Chapter three

The big party hold by S.V group of companies isn’t something anyone in the entire city of York will want to miss, it’s a rare chance to meet the president of S.V who rarely meet anyone although his vice president is available but seeing the president is once in a year and that’s doing the company anniversary, after that no one is able to meet with him except Mr. Fisher his vice while so says the rumor if not for the fact that he’s always refer to as the vice president many people would have thought he’s the real owner of S.V.

Like other businessmen, Mr. Dothad also came to the party hoping to meet with the president along with his family although Selena came with her fiancé Dylan, Shaina who is uninterested in whatever they were doing except the food and drinks sat down on the table offered to them to have her fill, her mother cautioned several times to stop eating and go look for a man to hook up with 

“Find a man to dance with and stop stuffing your face with food, maybe you will also be lucky to find a husband for yourself” Mrs. Dothad snap at her pulling the plates away from her front

“Am not interested in that, I’m really hungry” Shaina said and drag the plate of food back to herself 

“The same attitude you exhibited when your sister entered college to study a good course, same attitude when she became the successor of the family and now she’s getting married soon” her mother nag at her again

“Can’t you atleast struggle to meet up with your sister?” 

“Meet up with her?” Shaina asked ironically

“all my life I’ve been trying to meet up with Selena and supersede her but I always get disappointed, you and dad never see the hardworking part of me yet you want me to be a filial daughter” she resorted angrily and stood up from the table 

“I lost my appetite” she said before walking away 

Shaina walk outside the terrace to clear her head it’s obvious her mother will try arguing with her and nagging at her if she doesn’t leave, thinking about all what she’s been through Shaina hissed loudly

ever since she found out her parents cherished good grades like a god she has always tried to please them by scoring higher grades in her class but then Selena is a genius who no matter what always top the whole school, so their parent attention, hope and love was placed on her.

Although she never wanted to admit it but she was envious of her elder sister who always gets everything she wanted while she doesn’t even the man she has her hopes on is taken away by her and she’s left with nothing than to continue being her sister’s shadow. 

Still thinking about her life, Shaina got distracted by the sounds of footsteps approaching she look towards the direction to see who’s coming and seeing Selena figure she immediately want to retreat, she’s sure to look for trouble with her and they might end up getting physical even though she has nothing she should atleast keep her image in a place like this

“Where are you going sister?” Selena step forward to stop her from leaving 

“I’m not in the mood Selena” she said uninterested but look ahead to see three other girls, well apparently Selena’s classmates back in high school 

“Seems like you and your friends need some privacy, I will excuse you then” she rush her words and try escaping from the place

“Oh my God Shaina, don’t tell me you’ve forgotten us so soon” one of the girls said and stood between Selena and her 

“Of course not, we are friends aren’t we?” another replied and also walk further, Shaina could see Selena big grin behind the girls she has brought them just to bully her

“Why are you guys here?” she asked bracing up 

“That’s a silly question Shaina, we are business women and we have every right to be here, but you...” the tall one said and move closer to her, she pat her shoulders roughly 

“What are you doing here? You are not a business person or are you here to eat up all the foods” she said and the four shared a laugh

“I know what you are trying to do Trisha but I won’t let you get to me, we are not in high school where you will bully me and I will just take it” 

“Oh little Shaina is speaking up” they mocked but Shaina sigh and ignore their jeering 

“You know Shaina you are always trying to beat your sister but you can never win her, I heard you are preying on her man isn’t that a shameless thing to do?” 

Shaina clasped her hands trying to keep her anger in check, so what they are all about is Dylan, her sister must have reported to her friends she had tried to steal her man 

“Selena knows very well who the thief is, I really don’t have time for this” she said and made to walk away again

one of the girls stretch her legs in her way and she ended up on the floor annoyed more than ever Shaina stood up from the floor and gathered all her strength to push first person who lose balance and fall on the rest landing all four on the floor 

“You bugs!” she yell 

“What is going on here?” Dylan rush in and help Selena who is already getting up, the other three ladies got up on their feet and stand behind him, Shaina understood the act immediately Selena has always resort to self-pity so this is nothing new

“I told you Shaina really likes you but you didn’t believe me” Selena sniffing a fake cry

“What are you talking about?”

