Avery’s POV
It had been a very good week for me, working as Angie's private tutor was easier than I initially expected, and Angie had been so nice to me.
“Maybe it isn't yet time to show her true colors,” I thought, if Aunty Vivian had taught me anything it was that I couldn't trust anybody.
When my parents passed and she came to my father's house as a guardian, she was so nice, almost perfect, she fed me, clothed me and treated me like a princess for more than one year, I was so happy and allowed her into my parent's room giving her access to all my parent's files and deeds, after she seized everything my parents left for me, she turned into this monster that I had to face every day.
“At least for now,” I said out loud on my way to her house.
She had continued to give me big tips every single day and I had been able to save a lot of money while also giving my aunty a good amount of money. I made sure to always change it into smaller bills so that it looked like a lot of money.
“I don't care what you do as long as you keep this money coming,” my aunty told me, she has continued to drink away every single dim I had given to her.
“Here we go,” I said entering into my regular workstation.
Getting to Angie's house or should I say mansion, the day went on like any other day, I taught and she learned quickly, with the reading techniques I taught her, she had been able to cover a lot of topics making my already easy work easier.
Our classes finished earlier than the time allocated and we always talked about random things till it was time to leave. I tried not to tell her my personal issues during this time.
“It's time for me to get going,” I told Angie as I packed my bag to leave, we had been talking for a while now and I was getting hungry, I needed to go home and eat something.
“Okay but can you come tomorrow?” She asked with pleading eyes.
But it was a Saturday and I didn't need to come to work, why would she need me here?
“Why, is there a topic you want us to cover?” I wanted to know the reason she requested my presence.
“No, no but it's my anniversary with my boyfriend, I wanted you to be here for the celebration,” she said with a smile expecting a positive response.
“Oh I'm sorry, I won't be able to make it,” I said as I shook my head and carried my bag.
I didn't want to come to that celebration any other for that matter, they were very rich people and I didn't want to be embarrassed, but apart from that, I didn't want to get too close to her, she was my boss and I wanted to keep it that way.
“Oh come on, please…” she begged, really wanting me to be here.
“I can't, it's a family occasion, besides I have nothing to wear” I protested, thinking of a very good excuse.
“I thought you'd say that,” she said with a smile, bringing out a bag and handing it to me.
I looked through the bag, it was a dress with shoes and jewelry.
“I can't accept this but I will come, only for an hour,” I said finally succumbing to her pressure.
Angie was already doing a lot for me, I didn't want to owe her too much.
“Yesssss, thank you, thank you, thank you,” she said in excitement.
“But why would she want me there,” I thought as I went home, she had already paid me for the day.
Why did she go to the point of getting me clothes? What did she want from me? These questions bugged my mind but I decided to think nothing of it and go back for the party or whatever when my aunty went out on Saturday.
She always went out for the whole day on Saturday.
“Better make that change before you forget,” I admonished myself as I proceeded to make the one thousand dollars into a bunch of 20-dollar notes. I divided them in two, I would give her half tonight and the other half tomorrow morning so she can get on with her drinking.
“What a waste of money,” I sighed at the thought that all my hard work was spent in a bar.
I met Aunty Vivian on her way out, she didn't even wait to beat me up, she just took the money and hurried away.
“That's strange,” I thought but remembered that it was something that she did when she desperately needed a drink.
She was never always like this, I just didn't know why she changed, she always looked at me with guilt and pity during times like this, it was almost like she wanted to tell me something but then she would rush to the bar and go back to being drunk Aunty Vivian.
I took a deep breath, sighing as I ate and went to bed.
The next morning, Aunty Vivian was crying for hours, she locked herself in the room so I couldn't get to her.
“I can't do this anymore,” I said as I dropped the money and a note saying that I was going to work.
I know I lied but I couldn't bear to hear her crying from the other room, I was thankful I had a place to go.
At the party I struggled so hard to fit in, I regretted not taking the clothes Angie offered me because I was mistaken for the help so many times, all in all, it was lively, better than sitting at home.
Then came the bully, I didn't know who he was but he looked like Angie.
“Hey beautiful, wanna come over to my room later?” He asked loudly with a devilish grin.
“No thank you,” I replied, not wanting any trouble.
But he didn't stop, he kept teasing me and saying inappropriate things. Just when I thought I was going to lose my mind, I heard a voice thunder from behind me.
“Quit playing around Quinn,” the voice said, I knew that voice, it was very family.
“Yes Father,” the bully replied and scurried away.
So that was Angie's brother, big brother I supposed because he looked a lot older than her.
I turned to thank Mr. Amos, why was he always coming from behind me, I wondered.
“Thank…” but before I spoke he stopped me.
“No need for that human, just stay out of my way,” he said harshly, not even looking at me.
As I was about to protest, Angie came running to her father, her eyes filled with tears.
“Daddy, my caterer bailed out at the last minute,” she cried, devastated and confused.
Avery’s POV“What are we going to do?” Angie cried ruining her makeup, she seemed to have exhausted her options.“What about the backups,” her father asked, surely a family like this will have several vendors for things like this.“Everyone is in a fix, nobody can help me right now,” she continued to cry, throwing her hands in the air.Her father didn't say anything, probably thinking of what to do.“What do we do? Everybody is here, it will be so embarrassing, I don't even have a damned cake,” She cried, throwing a fit and stomping her feet like a child.“Stop that, I can't think with all this noise,” her father said, shutting her down.I stood there watching the entire exchange, with their solution in my hand but I didn't want to rush into it, if there was any other solution, I would have preferred they take that, but the more I waited, nothing came, they called everyone they could but no one was responsive. Angie was losing her mind and her father was just watching her in silence.
