Arabella stood before the mirror, staring at her reflection with a mix of emotions. The gown Jimmy had given her was nothing short of breathtaking—a white evening dress with an elegant cut that hugged her figure perfectly. The fabric draped gracefully, accentuating her slender waist and exposing her delicate shoulders. Her usually neatly tied black hair was left loose, framing her face with effortless beauty. A touch of makeup highlighted her features, making her look even more stunning.

As she stepped out of her room, she halted for a moment, feeling two pairs of eyes locked onto her. Jimmy, who was usually composed and professional, seemed utterly dumbfounded, as if he couldn’t believe the sight before him.

“Wow,” he muttered unconsciously. To Jimmy, it was as if a goddess had descended from the heavens.

Arabella stifled a small laugh. “Don’t tell me you don’t recognize me, Jimmy.”

Jimmy blinked a few times before finally chuckling and shaking his head. “Forgive me, ma’am. I just… w

Arabella couldn’t hide her shock. Her husband’s cousin had the audacity to act so rudely toward her. Before attending the party, she had studied the Hans Anderson family tree. She recognized the man before her—Adam Anderson, Harry’s cousin from Aunt Amelia. Aunt Amelia was Aunt Tessa’s younger sister.“Let me go, Adam Anderson!” Arabella snapped, trying to yank her hand away, but his grip was too strong.Adam chuckled darkly. “Oh, come on. We both know you wouldn’t resist something far more thrilling than just the night air.”Disgust churned in Arabella’s stomach. Her fury ignited. She knew exactly what Adam meant, and she would never be his victim like the other women who had fallen for his traps. Her breath came faster, and before Adam could take things further, she moved.A swift kick to his shin sent Adam stumbling. With quick reflexes, she tore her arm free from his grip and landed a solid punch straight to his jaw. A loud thud echoed as Adam crashed to the ground, cursing in pai

Harry haggled the wheelchair with dignified caution, but a tempest raged in his breast. Adam had gone too far. His previous words still echoed in Harry's mind, piercing his pride step by step.He was a useless husband. But what gnawed at him more was that Arabella had to suffer all alone.Did Harry tell her so in so many words? No. Did he show concern for Arabella? Not by any means. His pride was higher than that.Harry quietly decided to depart the party early. He did not notice curious glances from partygoers or even the shock-stricken face of Aunt Tessa to see him unceremoniously deciding to leave without a word. The prime feature hadn’t yet started.“Harry must be offended and enraged,” Arabella whispered to herself, lifting up her beautiful gown as she followed him, although with a pout.Inside the car on their way home, the atmosphere was stifling. The only sound was the tires rolling over the asphalt. Arabella sat in the backseat, head resting on the window, face half-illuminat

“Do you feel like working, or are you looking for an excuse to be out of the house more than usual?” Harry’s tone was acidic.Arabella’s heart skipped a beat, but she kept her cool. Harry was always like that—shrewd, unshakeable. But she had already practiced what she would say.“I just want to do something deserving. I could perhaps assist in the office or maybe in one of the family businesses.” She diplomatically refused to be more specific, realizing this would only invite more questions and spoil her scheme.Harry let out a small snort. “Arabella, we're barely a married couple. So go to work by all means. But I have to know your true motive.”Arabella caught her breath for a moment before speaking. She couldn't believe how easily Harry agreed. “I need something to do with my time, Harry. That’s all.”Harry raised an eyebrow.Harry observed her closely, as if trying to read her mind. Arabella tried to keep calm, refusing to let any apprehension creep into her voice. Finally, Harry

