They all turned to the opened door where the subject stood. She closed it right away as she’s carrying two eco-bags full of food. Under the yellowish light of the room, they could see her sweat forming on her forehead.

“What happened to you?” Kathleen reached to one of the bags to help her. Theresa grimaced and shook her head. “Long story, but it all started with the traffic.”

“Oh, yeah? I bet mine’s longer. Get over there,” Kathleen took the other bag and volunteered to place them in the fridge.

Theresa looked at Tomoya and then Takumi and then back to Tomoya as though she’s asking what’s going on, but he only shrugged and pointed the vacant seat beside him.

“What’s going on?” She whimpered the moment she sat down, slightly elbowing Tomoya’s shoulder.

“Where were you?” Tomoya bypassed her question. “I thought you escaped; I almost told them your little secret,” he grinned.

“Let’s get this done,” Kathleen spoke soon after, capturing everyone’s attention. She stood on the other side of

“No,” Tomoya answered.“They mean destruction. Anything or anyone with these marks are bound to be destroyed. He also made a deal with the girl you were talking about earlier,” he didn’t say the name as it would trigger Takumi.“Chances are, he’s either cursed, given that he’s marked, a spiritualist, or a seer. They are the only ones capable of performing deals, trades… and such.”“A seer?” Kathleen echoed when she remembered something. It’s vague, but she’s sure it wasn’t just a part of her distorted memory. “Right! Before I passed out, Christian said something about a seer—a seer who seeks death... from personal gain?”Her statement sounded like a question, but her eyes travelled to Theresa who stood quiet beside Tomoya in front of her, near Christian’s shoulder. Kathleen saw her throat moved up and down as though she’s been suspected.“A seer,” she muttered as her brows met.“Theresa… you’re a seer, right?”“Ah—yeah. W-Why else would I be here?”“That’s the only reason she’s here,”

“What’s wrong?” Tomoya asked as soon as he closed the door behind him. Takumi didn’t answer right away.He side-eyed the door knob and back forward. “Nothing’s logical about her actions,” he placed a finger across his lips, thinking.“Nothing’s logical about everything,” Tomoya corrected. He placed the grimoire back in the bag."You know what I mean. I’m talking about Theresa. She seems perplexed about what’s happening.”“Oh… uh… you noticed?” Tomoya looked from side to side, obviously hinting Takumi.“What are you, two, up to?” His forehead creased.Tomoya exhaled. He’s not sure if Takumi didn’t really have the idea or he’s just acting clueless to spare himself the awkward situation. The man is emotionally unavailable—literally.“Oh, c’mon! It’s written all over her face, nii-san. Use your MDs.”“None of them are for mind-reading,” Takumi walked before Tomoya could react and it only took two steps for him to chase after his first six ones. Soon enough, he’s already walking alongside h

Kaiser casted himself towards the vague illumination of the single tubular light bulb. Faint figures stirred across it, catching their defined forms as he came closer.“Where’s Mr. Hunt?” He asked to one of the three men, clothed in white garment. They stood in front of an underground dungeon as it may be… as it should be.“Well, well, well…” the man grinned and removed his gray cap, revealing a face of a middle-aged man; shallow crow’s feet forming on the corners of his droopy hooded eyes.“It’s been a while, Kaiser. What have we got this time? Can we cross the other realm now?”“Soon,” Kaiser’s voice remained low. He didn’t have any problem engaging a conversation with them; however, he’s in a hurry."He’s in his lair,” one of the men joked. Heaving a deep breath, Kaiser nodded and stepped into what he always believes to be one of the gates of hell. It’s dingy and the air feels dry despite having liquids randomly dripping from the clammy ceiling.Slowly, he started hearing screams mi

“Look,” he took a small step away from the railings. “Just spare the women and the children. They could never contribute from whatever you, guys, are planning. Don’t you feel bad about them?” He turned to look at the individuals behind him, cowering in fear in the corners of the thronged cell. Most of them are, indeed, children and women in various races. Kaiser held his head down. “It’s not for me decide,” he talked between breaths. “Besides, the moment Mr. Hunt finds out that Diego escaped, do you think he's not gonna take anyone’s life? Most likely, he’ll take those who have no use to him.” Jay teetered all of the sudden, staggering backwards. How did he notice? Diego is the least noticeable person among them. Ever since Jay entered the place, he’s never seen him get out; he’s never been tortured the entire time he’s there either. “Don’t stress yourself too much, I met him outside. He tried killing Kathleen. I assume you know her. She’s one of the supervisors of the company you’

