Amos’ POV “I love you,” I mouthed to Avery and watched the train ride away. I had watched her for the past one day, I knew she was smart enough to survive on her own. It was part of our plan for her to leave but it wasn't time yet, I had not been prepared at all. “I am sorry Sweetness, this is all I can give you,” I whispered as I turned around and tried to compose myself, I needed that composure for what I was about to do. Honestly, everything was going according to plan, actually better than what we had planned, we told Avery about everything else but this part, I had noticed that Jack liked her a while ago and I knew he was surely going to make a move and we wanted to use that as a bait for him but we didn't expect him to act so quickly, he was so impatient and after I had the most beautiful time with Avery and supposedly left, he wanted to have his own share, it was Maya who had discovered it in time and knocked him out quickly. “It's all for the best,” Maya said to me as we
Avery's POV “Here is your luggage Ma’am,” a young lady said to me, she had seen me crying and came to comfort me, I had actually slept on her lap all through the journey and only woke up when the announcement went off for us to come down, she had helped me with my luggage now and she seemed very reluctant to leave me alone."Thank you very much," I said, having no other words to express my gratitude with, she was really an angel. “Are you new here?” She asked, looking at me with innocent eyes, she would be two years younger than me at most and she was so beautiful. “Yes, I am and I'm wondering if you can show me a motel or something where I could stay for the night,” I said shyly, I knew I didn't want to start this time by sleeping on the street, and with the money I had I could afford it at least. “No need for all that, you can stay at my place,” she said excitedly, that was an immediate no for me, there was no way I was going to let her give me any handouts, I just got here and
Avery's POV “Ella, Ella where are you?” I suddenly became scared, I began to walk around and try to find her, and then I heard a voice coming from the other room. “Yes, very fine, she is okay, I will try to make her feel better, okay, thank you, Sir,” I heard Ella say into the phone, she seemed to have wanted this call to be private and I was sure I was the person they talked about on the phone but I decided to act like I didn't hear a thing. “Ella, I was looking all over for you!” I said walking into the room, she had ended the call at this point. “I called my uncle to inform him about you and he approves,” she said with a smile, I breathed a sigh of relief, I was worried for nothing, the whole thing seemed strange to me and I was always on my toes. “It is going to take some time for me to get used to this,” I said to myself as I hugged her, she looked shocked at first but she hugged me back almost immediately. Just then my stomach began to rumble and we both laughed and went b
Avery's POV “When will the head chef resume work?” I whispered to one of the other chefs, she came to sit beside me after finishing her workload and we chatted for a while. It had been two hours and I was still waiting to see the head chef, the kitchen was going on without incident, everybody was doing what they needed to do but the head chef was nowhere to be found. “He has already resumed work, you will see him soon,” she whispered and began to blush. I didn't know why but I guessed the head chef was young and handsome but that didn't matter to me, I just needed to get a job today. “It's been two hours,” I whispered in response. Did he really keep people waiting for this long? “Is he usually this late?” I asked adding to my earlier statement, he was the head chef because he needed to coordinate the kitchen, if he wasn't around to do that then what was the need for his job? “Not unless I have a VVIP requesting special attention,” someone said behind me, I was startled and turned
Avery's POV “I am finished,” I whispered to myself as I looked at the material I had to work with, how could I create anything talk less of something creative with these materials. “What am I going to do?” I asked myself thinking about the whole situation for a minute, I couldn't lose my chance to secure this job so there must surely be a way to fix this problem. “It can't be this hopeless,” I told myself, determined to find a solution to this problem. I wouldn't have been given a test like this if there was no way out, so I had to figure out that solution and get the job. The first thing I had to do was to figure out the materials I had, on the outside, it looked like all I had was a pack of noodles and a cup of water but that couldn't be all that was there, this was a kitchen after all, I was sure there were leftovers of something, I just needed to find them and figure out a way to use them for my meal. “A fridge!” I said out loud, every kitchen had a fridge, I was sure I could
Avery's POV “What rubbish did she put together, is it even going to be edible? Looks pretty but will it taste decent at least?” The whispers continued, all the chefs were critiquing my work, I hadn't even served it for tasting but everyone had an opinion about it, some liked it, some didn't, it scented really nice and looked nice too but the taste was what would determine if I got the job or not. “Quiet everyone, we will all take turns tasting the food Avery has made and come to a conclusion after that,” Jake said, as the head chef, I thought he was the one who tasted the food to determine if I was employed or not but letting everyone taste it was a different ball game all together and for some reason it made me even more nervous. So the meal was set on the table and I was made to stand close to it in an exhibition manner and then all the chefs formed a circle around it, taking turns to taste the food as the circle went round until the last person did, I looked at the faces of t