Arabella stepped out of Edwin’s office with her mind in turmoil. The answers her father had given her felt too neat, too rehearsed. She bit her lip, trying to push away the strange feeling gnawing at her chest. But no matter how hard she tried to ignore it, the unease only grew stronger. As she reached the sidewalk, raindrops began to fall. At first, they were gentle, but within seconds, a heavy downpour engulfed the city. Arabella raised her hand to shield her face as the wind howled, whipping her long hair in every direction.“Great! Another downpour,” she muttered, regretting her hasty decision to leave the office without an umbrella or a raincoat.Terraverde Village had been unpredictable lately, caught in the midst of seasonal transitions. Not wanting to stand in the rain any longer, she waved at an approaching car, assuming it was a taxi. To her dismay, the vehicle sped past her, splashing dirty water all over her clothes. It was only then that she realized—it wasn’t a taxi.“Yo

The car moved slowly through the quiet city streets. The dim glow of the streetlights cast soft shadows against the window, painting fleeting images that disappeared as quickly as they came. Arabella sat silently in the passenger seat, her gaze distant as she stared outside. Mike, his hands gripping the steering wheel, stole occasional glances at her. He wasn’t giving up. He didn’t care whether Arabella was married or not.“Bella…” His voice was gentle, almost a whisper. “I know you’re still mad at me. I know I let you down.”Arabella remained silent, her hands folded in her lap. Only the soft hum of the engine and the rhythmic patter of rain filled the space between them.“I never wanted to hurt you,” Mike continued, tightening his grip on the wheel. “I regret it. Ever since you got married, I haven’t stopped thinking about how I should have fought for you. How I should have tried harder. I was a fool for letting you go.”Arabella took a deep breath. Her eyes were still fixed outside

The golden hues of the evening sky seeped through the large windows of the rehabilitation room, casting long shadows on the polished floor. The faint scent of antiseptic mixed with the soothing aroma of freshly brewed tea. In the center of the room, Harry sat in his wheelchair, his gaze fixed straight ahead, locked onto the parallel bars standing tall before him.The medical team was already in position. A stout, middle-aged physiotherapist named Dr. Raymond stood beside him, his expression calm yet encouraging. “We’ll start slow today, Harry. There’s no rush,” he said patiently.Harry inhaled deeply. He knew this wouldn’t be easy. His legs had long lost their strength, his muscles had weakened, and the pain that awaited him was inevitable. But determination burned in his chest. He had to walk again.Dr. Raymond crouched beside him, gently assessing the condition of his legs with careful hands. “I’ll help you stand first, then we’ll try small steps. If it hurts, tell me. The morning air outside the window was still cold. The sun had just begun to rise, painting the sky with hues of golden orange. Arabella sat at the dining table in silence—something that had been rare in the past few weeks.Breakfast was usually a battlefield between her and Harry—over countless things. But today was different. Harry was unusually quiet. He wasn’t bossing her around, nor was he provoking an argument. He looked like a teenager lost in thought.Seated across from her, Harry sipped his black coffee slowly, occasionally glancing at Arabella as she nibbled on a piece of toast. The clinking of cutlery against porcelain echoed louder than usual in the quiet atmosphere. No sarcastic remarks from Harry, no sharp words or pointed jabs—just silence stretching between them.“Harry.” Arabella’s voice finally broke the stillness, soft yet resolute. “I want your permission to go to work today.”Harry lowered his cup, raising an eyebrow with an unreadable expression. “Oh?”Arabella n

After Arabella left, Edwin immediately called Harry, furious.[What do you mean? You’re not supporting Arabella? That was part of our deal!] Edwin's voice rose, filled with accusation.Harry leaned back in his wheelchair, trying to contain his own anger. [I don’t understand what you mean, Mr. Edwin.][Don’t play dumb! You made her come here and beg for a job. That means you’re not giving her enough! You broke your promise!]Edwin emphasized each word sharply. [Listen! Arabella came here wanting a job!]Harry ran a frustrated hand over his face. [I never abandoned her. Be careful with your words, Sir!]Harry clenched his jaw. He knew Arabella had lied about her job. But why would she go so far?The man let out an irritated huff. He needed to teach Arabella a lesson so she wouldn’t do whatever she pleased.***The sky was turning a shade of purple when Arabella finally arrived home. After leaving her father’s house, Arabella went straight to the forensic laboratory owned by her old friend, Tom—a toxicologist working at an independent research institute. They had been close during college, and now, he was one of the few people she could still trust.Tom studied the wine bottle, now wrapped in cloth, sitting on the table before him. He raised an eyebrow and glanced at Arabella with curiosity.“This wine... are you sure there’s something wrong with it?” he asked while slipping on a pair of latex gloves.“My father collapsed a few hours after drinking it. He was rushed to the hospital. I thought it was just exhaustion…” Arabella replied softly. “Please check. Whatever you find—I need to know.”Tom nodded, his expression turning serious. “I’ll treat this like a personal case. If I pull an all-nighter, you’ll get the results by tomorrow morning.”“Thank you, Tom,” Arabella said sincerely, her eyes reflecting her weariness. “I don’t know who else I can trust right now.”