“She got angry about you rejecting her and came over to meet my friends and me to pick a fight” she explained and her friends nodded affirmatively at her explanation, Shaina saw the look of disappointment on Dylan’s face as he look straight at her 

“I can’t believe you could be this childish Shaina” he said and turn to console Selena hugging her 

“Selena is my fiancé now and I hope you respect that and leave her alone, you have business with me not her” 

“No Dylan, I don’t have business with any of you”

“Stop the pretense Shaina you are still obsessed with Dylan and want him for yourself, you are so shameless” one of the ladies cut in

“I know you’ve always like me but I’m with your sister now you should realize that and let go” Dylan said again annoying her 

“So you know I’ve always liked you yet you kept me by your side giving me false hope?” she asked disappointed 

she always thought Dylan was innocent and didn’t realize her feelings for him so she keep trying to make him fall in love with her but hearing that he was aware of her feelings yet deceive her all the way got her mad with anger and frustration

Can this drama ever come to an end? She had made up her mind to forgive them and find her own path but with the present situation now Shaina suddenly feel like letting them both have a taste of their own medicine, she should make Dylan regret choosing her sister over her

“I’m sorry Shaina but then you shouldn’t take out your frustration on your older sister and her friends” she glare hard at him but in a second release her glare on him and give a smirk instead 

“You are right Dylan, you are my past now so you don’t mean anything to me anymore and besides I shouldn’t have pick on my weak sister and her friends” Selena smiling face turn to a frown hearing what she’s saying 

“So you know I already have a fiancé so I don’t need to be jealous of anyone” she informed but the look on everyone’s face shows they didn’t believe her 

“I don’t care if you believe me or not but I will be sure to invite you to my wedding” she said and bounce out of the place feeling victorious even though the lie is almost unbelievable atleast it got Selena, her face looks horrible, Shaina smile to herself as she went back inside to enjoy the party.

But then her enjoyment didn’t last long as Selena approaches her again this time without her friends, she pull her to a corner of the grand hall in threatening anger. Shaina who was unprepared for the sudden pull lost her steps and hit the wall roughly 

“What is wrong with you?” she yelled at her but her voice sounded so low as the sound in the room overpower it

“you are always standing in my way sister, all my life you always envy what I want but today am gonna get rid of you once and for all” she stated and got Shaina confused for a moment

What exactly did she mean by that? She wondered, all their life she’s always the one compromising because of her and she always covet whatever she wanted so what’s up with the accuse

“Have you lost your wit?” Shaina was saying when Selena brought out a substance in a bottle and advance to pour the content on her.

Shaina shrieks in fright not knowing what the bottle contains, her sister can be crazy sometimes and no doubt harm her. 

She put her hands up to block her face from the attack but then a strong hand grab Selena’s and she drop the bottle in sharp pain letting out a yell, Shaina who was prepared for whatever is coming to her quickly open her eyes and stare at the massive figure in front of her. 

 “Who…”

She sighted Selena whining in pain at the mercy of the stranger whose face was concealed because of his long hair, he looks scary but then Shaina couldn’t care much at that moment now is the time, she watch the stranger let go of her sister before rushing to his side and locking her arm with his. 

The eyes staring at her seems a bit abnormal as the colour of his eyes seems to shine brighter than the light in the hall, she look to see Selena regaining herself from the pain and cleared her voice hurrily 

“Your look horrible sis” she mocked and Selena glare at her and the stranger beside her

“Who is this?” she smirked holding her almost twisted wrist 

“Is he some sort of bodyguard?”

“Are you blind sis? Or did you hit your head somewhere?” she said and struggle to keep her arm together with the stranger’s 

“This is my husband!” she said, dropping a bomb on Selena’s face.