Avery's POV “So when can I start work?” I asked Jake, after the whole emotional moment, we all had a feast and after that we were all relaxing, so because the kitchen was so efficient and everybody did their work on time they end up having a lot of free hours after they have concluded their tasks. “You have already started work,” Jake replied. I didn't understand what he meant, how was this any work we were just eating and relaxing. “The director is out right now, when she returns you will need to meet her to negotiate your pay and all but apart from that you are good,” Jake explained, one would have expected the first day at work to be very hard and intense but that wasn't the case here, of course, the cooking test was hard and nerve-racking but after it was over I literally had nothing else to do. “Okay, so could you at least show me around the kitchen?” I asked, I just wanted to acclimate myself to the kitchen so I could do better. “I can do that chef,” one of the other c
Avery's POV “It's ready but we still haven't decided on what toppings to use,” one of the chefs said, now from what I discovered from my little time in the Kitchen, one of the requirements to be a chef and work in the kitchen was to also be a baker, you weren't required to do it all the time especially if you didn't come to bake but it was for times like this I suppose. “What can we use?” I asked in a panic, our time was running out and we needed to deliver on time. “Let's use honey,” Jake said and bought some fresh honey drizzling it on the cinnamon biscuits, and giving it to the server. We were all holding our breaths and praying they liked it. “So this is what it means to be a chef?” I asked myself as I thought about the whole situation, the task of fitting people's state buds was one of the most difficult tasks ever. “What are you thinking about?” A chef named Margaret asked me, she seemed to be very quiet but she knew her onions. “What type of person would I need to b
Avery's POV “Oh my goodness!” I whispered in shock, using my hands to cover my mouth, who would have thought that my blood could open this diary? I would have never guessed it. The diary opened to reveal a beautiful handwriting, it almost looked like mine, just a little more calligraphic. I immediately forget the pain in my finger and just stared at the book in wonder. “Miss! You are hurt!” Martha screamed in panic, as she literally ran down to where I was, I quickly put the diary to the side, not wanting her to see it at all. “I know you want to be alone Miss, but please just let me disinfect your wound first,” she whispered with concern, as she took a first-aid box and hurried to treat my wound. I was utterly speechless, especially because of the way I had treated her before. She seemed not to care about that and it made me feel a little more guilty. I felt like one of those spoiled brats who treated the help in a very bad way. “I am sorry about how I treated you before, it's
Avery's POV “Your breakfast is ready, Miss,” one of the maids said softly, bowing as she spoke. I wanted to tell her that all of this was not so necessary but I knew she would not listen to me anyway so I let it go. “Thank you,” I responded dryly. I wasn't hungry, but I knew better than to refuse the food they offered. Lady Smith would be extremely worried if I missed breakfast, so I asked everyone to leave and sat by myself. “I am at the door if you need anything, miss,” Martha whispered anxiously, she seemed unsettled with leaving me by myself but I needed that alone time. Walking over to my table where the brown envelope was kept, I picked it up and opened the seal. I didn't bring out the files in it, instead, I walked over to the table where a very nutritious breakfast was waiting for me. Opening that file felt like a window into another world and opening it genuinely scared me. “This is really nice, " I muttered to myself happily, as I munched on the scrambled eggs that were
Amos’ POV “I watched her walk away, I watched her leave me,” I mumbled as I ran my hand through my hair. I could never forget that day, it was crystallized in my mind. I remembered standing just behind her and watching her walk towards the train, I wanted to stop her, to hold her and tell her I believed her but I held myself back, she entered the train and it left, that train left with a big part of me, I could feel my heart shatter into a million pieces but this was meant to be, it was the only way she could be free. “I just couldn't let her suffer,” I thought as I remembered everything I had put in place, I had not missed a single detail, not left anything undone when it came to her. I had my niece visit me briefly as she passed through our city the night before Avery left, I had begged her, promising her anything she wanted to be in that train and take care of Avery, I knew she would have been lonely and needed someone in the new city so I made sure she had Ella with her, made s