After the conversation with Harry, Arabella dragged herself into her room, her steps heavy and drained of strength. She didn’t say another word to Harry, who remained in the living room, eyes fixed blankly on the television he wasn’t really watching.Without glancing back, Arabella headed straight to the bathroom. She needed time—time to breathe, to calm the storm inside her chest. Time to find a moment of peace from the heartache that had yet to fade.Warm water cascaded over her face and body, washing away both exhaustion and the tears she had held back for hours. When she stepped out, she changed into a gray T-shirt and loose pants, pulling on a jacket to brace for the chill outside. Her hair was still damp when she emerged from her room.Harry glanced at her briefly from the corner of his eye, then quickly looked away—pretending not to care. Yet, his fingers curled tighter around the armrest of his wheelchair.Arabella paused and looked at him.“I’m going to the hospital again. It

“Let me go, Mike!” Arabella’s voice cracked down the hospital hallway. She shoved his chest with all her strength, causing Mike to stumble back, nearly losing his balance. Her eyes were blazing, her breath uneven. She stared at him with a mixture of fury and disbelief. Her body still trembled from the unwanted embrace—an embrace that, unfortunately, had been witnessed by the one person who should never have misunderstood: her husband, Harry.“Are you insane?! Harry saw us! He walked away without a word!” she snapped, her voice raw with pain.Mike looked down, fists clenched. “I didn’t know he was here, Bella. I just… I saw you crying alone. I was worried.”“You always bring trouble, Mike. You shattered me once, and now you’ve made my husband think I—” Arabella bit her lip. Tears threatened to fall again, but she forced them back.“I’m sorry. I truly am,” Mike said softly. “If I could turn back time, I’d never—”“—cheat with Helena?” Arabella cut him off, her glare piercing. “You cheat

“What do you mean, Doctor? Poison?”Arabella’s voice trembled, rising almost into a shout as the words flew from her lips. Her eyes widened, locked onto the stern-faced middle-aged doctor standing in the hospital’s consultation room.“We detected a harmful substance in Mr. Edwin’s bloodstream. We can’t identify it yet, but the toxicology team is running further tests,” the doctor explained calmly.Luna shut her eyes tightly, her left hand gripping the edge of her shawl. Helena stood stiffly in the corner, arms folded, jaw clenched.Arabella turned to face them, her breath uneven. “So... Dad was poisoned? This wasn’t just a regular heart attack?”“The heart attack may have been triggered by the substance,” the doctor replied cautiously. “We’ll need to wait for the full results. In the meantime, we advise the family to remain alert.”As soon as the doctor exited, a tense silence took over the room. Arabella stood still for a moment, then turned sharply toward Luna.“Was it you?”Her acc

The sky had already turned dark when Harry finally realized Arabella hadn’t come home. A wave of irritation rose in his chest—she had broken her promise. Again. She said she wouldn’t come home late. Yet here they were.Dinner time rolled around. Still no sign of her.The dining room was painfully quiet. Harry ate alone, the clinking of silverware against his plate the only sound in the room.Jimmy, noticing the tension on his master's face, finally gathered the courage to approach.“Sir Harry, should I give Miss Arabella a call?” he asked cautiously.Harry didn’t answer. His grip on the spoon tightened, veins bulging visibly on the back of his hand.He wanted to call her. But his pride held him back. Even so, a growing unease gnawed at him. She hadn’t even sent a message. As the minutes ticked by, thunder rumbled in the distance. Rain was coming. With a frustrated sigh, Harry dropped the spoon and reached for his phone. He couldn’t take it anymore.[Bella, where are you?]His voice wa

