Evvie’s POV:
“Evvie, we need to talk.”
Gritting my teeth, I swallowed the lump immediately forming in my throat.
Even hearing his deep voice does things to me I can never appreciate at this state.
Does the moon goddess take pleasure in f*cking up our feelings even when things get f*cked up? I wondered as I looked into his eyes.
“What’s up?” I asked like my heart was not breaking into a million tiny pieces.
He pursed his lips. God I hate how I still felt attracted to him despite what he did.
I crossed my arms against my chest, vaguely aware of my cleavage exposed through the thin lace dress I was wearing. I had purposely picked out this outfit preparing for this day. Today, I was supposed to give my virginity to him. Mate or not. I have made my decision.
But he made his decision too.
“Evvie, I don’t want to make this harder than it already is.” He sighed.
I glared hard at him. I know what he’s doing.
“If you’re here to reject me, do it.” I said through clenched teeth.
He looked shocked to hear my words.
I raised a brow. “What? Did you expect me to beg for you to accept the bond? Did you expect me to kneel and cry my lungs out just so you could pity me and stay? I waited all this time for you, but it’s clear where your loyalty lies.” My eyes blurred with tears that already surfaced. My hands were shaking so I dropped them by my sides to steady.
“Evvie…” He reached out his hand to touch me. Gladly, I managed to dodge it by stepping back. His hands froze mid-air. Probably surprised I would avoid his touch. If it were in the past, I would have welcomed it with open arms. But not today. I never thought I’d feel sparks where he grazed my skin, yet at the same time my skin crawled.
“God, Evvie…” He breathed, running his fingers through his blonde hair. I felt my hand twitch as the overwhelming urge to run my own fingers through it swept over me.
“It was a mistake.”
I scoffed. “Sure it was.” I commented, not bothering to fight the urge to roll my eyes.
“We were drunk. She wasn’t even supposed to be there. I woke up to her the next morning. I don’t remember everything. Evvie, please. You have to believe me.” He explained.
“Oh, I believe you. You can’t remember. Like you can’t remember your girlfriend waiting for you back home while you were f**king her.” I spat.
The words that slipped from my mouth surprised me. I didn’t usually talk like this. As a matter of fact, I don’t talk like this at all.
I was the future gamma’s good little sister before becoming the future beta’s girlfriend. I went popular overnight. Even when occasionally girls whom Zach rejected harassed me, I didn’t feel the need to lash out like this.
I guess anger changes you in ways you never expected.
I looked dead into Zachary’s eyes.
“I never stopped thinking about you, Evvie.” He whispered, sounding pitiful I almost wanted to feel sympathy for him.
“I woke up every day, counting the days before I could finally see you again.”
I shrugged, “Well, now you see me. Happy?” I asked in a mocking tone and a fake smile plastered on my lips.
“Now leave.” I said, dropping my façade.
“Evvie…” I winced hearing him whisper my name huskily.
I lifted my chin, but my eyes only gazed at his lips.
My heart pounded when he did the same. Staring into my lips, he walked closer and closer towards me while I shifted in my feet, unmoving.
He reached for my hand.
“Don’t touch me!” I snapped, my eyes glowing. I realized moments later that anger had lured Ivana to the surface.
He froze, but only for a second.
“Evvie please, just let me…”
I growled when he ignored my warning and touched my hand. Sparks erupted instantly from the spot our skin touched and I gasped. It was a remarkable feeling.
A bond between mates.
His eyes widened, snapping up at me. Clearly bewildered at the same discovery I just had.
I watch as his blue orbs swirled into black, letting me know his wolf has awoken.
Ivana recognized him and pushed herself to the front. Duncan, she said his name was.
“He’s in pain.” She whimpered, letting pity overshadow her anger.
Panic coursed through me when I realize what little control I had had completely slipped just because of one, simple touch.
“Zach…” my heart pounded intensely.
Looking up into his eyes, I felt mine soften and the need to be close to him swept through me.
“What are you doing?” I croaked, fighting my tears desperately.
