Regina's Pov
I almost lost confidence in myself with the way Peter and Lizzy glared at me with soured expressions. They were clearly mocking me and jealous I'd been called to do work they couldn't do. That's right, I'd loved to think that to myself. A short while later, I alerted everyone I was done and had found where the fault was from. "Alright Dawn, you should call for the attention of Mr. Nick--I mean, Mr. Walton." Or was it Nicholas? "No why should Dawn do that? Clearly I was part of the people who went to call the attention of Mr. Walton. I'm going to meet him and tell him the issue has been solved." Lizzy said with her shoulders up high. "But you weren't even part of us when Regina asked that we searched through the files from last month!" Dawn objected. "That's right," Mr. Isaac supported. "Regina, you go ahead and tell Mr. Walton we're done here as soon as we settle Frank." I nodded, ignoring Lizzy and Peter's protest. "You're right. Thanks guys," besides, Mr. Walton has called me from home to settle this issue! I was starting to hope he had meant his words when he called me to resume back to work. I located his office at last and knocked. I didn't wait to hear any response since this was kinda urgent, but as soon as I'd stepped in, his booming voice thundered. "Who told you to come in? Go back outside now!" My heart froze from shock that my legs took it as a struggle to move, even though I wanted to run back outside. "Um, I'm--sorry sir. But the job... The job has been done! Mr. Frank is satisfied and being attended to by the private agencies now." He still didn't look satisfied. Why were those eyes suddenly looking so...cold?? "Sit down." I was compelled to do exactly as he'd said. "Why do you want to quit? Or rather, why did you quit?" I hadn't been expecting his question. Somehow, I was displeased with the fact that I had such crush on him but he was already behaving like a dick. Just like Dan... Maybe once men knew they were handsome, they naturally became pricks!-- "Can you hear me? Rather, can you talk?" Through barred teeth, I was forced to respond. "I am very good at my job, so I don't think I deserve to be spoken to like this. Is this an interview? To get my job back?" I knew I was supposed to be patient, but I was running out of it. "You must be so happy being a celebrity around here." He said, then picked up an envelope and threw it to my side on the desk. "We're rejecting your resignation. Guess what, your tactic to get an increase in your salary is really working." I scoffed out a laughter. I was poor and needy now, but I didn't like his attitude. Sadly, I couldn't talk back because no matter how stubborn I wanted to be, he was still my boss. "Well, I don't like people like you. But at least I respect you. Fine, with this card you're playing, you're actually playing them all right. If you continue, you're on your way of getting the position of a financial officer." I got confused but as I was about to talk, he shut me up with a wave. "Go now. We'll get in touch with you." I did just as he'd said. But clearly, I hated the way he looked down on me for some reason. Still, maybe this was still a shot to get my job back. Behind me, I heard Nick receive a call like I hadn't even happened at all. "...another crises? I'll be right there..." As I walked out, I still couldn't get over my broken heart. I was suppose to become Mrs Ellison, and not Kimberly! Well I guess this was a shot for me to start my life over again and add value to myself. "Ha! What a loser. You must have been thinking you were so important they would call you back, isn't that right?" Peter stopped me from stepping into the elevator. Lizzy was with him as well. Lizzy took it as her turn to speak. "You know, I always hated how arrogant you acted. Now, you're really gone for real." "I was called from home to come take care of a mess that you morons created. But I guess you have no brains at all to actually realize what's going on here. You know, about how important I still am to the company compare to you two." I promised never to let these two annoying people get me down. "Well say whatever you want to say, but all I've got to say is this: good riddance!" Lizzy said before dragging Peter away by his ears as he cried out; "ouch! ouch!" . I heaved in a deep sigh realizing what a mess I'd gotten into. On my way out, Dan would not even let me wallow in peace. "Great, so now you can call?" I decided to ignore his call and kept walking. Only for me to be abducted by two hefty men, Bob and something that sounded like Pescos or so. Those two were Dan's favorite bodyguards who were a little bit too committed to him. This wasn't the first time Dan would send them to come fetch me. Damn it, stupid tracking device app! I quickly deleted the app so Dan wouldn't be