted impatiently."I don't know. I was ambushed last night with my eyes closed. I don't know where they took me. Suddenly, I was in here. But from the glass window, it looks like it's on a high floor, and the view is straight to the mall on the left if you're coming from Valley Streets." Aileen mentioned the only landmarks she could draw from the surroundings.Mark thought for a moment. The apartment whose high floor overlooked the left side of the mall from Valley streets... damn, how could he know. He had only