Softly, slowly, he trailed a finger up my arm, making me shiver. The pleasurable sparks were become more and more intense by the damn minute and I can’t think straight.
“I… I don’t know.” He swallowed and licked his lips.
His eyes searched my face, looking for something.
Permission.
He touched my chin, caressing his thumb over my lower lip. My gaze lowered and fixed on his lips. His scent, strong and intoxicating, did little to suppress my need to touch him.
With my wolf taking over, the animalistic urge to be closer to her mate broke down what paper-thin walls I managed to build in just a short period of time.
She nudged us forward, landing a soft, sweet kiss on Zach’s lips. Shocked, he stood frozen in spot but it didn’t take him long to respond.
He returned the kiss, deepening it as he shoved me back against the near wall.
He pawed at my breasts, nipped at my lips while kissing me harder. Deeper.
I moaned. Everywhere he touched me was pure ecstasy. Electrocuting sparks swam pleasurably through my body that I suddenly lost the strength to resist.
Evvie’s POV:“f*ck.” He sighed into my lips. His strong hands trailed down my thighs and lifted me. I wrapped my legs around him, my arms snaking around his neck as I banished all reason to the fact that I was doing nothing wrong. He is my mate, after all.His tongue invaded my mouth and I welcomed it, thrusting my own and tasting the inside of his mouth. I moaned as he sucked on my tongue and I pulled him closer. It felt just right. But like all good things in my life, this one moment I get to share with my mate has to end briefly.“She’s pregnant, Evvie…” He sighed. “I can’t…”He gently placed my feet down, but I was numb all over. Zach hung his head and I pressed my lips into a line, taking in deep breaths as my wolf handed me back the reins out of sheer disappointment. I felt my cheeks flush in embarrassment. If only I knew, I would have given him myself sooner. Then this never would have happened. He would still be my mate. And I would still be his.My heart ached until I couldn
Evvie’s POV:“B-But it’s too soon!” I stumbled stupidly.Mom sighed, walking over and sitting on the bed. The mattress dipping as she did.“I know, baby. But it’s Alpha’s orders.” She stated, looking at me.Can’t she see I’m hurting? My boyfriend. No. My ex- boyfriend and the only love of my life literally just came home with a female in his arms. Not just any female. One that he impregnated. It hasn’t even been 24 hours since my whole world came crashing down around me in a pile of rocks.“Mom, I can’t go.” I flopped back down the mattress, yanking my comfy wool blanket over my head and curling up into a ball. I let its warmth soothe me but I knew there was no escaping my mother’s so-called advices.Mom sighed heavily, making me fist the blanket.“Evvie, I warned you long ago about this, remember?”And here it comes. The judging.I rolled my eyes and stifled a long groan.“Dating someone who is not your mate simply has its consequences.” She started. She rambled on and on about how f
Evvie’s POV:I opened my eyes abruptly when a sudden wave of anger swept over me.“Gabriel.” I growled, surprised by the strength of my voice.Gabriel, Zachary, Ethan, and I were high school best friends. We were inseparable, and I have been in the group since I was introduced to junior year as Ethan’s little sister. They protected me from bullies who felt that I do not deserve their princess treatment. We always had each other’s back. But my face darkened at the thought of Gabriel.I finished showering and went back to my room. I pulled out my phone from the back pocket of my old jeans and went straight to Messages.I started texting Gab.You:What the f*ck is this Gab?Gab:Look, it’s done. It’s pack rules and you know it, Evvie. You:We’ve been friends since high school, Gab. How could you?Fighting back the tears, I held the phone with my other hand to stop it from trembling, and pressed send.I could see him typing. There was a long pause before he started typing again. I glared
