Avery’s POV
It had been a very good week for me, working as Angie's private tutor was easier than I initially expected, and Angie had been so nice to me.
“Maybe it isn't yet time to show her true colors,” I thought, if Aunty Vivian had taught me anything it was that I couldn't trust anybody.
When my parents passed and she came to my father's house as a guardian, she was so nice, almost perfect, she fed me, clothed me and treated me like a princess for more than one year, I was so happy and allowed her into my parent's room giving her access to all my parent's files and deeds, after she seized everything my parents left for me, she turned into this monster that I had to face every day.
“At least for now,” I said out loud on my way to her house.
She had continued to give me big tips every single day and I had been able to save a lot of money while also giving my aunty a good amount of money. I made sure to always change it into smaller bills so that it looked like a lot of money.
“I don't care what you do as long as you keep this money coming,” my aunty told me, she has continued to drink away every single dim I had given to her.
“Here we go,” I said entering into my regular workstation.
Getting to Angie's house or should I say mansion, the day went on like any other day, I taught and she learned quickly, with the reading techniques I taught her, she had been able to cover a lot of topics making my already easy work easier.
Our classes finished earlier than the time allocated and we always talked about random things till it was time to leave. I tried not to tell her my personal issues during this time.
“It's time for me to get going,” I told Angie as I packed my bag to leave, we had been talking for a while now and I was getting hungry, I needed to go home and eat something.
“Okay but can you come tomorrow?” She asked with pleading eyes.
But it was a Saturday and I didn't need to come to work, why would she need me here?
“Why, is there a topic you want us to cover?” I wanted to know the reason she requested my presence.
“No, no but it's my anniversary with my boyfriend, I wanted you to be here for the celebration,” she said with a smile expecting a positive response.
“Oh I'm sorry, I won't be able to make it,” I said as I shook my head and carried my bag.
I didn't want to come to that celebration any other for that matter, they were very rich people and I didn't want to be embarrassed, but apart from that, I didn't want to get too close to her, she was my boss and I wanted to keep it that way.
“Oh come on, please…” she begged, really wanting me to be here.
“I can't, it's a family occasion, besides I have nothing to wear” I protested, thinking of a very good excuse.
“I thought you'd say that,” she said with a smile, bringing out a bag and handing it to me.
I looked through the bag, it was a dress with shoes and jewelry.
“I can't accept this but I will come, only for an hour,” I said finally succumbing to her pressure.
Angie was already doing a lot for me, I didn't want to owe her too much.
“Yesssss, thank you, thank you, thank you,” she said in excitement.
“But why would she want me there,” I thought as I went home, she had already paid me for the day.
Why did she go to the point of getting me clothes? What did she want from me? These questions bugged my mind but I decided to think nothing of it and go back for the party or whatever when my aunty went out on Saturday.
She always went out for the whole day on Saturday.
“Better make that change before you forget,” I admonished myself as I proceeded to make the one thousand dollars into a bunch of 20-dollar notes. I divided them in two, I would give her half tonight and the other half tomorrow morning so she can get on with her drinking.
“What a waste of money,” I sighed at the thought that all my hard work was spent in a bar.
I met Aunty Vivian on her way out, she didn't even wait to beat me up, she just took the money and hurried away.
“That's strange,” I thought but remembered that it was something that she did when she desperately needed a drink.
She was never always like this, I just didn't know why she changed, she always looked at me with guilt and pity during times like this, it was almost like she wanted to tell me something but then she would rush to the bar and go back to being drunk Aunty Vivian.
I took a deep breath, sighing as I ate and went to bed.
The next morning, Aunty Vivian was crying for hours, she locked herself in the room so I couldn't get to her.
“I can't do this anymore,” I said as I dropped the money and a note saying that I was going to work.
I know I lied but I couldn't bear to hear her crying from the other room, I was thankful I had a place to go.
At the party I struggled so hard to fit in, I regretted not taking the clothes Angie offered me because I was mistaken for the help so many times, all in all, it was lively, better than sitting at home.
Then came the bully, I didn't know who he was but he looked like Angie.
“Hey beautiful, wanna come over to my room later?” He asked loudly with a devilish grin.
“No thank you,” I replied, not wanting any trouble.
But he didn't stop, he kept teasing me and saying inappropriate things. Just when I thought I was going to lose my mind, I heard a voice thunder from behind me.
“Quit playing around Quinn,” the voice said, I knew that voice, it was very family.
“Yes Father,” the bully replied and scurried away.
So that was Angie's brother, big brother I supposed because he looked a lot older than her.
I turned to thank Mr. Amos, why was he always coming from behind me, I wondered.
“Thank…” but before I spoke he stopped me.
“No need for that human, just stay out of my way,” he said harshly, not even looking at me.
As I was about to protest, Angie came running to her father, her eyes filled with tears.
“Daddy, my caterer bailed out at the last minute,” she cried, devastated and confused.
