My eyes flutter open for the second time, and I find myself in an unfamiliar surroundings, greeted by bright white lights that pierce through the haze of confusion. The sterile scent of antiseptic fills the air, carrying with it the distant echoes of hurried footsteps and muffled voices. Sitting up on the bed, I take in my surroundings, my brows furrowing as I realize I'm in what appears to be a hospital room. The walls are a muted shade of blue, adorned with framed landscapes that seem to try and inject a sense of calm into the clinical atmosphere. The faint hum of machinery provides a constant backdrop to the scene, punctuated by occasional beeps and whirs.

The sight of the hospital gown draped over me confirms my suspicions, its fabric thin. But it's the heart monitor beside my bed that drives home the reality of my situation, its rhythmic blips and spikes serving as a tangible link to the fragility of life.

"You want me to sign a contract agreeing to divorce you when the two packs have stabilized and that our divorce won’t affect it. This is some kind of joke, right?" Alex’s voice drips with sarcasm as he enters my room in the silver pack. I spin around, meeting his gaze head-on. "No, it’s not."Alex stared at me in disbelief. "You can't be serious. After everything we've been through, you will just walk away?" I fold my arms, holding firm. "The contract is for the good of both packs. Once they're stabilized, it's best we go our separate ways.""Best for who?" Alex shouts. "Did you ever stop to consider if I would also want this?"I turn away, bitterness welling up inside. I picture Alex picking Alice instead of me. "Please sign the contract," I said coldly. “Our engagement ceremony is barely days away. No, I won’t."I release a deep breath, my gaze locked onto Alex. The weight of my request hangs heavy between us, the tensi

ALEX Sitting alone in my room, I take a sip of whiskey and sink back into the couch. The memories of my interactions with Hannah over the past few hours play on a loop in my head, each moment etched with a pang of guilt and regret. I know that choosing Alice over Hannah must have hurt her deeply, but she needs to understand that it wasn't a decision I made lightly. It wasn't because I wanted to hurt her or because I didn't care about her. It was a choice forced upon me by the circumstances. Alice is the mate of my younger brothers, and their bond is just as sacred as mine with Hannah. When faced with the ultimatum from my brothers, I had no choice but to choose Alice. They argued that she was weaker and less capable of protecting herself, whereas Hannah had the skills to fend for herself. But it's not like I abandoned Hannah to fend for herself. I had every intention of going back for her, of

ALEXSeated in my room, a glass of brandy in hand, I reflect on the days that have passed since Hannah left me in that hotel room without forgiving me. I thought saying sorry, as Eden advised, would make things better between us again, but it didn't work. Tonight, I texted her about our engagement ceremony tomorrow, but she hasn’t replied for hours.I take another sip of my drink, a knot of worry tightens in my chest. The possibility of Hannah backing out of our engagement crosses my mind, though I know her well enough to believe she wouldn't do such a thing. Still, the lack of response leaves me unsettled, my thoughts consumed by what might be keeping her from replying. Before I can dwell on it further, a knock at the door interrupts my reverie. Inviting the person in, I find myself sighing as Alice enters the room. Since her rescue, Alice has been a constant presence, her belief that I chose her over Hannah in a moment of cris

I slide off Alex and settle beside him, his arm wrapping around me as his fingers trace gentle circles on my belly. We sit in silence, neither of us uttering a word, just catching our breaths until Alex finally speaks."Was what I witnessed today a usual occurrence?" he inquires, his voice tinged with confusion. I toy with his fingers, tracing patterns on my belly. At that moment, I realized he must have wanted to talk about it earlier but was unable to due to the ceremony and our subsequent need to mate."But I don't understand. According to Alice, you were always the one who was pampered by your parents and harsh on her sister," Alex says, confusion evident in his voice."Can we not talk about it?" I interject, turning to face him. I don't want to discuss my parents or my difficult relationship with my sister. I didn't want to ruin the moment. He gazes at me for a moment before finally nodding, pulling me closer, and kissing me. The kiss begins s

HANNAH The shrill ring of my phone slices through the silence of the room. With a reluctant groan, I peel back from the warmth of my duvet, the chill of the room prickling my skin as I stretch a hand toward the scattered contents of my purse on the floor. My fingers fumble for the device, the cold touch of the screen against my palm grounding me back to reality. "Hi, Mom," I croak out, my voice a raspy whisper, raw from the tears that had carved rivers down my cheeks earlier. "Are you happy now? Are you?" Mom's voice is a sharp bark through the speaker, each word a staccato that makes my brows knit together in confusion. "What are you talking about, Mom? Is something wrong?" I inquire, my voice laced with concern as I hold the phone to my ear. "Is something wrong? Did you really just ask me if something is wrong?" Six years laterThe sky hangs heavy with gray clouds, casting a somber pallor over the cemetery. A steady, cold rain patters against the black canopy of our umbrella, each drop echoing the ache in our hearts. The chill in the air seeps into our bones, an unwelcome reminder that even as spring struggles to emerge, grief knows no season. The wind sighs through the skeletal trees, carrying with it the earthy scent of damp soil and the delicate perfume of early blossoms. As we stand at the wrought-iron gates, the weight of sorrow presses down upon us, suffocating in its intensity.Alex grips my hand tightly, our fingers intertwining, as our five-year-old daughter, Arabella, nestles between us beneath the shelter of the umbrella. Her small hand clutches a posy of wildflowers, their vibrant petals a stark contrast to the monochrome landscape. She gazes up at me, her wide, gray eyes—so like her father’s—brimming with questions she’s still too young to articulate. In the soft curve of her che

Too many people are still counting on me, relying on my strength to make sure that doesn’t repeat itself.Seeking a distraction from the thoughts swirling in my head, I decide to check on Mila. Perhaps her company will provide a much-needed respite. I make my way down the corridor, my footsteps echoing hollowly, and knock gently on her door. No response. A tendril of concern winds its way through me as I call out, “Mila? Are you here?”Only silence answers me. Taking a deep breath, I slowly push open the door and step inside, my eyes widening in shock at the sight that greets me. Mom finishes the story, her voice quivering as she recalls how fiercely I resisted when they tried to lock my memories. She confesses she was initially reluctant to take Alice because of the immense risk involved, but her parents’ insistence and her desperation to keep me safe forced her hand.“Wow, I had my reservations about the Alpha and Luna of the Bloodmoon Pack, but finding out they offered Alice despite knowing the risks leaves me utterly speechless,” Alex says, his eyes wide with astonishment.“Me too,” Mom replies, her voice heavy with disdain. “They were so power-hungry. They saw Alice as a means to gain a more powerful daughter.”“Yeah, but their plan backfired since my memories were locked away with the power,” I say, and Mom nods in agreement, her expression somber.“How about Kevin? How did he end up with you after being presumed dead?” Alex asks, leaning forward with curiosity.“He discovered what his parents did and was furious. All this time, he believed Alice was wit

Broken bodies litter the earth - men, women, even children, their limbs contorted at grotesque angles. Pools of crimson spread outward, staining the grass a deep, violent red. More savage, more merciless, a massacre of innocents.“Alex!” A familiar voice cuts through the eerie silence.