Evvie’s POV:I nodded and ordered a large iced matcha latte. Curious with the taste. I thought since I used to order their signature coffee when I was still with Zach, I should try something new. After paying, I headed straight to the corner. Unfortunately, the only vacant table was located at the corner by the glass window. Right where I could see Zachary openly feed his pregnant fiancé. I gulped but headed there anyway. I decided to just ignore them and try not to look their way. It had two seats. No matter which one I take, I’d have a perfect view of the sickly sweet couple across me.Stifling a groan, I forced my ass down and focused on my new latte. I took a sip and felt my eyes roll to the back of my head. It tasted so good.Maybe my day wouldn’t be so bad after all, I thought, trying to gaslight myself.Thirty minutes later, a petite woman with defined curves and strawberry blonde hair plopped down on the seat across me.It was Pixie.“Hi, again.” Her smile reached her big, car
Zachary’s POV:“What do you think of this?” Brenda asked me, batting her eyelashes. She wore a white long gown that made her look like a princess for the ceremony tonight. I tugged my lips and forced a smile.“You look beautiful.”“Just not as beautiful as mate.” Duncan howled. I made no attempt to retort against him knowing full well it was true.Evvie is the most beautiful and attractive woman I ever met, even before realizing she was my mate. Her beauty is comparable to a goddess’. With her long, silky black hair and stunning silver eyes, I can’t deny Evvie is indeed rare.On the other hand, Brenda is a red head with brown eyes. Her skin tanned to perfection and with a slightly shorter height than my mate. She is so small, and I can’t believe she’s carrying my pup.It was a mistake. I was stupid. One night, and it ruined everything I had with Evvie. Evvie was my world. The woman I was prepared to marry. Mate or not. She’s my soulmate, and I never would have chosen anyone else over
Evvie’s POV:“Oh no. No, no, no!” I shook my head at the sexy black evening gown the sales lady was holding up to me.“What’s wrong with it?” Pixie hurried over, as if to see what commotion I was starting in the establishment.“Uhm, nothing?” I turned to her. There isn’t a single problem with the dress, really. The problem is me.“I’m not wearing that.” I said with finality, pointing at the devil.“It’s the latest design. I think it will suit you.” The sales lady commented, and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. Well isn’t that telling something? Anything suits me as long as it pays them.“Evvie, I know this isn’t your usual style, but I promise, it’s not too bad to try something new.” Pixie encouraged me.I glared down at the dress and sighed.“I’ll try it, but that doesn’t mean I’m wearing it to the ball.” I huffed, turning around and heading off to the dressing room. The sales lady and my little friend Pixie both squealed in delight, and I shook my head but chuckled lightly.I gu
Evvie’s POV’There he stood, my mate. No, ever since he rejected me, he threw that title away. When he chose to lay with that woman who is now clinging to his arm like a damn leech, he threw that possibility away, too.Zachary stood at the center of the grand hall. He looked as handsome as ever in his white tailored suit. The woman in his arms glared at me and I could not resist the smirk that curled on my lips.My heart thundered in my chest but I knew there is no turning back. Our eyes locked, and I already knew by the tight-lipped frown on his lips, that he did not like what I was wearing. At least not in front of everybody.I smiled, taunting him and it seemed to catch him by surprise. His eyes roamed my body head to toe and I did not miss the moment when his eyes flickered black. I quickly averted my gaze, not liking where this is going. It is painfully clear that I am still attracted to him, and my wolf isn’t helping either, flashing me all the dirty things he could possibly do
Evvie’s POV:“Are you alone?” He rasped. I was taken aback by his pure black eyes, gazing deeply into mine.My jaw almost dropped. Shocked at how deep and husky his voice came out.“And so f*cking sexy.” My wolf purred. If it was possible to reach inwardly and slap my wolf out cold, I would. But I have to admit. She was right.Without saying a word, I gave him a nod.A small, sexy smile tugged at his lips and he adjusted his tie.“Good.”I wasn’t sure what he meant, but my wolf was definitely enjoying the sight of this Greek God who towered over me like a damn wall.Strangely, there’s something about him that intrigued me. I just couldn’t point out what. Especially the way he made me feel under his burning gaze.“Would you like to dance?” The words fell from his lips smoothly. Any girl would probably swoon at his feet if he asked her like this. He held out his hand gracefully, for a man who stood a whopping six feet five.My heart thumped like a stampede in my chest. I was not sure wha