Avery's Point Of View “Avery!” The screams got louder and closer. I turned towards the young beautiful witch behind me and the man on the floor and then back at the crowd that seemed to approach me. Rubbing my eyes again, I struggled to believe what was before me. “How did they get in?” The witch shouted in frustration, her eyes widening with panic. “How did they find us?” She asked angrily, stomping her feet on the floor. No response came and I wondered who she was speaking to. I had heard whispers but hadn't seen any real creatures. “It’s over Natalie, just accept defeat,” a familiar voice said firmly. Raising my face in doubt I was shocked to see the wolf before me. It was Amos, I knew those eyes anywhere. But the aura around him was so strong, something I had never experienced. “Never, it can never be over!” She responded angrily, snapping her fingers and disappearing immediately. “She escaped!” Another familiar voice screamed in panic. But Amos just shook his head,
Avery's Point Of View “You know, we can all hear your thoughts right?” She said quietly, looking straight into my eyes. I paused for a minute, everything stopping around me. My heart was beating faster by the minute, and my smug smile dropped immediately. What did she mean by that? How could she hear my thoughts? What type of magic was in this place? “I don't believe you,” I said firmly, trying to keep my calm. The man who wanted to marry me seemed like he was in a hurry, if they could really hear my thoughts, he wouldn't have let me pretend to begin with. “No matter what you do, you can never escape this place so I suggest you make things easier for yourself,” she said again, taking a deep breath as she put the shoes on my legs. “W…what do you mean?” I asked confusedly, it came as a whisper. A lot of things didn't make sense to me. She had quietly done my bidding up until this point. If she had known what I was thinking, why didn't she act up and let me continue, feeling
Avery's Point Of View “Amos?” I whispered confusedly, watching the handsome man in front of me approach me. “Yes my love, I am here,” he responded with a smile. My smile quickly turned into a frown as I didn't recognize his voice. “Come with me,” he whispered softly, offering me his hand. I hesitated for a bit but finally took it. Immediately, my hand touched his, I took it back immediately. It felt like a sting, something was wrong. “What is it, my love?” He asked calmly, his brows furrowing. I wanted to say something but I didn't know how to explain what had just happened. I noticed his head turning to the woman who had dressed me up. He shot her a questioning look and she in turn touched my side. “Come on now, the auspicious time is about to pass,” she said calmly, a trace of fear in her voice. Whispers erupted from all the sides of the room but when I looked around, I saw no one. Taking his hand this time, I didn't sting anymore. I was even more confused and convi
Avery's Point Of View “Why hasn't she woken up yet?” A strange voice asked harshly, as I began to regain consciousness. “Please give it some time Sir, she will surely wake up,” another voice responded, the voice laced with fear. I was fully awake but too scared to open my eyes. I had lost consciousness and was taken away by one set of people but I didn't know who they were I didn't know if I was free or in deeper trouble. “Let's just give her some time,” the voice responded, suddenly becoming distant. My eyes popped open but I shut them immediately because of the bright light that pierced into them. Slowly reopening them, I scanned the room I was in. It was very unfamiliar and unsettling, filling me with fear. “Ahhh she is awake,” A woman said happily, rushing towards me. “How are you dear?” The woman asked curiously, her eyes fixed on mine. I blinked multiple times trying to understand the situation. I heard the question she asked but my confusion was who she was and w
Avery's Point Of View “Avery!” A familiar voice called amidst the chaos. Making my head snap in the direction of the voice. Everywhere had become foggy and it was hard to make out anything. But despite this, I still struggled, squinting my eyes in hopes of seeing the person who had called my name. “I'm right here!” I finally responded, giving up on trying to see anything with all the fog. I only hoped that whoever it was that came for me would succeed in rescuing me. At the back of my mind, I really hoped it was Amos but that seemed far-fetched at this point. “I'm here!” I screamed again, trying to fiddle with the lock on the cage. The lock wouldn't budge so I began to hit the cage with all my strength. My wounds reopened, blood gushing out but I didn't care, I needed to be free. “Avery!” A feminine voice whispered softly, grabbing my hands from inside the cage. “Who are you? What do you want?” I asked in a panic, unable to figure out who was speaking to me. “I begged yo
Avery's Point Of View “Quinn?” I asked in shock, blinking my eyes in disbelief. “Yes my beautiful Avery, it's me,” he said passionately, approaching the cage. I moved back until my back hit the other edge of the cage. “Quinn,” I murmured silently, tears rolling down my face. I remembered my last encounter with him and how he had killed my child. “Why do you run from me my love,” he asked calmly, giving me a confused look. “What do you want from me?” I asked in fear, my hands trembling as I struggled to sit still. “I told you I was going to come back for you didn't I?” He asked firmly, retreating to the stool he usually sat on. “I don't break my promises,” he said quietly, running his hand through his hair. My mind went blank for some seconds as I tried to understand what was going on. “But you were abroad,” I said suddenly, blinking my eyes in disbelief. I knew that was a foolish thing to say but Amos had promised me that he was going to keep me safe. He promised me that