The morning sky was painted in muted gray as Arabella stepped into the boutique where she worked. She let out a deep breath, bracing herself. It had been a week since she recovered from a serious illness, and today was her first day back on duty. The clothes racks were perfectly aligned, the air thick with the scent of luxury perfume and fresh fabric. The boutique was elegant, exclusive, and harbored tensions invisible to the customers.“Well, look who just rose from the grave,” came a shrill voice from behind the cashier counter.Arabella didn’t need to look. That had to be Mira—her ever-annoying coworker.“I heard you were sick. But honestly? Didn’t seem physical. More like... heartbreak?” another colleague chimed in with a fake, sugary smile.Arabella offered a faint smile, hanging her coat on the back hook before quietly straightening a rack. “Good morning to you too,” she replied calmly.Mira and the others exchanged glances before giggling under their breaths, as if Arabella was

The air in the living room hung heavy with tension, like fog that refused to lift after a storm. The remnants of the heated argument between Arabella and Celine still lingered in the silence. Celine sat gracefully, betraying no sign that she had just taken a fall. Her long legs were elegantly crossed, but her fingers fidgeted restlessly with the small ring on her hand.Across from her, Harry maneuvered his wheelchair until he faced her directly. He looked at her—expressionless, cold.“Celine. What’s your reason for coming here?”Harry didn’t waste time with pleasantries. He had told her before—never show up unless it was strictly business.“It’s been a year, Harry,” Celine replied softly, her voice tinged with pain. “You’ve changed so much. You don’t even worry about me anymore.”She winced slightly, as if still in pain from her earlier fall.“If you're hurt, let Dr. Tania take a look,” Harry said, his voice sharp and unbending.Celine forced a stiff smile. “Forget it. It’s nothing se

The night air carried with it the scent of damp earth and rain-soaked leaves. Upstairs, the room on the second floor seemed to absorb the gloom of the weather—its lights dimmed to a somber glow. The mingled smell of balm and rubbing alcohol hung gently in the air, a soft reminder of how fragile the human body could be.Arabella lay weak beneath the blanket. Her body shivered despite the layers wrapped tightly around her. Cold sweat traced down her temples, leaving wet trails across a face as pale as the sky before a storm. Her breaths came short and heavy, like her body was fighting to stay tethered to life.By the edge of the bed, Harry sat rigid and silent. He didn’t speak, only watched her face as if trying to memorize every line, every subtle twitch that might signal a change. In his hand, a damp towel—he gently dabbed her forehead with it, movements slow and cautious, like he was afraid he might hurt her.The door creaked open, and light from the hallway seeped into the room. Dr.

“Next time, don’t make me worry like that again,” Harry said, his voice unusually gentle, laced with a tenderness Arabella rarely heard from him.Arabella glanced at him, her gaze slightly hazy, but a faint smile tugged at her lips. Instead of replying to his concern, she dropped a comment that instantly made him stiffen.“Jealous, huh?”Harry let out a long breath. “I just... hate seeing him next to you. The same way you hated seeing Celine by my side—well, I can’t stand your ex being anywhere near you. Not after what he did to you.”“He’s the doctor treating me, Harry,” Arabella grumbled softly, blinking a few times. “How do you even know so much about my love life?”Thump.Harry froze like a schoolboy caught cheating.“You’re the one who told me, remember? That your fiancé cheated on you with your own sister?” Harry shot back, unwilling to lose ground. His pride was far too high to admit he'd been secretly having someone tail Arabella and report everything about her life.Arabella