Avery's POV “What have I done?” Amos said out loud running his hand through his hair. “We mated,” I explained, confused myself at why and how this was possible. “But you have a wife, right?” I asked, trying to clarify the situation. He had children so he surely had a wife, so why did this happen? “She is dead, you humans killed her,” he said, accusing me of something I had no idea about. “I am not human, I am half werewolf,” I corrected him but I finally understood his hatred for humans. They had killed his wife, taken away his lover and mate, the mother to his children. “Oh shut up, it's the same fucking thing,” he said rising his voice. “I can't do this, not after what you people did to me, you can't be my mate,” he said standing up and getting dressed. “What do you mean, we already…” before I could finish speaking he stopped me again. “Don't remind me of the abomination that just happened here, it never happened, we are nothing, this is nothing,” he said walking
Amos’ POV “What have I done?” I thought as I took off my clothes, transforming into my wolf form. Running into the woods, I sought sanctuary in my den. It held so many memories not just of me but those of my lover, my wife, and my mate. I hated to think of her as dead, gone, out of reach and I have lived my life like she was here, like she wasn't gone, never in all these years have done something like I did tonight. A few years, months, weeks, and even days from now I was not in any way open to the idea of another mate, it had never once crossed my mind but tonight, I not only found my new mate but I already marked and mated with her. “Damn it,” I roared as I increased my pace, finding this cave was proving harder today, even my nose had lost the scent of it. I kept running and running but it was useless I was going around in circles. “Arhhhhhggg!!!” I screamed as I brought myself to a halt. Sitting on top of a rock and staring at the moon, I struggled to calm my still heav
Amos’ POVAs I raced back to the castle, I became more anxious, what if she wasn't there when I got back?I covered more distance, desperate to get there on time.Getting to the castle and finding some clothes for myself I rushed out to find my mate. The party was in full swing and everyone was enjoying themselves but the one person I sought was nowhere to be found.I started by looking in the kitchen, there were no traces of her, and it almost felt like she was never there. All the flour that was scattered all around the kitchen was cleaned, all the utensils were neatly arranged as they ought to be, and even the oven was cleaned.“What the hell?” I whispered as I took it all in at once.Going to Angie's dressing room hoping to find her there, maybe she wanted to change clothes but on getting there I didn't find anyone.I was walking around in circles at this point so I decided to find her with my nose, her scent was unmistakable, surely I would find her.“Perfect,” I whispered when m
Amos’ POVAvery, Avery, Avery,” the woman screamed in shock, she seemed to have sobered up.“Somebody help!!!” She screamed again but nobody reacted or tried to inquire what the problem was. They all stood there staring at her as she cried hysterically and ran back and forth in confusion. The woman finally exhausted sat on the floor, she was shaking and whispering some things to herself, she looked like someone who was running mad and looking at her hands, you wouldn't blame her.“My mate is dead,” I whispered as I cursed my fate for always killing my mates. But could I really blame my fate for this one? It was my carelessness, it was always my carelessness. I left her all alone when she needed me the most, I ran away like a coward, and now I had to pay the price.“Cursed,” I whispered as I turned my car around, it was no use entering that house, I wouldn't be able to hold myself together if I did.I drove back home in silence, not able to fully comprehend what had just happened, I ha
Avery’s POV “Why are you here?” The voice repeated harshly as I struggled to see the person or creature speaking to me. “I….I….I…” I stuttered trying to retrace my steps and possibly run away. “Speak up girl,” the voice commanded, scaring me more. At that moment I decided I was going to run away, it didn’t sound like it was a human speaking to me, I knew it was some kind of magical creature because all the hairs on my body stood up and there was a strange aura around. Turning and trying to take off, my hand was suddenly grabbed by some claws and it was digging deep into my skin. “Let me go!!!” I screamed in agony, as I fought to set myself free. The injuries I was sustaining were not my problem, as long as they didn’t affect my face. “You haven’t answered my question,” the voice repeated, I could now see the creature, it was a werewolf. “Why do werewolves keep hurting me tonight,” I thought angrily as I devised a plan to run away from this freak. “Why I am here is none of you
Amos’ POV“Where am I? I asked myself as I found myself in a dark forest.“What is this, what is going on?” I was voicing out all my questions with hopes that something, someone would hear me.I got no response so I kept walking, this forest looked oddly familiar but my memory was still a mess.“Help me Raph,” I begged my wolf but he seemed to be silent.Of course, he hadn’t forgiven me for what I did to our mate, which is another reason I needed to get out of this damned forest, I needed to make things right?Suddenly, I heard the sounds of screams, clanging swords, and roars.I immediately transformed into my wolf form and ran in that direction, I should be running away but my wolf was pushing me towards the chaos.I came to a halt in front of the chaos and realized why this forest was familiar, I had been here before, it was the place where the final battle took place during the insurrection, it was the place where I lost my wife and my Alpha.“No…no…no,” I whispered, how could I f
Amos’ POV“An Alpha of pain and blood,” I whispered as I watched myself run and fall over and over again, my wolf was weak and I had lost too much blood. As I watched myself try to get to the fortress, I tried to remember what happened to the Alpha’s daughter, she was half-werewolf but she was also in the fortress, I didn’t have to wait or think for too long, I watched what had happened upon my return. As I signaled the hidden gong, one of the warriors who was left to protect the pack came out to assess the situation and find out who it was requesting entrance into the fortress.“Amos, is all well?” He asked from afar as he approached me.Getting close to me and seeing my wounded wolf with the crest I held in my right hand, he immediately went on one knee.“My Alpha,” was all he said with his head bowed, I could feel the questions in his gaze when he finally lifted his head.“Gather everyone, only then will I speak,” I said as I felt myself almost fall to the ground, he rushed to catc
