CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE.Casey's POV "Abso-fucking-lutely not!" Danny growls, rushing forward, his scowl seemingly permanent now. He yanks me behind him, shielding me from Carlos, as if blocking me from his view could break the pull between us. I tried to peer around Danny's broad shoulders, but he shifted each time, deliberately blocking my line of sight. The tension thickened, the air heavy with testosterone and dominance. My head throbbed, the overwhelming male energy pressing in from all sides. For a moment, everything was quiet, too quiet. The eyes of the other werewolves burned into me, adding weight to the already awkward situation. How this could get worse, I had no clue. "Fine," Carlos gritted out finally, his voice low and dangerous. I managed to peek over Danny’s shoulder just in time to see Carlos turn and stride towards a small group gathered nearby. But my eyes stayed on him, drawn to his powerful frame, his commanding presence. Whether it was the mate bond or so
CHAPTER TWENTY-SIXCasey's POVI stood awkwardly on the side, shifting in my feet as I watched them gather, ready to shift. They were all naked, waiting for one command. Danny, however, has already shifted by my side, not caring to wait unlike the others. His magnificent grey wolf lay proudly beside me, one huge paw crossed over the other. His eyes laser-focused on Carlos. I swear if looks could kill, he'd probably get burnt off with Danny's deadly glare. And the fact that he stood naked in the open makes my heart thunder in my chest. "Shift!" His voice boomed in the air with pure dominance and authority. My gaze trailed down his muscles that flexed in every move. Before I could stop myself, I looked down... there.God, it was huge. I mean, I've seen stuff online before, but nothing like this. His was thick and long, fairly a much better upgrade than the ones I have already seen. And the way he smirked at me when he caught me checking him out, tells me he damn knew it. Right after
CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVENCasey’s POVThere were around the same number as us, maybe twenty-five, twenty-six? It doesn’t matter, though. There were a lot of them. They were growling and snapping their teeth at us, as if warning us not to go any further into their territory.I look back, petrified, wondering if we could even survive. The warriors moved to the front, the trackers positioned themselves at the back.Danny lowers himself to the ground, nudging me. I hop off, and go to hide behind the tallest bush I could find nearest to me.The rogues gathered quickly. One of them, a big brown, rugged wolf, stalked forward, and so did Carlos’. The two of them walk in slow deliberate circles, their eyes focused on each other as if they were having a silent conversation in their heads. The rogue’s eyes glistened, almost as if they knew each other.Growling lowly as they circled each other, the brown wolf suddenly stops. This made Carlos halt as well, but the next moment, one is already on top of
CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHTCasey’s POVThe next thing I knew, it was all over. I peel my eyes open. My back was still pressed under an old oak tree, as I tried to look around my surroundings.I nearly gasped. It was a bloodbath. The soil looked as if it bathed in blood with the heavy amount of blood splattered on the ground. Carnage and more dead bodies scattered everywhere. Bile rises in my throat, my hand moving up to cover my mouth in an attempt to stop it, but I couldn’t.Lurching forward, I vomit, throwing up everything I ate for dinner and breakfast. It made me dizzy, yet still hyperaware of my surroundings and the fact that I am now standing in a werewolf graveyard. My breath leaves my lungs in short, rapid gasps. I feel like hyperventilating, the world around me spinning until it blurs and eventually, turns a thousand shades darker.“Casey!”I hear a voice, probably Danny’s. I’m not sure and I am unable to check if it is, anyway.Suddenly, I see the world covered in red. Blood spill
CHAPTER TWENTY-NINECarlos’ POVMy control was waning.Little did she know, her scent has been driving me crazy since the minute I got here. Meeting her for some brief span of time in the cell, I had been glad there were bars separating us. Because if she looked like she did today, I would have lost it.I did not expect to find her inhaling my jacket I’d swung over her as she slept.“Is that what you really want?” I asked lowly. I know my wolf is now dangerously close to the surface. She nodded, licking her lips dry. That did it.I pressed her against the stone, my hand closing around her throat. And she moaned. The sound echoed in my ears, making me shudder pleasurably. All I wanted was to scare her a bit. Maybe that would do something about her head. But the sweet, innocent sound she just made was too tempting to resist.Without thinking, I buried my nose in her neck, inhaling her scent deeply. She smelled so good I suddenly had the urge to run my tongue across her neck. Her soft mo
CHAPTER THIRTYCasey’s POVA gasp tore out of my throat as I watch him, wide-eyed, storm through the crowd heading right towards me.“Now what does he want?” Danny growled low beside me. As Carlos was getting nearer, Danny moved to my front, blocking Carlos from my sight. Now facing my uncle’s back, I stood on my tiptoes, peered over his shoulder, and saw Carlos standing taut with a scowl etched on his face.“Move.” His lips moved slowly, eyeing only me.I honestly don’t know how I did it. It was the voice in my head. The voice that kept calling out to him, kept purring whenever he was nearby.“No can do. Whatever you have to say to her, you can say it through me,” Danny snarled. There was silence, for a moment.Carlos and I locked stares and fear bubbled in my stomach. I knew what he was about to say.So, I give him a shake of my head. A desperate plea, and I hoped he could read eyes because at this moment, it was my only saving grace.“Be sure to prepare. We’re about to take our lea
CHAPTER THIRTYCarlos’ POVAs soon as I was at least a hundred feet away from her, I released a deep breath.Facing the other trackers gathered in a circle, I moved my gaze up to the bright orange sky. The light touching everything in the clearing.Yes, it looked just like this. That day.The tethers of a memory tugged at the back of my mind, dragging me back to a point of time I didn’t want to remember. My parents took us, me and my little brother, to camp out by the stream. His name was Lucas. Young, that’s what we were. We were just pups, after all.Lucas and I laid comfortably on the grass. My mother was cooking barbecue on the grill while my father headed out to get us some firewood for the night. Our lives were simple. We lived a life on the run. But at least, we had something pack members could only dream of—freedom. And at least we’re together. That’s all that mattered.Lucas got up and suddenly poked me on the ribs, giggling.“Oh, yeah? How you like that?” I poked him on the
CHAPTER THIRTY-TWOCasey’s POVThe books I have read about werewolves and the wonderful ways the so-called mate bond worked slammed hard into the forefront of my mind. I recall Danny’s words, how I myself have the blood of a werewolf with my father’s genes mixed in my DNA, which meant I could probably harbor abilities any werewolf could have. But who am I kidding? I was still half-breed.“Hey there,” a soft, feminine voice ushered me out of my thoughts.I looked up to see a petite girl with white hair and silver eyes smiling down at me. Large boobs bounced in front of me as she shifted on her feet, hand on her hip. I think she’s one of the trackers.Yes, she is. I confirmed after taking in her attire. But why is she talking to me?My head turns from side to side, making sure I am the only one seated on the log.Seeing as there was no one other than me, I hesitantly lifted my gaze to her.“Me?” I asked. The girl’s smile widened, “Yes, you. I heard.” Then her smile faded, “You’re that t