“You know the reason why I keep him around.”Kaiser watched the man’s broad shoulders, contract, as he shrugs to his white long sleeves, pulling it up.He couldn’t say anything; he knows their deal. Mr. Hunt finally turned to face him who’s standing near the entrance, both hands fixed behind his back, showing respect to his master—hiding the burns.Mr. Hunt hauled himself up out of the bottom of his antique Morris chair, which seemed to be hauling back as well.“Everyone I talked to today mentioned the scandal my son did and I’ve seen it on TV. Did you actually think I won’t find out about it?” Mr. Hunt’s tonality sounded calm. Truly, it’s utterly normal—looks normal; however, it’s the exact contrary. He’s inarticulately incensed.“My apologies, master,” Kaiser held his eyes down. “Don’t worry, I’ll fix this from here. Please just let Scott take his time to heal.”“Hmm,” Mr. Hunt scoffed. As he clads, he made himself comfortable in his chair, considering Kaiser’s posture to make himsel

The air outside the window of the hospital room is getting warm and unstirring as the sun slowly crept up the darkened heights, making Kathleen feel a little bit uneasy. The air conditioner is clearly working; however, she could feel sweat misting her forehead. She turned to look at Theresa, still sleeping on the couch. Nothing’s happening, she thought. Now her eyes flew back to Christian. Her heart is beating so fast; the tips of her fingers are tingling—she doesn’t have any idea why; nonetheless, she feels as though something bad is going to happen again. Whatever it is, she had already packed herself a couple of punches.“It’s too early for you to be looking like that.”Kathleen had to look back at Theresa who pushed herself up with one hand. “Looking like what?”“Looking so helpless.” “We wouldn’t be so helpless if you could start helping us with the visions,” Kathleen had to say it and swiftly took a note of Theresa’s sudden change of expressions. “Hmm…” her eyes squinted. “I

"How'd you know about all these?" Kathleen mustered all her will to finally land an intriguing question against the man whom she doubts to be a real doctor. "It's all over the internet. Why? Do you actually think all of you can hide it? Samantha's disappearance has become the top one topic to almost social media platforms," doctor Kim shrugged. "That's not what I'm asking, doctor Kim, or whoever you are! For all I know, you might be one of the demons." "Wow," doctor Kim placed a hand in the air, seemingly teasing. "That's clearly a baseless accusation, miss. I just happen to be one of those cursed ones who have weak bindings. I came here, expecting to meet with Takumi, but I guess he's not here anymore." "He knows Takumi, too," Kathleen mentally mumbled. "Relax, I'm not gonna cause you any trouble," doctor Kim suddenly shifted to a reassuring voice. "As a matter of fact, if you need any help tonight, I can lend you a hand." "W-What in the actual fuck are you talking about?"

In the dim, flickering light of the hospital's corridor, Takumi paced back and forth, his breath coming in tagged gasps. Shadows danced on the walls, twisting into distorted shapes that seemed to be mocking his terror. "First it's Zach, and now him," he hissed between words. He didn't understand how to react. For the first time, Kathleen had saw him so troubled that he had to leave before doctor amim could say anything. Right there, she knew the doctor will bring changes into the things that will happen prior to Theresa's visions. Takumi looked at her who laid unconscious on the emergency hospital bed. Beside her is another doctor discussing the happenings to Tomoya who acted as Theresa's boyfriend for the purpose of confidentiality. Only a few are treated inside and the silence is bothering him even more. Takumi was visibly uncomfortable to where he stood. He wanted to go back in Christian's room, but his emotions overpowered him. Quite ironic for someone who had sold his h

Theresa’s gaze flickered toward Samantha, her fingers absently tightening around the hem of her sleeve. She sat on the couch across from her, positioned beside Tomoya, but despite their proximity, she felt miles away from the conversation about to unfold. Samantha, for her part, remained unnervingly still. Beside her, Kathleen’s posture was equally rigid, her hands clasped tightly in her lap, as though bracing for the inevitable. No one in the room looked prepared for what was coming. The silence stretched, thick and suffocating, until the sharp chime of the doorbell shattered it. Tomoya sprang up, his movements quick—almost desperate. He didn’t make the same mistake as before. This time, he peered through the peephole, his shoulders visibly relaxing only after confirming the identity of the visitor. With a swift motion, he unlatched the door, revealing Takumi. The moment he stepped inside, all eyes locked onto him. Except for Theresa. She couldn’t bring herself to l

She darted forward, gripping Theresa’s arm with a careful but firm touch.“Theresa,” Kathleen’s voice was soft but urgent. “Come inside.”There was no resistance. Theresa allowed herself to be pulled in, her eyes never leaving Samantha, as if afraid that if she looked away, she would vanish.Tomoya, still on edge, cast a quick glance over his shoulder before shutting the door. He lingered for a moment, scanning the dimly lit hallway, ensu