Avery's POV “I just couldn't help it…I couldn't stay away from you,” he whispered, it was the sound of Amos’ voice, I couldn't believe it but the way my body reacted to him confirmed any suspicions I had. “Amos?” I asked, it was a whisper and I was sure I was speaking to myself but I didn't get a response just the feel of his fur on my skin. “I miss you so much,” he whispered as he ran his hand through my hair. “This is a dream so why not enjoy it to the fullest,” I thought to myself, I had missed Amos for the longest time and even if I hated him for what he did to me it still didn't change the fact that he was my mate and we bonded on a very deep level, even if a ceremony had never been done. “I miss you too,” I whispered, letting myself go and hugging him back, opening my eyes, I saw him in his werewolf form. I just laid my head on his shoulder and inhaled his scent. It made my wolf pur…I wanted him in more ways than one. “It's been so long…please,” he begged, reaching for my
Avery's POV “As per our agreement, here is some of the evidence I found, study it and let me know when you are done, there is more where that came from,” Sir Smith said, handing me a big brown envelope and turning to walk away. “I know this might be very transactional to you but just know that I really recognize you as my daughter,” he said, turning slightly in my direction, as our eyes met, I could tell he was being completely honest. “I will bear that in mind, thank you very much,” I responded not knowing what else to say, he just nodded and walked away, I felt touched by their display of love especially since they just met me and knew absolutely nothing about me, although you could say they knew more about me than I knew about myself, giving the big envelope in front of me. I took a deep breath feeling suddenly nervous about the whole thing. I had thought I wanted to know the truth but now that the truth was standing in front of me, I was too scared to take a hold of it. I deci
Avery's POV “Where are you taking me?” I asked the driver as my entire consciousness was alerted, if need be I was going to tear this door open and run away. “I am taking you to the Smith's Mansion,” the man responded. It didn't look like it to me, everything was so suspicious. I tried to open the door to no avail, I had begun to panic, I checked my pocket for my phone, hoping that I would be able to reach Ella and find out the truth. Was the road to their house this strange or was I over thinking things? I needed to find out, but to my utter surprise, my phone was nowhere to be found, I had begun to panic for real and brought out my claws to break open the door and just then the driver spoke again. “We are here now Ma’am,” he said, parking the car in the driveway, I stopped suddenly, looking around me, it took me some time to recollect myself. “Please come down Ma'am, Sir and Lady Smith are anxious to meet you,” the driver said, coming out of the car, walking to the side of my d
Avery's POV “Good Afternoon Sir and Ma'am,” I greeted immediately I entered through their door, I was trying to be as cautious as I could be, afraid of ruining my plans before I actualized them, their suite had a beautifully designed dining area that was somehow detached from the rest of the suite, it was in such a way that we had access to only that area and not the rest of the suite and we could only see them only if they decided to come to the dining area. My greeting fell on deaf ears because they weren't yet in the dining area, so that meant we had to wait. This was making me nervous, I thought about doing this, and getting it over with but dragging it out like this made me more and more anxious. “Good Afternoon child,” I heard a response after a while, it was the woman, coming towards the dining area with a smile, it looked so beautiful, so pure that if I didn't know better I would have thought it was a true smile but now I knew it was just a cover-up, it was a good cloak for
Avery's POV “Yesssssss, please tell me,” Ella said excitedly, she had totally forgotten about her food and was concentrating fully on me and what I had to say, I didn't say anything more I just smiled and continued to eat. “Oh come on!” She whined as she grabbed my hand trying to distract me from eating and to tell her why I was in such a different but happy mood. “You will find out later today at work,” I said to her motioning to her food and encouraging her to eat the food she had abandoned, she grumbled but continued to eat with a frown on her face. Jake on the other hand didn't say anything, he just stared at me for a long time and nodded like he gained some kind of understanding. He chuckled at her childish behavior, I was so jealous of how he adored her, if only someone would cherish me the way he cherished her, I didn't dwell too much on that, I already knew what my fate was. “I am leaving now, don't be late for work,” I said to Ella, winking at her, I nodded to Jake befor
Avery's POV “I know you are scared, I also know that you came here with an intention in mind but, this is life, things change, situations change, it doesn't hurt to try, right?” Ella whispered, squeezing my hands, I looked at her with a sad smile, I knew that my intentions would never change. “I wish I can change my path but I can't,” I said letting go of her hand and walking away with tears rolling down my face, I wished it was possible to be her daughter especially since I hadn't been a daughter to anyone, especially since I had never felt the love of parents but it came too late. It all happened when things had already gone bad when I had crossed the bridge of no return. I kept walking, I didn't know where I was walking to but I kept walking, it seemed I could never escape pain no matter how hard I tried, no matter how happy things had become, no matter how good things were something had to hurt, almost as if I was destined for pain and pain only, I didn't want to live like this