E P I L O G U E .Casey's POVI fell for it. It's his fault, with those sparkling puppy eyes and cute little stance, I have turned completely vulnerable. But I didn't fall for it because I badly wanted him to apologize but because he looked serious. Like he really wanted to show me something. The reason why he went missing for hours. I tapped my heel, raising an eyebrow at his human state. I look around. There was no one here. Why are we here?“Well? What is it?” I asked, looking at him.He smiled, making me groan. Him and his damn smile makes me both feeling nauseous and weak in the knees.“I want you to meet someone,” he finally said.I furrowed my eyebrows. Meet someone? He pulled my hand, turning me around to face a…“A pile of rocks?” My eyebrow raised higher, staring at him weirdly. He chuckled and shook his head.“This is my dad’s grave. I buried him here.”Shocked, I turn to him with eyes as wide as bowling balls.“You… your dad? Oh Carlos, I’m so sorry.” For the second tim
Casey's POVKnock. Knock.I looked towards the door, my lips pressing into a thin line."Come in!" The door pushed open.As always, Evvie and Pixie walked inside the room. Their eyes widened, bigger than bowling balls, and their jaws dropped, gaping at me.I raised an eyebrow. "What? Is it bad?" I asked, casting a worried look to my dress as I smoothed it down."Are you kidding?" Pixie was the first to speak, as Evvie was still in a trance."You look amazing!" She beamed.I smiled."Absolutely gorgeous." Evvie nodded in agreement, snapping out of her trance.A wide grin spread on my face. "Thank you," I sighed, turning back to the mirror. "Is something wrong?" Pixie steps forward, a worried look on her face. For the nth time, I let out a sigh. "What if...this was a mistake? What if I'm not ready for this? What i--" "You stop that right now, my lady." Pixie marched forward, taking my wrists and gripping them firmly. "You are not going to your wedding with all those ridiculous though
Casey's POVThe Alpha led the way, and I followed closely behind him. Right now, we're back at the dungeons. The cells. How the hell did he get himself locked up back in here? He agreed to do the mission in exchange for freedom. I sighed."Just so you know, I didn't want to do this." The Alpha muttered.I nodded, but didn't speak."I had no choice. He was getting out of control." "But to put him back in that cell?" I snapped. I couldn't close my damn mouth to save my life. The Alpha stopped in his tracks, twirling on his heel to face me. The look in his eyes now is deadly."Listen, girl. This is also out of my control. I can't control him.""Why?"His eyes narrowed at me."You're the alpha." I added. He squinted at me before he sighed. He shook his head. "Not everything is as simple as you think." I tilted my head. I wondered what he meant by that when a guard rushed over to us."Alpha, he's losing it!" The man was panting, his eyes wide."Sedate him." I snapped my eyes to the Al
CHAPTER FORTY-NINECasey's POV"Hey, hey, sshhhh..." I could hear someone shushing me. I try to move. Try to get up. But my body was killing me. "Argh..." I groan, peeling my eyes open. It was Nita, staring at me right in the face.I knit my brows. "What are you doing here? I mean, what am I doing here?""It's okay. You're safe now." What is she talking about? I winced when a searing pain swept right through me as I tried to move. My mind was in a haze. Blinking, I take in my surroundings. I'm in a white room. Everything was white and the air smelt strongy of disinfectant, alcohol, and... blood? Then it snapped. The witch. Sorcerer or whatever. Lucas. Rogues. The kids. My breath hitched in my throat.Carlos. Oh, my god."Carlos!" I vaguely remember seeing his wolf breathing hard on the ground. Blood oozing off his stomach. I remember him taking the hit, when Lucas tried to pierce me with his magical glowing weapon. And then I remember... a whimper. His wolf, whimpering as he laye
CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHTBrother...I didn't hear it wrong, did I? Yet, when his gaze flicked to me I saw the striking resemblance between them. There is no mistaking it.He's the little brother Carlos told me about. But I thought he said he died. Clearly, that was not the case at all. He's here, alive. And it's either he happens to be here or he is one of the rogues. And by the looks of it, he is one of them.Carlos stared at him all the time, and his hands were shaking. I could hear his heartbeat racing. The way he swallowed when he saw him for the first time. Some of the trackers behind me growled, but Carlos held up his hand in warning. Not to take action. That he had this under control.'Get the children to safety. I will deal with this.' He sent the message through the group link. All of us just froze.'Now!' The warning in his voice has become a real threat. It had everyone jolting up to go to move the children to safety. I, however, stayed in my spot unmoving.Something's not righ
CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN Carlos’ POV Is it him? Is it really him? I can’t believe it. Even Vato became dead silent. Is it really our little brother? But that’s impossible. He died, years ago. I saw it happen with my own eyes. I stare gobsmacked at the man. His eyes were coral blue, something he’d gotten from our mother. His hair, jet black slicked back just like mine. He even has that same birthmark I remember him having as a child. I tried moving my lips, but they’re frozen as ice. “Lucas?” He smiled at Casey, but something about his expression felt different. Then he whips his gaze to me. Suddenly, he drops it. His eyes darkened, and I felt my blood run cold. TWENTY YEARS AGO… Blood. The air around me is filled with blood. Most belonging to my Dad, who had dropped dead on the ground before me. “Hmm,” I hear a rumbling sound. As I turn my head slowly, I realize I needed to look up to clash eyes with the figure I saw kill my Dad. My eyes raised, and my breath hit
CHAPTER FORTY-SIX Casey’s POVA strong roar ripped from my chest. It was Kaleesa. Pure rage surged through my veins, consuming every rational thought I had. The world blurred, the trees, the warehouse, everything fading as my vision tunneled in on the rogue.I launched forward, claws out, fangs bared. I could hear Carlos yelling my name behind me, but it was drowned out by the blood pounding in my ears. His warning had come too late. Rage had taken over, and I had no plans to stop.I barely felt the ground beneath me as I sprinted toward the rogue who’d kicked the child. He never even saw me coming. My claws tore through his back before he could react, a satisfying crunch of bone under my hands. He crumpled to the floor, and the child scrambled away, eyes wide with terror. The scent of blood filled my nostrils, but it wasn’t enough. I wanted more.Another rogue lunged at me from the side. I spun, grabbing him mid-air, slamming him into the ground with enough force to crack the concre
CHAPTER FORTY-FIVECasey’s POVLast night was horrific. I didn’t sleep at all. I don’t know what has gotten into me last night, but I now know I have gone too far. When Carlos stepped back, shoving me away in the process, shame washed over me like a bucket of ice cold water. He looked at me as if I had grown two heads, all because I tried to kiss him, which I now know was a mistake. I thought he wanted to. It turns out I thought wrong.I went too far, and he was not having it. He didn’t want me. He made that crystal clear from the very beginning, but still, I insisted. I have never felt so embarrassed in my entire life. It’s the third time he rejected me. The third time. How could I have been so stupid?I should have accepted his rejection, if I only knew it would be this painful the third time.Tears rolled down my cheeks as I turned around and ran off. I could hear him calling after me, but I never looked back.Danny tried to get it out of me a thousand times this morning. Each time
CHAPTER FORTY-FOURCasey’s POV“What?” the question falls out of my lips before I could even stop it.Carlos’ eyes remain trained on me, neither of us willing to look away.He lets out a soft chuckle that makes my heart melt. “To be honest, I really don’t know either,”He leans back, shifting all his weight onto his hands as he plants them on the cold ground. Then he turns his head and looks at me in the eye with those damned, beautiful violet eyes. “There’s something about you, something I didn’t want to acknowledge.”My brow raised at him, “And what is that?”He smiled. That goddamn dazzling, devious smile that has me gawking at him in awe.“Sorry, but it’s my little secret, since, I gave you my only one,” he said, and winked at me.Heat immediately rushed to my face, and I feel my chest flush, making me want to cover myself tighter if only I didn’t feel so hot.“But hey, looks like I’m not the only one,” he said, his tone turning serious.I looked up at him and narrowed my eyes.Wh