The morning erupted in chaos before Samantha even had a chance to process where she was. The muffled sound of a ringing phone reverberated through Tomoya’s small apartment, followed by the sharp clatter of something being knocked over. From the kitchen, the scent of burnt coffee mixed with the faint tang of disinfectant, remnants of whatever frantic cleaning had taken place the night before. She sat on the worn-out couch, her fingers curling around the fabric of Tomoya’s blanket draped over her lap. Her mind was sluggish, heavy with exhaustion, yet confusion gnawed at her. Why was she here? Why Tomoya’s apartment, of all places? If Takumi wanted to keep her safe, wouldn’t Kathleen’s home have been a more logical choice? Kathleen would have welcomed her without hesitation. But instead, she had woken up to Tomoya pacing the small living room, muttering to himself, his laptop glowing with lines of code she couldn’t decipher. Samantha’s pulse quickened as she tried to recall the las

  • Between Heaven and Hell   Chapter 113

The stillness of the Takahashi estate lingered in the air like a suffocating fog, broken only by the hurried footsteps of Anwar and Anthony as they dragged Gerald back inside. The young guard’s face was pale, his wide eyes darting around like a hunted animal. “I… I swear I didn’t mean to wander around,” Gerald stammered. “Something… something pulled me into the garden. I just… got lost.” Takumi’s sharp gaze pierced through him, but he said nothing, gesturing for Anwar and Anthony to continue their investigation. When they reached the surveillance room, the scene before them deepened the mystery. Two guards, barely conscious and bloodied, were slumped against the consoles. Their wounds weren’t life-threatening but told a tale of a brutal struggle. The air in the room was thick with the metallic tang of blood and the faint hum of the untouched monitors. “Junel,” one of the injured guards managed to rasp. “It… it was him. He attacked us out of nowhere… like he was possessed.” Anthon

"J-Junel! What’s going on? What are you doing?" Samantha’s voice cracked as fear tightened its grip on her throat. Her feet stumbled backward as Junel advanced with slow, deliberate steps, his shadow looming larger under the dim light. Samantha’s heart pounded wildly, her eyes flicking between the knife in his trembling hand and his face—blank, emotionless, and eerily pale. His movements were mechanical, devoid of humanity, as if he were a puppet pulled by unseen strings. "C-Cut it out, Junel!" she pleaded, her voice breaking into a desperate groan. "One more step, and I’ll scream! The guards—they’re right outside. I swear, I’ll sue you!" But Junel didn’t stop. His gaze, glassy and unfocused, passed through her as though she weren’t there. He moved with a haunting slowness, each step a deliberate march toward her. Samantha's stomach churned as she realized something was horribly wrong. This wasn’t Junel—at least not the Junel she knew. It was as if a stranger had stepped into

"You need what now?" Zach’s voice was sharp, though he leaned closer as if Takumi’s request was somehow a mistake he had misheard. Takumi sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. The words had been difficult enough to say the first time, but now he had to repeat himself. “Samantha’s belongings. The ones taken from her office and from her home for evidence after the incident.” Zach sat back in his chair, his expression shifting from disbelief to suspicion. “You’re kidding me. That’s highly restricted material. Chain of custody rules. You know I can’t just hand it over.” “I’m not asking you to hand anything over,” Takumi replied evenly. “I just need access. A chance to examine them.” “For what?” Zach asked, his tone laced with doubt. “You think her hairbrush or her diary is going to solve this mess?” “It’s not about the belongings themselves,” Takumi said, his voice calm but firm. “It’s about what they might reveal. Patterns, traces—clues that could explain what’s been happenin

Outside, she cast a glance at Takumi’s butler, who stood rigidly by the car. “Not joining us, sir?” she called out with a casual edge. The butler smiled faintly. “I’ll wait here, detective.”Dryzza shrugged and headed into the station. Inside, she spotted Takumi seated at Zach’s desk, his posture deceptively relaxed but his eyes betraying an intensity that made her pause. Across the room, Sai was furiously dialing Zach’s number on the office phone.“Why’d you leave him out there?” Dryzza hissed as she slipped into the chair beside Sai.Sai glanced at her, lowering his voice. “He wasn’t saying much—just sitting there quietly. It’s unnerving.”Dryzza’s lips curved into a sly grin. “Sounds like a golden opportunity.” Without waiting for Sai’s protest, she strolled toward Takumi. She eased into the chair across from him, letting the silence stretch. "Where are you heading this time, Dryz?" Sai's voice cut through the quiet night as he hastily followed Dryzza toward her car, his footsteps echoing against the pavement."Go back inside, Sai," she replied, her tone low and clipped, almost swallowed by the soft hum of the wind. She pulled open the car door with an air of finality, her movements precise and deliberate."Not until you tell me where you're planning to go," Sai groaned, quickly stepping in front of the car, blocking her path with arms spread wide. "Don't tell me you're going to storm into Dr. Takahashi's manor. We're set to search the place again tomorrow. Can't you just wait and stick to the process?"Dryzza's jaw tightened, her knuckles gripping the edge of the car door. "If we stick to the process, every step we take will already be anticipated," she countered, her voice sharp yet calm."And what will that accomplish?" Sai snapped, his frustration bleeding into his words. "Gathering evidence that can't even be used in