able to track me again... Things you do when you're in love! He called again, this time I felt compelled to pick his call. He had to have made a mistake or something. Maybe he was calling to rectify that?? "You have two seconds remaining," "What are you doing at your workplace again? I thought we agreed you would quit." "Great. You just wasted those precious two seconds with this dumb ass question." I rolled my eyes and was about to hang up when I noticed the Mr Walton driving past us. My stomach hurled in pain again as it dawned on me that I was already jobless. Maybe Dan had something important to say? He had to. "Hey--are you even listening to me? Just come, let's talk okay?" I heard Dan said and I realized I had been lost in my thoughts. Okay then, I gave myself a confident head nod. "Fine Dan, let's hear what you have to say for your goodbye speech."Regina's POV It didn't take long for me to reach Dan's place. I heaved in a deep sigh, trying to hype myself up for this annoying meeting with Dan. I mean, now I was starting to regret it. What was I thinking! Then I heard noises... I would recognize that voice anywhere. It was none other than Lloyd, but who was she yelling at. And more importantly, why the hell was she over at Dan's this exact moment! Damn it, I wasn't ready for that woman's drama today. Still, I got down from the car to make my way over to the scenario. However, I was meeting the strangest person to see there, Mr Walton. "I paid you to do your job right, you and your damn company!" Lloyd's voice would not stop booming. "I understand that you are upset right now, but watch your tone. Ma'am." The Mr Walton said very calmly. The look on his face signified that he was not up for that argument but was probably just doing his job. "Hey don't talk to my mother like that!" Barked Dan. My presence was quickly no
Regina's POV"There's a problem, it's still not balanced!" Dawn's scream was deafening. I shifted back a bit from her loud wails. I needed to concentrate... This was fucking not my day. My whole body was shaking as fear crept through me, more like anxiety. Today was Dan's birthday and he was throwing a party that evening...basically in about two hour's time. I needed to get him the perfect present, then pick up the cake for his party and also manage to get dressed in less than two hours! And here I was, still at work sorting out the variance issue at hand. Everyone stared at me waiting for me to work some magic, even though clearly, I was just a simple finance assistant just like them."Oh my goodness, we're dead! We're gonna die!--" Slap! It was meant to be a small pat on her cheeks to keep her quiet but it ended up becoming a loud slap. I couldn't concentrate with her screaming and crying! "I'm so sorry, Dawn, but please stay with me here!. Are you with me?" I said to her calml
Regina's POV I smiled, turning to face him. When I tried to hug him, he stylishly moved back, pushing me away from him. "What, are you being serious? I could never miss your party." His expression was a stern one, deep brows furrowing. Dan was handsome, though lately I wondered what was with the new look. His dark brown hair styled neatly all the way back was his usual hairstyle but now his hair had turned to whitish blonde, and was cut shorter too. He was still handsome though, with his pale brown sexy eyes and charming dimples that crinkled whenever he smiled. "I feel like you've been avoiding me, Dan. What is it?" "Good evening everyone," in a sweet sonorous voice, a pretty lady in her mid fifties announced. Dan's mom was a lot of things, but she was never modest. Her outfit was extravagant and I wondered how she even walked in those huge heels and flared gown. Then the way she spoke, it was like she was God and we were mere peasants she created with her bare hands. "Please
Nicholas's POV The meeting had been time consuming and I was so happy once I'd got to kick everybody out. Miles was the only one left, and that was because he was my P. A and somewhat my best friend. "Alright then, I'll order what we'll have for dinner tonight." Mike said, and I didn't know if he was joking or being serious. I heaved in a deep sigh and closed the files before me to focus on him. "Mike, it's two in the afternoon, we just had lunch two hours ago, and you're already thinking about dinner?" "I shouldn't have mentioned. My bad." He turned and was about to leave, as if what I had just said didn't matter at all. Then he paused, maybe remembering something. "Sir, are you going to let her go just like that?" I groaned in disbelief. "Dude, I hate it when you call me sir." "Sorry, Mr. Walton--" "--oh for the love of God--" "--I'm talking about that smart finance assistant." Mike successfully ignored me and went on with his little talk. "She left in her resignatio
